Hey. I just watched a documentary about EDL and I'd like to start a discussion.

I kind of like these people. They're basically the kind of people I'd like to have as friends and most of them seems to have come from football. However, at football they've got loyalties to seperate clubs and their firms, which means that EDL as an organisation effectively must have torn down natural borders and devides, thus also destroying precisely those subcultures which most of their supporters comes from.
As much as Islam may be a threat to the true British culture so are the attempts by EDL leaders to control people who take part in their demonstrations. What started out as individuals spontanely defending their nation would by necessity have to lead to watered out unity, which would basically kill the whole thing, if they were to be recognised as a serious political movement by mainstream media.

Basically I think EDL are right and because of it I think they should disband their organisation. I believe that's what'd do their cultures the best.

Well, I'm throwing pearls for pigs here, but I can't quite judge if that's for better or worse. As an outsider it'd be hard to criticise their way of organisation and for them to take me seriously, while at the same time it has to be an outsider, cause otherwise it'd only be changing leaders. Not actually disenfranchising the movement.

From my experience that's precisely the kind of description which tends to be directed people who are nice to hang around with and allround just good people. What I generally don't like is when people mix between different clubs, although there are some friendships which are so strong that they turn out more naturally.

What difference does the colour of the nitwits kicking a football on a field make? Ethnicism doesn't need shirts to make targets, just different melanin levels, and that's what the EDL's all about; finding the ones with more and killing them for it.

I don't understand how you can like football and like firms. The characters in the EDL are not leaders of supporters group or hardcore fans, they are thugs who seemingly enjoy the fight to actual football. Yes they've managed to get rid of interclub rivalry but only to replace it with something far more dangerous.

Of course I oppose radical Islam, as any sane person opposes religious radicals. The EDL however did not/will not solve the problem. They are a symptom not a solution.

No they didn't. The EDL hasn't distracted football fans from their rivalries or the game. The EDL just managed to give thugs who had been banned from various grounds for violence an outlet to be vile and aggressive towards brown people instead of people from the next town along.

Well British culture is a broad spectrum. I think it would be disingenuous to say that people in the EDL aren't representatives of British culture and people. It's just an element we can be a bit embarrassed about.
