The Great Zeronian War [IC, PMT, Zero Beta, TG for entry]

Postby Stormwrath » Wed Dec 31, 2014 6:41 am

[[OOC: This is an RP taking place in the past in Zero's history and should not be considered as present-day events. Enjoy!]]

16 August 1725
Tidal City, Stormwrath

War. It has erupted. It wasn't much of a surprise, though. The people of Stormwrath knew that this was coming. Tensions between the humans and the anthros have escalated recently, in the forms of discrimination, jingoism, racism, and ultimately, supremacism. Humans thought of themselves as more superior than their anthro counterparts and vice versa. Fauns, hybrids of humans and anthros, have been often caught in the crossfire. Ever since the 1690s, despite their basic rights being granted, the other races, particularly humans, saw them as a scourge; some even calling for their extermination. The fauns reacted in protest and in terrorist attacks on Tervalian cities.

Altaro and Texurica have not been on very good terms because of this. Neither have the Altarians and the Elumbish Islands. Since the Elumbish and the Altarians hated each other, trade sanctions were put up whenever an issue with their respective minorities rises up. This has particularly put a strain on the Stormwrathians, who were drawn into the sanctions because they were the spawn of the Elumbish. But then, that was 300 years ago.

Passenger boats carrying humans were turned away from Altaro, and ships carrying anthros cannot enter Tervalia. Altaro in particular, would use its bigger gun diplomacy to force the human ports to open to their citizens while forcing human ships to divert their course away from the anthran continent. One particular incident, the sinking of the passenger ship Rosalita Clair, had earned the condemnation of various human countries, including Stormwrath. In response, a total trade embargo was imposed on the Tervalian countries, a move considered an act of war.

Tervalia Dome was filled with the members of Parliament that day, and Empress Sable was presiding over the assembly. She was the most powerful woman in the human world, holding sway over a great power in Zero. Her word is highly regarded, which would be the very thing Stormwrathians would regret later on. Prime Minister Jonathan Miose had wanted to stay out of this war himself, but was opposed by the Apiscii and Munisci. Right now, they were in the middle of an intense debate.

An Apiscius stood up and spoke, "Ladies and gentlemen of the assembly, should we stand by and watch as Altaro constantly harasses our neighbors to show that they are better than all of us?"

"It might sound silly, but it's the best way to deal with the conflict", replied Miose.

"Avoiding it is not our best option. In fact, we have been ignoring this issue for too long. Look, the Altarians have revoked their Treaty of Amity, which contains their trade pact and non-aggression pact with us. Also, the alliance had already been broken with them a year ago. Why bother sitting on the fence when many of our neighbors are standing up to their imperialist motives, especially when the Elumbish Islands collapsed?"

"Aren't we already standing up to them? The Merdeka City Address was certainly one of those-"

"That address did little to deescalate the tensions, which are now practically boiling over. In this case, words do not solve anything."

"But they sure can address our actions–"

"Which were next to nothing."

Miose was already rubbing his head in a perplexed emotion. "Alright, I need to know which members of Parliament approve of a declaration of war." More than 86% of the 720 members of Parliament have raised their hands. It was already clear that they do want Empress Sable to grant this request. He turned his head to look at Empress Sable, who was sitting in a chair on the balcony of the hall. She stood up and then declared to the assembly, "Very well then, may your decision not be regretful, members of the assembly. By the power vested in me as the Empress and Sovereign Monarch of Stormwrath, I declare that a state of war shall be in effect between the Empire of Stormwrath and the United Confederation of Altarian Nations. May we stand with our heads held high, in triumph or in disgrace. Ave Stormvrathia!"

The assembly raised their voices and chanted, "Ave Stormvrathia!" and then applauded of their decision. And so Stormwrath, along with the members of the Tervalian Coalition, sided with Texurica in war against Altaro, not realizing how big the impact will be on the world that they, their children, and their children's children, will live in.

Montalia is also readying for war, having declared war against Altaro a few hours after Stormwrath. The declaration could be just a coincidence, as Shivva also declared war around the same time as them; or that Montalia's president, William Nolan, had just heard the news and wanted the country to follow suit. Unlike their more prepared neighbors to the south, Montalia didn't have a pre-mobilization, and so had to resort to conscription to acquire the manpower needed to fight in the war.

The order went out that any Montalian male 18 years old and above will be serving the army in the conflict, as long as he shows his medical certificate. If he passes, he will be serving in the Montalian Armed Forces. Official drafting starts on the following day, August 17, and families are now divided whether the father would join the army or not. Probably the eldest sons would join in too, if they were above 18.

20 August 1725 AD, 24 Miyukaya 2134 AE

"Humans, humans, why Akai?"

Emperor Victoris was enraged. He pounded his fist on his table in anger before turning his chair around and rubbing his head in perplexity. "These fucking Tervalians!", the anthro remarked with a ferocious tone while looking out to Empire City from his palace window. "After everything our country has done for them and this is how they repay us?! Damn the humans! Must I always have to deal with these scum?"

His only assurance was that in Altaro's strength. After all, the United Confederation of Altarian Nations is the most powerful nation in Zero, and no human nation would dare rise up against her might. The War of 1402 with the Elumbish Islands certainly have proved that. But now, they have, and they seek to mass their armies against the Unifier's lands and vanquish Altaro, the shining light. They have dared to defy her absolute sway. Once again, Altaro was at war without declaring it.

He then summoned his Minister of War, Hara Fengtao, and his Minister of Homeland Defense, Roku Kurosawa. They bowed slightly in respect to the Emperor, who then asked, "Is the pre-mobilization finished?"

They both bowed slightly and replied, "Yes, your Highness." Hara, who was an Alsatian, added, "Let us show them the might of our nation, no matter how many lives it will cost or the lives that we will take." Alsatians are known to be much more warlike than their Altarian counterparts in the mainland. The reputation of Rikleskia still runs in them.

"Fengtao, I want a declaration of war written immediately. Bring it to me when you are finished, so I may sign it."

"Yes, your Majesty." And the two left his presence. He sat back down and contemplated on what to do about this Tervalian Coalition.

You have now crossed the line.

Leaders of the nations of Tervalia, you have now done it. We have constantly pleaded with you to settle down to talk through diplomatic means, and that you will remain neutral in this war; but alas you have chosen to side against us. This is our matter with Texurica, not yours, and yet you wish to side with the Pastor-King in this. You all behave like little children in this act. Well then, prepare for the blood that shall be on your own heads, humans. You will soon feel our wrath by the march of our armies. Your men will shiver in fear, for they shall meet Soku, the one you have decided to cling yourselves to. We will make you regret making that decision, and we will never forget what you have done this day.

22 August 1725

Upon hearing of Mizetri's entry into the war on the side of the Tervalian Coalition, Prime Minister Miose had realized that most of the great Tervalian powers are now allied against a common foe. The human race was now poised to war against the anthro superpower. Upon comparing statistics, it showed that the combined industrial, economic, and military output of the Tervalian Coalition was nearly similar to Altaro's output in those respective fields. Now he wanted a conference on how to coordinate their plans to fend off the planned Altarian air raids and ballistic missile attacks on the Tervalian mainland as well as prepare an invasion force to the heart of Altaro itself.

Invitations, encrypted in the dead language of Ermane, were sent to the other leaders of the Tervalian Coalition, which states the date and location for their secret conference meeting. It will fall on 1 September, in the city of Chkatarpur, Shivva. Some of Tervalia's top military officers are also invited to the meeting, because they were to follow from what has been decided at the meeting firsthand.

Meanwhile, in the Palmarian Mountains, the monsters that were roaming the wilderness suddenly migrated north and west. They have been drawn by the unusually high amount of negative emotion, which scientists at the time still haven't figured a solid hypothesis. The ideology of nationalism and race supremacism had given off a similar effect to the monsters' migration patterns, which are often always westward, where the large population centers are. Upon hearing this, guards were placed in Palmaria and in other central and eastern cities.

3 Simiskaya 2134 AE, 4 September 1725 AD
ICBM underground silo, Akihita Military Base, Akihita City, Altaro

The command center was currently filled with military personnel belonging to the Unified Defense Strategic Command. Each of them was in front of a computer, which had a holographic display that gives out the information. One of them was a goat anthro named Lee Hakisuburo, who was issuing commands on his computer. It displayed the available ICBMs in the silo, which are loaded with conventional warheads that can detonate a building or two.

"Hakisuburo-san, launch codes please", called out his companion in Ashiro, who was ready to deploy the missiles. Lee then typed in the required codes, along with the coordinates of the targets.

Another anthro was sitting in front of another part of the system, ready for confirmation. As the signal was given, he turned the key counterclockwise and opened the plastic lid covering the button. He then pressed it, and a video feed showed the launch, somewhere outside of the base.

"Yamada III ICBMs 4 through 7 are launching now."

Four ICBMs from the base began launching, targeted at certain coordinates, which are located in the cities of Matadling and Olario in Stormwrath; specifically in their shipyards, where satellite images have captured images of two new aircraft carriers about to be finished. Hopefully they can destroy the targets to slow down Stormwrath's capacity to replenish their ships.

Building D, ATD Factory Complex
Komoko City, Altaro

Complicated machinery that have been coated with mostly white filled most of the building. This is where the Yamada III ICBM delivery rockets were built. War is a dirty but profitable business, despite the Altarians' internal hatred for war. But because of how things turned out, Altaro built up its military strength in case something like the Great Zeronian War breaks out, which it did.

Shindo Kamatoru was a welder working at the complex. Currently he was finishing a weld on the Yamada's outer shell. It wasn't comfortable up there, having to be suspended on a harness to weld up there. Once he was done, the crane would lift the finished part to the next area so he could weld another one. It was a long process that was repeated again and again in Altaro's factories. But then again, it was his job.

A siren blared, signaling the beginning of lunch break. At this he got down from his post and removed his harness. He then went over to his bag, which was leaning next to the stack of steel beams. Inside was a packed lunch box wrapped around a handkerchief. After untying it, he opened the box, revealing a meal composed of tuna with lettuce, some tomato slices, and rice. It was just the way his wife had made it, for she knew that it was his favorite.

"Ittadekimasu", he said to himself before eating. A co-worker of his sat beside him and said, "Shin, the Alonia Bluebirds have beaten the Empire City Mockingjays just this morning." This was referring to the basketball playoffs that were going on in Altaro at the time.

Shindo raised an eyebrow at this. "Oh?"

"Yeah, it was close, 105 to 100. Kyou got a buzzer beater, in which the crowds got wild, dude."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"What's the game tonight?"

"Komoko City versus Insikia City."

"Cool. Wanna go to the game after work?"

"Sure, if you have tickets."

"That is why you're going to buy them for the both of us."

"Hey, that's not fair."

"Yes it is. I've been buying for the both of us for a while now, so it's your turn."

"Fine, but that will only be for tonight's game."

"Now that's not fair." And the two laughed.

4 Simiskaya 2134 AE, 5 September 1725 AD
Altarian Parliament House, Empire City, Altaro

"All rise, for His Imperial Majesty, the Lord of Empire City, and the 97th Emperor of Altaro, Victoris Tatsuo Katchmar."

The assembly rose to this announcement of the Emperor's arrival, and the large wooden doors of the Hall of Assembly opened. In came Victoris, with the Imperial Guardsmen escorting him to his seat, which was on a balcony behind the podium overlooking the rest of the hall. Victoris sat down, and everyone else followed in unison.

Prime Minister Masaru Yamomoto stood at the podium and began, "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of the assembly. You all have recently heard the news, and have been interviewed by the press several times. Mizetri has declared war against Altaro."

A roar can be heard among the members of Parliament, most of them expressing their outrage against the announcement. Mizetri? The Mizetrians hated the anthros more than the Elumbish did. Plus, their chancellor demanded the utter extermination of the anthran race in the name of humanity. What couldn't get any worse than a fascist country entering on the side of the humans?

A politician stood up and said, "Prime Minister, we must act swiftly. Their ideology could quickly spread to the rest of the Tervalian Coalition, especially to Texurica. We implore you to encircle them in a naval blockade to cut them off from their colonies in Illumine and eastern Tervalia."

"And what if the Tervalians respond?", asked the Prime Minister.

"They have no chance against the might of the Imperial Altarian Navy, our victory will be assured."

"True, but note that Montalia maintains air bases in Milasere and several other places along their northern coast."

"Our aircraft carriers can easily fend off the threat of land based aerial attacks. Rest assured, Montalians aren't Stormwrathians."

Another Parliament member stood up and added, "We should also prepare our forces in case these humans decide to invade us during winter. Also, economic sanctions should cripple them quickly."

"I think they would have learned that already from the Elumbish", countered the Prime Minister.

After contemplating the discussion, Victoris rose from his chair and then said, "Are there any more objections to the proposal?"

After five seconds of silence, he then continued, "Since there are no questions, we shall move to the voting. Those in favor of a naval blockade and economic sanctions against Mizetri, please raise your hand." The majority did so.

"Well, the assembly has decided. A naval blockade and economic sanctions shall be enforced on Mizetri. They shall be on their own now."

4 September 1725
10th Stormwrath Imperial Fleet
Somewhere in the Great Zeronian Ocean

The 10th Fleet stood as the guardian to the western half of Stormwrath, protecting the nation from any attack seeking to cross into Stormwrathian airspace. Its captal ships consisted of the aircraft carriers ISNV Mercadia and ISNV Asicia, and the battleships ISNV Amnis Sereno and ISNV Golden Valley. Notable warships include the destroyer ISNV Relapse and the cruiser ISNV Rose Crescent. On board the Relapse, radar has picked up four ICBMs heading southwards. Sensing that it may be heading for a target located in Stormwrath, they immediately acted.

"Warning, four ICBMs en route southwards."

"What is its current location?"

"Bearing, 9 degrees west of north."

A weapons operator then turned a knob, and then the direction of the guided interceptor was adjusted to that direction. Once the target is locked, he turned over the lid covering the button and said, "Launching interceptor now."

"Roger that."

A guided missile was launched from the destroyer, and it thrusted upwards to meet and collide with the ICBM in mid air. It took a few seconds for the missile to reach the target. The crew watched on through their video feed.

"Standing by."

The interceptor had successfully targeted the ICBM, stopping it from reaching its supposed target. But since there were three more missiles, three other destroyers launched their interceptors to take down the rest.

Robert Fidelus, Pastor-King of Texurica, was pleased that his fellow Tervalian leaders have joined his side against the Altarian menace. Fresh from the multinational meeting of the Tervalian heads of state in Shivva, he has just declared in a press conference, "We cannot tell you the details of what was discussed in the meeting. However, I can boldly proclaim that God will give us victory over the pagan aggressors, and a new era of peace shall fill the earth."

The Order of St. Dmitri, which served as the armed forces of Texurica and of the Texar Universal Church, boasted the largest amount of personnel within the Tervalian Coalition, with over 5 million voluntary active troops, and 8 million in reserve. Conscription was instituted by the Council to hopefully boost their numbers further. Their goal was set at 10 million active troops, with another 20 million in reserve. Any Texurican male from 18 to 54 years of age that can fire a gun was drafted into the armed forces. Requests were sent to nearby Stormwrath for high-ranking military officers to tutor and train them in the harshest conditions battle could ever give them, for they knew their neighbors to the north have been bred for war.

Chancellor Awerd steps out of his Palace and on to a podium looking down on a crowd of Party Members about 100,000 strong--all of the Party is here for this.
"The furry is attempting to defeat us. They are wanting to show power over us. They are a menace attempting to gnaw on our nation like fleas on a dead carcass. The thing is though, " he takes a second break for a sip of water then continues, "WE ARE NOT DEAD. WE ARE NOT A CARCASS. WE SHALL PREVAIL. To stop them from gnawing from within we are now going to place all furries here in interment camps. Please report your local furry for immediate internment." The crowd cheers.

As Awerd walks into his Palace again he is greeted by his party officials. They tell him good job. His Chief Minister of War, Awald Sward, tells him, "Sir what was the purpose of that?"
Awerd replies, "Awald, it was a statement. Not to our people--they already thought all of that after all. It was a statement to Altaro."
"I see. You did a fine job indeed then." comments Awald.

I go by Illumine in non-RP situations--though some of my region mates seem to prefer war mongerer at times. Both Invictus and Illumin are correct for identifying those from Illuminination. Illuminian refers to a person from the whole of Illumine and not just Illuminination.

10th Stormwrath Imperial Fleet
Somewhere in the Great Zeronian Ocean

All four ICBMs have been successfully intercepted by that time, in which the crew of the Relapse sighed in relief. They have indeed done their job in preventing their first missile attacks in the entirety of the war. However, they knew that it wouldn't be over just yet. Altaro is probably, no, they are grinding out more and more ICBMs to target Stormwrathian industrial centers. They will have to periodically dock some time, once the destroyers have ran out of interceptors to fire. That would put the Stormwrathian cities at risk, should they not be at sea. Fortunately, land interceptors have been placed all over the country.

For now, the captain of the Relapse can sip his coffee without having to worry for now.

26 September 1725
Providence Internment Camp
43 kilometers northwest of Port Minosa

Another train has arrived at the complex. Anthros disembarked from the train cars and formed a line that goes into the inside of the camp, a testament to Stormwrath's suspicion of its anthro minority. They could be possibly handing out information to the Altarian government, and so they were deported here. It was such a sight. There were anthro kids that held on to their father's hands along the line. There were old anthro women who seem too weak to even stand. Guards in the camp were told to provide them with the necessary food and comfort, as well as help whenever one member of the camp becomes injured or helpless; however, the latter wasn't observed. An old anthro woman collapsed on the ground, and the guards just left her there.

Rows of buildings that resembled three story apartments dotted the camp, and as much as twenty people occupy a single room. Food in the camp was composed of rice chowder with mushrooms, served with tea. After that, adults were forced to work in the nearby redstone and Palmarium mines, while the kids stayed behind and played with other kids. At least the camp was being generous to the children. Anyone who would attempt to escape was fired upon by guards stationed in the towers. So far, four escapees have been shot.

35 Simiskaya 2134 AE, 6 October 1725 AD
379 kilometers off the coast of Montalia

Now it was set in motion. The 12th Altarian Imperial Fleet was dispatched at the explicit request of the Altarian government to impose a naval blockade on Mizetri. Obviously, the news of the internment of its anthro minority angered Victoris. The battleship ANV Fukushū, along with its sister ships ANV Kyōhaku and ANV Yokushi-ryoku, and the aircraft carriers ANV Inazuma and ANV Fūbi, were some of the mightiest warships of the Empire. Essentially, they were the symbol of Altaro's far reaching power and influence in Zero. A symbol that a bunch of human nations decided to go up against.

Currently they are outside the reach of Montalian radar, but it could be possible for the enemy to reach out to their location. Escort destroyers and frigates surrounded the blockade, and anti-air vessels were in turn escorting them, to prevent any aerial attack from successfully stopping them. They were confident that the war was theirs.

Milasere Air Base
Milasere, Montalia

Two MF-30 fighters belonging to the Montalia Air Force took off from the runway to begin their reconnaissance mission over the Isaka Sea. This was part of their routine, checking for any threats to Montalian territorial sovereignty. It was at around 10:37 AM that the fighters went far out to sea, which took an hour to reach the 400 kilometer mark. So far, the sector was clear, so they were told to head back to base. The fighters turned around and flew back, following the course given to them.

It was on this return trip that they spotted a fleet of ships heading eastward to somewhere. Sensing trouble, they checked the signatures given off by the radar, which came back with shocking responses. It was the Altarian fleet. Since they didn't have time to engage, they just flew overhead and then returned to base. The reports were given, which then prompted a response from the Montalian Armed Forces. This was the moment of confrontation.

Naval vessels flying under Montalia's flag were dispatched by the navy to intercept the enemy fleet. Planes on land were scrambled to fly towards the Altarians and take the enemy ships down. Surely the rest of the Tervalian Coalition would also react, especially its nearest neighbors Shivva and Mizetri.

Somewhere off the coast of Northern Montalia

And so it was.

The radar on the Fukushū suddenly picked up a squadron of Montalian MF-30s closing in on the fleet's position. It seemed to appear that these Montalians were going to respond with force after all. We can conclude that the navy has underestimated them. However, the anthros weren't going to let this slide. Mizetri should be blockaded now, and they are getting in the way of success. Several enemy fighter jets roared in the skies above, seeking to sink the Altarian ships. And so were the first fires shot within the entirety of the war.

Immediately, the Captain of the battleship ordered the crew members to their stations, and they all went to work. It was a tense moment. How far are the humans willing to achieve victory, especially against the might of the battled hardened fleet of the United Confederation of Altarian Nations?

The Fukushū fired its main railguns at the enemy planes, hoping to shoot some of them down. Little clouds of black smoke appeared in the sky. On the aircraft carriers of the fleet, Altaro's AS-2C fighter jets, the pride of the Altarian air forces, launched from the decks, taking off and swiftly turning their noses upwards, while the jets took them there in blinding speed. Now the dogfights were to begin for the control of the heavens. Altarian fighters began to chase the Montalian aircraft, aiming their missiles at them.

"Mayday mayday, Alpha Sierra 2 Charlies on our tail, requesting reinforcements."

"Roger that, reinforcements arriving in thirty minutes. Just hold on."

Now the ferocious dogfight was to begin. The Montalians maneuvered their aircraft and attempted to shake the Altarian fighter jets off their tail. A few climbed upwards and went into a dive. From there, they fired missiles from their wings and took out a few planes still on the Altarian carriers. At the same time, they were losing jets to enemy missile fire.
