Why do People Hate Bill O'Reilly?

Postby Nierra » Mon May 25, 2015 8:33 pm

Leftists scowl at the mention, and have thei pitchforks and torches at the ready when this political pundit is brought up.

But, like, why?

In all honesty the guy is a fairly sensible and moderate guy even if you don't agree with him. He's incredibly intelligent, despite what atheists might say but in all honesty I just don't understand the hatred.

Jon Stewart's friendship with him obviously signifies that of a friendly intellectual political disagreement.

It's not even like Bill O'Reilly is the epitome of conservatism, theres a lot more people to hate much more than Bill O'Reilly, like Sean Hannity, orr Ann Ann Coulter. Why the hate for bill though? Or Megyn Kelly for that matter.

Explain yourselves leftists.

I actually don't mind him much. Sometimes even watch his show, even though he is very biased. Hannity is really the guy who pisses me off.

O'Reilly's so-called "No-Spin Zone" ticks me off, he's one of the masters of spin.

I don't dislike him, even though I disagree with him on just about every issue. I think what gets him the hate he hs has much to do with his outbursts and seeming disconnect in places. Then again, that goes for the entire Network, not just O'Reilly.

I'm not even a leftist, but this reminds me of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX77HCmJAyA

A couple of comments basically sums it up:

"Why does anyone agree to be interviewed by this guy? Everyone must know that the minute they start talking, he'll just shout over them. He's more playground bully than journalist."

"Bill O'Reilly interrupts each and every one of his guests so frequently, that they should just stay silent, let him ask ten questions, and then put the answers on twitter immediately afterwards! Any takers? No need to mention me."

"O'Reilly asks questions, but he doesn't care about the answer. He's there to present his perspective, to override anything that a guest might say that doesn't maintain the status quo -- his status quo.

This is not journalism. This is not an interview. This is a hit piece. At best, it's piss poor "news." At worst, it's downright unethical."

He is a run-of-the-mill, backwards, reactionary, poor-bashing and war-mongering conservative. Add on a few ethical boundaries he's crossed in his "reporting", and his Killing (insert person here) books that are radically counter-factual, and you have an lying idiot who doesn't belong on television.

Glenn Beck is much worse. O'Reilly isn't a moronic douchebag all the time, especially when compared to Beck.

So O'Reilly isn't a real bully? Even after he tried to interrupt and strawmen the hell out of Ron Paul?

That video didn't make O'Reilly look bad, if anything it made him look incredibly competent as he got out high power questions to his viewers that Ron Paul didn't adequately answer. That's a political pundit doing his job right, he's not there to paint the facts hes there to scrutinize high profile politicians and showcase the political philosophy of his viewers.

Ron Paul spewed out several cliches, name called O'Reilly, and said nothing to address what would happen if the US left the theater.

Your comments listed are practically the only "attacks" that can really be placed on O'Reilly, he's loud and obnoxious. That's really it.

Like every other political pundit doesn't do the same? If you can't strike down a strawman you have no business being in politics to be frank.

Why do I hate him? Because he has called for vigilante style killings of abortion providers (no, I don't have the link, I saw it years ago on Countdown). Because he lies with regularity and shows no remorse about it. Because he celebrates guys who take pot shots at federal officers enforcing the law. Because when it comes down to it, he doesn't care about the human suffering his words inspire, just the ratings and money he can generate.

...What? The pertinent question is if O'Reilly is a real bully. Not if every other political pundit does this. If any other pundit does it, then they are obviously a "real bully" by the standard sets by the OP.

I don't dislike him (he's actually one of the better Fox News hosts) but I certainly don't agree with him on major key issues. Sometimes he also says some stupid things like his plan to destroy ISIL with a large mercenary army in Syria. When I try and watch Fox for my dose of conservatism I usually chose him since out of everyone their he's possibly the most sane aside from Shepard Smith who is the best as far as Fox News comintators go.

No he isn't. If you watch his show, pretty much everything he says is an example of dog-whistle politics - mischaracterizing the arguments of people on the other side to make it seem like they're pro-deadbeat, pro-terrorist, and "anti-American," whatever that means.

He has an unintelligent audience that buys into said dog-whistle politics. He's playing to the emotions of people that watch him.

Just look at the way he interviews. If he brings a liberal on his show, it's usually someone who's also not that bright whose views border on left-wing caricature, so that O'Reilly can easily cut them off and make them look stupid.

Anyway, this is clearly a bait thread, with OP calling everyone who doesn't agree a "leftist," which is an incredibly politically charged word to conservatives. Just wanted to throw in my $0.02. The only way you could call him "intelligent" is that he's smart in the sense that he knows exactly what will get his viewers riled up.

I don't question the man's integrity or honesty, which already places him above many of the politicians, big businesses, and celebrities of the world, but I doubt that me and him would find much to agree upon in regards to policy from what I have seen and heard of his views. That being said, simple differences with a person on our dispositions towards religion and politics is no reason for me to express for that person as an individual.

After seeing the way he treated Bernie Sanders, I can't respect his journalism ethic (though I don't dislike the man himself). He doesn't respectfully debate. He instead uses ad hominem attacks and mischaracterizes his opponent's statements for the sake of a soundbite that is tailored for a conservative audience.

Example:

"Senator, you are a self-described socialist?"
"Let me explain that posi-"
"Senator, answer my question, you are a self-described socialist?"
"Yes, and I think the American people should give me a chance to explain my posi-"
"OK, you are a socialist, big government supporter. Alright."
