Hogwarts: A New Era, Book 1: The Goblin's Tithe

Dear young wizards and witches,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed you will find a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

Years since the Boy who Lived vanquished He Who Must Not Be Named, and in the wake of this the wizarding world has been forever changed as it enters a new era. One that had initially been heralded through with great pomp and ceremony as an era of change, peace, stability and of reform, despite however auspicious and hopeful beginnings; things were not to last. The slow burning flame of Squib Protests, Goblin Riots and a worrying myriad of other occurrences. Change has been slow and some of the entrenched wizarding elite wary of what these changes could bring have stymied the more profound and comprehensive efforts and as a result old grievances are beginning to arise once more, and some begin to whisper in secret that the terror of the past could return, or worse another Wizard War. The Minister of Magic Thorfinn Ellesmere has yet to successfully quell the rising tension, but the future holds many twists.

Despite this, life goes on, and as ever young wizards and witches travel to Hogwarts on the Hogwarts express to begin their own magical journey, forge your own character with their own and embark on a magical journey. Which house will you be in? Will you find friends? Will you succeed in your classes? Will you make the Quidditch team? Will you find love? Will you be tempted to join the dark forces on the rise? Your choices are where the real magic begins!

Appearance

History: Saule was the first born to his parents Porver and Anna Aurum in a small cottage brimming with magic as Anna constantly wished, the persistence of magic was her favorite pastime. Every night Saule's mother would read him a story and cast a spell before him to enlist wonder in his eyes and, subconsciously, in his heart. Anna had worked at Hogwarts as a teacher while Porver was a baker in the town of Gellet a ways away from the cottage. Upon attending Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, it was in his third year that Saule was determined to become a teacher like his mother. It wouldn't be until after the time of Harry Potter that he would fulfill this dream and come under the direct tutelage of Minerva McGonagall. McGonagall was a strict teacher, instructing Saule to not only know the rules as they had been for centuries, but to maintain the students safety at all costs. Soon McGonagall fell ill, and decided to retire peacefully away from the chaos and excitement her life had formerly entailed and personally selected Saule as the new Headmaster of Hogwarts, leaving him many lessons and a few final words. "Be wary of questions, I have often found that those who are looking for the most answers will find the most trouble. Yet it is not they who are the problem, trust the instincts of children sometimes. As odd as it may seem, because before they can become jaded by the temptations that exist in our world, they will try to do right ans as they are taught. Magic has brought them here, take the hint," she said, and with that Minerva McGonagall had left Hogwarts.
The new philosophy of Hogwarts was to prepare students for the next step, as trouble had brewed amongst the wizarding world Hogwarts would soon be re emerged into the grander scheme of things. Headmaster Aurum had redesigned the Headmasters office, and it foreshadowed the small changes he would make to the old institutions. Putting even more focus on class time and magical ability, the headmaster guided the curriculum to be better for the wizarding world, not simply for an exam.

Personality: Often suspicious of students and people, disgusted with squibs

Appearance

History: Born to Cornelius Lawe, Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic, and Matilda Lawe, a shopkeeper from Diagon Alley. During the rise of the Dark Lord, Matilda was found in trouble with Death Eater's and was brought in to the ministry, ultimately to never be seen again. After the events of Harry Potter and Hogwarts, her father Cornelius gained his position in the Ministry. He raised Melinda in her final and more formative years and she quickly became an adept student through potion making and in duels. Her time in Hogwarts marked her as one of the most dangerous duelers in all of Hogwarts, skills she constantly refined and finessed to nearly no ends. She often studied in her time away from school, at the demand of her father, and hoped to one day work for the ministry. Her dreams would be altered by her father who recommended her to become a professor at Hogwarts, taking on the cursed Defense Against the Dark Arts class, she has begrudgingly working there for nearly five years. During her tenure at Hogwarts Lawe was responsible for the firing of long time caretaker, Argus Filch. As Filch was a squib her hatred for them, an unexplained natural prejudice, caused her to often rant and rave about him to the Headmaster of the time Minerva McGonagall. Lawe began to even use her magic to cause damage to things Filch had recently fixed, of which she would soon report to other professors and Headmistress McGonagall. Once Filch was relieved and ultimately planned to retire anyhow, her next target was the aging Headmistress. Yet upon McGonagall's decision to hire Aurum, her detest and anger grew considerably so and causes her class to be one of the most dreaded at Hogwarts. So much so that the Daily Prophet did an article quoting the professor saying, "If anyone dislikes my curriculum they are more than likely the ones failing it. If they applied half the attention they give to their friends and bad lifestyle choices then they'd have a chance of passing." She remains at Hogwarts as few can match her talents and even fewer dare to challenge her for the job.

Weaknesses: Professor Lawe has a natural bias to Slytherin making her other students suffer, and noticeably so to her colleagues putting her job at risk at times.

Personality: Aloof at times, Lucinda has an affinity for never staying incredibly focused

History: Lave (pronounced Lay v) was seemingly self raised and independant from the very beginning of her life. With no father to guide her brothers, she was the subject to magical tricks and pests at every turn of childhood. Once she began attending Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw, she was subsequently pulled out in her third year by her mother who needed help with the run down house rather than someone good at "magic tricks." Over time she returned to the magical world, peddling a small street cart in Diagon Alley where she sold wands she had personally tried to repair. Soon she came across a young writer who was interested in her story as she was a fair girl on gritty streets, the perfect subject. His name was Gilderoy Lockhart. She fell in love quickly with the writer as he told her of his hopes and dreams and his wish to be a celebrity, but soon would include her into his ideas. Lave had wanted to create childrens books after seeing how he wrote of their love story and created magic where there was normalcy, she wanted to mirror the magic in her heart to the page and began to write. Her first story was of an awful troll, she knew little of the actual danger of them but had read and told the story of a boy with wonder in his eyes, daring to save the love of his life from a nasty troll the size of a mountain. Her story was loved by Gilderoy and he read it endlessly and loved it so much he wanted her to publish it. Lave protested at the thought, wanting her work to be perfected over time and she wanted to illustrate the pages further.

It wasn't long before her story took a turn for darker times. The book "Travels with Trolls" was published by Gilderoy and as she read it, it struck a striking resemblance to her unnamed story. She wouldn't dare confront Lockhart with her suspicions and later asked him of publishing her storybook, to which the cruel heart said to her, "Publish? No no, my career is beginning to ascend, perhaps you should remain home. I'm establishing a life for us, our dreams!" She hated the idea of staying home and maintaining the house like her mother before her. As the years crept upon her, her love faded, Gilderoy's fame increased. Thereafter Lave became inquisitive in her study of charms, during her short time at Hogwarts her favorite professor was Filius Flitwick and his calm demeanor while casting such beautiful magic was a blend in her life she could explore. In 2003 she wrote her first book, "Dangers in the Dungeon" a story of the cruelty of creatures both magical and not. The dedication to her only publication read: "To you. The one who stole my heart and then my pages, the latter I could never do without"
After this book she became a favorite among children due to the beautiful illustrations and a treasure for the scorned as she spoke out for women who were mistreated and for the furthering of publication rights. In 2006, she was offered a glorious opportunity to become the Professor of Charms at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her interview with then Headmistress Minerva McGonagall was a short one. "If you're who I believe you to be, the student's are in great shape," said Minerva at the end of the interview. Professor Crox has been teaching ever since and plans to visit Gilderoy at St. Mungos Hospital, leaving a copy of her book, opened to the dedication.

Personality: The "trying to be cool" teacher, Ben is often seen as a bit odd in comparison to other Professors

History: Sigmund is a former member of the Ministry of magic (2000-2004) but left due to conflicts of overall interests. He took his job at Hogwarts and is often subject to ridicule and detest from Professor Melinda Lawe. Despite this, he remains confident in his job as a personal favorite of Headmaster Aurum.

Personality: A biting tongue mixed with a warm heart, if you are not a Slytherin, Professor Norfle is often said to be a Hogwarts favorite of the newer classes and teachers

History: Little is truly known about Amanda other than that she attended Hogwarts not long ago and was sorted into Hufflepuff, this is her first full year actually teaching at Hogwarts

Personality: Funny and kind unless aggravated, Sal is a teacher that is fun to be around.
Appearance:
History: Orphaned at birth, Sal lived in St. Addora's Orphanage for Lost Boys until one day he received a letter inviting him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he proved to be a powerful wizard, and was offered a spot on staff when he graduated. Eventually he took over as professor of Potions, and that led him to this year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Interests: Potions, flying
Strengths: Potion-making, charms
Weaknesses: He doesn't know how to swim, and water is his greatest fear.

Name: Arthur Prescott

Age: 51

Wand: Holly, dragon heartstring, ten inches, firm

Pet: An infant griffin, not nearly as dangerous as its wild parents

Blood-status: Muggle Born

Family: Father: Jonathon Prescott (deceased). Mother: Olivia Prescott (deceased). Brother: Andrew Prescott (deceased).

Personality: An amiable man with an easy smile and unending patience, Arthur is a magnificent actor. He is known to go from pliable to steel in seconds, and those students that anger him soon learn what it means to look neatly-bottled rage. Of course, Arthur is not actually mad--it is all a facade used to ensure his students give him the greatest attention possible, and it was a facade he learned well from his past. Underneath, Arthur has an almost-unending love for humanity, and refuses to his best extends to harm others. His cleverness and extensive wisdom have coupled with this in such a way that he can usually resolve a situation without doing permanent harm.

Appearance: Arthur is a reasonably tall man with long hair and a beard so vast it reaches his waist. He uses his hair to hide his scars, which he still keeps as a personal reminder. His eyes are a light shade of brown, and often those that know him best consider that he is looking elsewhere with them while staring right at them. When he smiles, several lines appear by his eyes and mouth.

History: Arthur was born in the winter of 1977, putting him only three years ahead of the famed Harry Potter. Like Harry Potter, he was sorted in Gryffindor House, though the Sorting Hat remained remarkably silent--even to Arthur--at this time. Once in school, Arthur displayed skill but nothing extraordinary, expect in Transfiguration. In this field, he was found to be exceptionally gifted, and Professor McGonagall took a special interest in him, as he was both a Gryffindor and a skilled wizard in Transfigurations. Over the years, the bond between the two became stronger and so did Arthur's capabilities in Transfiguration, and Arthur would often follow her heed, supporting her positions (including her belief in and loyalty to Harry Potter) throughout their time together. When he took his O.W.L.s, though he earned an excellent in Defense Against the Dark Arts, he earned an outstanding in Transfiguration. He later took both for N.E.W.T.s, though there was a clear distinction in his abilities in Transfiguration. When he left Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall encouraged him to consider pursuing a career in developmental Transfiguration, especially in conjuration, which Arthur describes as "the most noble form of Transfiguration; to give something that was not a chance to be."

Once he left Hogwarts, Arthur toured the wizardly world with his brother Andrew, whom was two years his senior. They spent much time in the Orient, where Arthur learned to work with odder forms of Transfiguration he had not been exposed to at Hogwarts. The two spent two years traveling, though when they learned of Voldemort's seizure of the Ministry of Magic they returned to the United Kingdom to see what help they could be.

And what little help they could offer. Both being Muggle born, they ended up spending most of their time in hiding from Snatchers. However, they were eventually located by three of them while a fight ensued. They managed to incapacitate one Snatcher, but the other two killed Andrew and took Arthur captive. He was then imprisoned in Azkaban, where he learned to control himself and display outrageous calm. His resistance to the dementors was so great that he was actually moved from Azkaban to a personal prison, where he was tortured by various Death Eaters on how he resisted them. It was during this torture that Arthur learned how lie elaborately, and he crafted a complex story based of magic he had learned in Egypt, India, and China. He knew that eventually the Death Eaters would learn of his ploy, but it would have taken them several months due to the complex and careful planning of the lie. Since the Death Eaters tried to penetrate Arthur's mind at this time, he forced himself to resort to the skills in Occulemcy he had learned in Korea. Not only was he able to resist certain aspects of Legimency, but he was also able to alter what the dementors perceived as his true memories.

When Voldemort called his army for the Battle of Hogwarts, only one Death Eater was assigned to guard Arthur and he was able to escape. After recovering his wand, Arthur disapparated to Hogsmeade. He then transfigured a broom and flew to Hogwarts, in time to engage in the second portion of the battle. Though Arthur played no major role there, he is noted for defending Professor McGonagall after she, along with Horace Slughorn and Kingsley Shacklebolt, was thrown back by Voldemort in a duel.

Following the Battle, Arthur went about the wizardly world in the United Kingdom trying to find a job for himself. He was haunted by the loss of his brother and his inability to defend him, so after two years in the United Kingdom he returned to the Orient, where some of his old friends were able to teach him foreign skills in Defense Against the Dark Arts and dueling. Once he was satisfied that he was both a capable duelist and defender against the Dark Arts, Arthur returned to Hogwarts.

Professor McGonagall, for her part, had been struggling to find a replacement in Transfiguration, and it had been going poorly. When Arthur returned, she gladly accepted him back into Hogwarts as Transfiguration professor. Over time, Arthur became the Head of House for Gryffindors, though his worldly and amiable nature has disqualified any bias that he might otherwise have.

Weaknesses: Generally pacifistic, soft-spoken, Potions, depressed

Name: Chief Warlock, Harold Hamilton

Professor of: Study of Ancient Runes

Age: 50

Blood-status: Pure

Personality: A rather biased man in dealings with students, the former Chief is often described as unfair personally

History: The word former applies to Professor Hamilton quite easily as he has held numerous positions in a short amount of time, one of his newest being Professor of the Study of Ancient Runes class. As a former Slytherin he has close ties to the school of Hogwarts and was glad to be the first to apply to the position upon an unknown circumstance with the last professor. Hamilton quickly took the class and has been notorious to award the most points to Slytherin, but luckily does not deduct points from other Houses unless truly warranted.

History: After incidence of the 1998 break in, the Ministry of Magic issued a full scale investigation of Gringotts and the goblins who worked there. It was here, after a couple years, that Trabk became Head Goblin at Gringotts. The new rules held tighter regulation on the wizarding bank keepers and even went as far to nearly cause failure among the bank in late 2002. Trabk worked, along with the newly instated goblins to garner back the power of Gringotts and ease regulation from the Ministry. The crowning accomplishment for him to date has been getting a new dragon in the lower levels of Gringotts, while also repairing the damage caused in 1998. History: Cecil is the famed Headmaster of the Uagadou School of Magic. To describe him as jolly would underscore his boisterous laugh, which is perfectly combined with a powerful presence. His use of magic started at a late age for African students as he was harder to find for the school. It was from the Headmaster of the time that Cecil learned his love for not only the world of magic, but spreading that joy with others around him. In his seventh year at Uagadou, he entered the famed Tebo Hunt, the winner of which would receive a chance to spend their summer with the Ministry of Magic and a short visit to Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Tebo, a dangerous creature uses its' innate magic to evade capture. It was Cecil's use of charming food that aided him in being able to capture the beast and spend time in the UK. Upon arrival he spent time learning the wide world of magic and fell in love all over again with the wonders set before him. It was during this time he decided to pursue becoming a teacher at Uagadou School of Magic from which he graduated. First becoming the Defense Against Evils teacher (comparable to Defense Against the Dark Arts), he was quickly seen as a great dueler when it came to dark forces and creatures, and could easily integrate into a battle of any kind. His talents were best suited for charms however, and after moving to this position, he taught Charms for seven years before ultimately becoming Headmaster.

As Headmaster of Uagadou, he enlisted more active use of magic and constantly encourages students to expand the horizons. His project as of late 2014 was to start a program allowing interchangeable students with Hogwarts, where a handful of select students could come to Uagadou while his students were at Hogwarts. The program has yet to pick up steam, but is expected to be talked about after the Tri-Wizard Tournament if possible.

He was educated at home with sporadical visits to the Mapuche tribes, where they practice their own kind of magic. He married María Pilar Lontué, a half Mapuche-half Criollo (Chilean) Wizard she met at High School (who happened to be a wizard too). Her mother died in the Dark Wizard crisis some decades back, and since then she has taken into a personal endeavour her own education and that of her children of the ancestral arts of her mother´s people. Maxim Allard had just arrived into Tripoli International Airport to catch part two of his journey to Nuevo Meshiko. In the last fifteen hours he had finished packing, checked his passports and tickets, slept, woke up, said goodbyes to his friends and family at Yafran International Airport and took a short flight across KwaDai to the capital, Tripoli where the his flight to Nuevo Meshiko would take off. Here he was to meet the other KwaDaian student who was travelling as another exchange student with him. Her name was Rania al Sharif. "She was lucky", Maxim thought "She lives in Tripoli"
Maxim and Rania were part of an International Exchange student programme and would be joining up with other teenagers from around the world to experience life and school in Nuevo Meshiko.
Tripoli International Airport was a magnificent building built on the sea front in Tajoura a division of Tripoli. The airport was sleek and high-tec with three terminals, three being the one Maxim and Rania were to use today. It was hub for Imperial Arab Airways, KwaDai's luxury flag carrier.

Maxim waited on the other side of customs for Rania, she was a beautiful girl with tanned skin and dark brown hair. Her eyes were the same colour as Maxim's a light shade of brown. Maxim too was very handsome he had a lighter brown shade of hair with a more lightly tanned skin also. Like Rania his facial features were all perfect. KwaDaian people paid close attention to appearance and personal hygiene therefore they were always neat and particular about clothing and presenting themselves well. Rania wore the traditional Arabic abaya with a headscarf which did not cover her face. Maxim was wearing teal coloured chinos with a grey long sleeve polo shirt and a blue scarf, it certainly was not cold in KwaDai during the summer with temperatures averaging 34°c every day on the coast but on the evening the day before a rare summer thunderstorm and flash flood had caused a lot of cooling and reduced current temperatures down to about 28°c. It was raining whilst the two waited for their flight but not heavily.

After clearing final passport and ticket checks Rania and Maxim boarded Imperial Arab Airways Flight IA126 Maxim and Rania found their seats next to the window about halfway down Economy Class of the plane. Unlike other airlines Imperial Arab Airways Economy Class was better than most airlines business class with five star entertainment and food provided all seats were equipped with iPads and liberal amounts of legroom.

Once safety announcements and the plane took off Maxim turned to asking Rania some questions. "So Rania, we have a long flight so we may as well get to know each other better, care to share with me a little about yourself?"
"Of course, why not?, Well you know I live in Tripoli. I am 17, I like travelling, cats, meeting new people and learning new things. I have two younger brothers. Also I speak Arabic and Italian as well as English and I'm Muslim as you probably guessed. What about you?", Rania replies smiling revealing her perfect white teeth.
"Me, well I live in East Yafran with my parents, younger brother and older sister, I'm 17 and love learning languages, art and music. Previously I lived in Sabha.I am a speaker of Arabic and French as well as English but I'm learning German and hopefully Italian, oh and I'm gay but I have only come out to my friends and sister all of whom took it well and supported me and now I've just come out to you", Maxim explains waiting for Rania's reaction to it(or to one part in particular) "Awesome, I'm glad they supported you, now you have another supporter", Rania says nicely

After a few hours of talking and using iPads and watching a film the plane and Maxim and Rania began to near Nuevo Meshikan airspace and the announcements as made to remain seated and prepare for landing.

"Wow Rania, we're here, time to meet everyone else", Maxim said rather excitedly once they began to walk off the plane and into the terminal.

He got an amazing pet, a wand, which was the best part to him. He got to read through school books, the whole thing. Now, 3 years later, he still loves the school and stays for most holidays. He has gotten proficient and less than proficient at many a subject. Now, even though very strange things are happening, he's glad to be going back to Hogwarts and seeing his best friends again, and of course, playing quidditch competitively.

History: Maria's first year at Hogwarts was an interesting one. Her professors found that she was an incredibly capable student, having come to the school with a vast and near-encyclopedic knowledge. She excelled in all of her classes, and was always the first to have the answer in them. Many of her professors, come the summer's break, told her that they were eager to see her in her next year. This, perhaps, was the first instance in which her pride was fueled where her parents had simply insisted she was meeting the requirement.

In her second year, Maria again excelled. She did so well with so little effort that teachers began to wonder if she would ever meet a challenge in her life. For this reason, they began encouraging her to spend time with them in order to perfect her skills. In doing so, Maria became adept at a practical application of magic, and it was here that she became to look past theoretical concepts in magic and into the physical actions magic caused. Over the summer between her second and third years, her parents found a wizard willing to teach her how to play Quidditch. They also found her a Muggle that acted as her personal fitness coach.

When her third year at Hogwarts arrived, everyone was stunned by Maria's development. Not only was she still the vastly-intelligent and infectiously inquisitive girl they had known, but she was also incredibly fit. She applied for the Quidditch team in this year and was accepted as seeker, for which she has displayed remarkable talent. Further, in her third year Maria repeated the rarely-done but often-attempted task of taking all possible classes with the use of a time turner. Though doing this stressed Maria greatly, the fact that she spent so much time with her professors helped her along in this and allowed for her do so successfully with no marked drop in her marks. This feat has earned her the acclaim and respect of her professors.

During her fourth year, Maria began to hear people talking behind her back, mentioning how she could have been popular, but for some stupid reason chose to spend more time with teachers than with her peers. As to why this happened, Maria was unsure, and in a response typical of her she began to read on the matter. She invested herself greatly in social theory while also balancing her schedule between Quidditch and her studies. Like a boulder balanced on a feather, it was bound to come crumbling down. It did with surprising violence towards the end of her fourth year, when Maria was having an argument with one of her classmates on a curse which set things not only on fire, but which acted with quasi-sentience to destroy only the thing they burned. Impatient with the blatant incorrectness of her peer, Maria turned to a tree and cast spell on it. The tree was reduced to ashes within seconds (though Maria was right, the fire didn't spread) and Maria was sent to her House Head to explain the situation. After that incident, Maria spent little time discussing spells with her peers. Instead, she resolved to learn more about them by herself. This was the first time her inquisitive nature led her to break taboo--Maria began to study the Dark Arts.

Knowing she wasn't able to study them at Hogwarts openly, she spent the summer between her fourth and fifth year in Scandinavia, where she spent time with the Dark Arts teacher from Durmstang. Though technically still under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Magic, the influence of both of her parents was enough to stop them intervening in her studies. For this reason, Maria continued to study over the summer, and became proficient in the basics of the Dark Arts. Her unbound intellect and surprising competency in the field allowed her to make up the four years of study that she had missed. When she returned to Hogwarts the following year, she discreetly brought with herself several books on the Dark Arts.

Maria was made a prefect in her fifth year, to the surprise of few. This one done in the hopes that Maria would become a more open person, and would be able to socialize with her peers more easily. This proved incorrect. Upon being made a perfect, Maria became even stricter and more high-strung, and intimidated many of the first years with her actions. When she arrived back at Hogwarts, her House Head questioned her one this, to which Maria replied: "I take all the courses I possibly could, I play Quidditch, and I have been made a prefect. I fail to see how one can possibly complain that I am not calm enough." Maria stormed from her Head House's offices after, and her relations with her professors soured somewhat after that. However, she still attended them after classes, and they still helped her master what she had been taught to the best of their abilities. It was therefore unsurprising when Maria unanimously scored outstanding on her O.W.L.s. Maria still played Quidditch, though she began remarkably more aggressive in her playing style and the other players of her team know to give her a wide berth. Someone once remarked, towards the end of her fifth year, that she was so aggressive that she probably dueled at home.

To rise to the challenge, Maria did practice dueling over the summer. She returned to Scandinavia again in the summer, and continued to extend her power in the Dark Arts. While doing so, however, she also practiced dueling with her teacher, and showed an odd proficiency in this as well. Such was her skill in both fields that she began to duel regularly in the Dark Arts with her tutor, learning new spells in the night and executing them in the morning. One morning, however, Maria was practicing with her master when a Muggle boy found them. She rounded on them, meaning to cast a curse that would destroy the boy's mind, but was stopped by her teacher. Inside, he simply altered the Muggle's memory and influenced his thoughts so that he would leave. With a dire warning, her tutor told her, "Remember this: I teach the Dark Arts because I do not restrain knowledge, but nothing shall stop me from restraining violence." The thought stuck strongly to Maria, and she has held it close to herself since.

Upon returning to Hogwarts in her sixth year, Maria took strides to become more patient with the first years. She also went to her House Head's room at her first opportunity and apologized for her actions. While Maria did not feel sorry, she made herself mean it all the same. She resolved to be a better person, not because she wanted to be, but because it was the right thing to do. She even began to tutor younger students that were struggling to keep up, and helped those students preparing for her O.W.L.S. by using the Room of Requirement (at the Headmaster's permission) as a studying ground. So impressed were her professors on her improvement that for most of the year they taught her advanced spells that she would not normally learn at Hogwarts, as a reward for her efforts. Then, a week before the summer break arrived, Maria's collection of books were found--not limiting, of course, her extensive and detailed collection of books on the Dark Arts.

Before any real action could be taken, the school year ended. As a departing note, Maria's House Head addressed her, saying: "Be careful. Wisdom and knowledge are different things." Maria largely ignored her comment, reporting with, "A true Ravenclaw searches without fail for both." Maria promptly returned home for a few days before spending almost all of her summer in Scandinavia, mastering her dueling and skill at Dark Arts to such proficiency that even her tutor is not entirely sure how dangerous she is, or if, come the time, he could restrain her without damaging force.

Family: Muggle mother, wizard father. His father is a distant cousin of Severus Snape, although the two never actually met and their exact genealogical relationship is unknown.

Personality: Studious and hard working, a bit of a loner but in fact friendly and cheerful when approached as long as it doesn't interfere with his work. In other words, the quintessential Ravenclaw.

Appearance: Average height, black hair, shoulder length but meticulously groomed and dark blue eyes.

History: Orion Prince was born in London where he lived until the age of nine. He exhibited magic at a young age much to the pride of both parents and his mother in particular. When he was nine his father got into trouble with a particularly vicious group of goblins over gold and the family was forced to flee for their lives. The Princes have been on the run ever since. But this did not stop an owl from reaching Orion with his Hogwarts letter, which came as a great relief to his parents. Orion could stay at Hogwarts out of harm's way while they attempted to resolve their dispute with the goblins.

The dispute with the goblins was not settled, though and Orion's parents are still in hiding. He has almost no contact with them during the year and rarely even knows where they are living until they pick him up off the Hogwarts express at the start of summer. Consequently, Hogwarts has become the most stable home Orion has.

Interests: Reading, potions, magical history
