Snow in your nation

Postby Australian rePublic » Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:38 pm

❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
Does it ever snow in your nation?
If so, how often?
Where?
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it?
Have most of your people seen snow? (In person)

In Australia, we have hundreds of islands and archipelagos, two major islands (the mainland and Tasmania) and an Antarctic Territory.

The archipelagos and islands are located either extremely remote or extremely close to the mainland. There is very little snow if any on these islands. Whilst it does have ski resorts, most people on the mainland have never seen snow (and if so, maybe once or twice) and consider it a novelty.
It snows in some areas of Tasmania, and people can travel to them easily.

We should mention that outside of Antarctica is mostly tropical and sub-tropical. Antarctica itself consists of 40% of our entire territory, though has fewer than 100,000 residents.

In Antarctica, snow is a part of life (like grass or trees), most have only seen snow when in their continent.

What about your nation?

First off:

Is this a repost of an old thread or no?

Secondly:

Does it ever snow in your nation? Yes.
If so, how often? Seven to eight months of the year, if it's mild. Nine if it's not.
Where? Everywhere.
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it? It's fun at first, but when the drifts reach three metres high and the Navy sails through it, the novelty is mostly worn off.
Have most of your people seen snow? No. All of 'em have.

Does it ever snow in your nation? That depends on which planet it is.

If so, how often? Cybertron, never, not even at the poles. Earth, depends where you are. Other planets vary.

Where? Earth, often - all the time at both poles, lots close to them, and occasionally further out. Never near the equator. Other planets - depends on the planet. If there's water on a planet, it typically turns to snow at least near the poles.

Do your people like snow? No!

Is it considered a novelty? Yes, but not in a good way. We often make derogatory remarks about the "poor engineering" of planets that have "junk" that falls out of the sky or that have seasons (Cybertron has neither).

Or do they hate it? Snow is detested. It's hard to walk through, and if you try to land on it (transforming from plane mode in the air and landing on foot, typically still at some speed), you're likely to slide, fall on your rear, and bend your hip connection frame. Those who have to land in such conditions have taken to blasting it to vapor before attempting to land.

Have most of your people seen snow? Not up close. While we often see white stuff from space as we approach planets, we try not to land in those areas. If there's a huge oil deposit under some snowy area, we typically just wait until summer to go raid it. The exception is if a target planet typically has soft ground and a deep rock table. Then, the winter freeze makes it possible for us giant, heavy robots to walk in areas that'd just suck us under during warmer seasons - and the raid is timed accordingly. Still, the vast majority of us just stick to areas with much friendlier terrains and climates.

Snow is uncommon in Brellach. The temperatures in the southern and eastern regions of the country rarely drop below 15°C even in winter, while vast swathes of the the central regions are scorching hot savannah, with little precipitation of any kind. Snow has been known to fall in the more temperate, wet western areas, where the temperature can approach 0°C in winter. The northern grasslands, while the coldest (on average) area of Brellach, does not experience much snow.

The novelty value of snow when it does fall is, therefore, great amongst Brellachi children, who will often take the opportunity to enjoy it. For tribals it is more of an inconvenience, and makes survival more difficult - in the event of heavy snowfall, they will often migrate away from the area until it clears.

Snow is quite common during winter (June-August) but only at high altitudes or southern latitudes. It can occur almost anytime between late-autumn and early-spring. Snow can occur all year round on the Andes, even at the height of summer (December-February).

Whilst common, it rarely falls in great quantities and more usually falls 'little but often'. It also rarely lies for long periods, lasting no more than a few days on the ground before ambient temperatures melt it. On higher grounds, however, snow can lie persistently and thickly for entire winters.

Does it ever snow in your nation? Yes but only in the south. Areas north of Krostuk (excluding the Alizerian Alps) have never experienced snow.

If so, how often? Overall it's quite rare. The ocean tends to prevent temperatures in Alizeria from dropping too much, but in the south snow can usually be expected at least one a year.

Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it?

Farmers tend to hate it as it can be dangerous to livestock - especially to newborn lambs - however most other people consider it a novelty and it's not uncommon for schools and workplaces to close on snow days.

Does it ever snow in your nation? It snows a lot...
If so, how often? The snow holds from November to start of March or end of February.
Where? In the whole damn country...
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it? Srpska People love snow, every year everyone goes outside to build a snowman or have a snow fight. The Military uses snow often for camo during combat, and they're pretty much used to cold than much warmth.

Does it ever snow in your nation? Yes, but only in the southern parts of the country that are above 500 meters. It would usually be too warm at these degrees, but the very cold winds from Antarktis (it is written wi a 'k' because i follow the regional map, not the RL world map) ensure a cold climate.
If so, how often? Around May-August, as we are a Southern Hemisphere nation.
Where? It usually snows in the Southern Highlands during June-August, and there have been recorded year-round snow in these areas several times in the last 50 years.
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it? The local population appreciate snow, although the Antarktic blizzards are not welcomed by anyone, but happen usually once a year. However, tourists, usually from much warmer countries like Valaran and Bratislav, see it as uncomfortable.
Have most of your people seen snow? Those that live in the southern parts, maybe all the way up to the capital Novkran, have seen snow. People that live in the other parts of the country have usually never seen snow.

Some parts of the union have constant snow, meaning it never melts. Almost everyone has at least seen snow. Everyone grew accustomed to it and it's just a part of there everyday lives, no one really bothers playing in it.

It never snows in Fatatatutti but snow globes are readily available. They are a favorite of tourists who get the Fatatatutian sense of humour.

Ice is also very rare. There's a running joke that if you want ice in your drink you'd better bring your own. We do, however, have one hockey arena, which was kindly given to us by the good people of Tutlingberg.

Does it ever snow in your nation? Yes
If so, how often? During winter. It snows a lot in the north, west, and inland. It can also snow in the east, but it doesn't snow often in the south.
Where? See above.
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it? Depends on who you ask. Usually people inland get tired of snow, because there is a very harsh winter climate there, and the people from the south would find snow interesting.

Does it ever snow in your nation? Varies; on some planets it will never snow, mainly because they're far too hot for there to even be rain.
If so, how often? Varies; the outer rim planets are frozen year round while planets, (such as Virgo 9) never have snow(or water).
Where? Mostly seen at the poles, but can be seen fully enveloping some planets.
Do your people like snow? There are mixed opinions, some wish it would stop snowing, some just wish for rain.
Have most of your people seen snow? All civilians of capable military entrance has seen snow at least once in their life.

Snow is very common in our norther cities, and many of them hold Snow festivals in the winter.

Being pure white, the Exceptionalists naturally adored the snow, but stopped the snow festivals as they were "sinful".

Does it ever snow in your nation? Only in the northernmost Earth territory, Restored Olwe.
If so, how often? About 3 months of the year, sometimes slightly more or less.
Where? As mentioned above, Restored Olwe. It's snowing there right now, in fact.
Do your people like snow? Is it considered a novelty? Or do they hate it? Most of them who have seen it hate it... Olweans prefer warmer temperatures, which is why our choice in new land for the Empire usually skews toward the tropical.
Have most of your people seen snow? Actually, most of them haven't. A few from pre-Olwean times and everyone in Restored Olwe, as well as Olwean diplomats who have served abroad in colder countries with which we have a diplomatic relationship (The Vorindun, Imeriata, etc.)... that's maybe about 10% of Olweans at most.
