Today saw a large scale attack on Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai, with reports stating that casualties among soldiers range from 17 to more than 60. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/worl ... /29551247/
In any case, the attack is an escalation by Islamist rebels that follows fast on the heels of the assassination of the chief prosecutor two days ago. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/ ... UA20150630
President Sisi has claimed that executions in the country need to be expedited so that justice can be dealt more firmly against the Islamic terrorists that the government blames for the current instability. In the firing line include large numbers of Muslim Brotherhood members including their leader, Mohammed Badie, and ex-President Morsi, who have been sentenced to death.
With the escalations and the need for Sisi to look tough, I think it's increasingly likely that these sentences will be carried through. One can only guess what will happen next.
