Port of Pemecutan, (Pelabuhan Pemecutan), is the main and only seaport in Pemecutan where all the trades (export and import) going on. Begin as small fishing port during its early years, the port extremely changing and being modernized after the independence. Several facilities where added and/or modernized to cater the modern ship especially for cargo and container. The port includes facilities that goes along the shoreline of northern Pecut Island and Tulup Island through 4 villages. The port is currently manage by Pemecutan Port Authority (Otoritas Pelabuhan Pemecutan).

The Port located in the northern shoreline of Pecut Island and Tulup Island, the two largest islands in Kingdom of Pemecutan. Port of Pemecutan open up to Pecut Sea in northern Pecut Island and Kalong Straight in northern Tulup Island which then goes to the open ocean. The district that combine the Port of Pemecutan are Puri Village, Alangkadjeng Village (both in Pecut Island), Titih Village and Wangaya Village (both in Tulup Island.

HISTORY

Pemecutan was originally a small town in the northeastern part of Pecut Island. As an island country, a port was seems to be a demanding facility. Not just to provide a save haven for Pemecutan fishermans but also to trade goods with other neighbouring nations. The port facility was first open in the late 16th Century which combine both passenger and freight terminal and all lies in Puri Village, along Meregan Beach in Pecut Island. The port was notably for its fish products, woodcarving and jewelry while most of the Kingdom foodstuff was being imported from abroad.

After meeting with Western Countries, changes was made to the port. The area was being enlarge by opening up another terminal in Alangkadjeng Village, just north of Puri Village, during the 19th Century. Pemecutan relation with British at that time makes the port a stopping point for vessels that coming from India or Singapore to Australia or vice versa. It was noted as the busiest era for the port. This resulting in enlargement of the current terminal and also the construction of a new terminal in Tulup Island.

The invention of larger vessels in the 20th Century had crippled the economy of the country which heavily dependent on the port at that time. Less and less vessel stopped in the port because of their larger fuel capacity. After the independence, the port management was transfered to Pemecutan Port Authority which commenced in 1981 (before that it was under the authority of Department of Transportation). The Authority manage to stabilize the revenue of the port in time with the rehabilitation and modernization of the port facilities.The reorganization was started in 1989. The Meregan Beach Terminal was changes into passenger and cruise terminal where passenger ship, cruise ship and yacht could harboring in the terminal. In 1993, Alangkadjeng Terminal was being enlarge in order to support marine transhipment equipment which ease the liquid transportation in the Kingdom. A new refinery and power station was also built near the terminal area.

Starting 2000, a new facility was added to Titih Terminal and Wangaya Terminal. Both terminal was specialized in bulk cargo and container. A modern docking system and warehouse enlargement makes both terminal twice larger than before. In 2010, Pemecutan Port Authority opened a marina area in southern edge of Meregan Beach Terminal which will separate yacht and smaller ship with the more larger passenger and cruise ship. The Port Authority also acquired Kalong Transfer Terminal. It is a special terminal which connect passenger from downtown area to the Pemecutan-Kalong International Airport which located in the island.

Today, the port has 5 terminals with the capacity of over 20 million tonnes of cargo and around 2 million TEU. The port also maintain to serve more than 2 million passenger annually.

FACILITY

Until this day, Port of Pemecutan operated 5 terminals, Meregan Beach Terminal (in Puri Village), Alangkadjeng Terminal, Titih Container Terminal, Wangaya Freight Terminal and Kalong Transfer Terminal. The terminals located in northern part of the Kingdom along the shoreline of Pecut Island, Tulup Island and Kalong Island.

Meregan Beach Terminal

It was the first facility in the Port of Pemecutan. Located in Meregan Beach, Puri Village, it's position is adjacent to the open sea. It was originally cater both freight and passenger. During the 19th Century the terminal area was enlarge to cater more vessels coming to the port. Today, it is specialize for Passenger and Cruise ships. It also has a Marina for yacht and other smaller ship. The facility include parking area, restaurant, bar, gift shop, fresh market and hotel.

Alangkadjeng Terminal

Located in Alangkadjeng Village, Alangkadjeng Terminal was the second port facility that built for the Port of Pemecutan. It is north of Meregan Beach Terminal. It was originally cater general cargo, including foodstuff, timber, precious metal (gold and silver), etc. But after the enlargement of the nothern point, the terminal able to cater liquid and chemical stuff, includes oil, gas, and chemical acid. It also equip with refinery and power station among others.

Titih Container Terminal

Located in Titih Village on the northern shore of Tulup Island, it is the first terminal that opened outside Pecut Island. It size was enlarge during the 20th Century and specialize to cater container cargo. Annually it could accept around 2 million TEU. The facility includes, parking area, container warehouse and several piers.

Wangaya Freight Terminal

Located in Wangaya Village, just east of Titih Terminal, Wangaya Freight Terminal is specialized in cater general cargo, including bulk cargo. It has a large warehouse area and modern docking system that could cater 75% of the Port annual cargo (while the rest is maintain by Alangkadjeng Terminal).

Kalong Transfer Terminal

It was previously operated by Kalong Airport Authority before it was transferred to Pemecutan Port Authority in 2011 and become the new part of Port of Pemecutan terminal system. Kalong Transfer Terminal located in southern shore of Kalong Island, an island north of Tulup Island, which is the location of Pemecutan-Kalong International Airport. This terminal is specialized for passenger that going in and out of the Airport.

GippsTrans runs various public transport services throughout the world, through Trains, Planes, Buses and Ships. We are a not for profit organisation funded by the Tawakin Council dedicated to our vision to create a top class travel system throughout the world.
