So basically, in stark contrast the notion that the burden of proof is on the accuser, people are being asked for blood samples to rule themselves out as culprits in a murder case.

Question; what's stopping the cops from using the gathered DNA to bust drug users instead? And not just any drug users, but especially ones who criticize the police? This is what cops DO. They know almost everyone smokes weed and drinks underage, but they do seem quick to get people who criticize the police on doing the same. Isn't that why we have privacy laws in the first place?

I tried to think of a good way to be sarcastic about this, but I couldn't. So I'll be blunt: complaining about people willingly cooperating with the police, with no coercion or force involved, is not a bad thing, and the idea that it is a bad thing is fucking stupid.

Incidentally, I do think people are downright stupid for handing over DNA to be officially recorded in a database which can be referenced anytime forever.

However, being fuck ass stupid is not something I consider especially oppressive.

Well, I can't say for sure, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd say that it's probably a number of laws allowing anyone whose name was published to sue their asses off.

All it takes is a little unlucky secondary transfer and ambiguous decay factors to put your DNA at a crime scene in a place you've never been. Juries love DNA proof.

Yup. If I did do it, I'm not going to give DNA anyways; if I didn't, then not giving DNA wastes their time and mine.
