What is your Head of State's and/or Head of Government's religious beliefs and does this create any conflict among the populace? Is there, perhaps, only one religion that a politician must adhere to have any chance of being elected? Do the voters care what the candidate's religion is? Do your candidates flaunt their religion during election time or keep it private?


Our Prime Minister, for example, is a devout Roman Catholic. When asked the question "Would you vote for a Roman Catholic candidate?", these were the responses:

Our Chancellor's religious beliefs have been the subject of some controversy; some state he is an atheist (although he has personally denied this label and claims to belief in God). General consensus is that he is a spiritual agnostic pantheist.

The head of state, the President of the People's Republic is a (Soto) Zen Buddhist and seems to have found an equilibrium between religion and politics. There's complete religious freedom in the People's Republic, but since the majority of the population are Buddhists, Buddhism is the only religion which is financialy supported. There's no prosecution or opression of disciples of other religions or philosophies and the construction of temples, mosques and churches is allowed.

In general there's no disturbing religious unrest in the nation, although sometimes there are protest marches or minor clashes, especialy between Christians and Atheists. In a public enquiry, 20% of the total population admitted they find the Christian way of preaching provocative or annoying, even sometimes radical.

In the matriarchy of Alpinistan, religion&spirituality does not get acknowleged much, its clearly hold out of the gouvernment, meaning offically all citizen are defined as Nihilists. However its eithers own business what he actually believe, as long it is not demanded in official purposes, which will most likely tracked down.

Kyle Metzgar: Taken the pieces that make sense to him, from many religions, and follows that belief system, which is currently unnamed.
Ein Metzgar: Has no religion. In the 10 years since her creation this concept has never been brought up to her. Hearing others talk about it, have (has? Help me grammar Nazis!) Interested her, but she has yet to research this topic.
Johnathan Myer: Agnostic.
There is no Intolerance in 2nd PLT, At least not visible and regularly practiced. Ever since Black Watch, under orders from the tribunal, rounded up and publicly executed all known Klansmen and Neo Nazi's, intolerance, and it's associated actions have become largely underground.

Despite his Christian upbringing, the Chrisman Union's head of state, President Christian Veldt, is agnostic. Religion plays an incredibly small part in the politics of the Union, with voters more concerned about their candidates policies than which god they believe in.

"Has", in this case. -ing words like "hearing", which are usually verbs but turn into nouns once in a while, are singular nouns, so they behave like "he/she/it" and would use "has".

Anyhow, during elections, most voters don't really care what religion candidates are. The only time it would become an issue is if candidates are seen as too outspokenly fundamentalist and/or likely to force their own religious views on others. So most candidates don't talk about their religion; our head of state didn't, and he doesn't appear to be a member of any organized religion.

That said, some curious people have managed to track down some of his interviews from back when he was a governor, and those suggest that he might be a Deist, or at least believe in some sort of moral standard beyond human creations. A belief in some objective force/standard is actually quite popular in Zwangzug...even if many citizens won't admit it for fear of being kicked out of the cool lefty clubs.

There aren't too many demographic prejudices when it comes for voting for head of state, though this is no doubt helped by the fact that the role isn't too powerful. When it comes to Parliamentary elections, which are done by region, women are fairly well-represented, but there are probably some districts that a Bigtopian would have a harder-than-usual time winning.

Edit: Ooh, just thought of something. If a candidate claims to be a member of an organized religion, but doesn't attend services/show any evidence of being such, or, alternatively, claims not to believe in any higher power but does follow rituals/taboos/arcane customs of a religious group...voters would probably be less likely to support them.

This church is part of the Geldican Christian Communion, a branch of Christianity that evolved from the Celtic Christianity introduced to the Geldican Coscivian ethnic groups by early Irish missionaries.

Most Kiravians are Coscivian Theists or Christians (many practise both religions), so there has been no opposition to Candrin's appointment for religious reasons. However, although the vast majority of Kiravians are Montheists, they adhere to one (or more) of many religions, denominations, traditions, schools of thought, none of which come close to forming a majority. As such, Kiravians have a tolerant attitude toward religion, and it does not come into play in politics.
