What's your nation's drinking age minimum, with an explanation.

In the New Finnish Republic, men and women aged 18 and up are allowed to purchase and consume alcohol. The reasoning behind this is because of the high amount of alcohol consumption at that age, legislatures decided it'd be prudent to set the age limit there, with a 6% tax on all alcoholic beverages purchased.

Depends on the state. States have a right to set any age that is at least the minimum age set by a Confederal law passed in 1997. The minimum age is 16, however most states have an age of 18. There are two that have the legal drinking age at 20 however.

In Gandoor, there are two legal drinking ages. At the age of 16, one is legally permitted to drink alcoholic beverages in the privacy of ones own home, and at the age of 18, one is permitted to both drink in public places (excepting those that forbid alcoholic beverages, of course) and purchase alcoholic beverages. Incidentally, since in Gandoor, mandatory education ends at the age of 20 (and you are not recognized as a legal adult until that age), one can purchase and drink alcohol before graduating secondary school. (Of course, schools have a strict "no alcohol policy", so...)
