Nobody knows how we once came to live here, and nobody knows how we can leave. According to the chrono-meters, it is the year 8072 Standard Terran Years, whatever that may be. We have lived separated from whatever world is beyond ours for hundreds, if not thousands of years here, on the world we call Uadas. It is, so the sages say, a planet, part of a bigger universe filled with many worlds like ours. For as long as we have been separated from the rest of this universe, they say, our civilization, the technologies, have been deteriorating. "Ashes to ashes," they say, "Dust to dust."

We have no reason to disbelieve them, much what they say appears to be true. Indeed, the vast wilderness out there has ruins aplenty of long-gone cities and manufactories, the collapsed remains of an undoubtedly once mighty civilization. Some mourn the times long gone, the times they did not even live to see, but there is nothing we can do about it. Indeed, Uadas as we know it has always been like we know it - a vast and open wilderness, rugged terrain with scant settlements dotting the landscape.

It is an inherently dangerous world out there, away from the relative safety offered by the few cities there are. For some, it is death. For us, it is our livelihood. Traversing the wastes, earning our keep by killing what dangers we find. Some see it as just that: a job to earn one's living, while others see it as their duty. From the twisted Warlocks of Vannir and the Witches of Illash to the speed-freaks and their death cult, none are safe from us, and nor are we safe from them. It's a brave, pretty damn old world out there. What will you do, and for how long? Is the remainder of your life measured in years? Months, days? Hours? Minutes? There is but one way to find out.

Set on the world Uadas, a planet long forgotten by those that once colonized it, this RP combines elements of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Post Apocalyptic universes, Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust is a roleplay borrowing elements from games such as RAGE, the Witcher, and Destiny (albeit with a tad more story!) and combines these with other elements taken from things like Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer. As such, it is pretty much the lovechild of things I like and should prove to be pretty cool (right?)! The primary focus is on the characters and their stories; the players taking up the mantel of the brave fellows that leave the relative comfort of the world's settlements for the dangerous and wild wastelands of Uadas. Players are free to go on their own adventures, or ask for an adventure or 'quest' to be given to them by the OP and whomever may help him. That is not to say there will not be an overarching storyline: indeed, there is one I have planned already. The Roleplay will over a world with many options available to the players, catering to many different and creative stories to be made.

As such, it should not be a surprise that participants are encouraged to contribute to the world, with a rough map in place, there is plenty of space for the players to come up with their own places and events, allowing for a large variety of characters and storylines in the same Roleplay, while still maintaining a sense of an overlapping world it all takes place in.

The planet of Uadas is a vast world, completely open to the players. There are but scant settlements and even fewer fully populated areas, danger ever present in the wasteland. The wasteland itself spans the largest surface of the planet, but that is not to say that most of Uadas is a barren desert: far from! The wasteland is compromised of massive jungles and forests growing on the ruins of civilization, of large tundras and icy wastes, massive mountains and the aforementioned barren deserts.

Below you will find everything you need to know about the RP, and more besides! You will find more about the world itself, an application for characters, places, and events, and the rules, as well as the races and classes available for you to pick from. If you have an idea for a character but are not sure what class to pick, don't hesitate to ask me here on the OOC Thread: I'm planning on regularly adding new classes, as well as other content including Space Magic - a totally original idea, right?

Races of Uadas


Humans are one of the most common races on Uadas, and it is said that they originally settled the planet, using now long-lost technologies to make the world habitable. They are the most numerous in most areas of the world, able to easily adapt to their surroundings and naturally just about average at everything.
The Nisse are a race much akin to the Elves often seen in the long-lost stories from Earth, with their pointy ears and tall, slender forms. They are naturally more affiliated with the Aether, the nefarious realm that magic is drawn from. They are faster than a human as well, and have heightened senses and intelligence when compared to humans, although they are more fragile built, and less strong with a smaller amount of muscles. The Nisse are known to be quite manipulative, cold, and distant at times, and are often seen as highly xenophobic to outsiders.
The Unbroken, often called Dwarves by those of other races, are a humanoid species short of length. They are, however, exceptionally strong, and are known for their dour personalities. Many of the Unbroken make for great gun- and armorsmiths, and almost all are fond of gems. It's not exactly known where the "Unbroken" name came from, but a popular story tells that they are named as such following an incident were a particularly bloodthirsty warlord tried to break the backs of his Dwarven foes - failing, according to the stories. As unlikely as it is to be true, it is a popular story and many of the Dwarves assume that it is an euphemism for their unbreakable will, never giving up whatever the odds.
The Orcnae (often called "Orcs") are the distant relatives of a race bearing the same name, their blood diluted through the generations. While their distant relatives are long gone, the Orcnae still live on Uadas and are known to be even stronger than the Dwarves, and standing much taller. The Orcnae are commonly portrayed as bloodthirsty creatures, and this is often true. While the Orcs are strong and tall, many of them seem to lack on the intelligence department, and as such there are often jokes made about the stupidity of the Orcnae.
The Draconid are named after their Draconic features. Despite the differences in appearance, they share a lot of features with humans, although they are slightly more resistant to swords, spears and other melee weapons due to their thick scales. They often live in nomadic clans, traversing the wasteland, and are often mistaken for mutants or other monsters and as such attacked, giving them a slightly xenophobic nature, mistrusting outsiders.
The Warmind are humanoid machines, their minds formed an artificial intelligence stored on data storage, rather than the brain more commonly seen with other races. They are, in essence, self-aware machines that are equals to humanity, but lack the basic needs a human has such as food, water, and air. They are few in number, as the art of creating new Warmind has been long lost, with but a scarce few artificers even able of repairing and maintaining them. Unlike other machines, the Warmind have personalities of their own.


Player Classes


Fighter

Fighters are the most versatile of all classes, offering a wide variety of options although almost no special abilities. Fighters are able to use all weapons and armor. Fighters can be completely different from each other: one Fighter could be a gun-toting madman, while the other could be a demolition expert, while yet another could be a swordmaster, seeking out the best duels, never using a gun.

Fighter abilities & gear:
  • Weapons: Fighters can use all types of weaponry.
  • Armor: Fighters can use all types of armor.
  • Combat-hardened: A Fighter is at home in the battle, and as such he is able to quickly analyse combat situations.
Ranger
Image
Rangers are cunning and perceptive, and skilled survivors of the Wasteland, having traversed it for years. They mainly fight as marksman, picking off their foes in the distance and are able to move quickly and quietly. Rangers are great at surviving, able to find some food almost everywhere, whether by hunting or salvaging.

Ranger abilities & gear:
  • Weapons: Rangers can use Sniper Rifles, Designated Marksman Rifles, Handguns, and all melee weapons.
  • Armor: Rangers can use Light Armor.
  • Skilled Survivors: Rangers can find food almost everywhere, for both themselves and some of those that travel with them - although rationing might be necessary sometimes.
  • Peerless Marksmen: A ranger is usually able to quickly analyse his or her foes, quickly finding a weak spot in their armor. Rangers are also able to calculate distances with relative ease.
Warlock
Image
Warlocks harness the power of the dimension known as the Aether in its most primal form; drawing power from the realm magic originates from and using it to defeat their foes, hurling bolts of primal magic at their enemies. Warlocks often rejoice in the power they wield, and many of them are power-hungry, although this is not true of all. Warlocks are mighty sorcerers all, and a dangerous foe indeed.

Warlock abilities & gear:
  • Weapons: Warlocks can use Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Handguns, and all melee weapons.
  • Armor: Warlocks can use Light and Medium armor.
  • Primal magic: Warlocks draw their power directly from the Aether, and are able to hurl bolts of pure magic at their foes.
  • Eccentric: Drawing power from the Aether is no mean feat, and usually leaves some kind of mark on the Warlock. Warlocks often have a tick, such as cleaning their blade excessively, or building houses out of cards all the time.
Rogue
Image
Rogues are shady individuals, masters of disguise and stealth. Capable of nimble tricks, many Rogues work as thieves, assassins, and cons. Rogues are stealthy and dexterous, capable of catching enemies off-guard and taking them by surprise, or blending in among the crowd at a feast so as to find their way to their target.

Rogue abilities & gear:
  • Weapons: Rogues can use Sniper Rifles, Designated Marksman Rifles, and Handguns as well as all melee weapons.
  • Armor: Rogues can use light armor.
  • Masters of stealth: Rogues are masters of stealth, their footsteps almost silent, the Rogue one with the shadows. When catching a foe off-guard, Rogues can often inflict massive amounts of damage, downing his foe almost instantly. Rogues are able to disguise as someone other than themselves.
  • Silent: Rogues can be extremely quiet when they wish to, their footsteps so light that they cannot be heard. Rogues have silencers on all their ranged weapons, if this is possible.




Lore & Other Information



The world of Uadas massive, with many different areas and climates, a world where society has degraded from it's once highly futuristic self to an almost post-apocalyptic wilderness. Uadas is an open world, and has many options for you to invent your own places and events. Below you will find the 'original' lore, the base of the world, and some explanations on weapons and weapon types. If you have any ideas or suggestions, be sure to tell me!

The Aether is an alternate dimension, although not much of it is known - not anymore, at least, the data on it long forgotten or destroyed. It is the Aether that those practicing magic draw their power from, some of them carefully drawing from it while others pull energy from the dimension, releasing it on their enemies such as the Warlocks do. It is said that the Aether, being a separate dimension, is completely different from ours - rather than containing a world, it is said that the Aether is filled with power, and nothing else. It is this power that a Warlock releases: the black substance straight from the Aether burning through flesh and bones with ease.

When drawing power from the Aether, each person that practices magic has his own rituals he does to do so, although they all share the common ground in that they require the utmost concentration, as can be expected when drawing power from another dimension. Many make wild gestures with their hands, mumbling words under their breath, although some remain completely quiet and unmoving instead.
Below you will find the different types of weapons, as well as the different types of armor.

Weapon Types

Assault Rifles: An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. They are the most commonly used weapons in Uadas. All assault rifles have an effective range of at least 300 meters, with many having a much higher range.

Designated Marksman Rifles: Designated Marksman Rifles (DMR) cross the gap between Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles, exceeding the range of Assault Rifles but having a shorter range than Sniper Rifles. DMR's are still capable of firing semi-automatic, rather than the bolt-action sniper rifles, and have a larger magazine capacity than Sniper Rifles as well as being more easy to handle and carry.

Shotguns: A Shotgun is a weapon designed chiefly to fire rounds loaded with multiple small metal projectiles at once. This makes them devastating and ruinous at close range but gives them a very short effective distance. Shotguns generally fall into numerous classes, including pump-action; lever-action; break-open; bolt-action; semi-auto and even fully automatic models

Sniper Rifles: A sniper rifle is a type of long rifle which is designed to engage targets at extreme distances. Most sniper rifles make use of high-caliber ammunition, although this is not necessarily the case, and are typically designed to allow the user to make high-precision shots.

PDWs: A Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) is a compact semi-automatic or fully automatic firearm that is, in most respects, a subclassification of Submachine Guns (SMGs). They typically have the lowest hip-fire spread and reload faster than other weapons and also offer users many slots for customization to better fit both circumstances and preference.

Light Machine Guns: A light machine gun (LMG) is a machine gun designed to be employed by an individual soldier, with or without an assistant, as an infantry support weapon. LMGs suffer from lower than average accuracy compared to carbines and Assault Rifles (though unique to the weapon class). Also, recoil is generally higher compared to their assault rifle derivatives, with extreme rates of fire also lower. Beltfed machine guns suffer from the longest average reload times of any weapon, as well as the highest hipfire spread, making them highly disadvantaged in close quarters scenarios.

Carbines: A Carbine is a firearm that combines features of Assault Rifles and PDW's. The smaller size and lighter weight of carbines makes them easier to handle in close-quarter situations such as urban engagements, when deploying from military vehicles, or in any situation where space is confined. The disadvantages of carbines relative to assault rifles include inferior long-range accuracy and a shorter effective range. Larger than a submachine gun, they are harder to maneuver in tight encounters where superior range and stopping power at distance are not great considerations.

Handguns: A handgun is a firearm designed to be handheld, in either one or both hands and differentiates them from other classes of firearms. Handguns are typically categorized as Pistols, Revolvers, and Machine Pistols.

Melee Weapons: A melee weapon is a weapon used in hand-to-hand combat such as a bladed weapon or a blunt weapon. These can be daggers, maces, swords, etc.

Armor Types

Light Armor: Light armor is exactly as it says; the lightest type of armor. It allows for speed and stealth, hardly weighs anything, and doesn't make a lot of noise nor does it require a lot of maintenance. It's also the cheapest.

Medium Armor: Medium armor bridges the gap between light and heavy armor, offering more protection than light armor while also allowing for more speed, stealth, and ease of use than heavy armor.

Heavy Armor: Heavy armor is the heaviest of armors available (duh) and offers the most protection, sacrificing speed and stealth for safety. Some heavy armor allows for shield generators build into the gear, but these suits are extremely rare, expensive, and hard to maintain, as well as weighing even more.


The city of Thanedice is the largest on Uadas, and allows for a relative comfort of living with fresh water and running electricity. It is ruled over by Arch-Regent Guranath with an Iron Fist, with crime almost totally unknown. It is here that most people live, and that most of the people that traverse the Wastelands go to repair their gear, buy new gear, and to find contracts and jobs, as well as a nice drink or two.

As always, there are some rules in place - these shouldn't be too hard to follow, I believe, and are pretty much common sense, but here they are anyway!

Bio: Galen Jones was born on Uadas to a pair of scientists. He began showing the ability to harness the Aether at a very young age, and his parents sent him to the Order of Magi so that he might learn to harness his abilities. The Order of Magi is one of the less power-hungry Warlock Orders, and is devoted to gathering and preserving knowledge and to slowing the deterioration of the technologies on Uadas. With his training thusly focused, and with a love of Science in his blood, Galen grew to be a talented Scientist and researcher, and his magic abilities developed accordingly. The first of his Aether abilities to develop was an imparted knowledge of ancient languages. Using the Aether, Galen gained the ability to interpret the ancient languages found in the ruins scattered across the planet, making him a highly valued addition to research teams.

As his training continued, he also developed healing abilities, and after combat training, a number of offensive abilities as well. As the years passed, Galen went on countless research missions to the ancient ruins, and learned well how to handle himself along the way. On one of these missions, Galen discovered an ancient weapon: a small but powerful assault rifle which fires superheated polymer rounds. For all his efforts, the Order allowed Galen to keep the weapon, and he still uses it to this day.

Now, having completed his training, Galen has been made a full-fledged member of the Order of Magi, and has been given the authority to investigate ruins on his own, as well as one of the Order's portable research AIs (often called "Dinklebots" after their creator, Dr. Dinkleman), and access to Order funds to hire assistance should he deem it necessary.

Looks like an extraordinarily interesting RP, which is nice considering the lack of decent quality fantasy RPs in PttM. I'll have an application up in the next couple hours. In the meantime, though, I'd just like to point out that your Draconid image link is broken (leads to a 403 forbidden page); you may want to fix that.

Skills: Dex is a scavenger at heart, and will find a use for most items, no matter how mundane they first seem, using these items he finds, he can build electronic components and devices using his knowledge of mechanics and electronics. He is a survivalist too and knows how to read the land, find food, shelter and is a keen navigator by eye, his sense of direction means many times he disregards the need for maps and navigation equipment, however he does keep various maps on hand for reference.

Weaknesses: Though he does have the means to survive, he isn't a natural fighter as such. His long range sniper rifle keeps him at the back of most fights, able to deliver powerful blows at a distance, but up close he can't really hold his own, he keeps a sharp Kukri close by, but this is also a utility knife as well as a last resort self defense.

Bio: Dex was born into the clan of Am'tulla, a clan of wandering desert nomads who revered ancient technology as a gift from ancient gods, bestowed to mortals to re-build their once massive civilization. Dex from a young age was taught how to live off the land, the nomad group would wander from desert ruins, to howling mountain peaks, through parched river beds and sodden marshes in the pursuit of these relics of a forgotten time. All the while Dex collected these pieces of technology and used them, not to worship, but to use. He built a fully functioning crossbow at age 10 and used it to hunt food in the various forests and plains they passed. Over the years he managed to build various contraptions of varying complexity and use.

All seemed simple in the nomad lifestyle, however a fateful stormy night saw to it that all was about to change. Bandits, a large group, larger than any the group had previously encountered, raided their camp and slaughtered many in their sleep, by the time the alarm was raised, it was practically too late. Some fled, some stayed and fought to a grizzly end and Dex, he stayed hid in the underbrush a few feet outside of the camp until the bandits had cleared. At sunrise he returned to find all dead, except one, the Clan leader, propped up against a treestump with a nasty wound. He implored Dex to leave, forge a path to Thanedice, there he would find his calling, his destiny so to speak...

From there he left, gathering all he could, he set out back across the wildlands to the fabled city, gathering as he went, hoping to find a purpose for his skills.
