2035. 20 years after a plague of unknown proportion spread rapidly across the world while killing billions. Nothing is left of the old world but memories.
China had been creating a series of projects but one, called WES-473-94 was their best product developed in May 2015. It was still unknown what the Chinese government was using the project for. After much dispute about the project now being called a “virus” by the government, China locked it away. What the Chinese government didn’t know was that a sample of the virus had infected a scientist.
This scientist or “Patient Zero” returned home to Beijing where his symptoms of WES-473-94 grew worse and worse. Little to the doctors that treated him, he was infected with something they had never seen. Patient Zero was sent to a local hospital where he then died. But he didn’t stay dead. When he was taken to the morgue, a nursed noticed that the bag moved and that the body bag wasn’t closed. When she went to close it, the man bit her. Thus, the spread of WES-473-94 began.
The hospital was overwhelmed by the infected individuals. Local law enforcement were called in but several of them were infected as well. The military was then called in as the virus began to spread through the streets of Beijing. The capital of China was then put under quarantine but news of what was happening in the city was kept from leaking out. In a last ditch effort, the government ordered a firebombing of the city. It was kept covered up as a terrorist attack. But Beijing was just the beginning of a world ending scenario.
Soldiers and civilians that were infected and fled Beijing help spread the disease around China. The virus spread to about 439,000,000 people in China by the 5th week of the incident and the death toll reaching 258,205,829. This epidemic then reached the ears of national governments, many of which prohibited travel in and out of China. Shanghai fell in a fiery ruin as the country became overrun with what was being called the “Wánglíng”, Chinese for “undead”.
By December, the infection was reported in nearby India in the city of Kolkata. It then ravaged the city with the Indian government putting blame on China. Little by little, India began to have a hard time controlling the virus due to its current state. India was then overwhelmed along with China. With the top 2 most populated countries falling to WES-473-94, a massive wave of chaos hit Asia. Soon Japan and Russia had reported the virus within their borders by February. After the fall of Moscow in late February, reports of the virus had appeared in every nation in the world including the United States.
By April, Africa and India were completely overrun with the undead outnumbering the living due to their poverty stricken conditions, China had completely collapsed and Tokyo was going under. The governments then took to control this virus. Extensive cure research was being done by the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Brazil among many others. An estimated 600,000,000 people had died by now with an even greater 800,000,000 infected worldwide. Martial law had been declared in 28 nations by June including the United States and Canada.
However, the United Nations had declared a worldwide state of emergency as mass panic swept the globe. Member nations began to pull out of the U.N. due to the spread of the virus, France and South Africa among them. Eventually, the U.N. disbanded when the United States and Russia left. Entire cities burned to the ground as the world entered a dark age.
Within weeks, the virus consumed the United States and within months, the world. Cities were incinerated by the military in an attempt to rid them of the undead. Washington D.C. and Philadelphia were purged in this matter. The infected numbers reached 1 billion by August and communications were lost from over 60 cities in the U.S. and over 300 worldwide. Europe fell pretty fast due to the population with Italy and Germany biting the dust. France had sent it’s military to fight in the North and South while Spain and Portugal hit it out in a joint strike on Lisbon. Canada and Mexico were overrun with infected refugees heading from the United States spreading their panic quicker.
By November of 2016, Australia, Poland, Japan and Argentina had fallen with several more countries following soon after. No one was counting on how many cities, towns and villages that were overrun. By 2017, national governments had fallen with the death toll at 3.5 billion. Nukes had been used by Russia, China and the United States to clear their cities of the undead only to leave some irradiated. The places free of infection would be areas of Scandinavia, Northern Canada, Iceland, Greenland, the Amazon in South America, Himalayas and much of Siberia. Now the old world is gone and many new governments rose up to replace the old.
