HEREBY

1. MANDATES that manufacturers provide clear and concise nutritional labels on all of their products;

2. REQUIRES that nations educate their citizens on proper, healthy food nutrition choices;

3. IMPLORES nations to follow the same regulations in Clause 1 if the food if it is imported from another country.

Reducing Trans Fats

DISGUSTED that trans fats are hidden in everyday foods, particularly those in the fast-food industry;

CONCERNED that there is no level of trans fats generally regarded as safe;

DISMAYED that trans fats have many negative effects, such as:

• Lowering levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol while raising levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol
• Increasing the odds of events such as heart attack or stroke
• Increase the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes

HEREBY

1. DEFINES a "trans fat" as a substance artificially created through the chemical process of hydrogenation of oils;

2. RECOMMENDS that governments take steps to reduce the consumption of trans fats;

3. IMPLORES that nations make efforts to dispose of trans fats in an environmentally responsible manner;

4. REQUIRES that manufacturers of food or drink include clear nutritional information on all of their products before release;

5. URGES nations to properly educate their citizens on healthy nutrition and food choices.

On a more serious note, while I agree that trans fats are useless, I do believe the WA should respect the right of member nations to make whatever diabetes-inducing junk it wants. It doesn't hurt anyone but the people who choose to eat it.

Yes in hindsight, a moderate stance should be taken such as a tax on foods containing trans fats, and discounted prices on healthy products.
