Multi-Party Elections In Korena - December 2014

Vote and let your voice be heard today!

Image

Intro: In recent times, Korena has reformed its constitution to replace its two-party system with a multi-party system. For the first time in recorded Korenian history, all of the one hundred seats in the Congress of the Republic of Korena are up for election. A huge voter turnout is expected across Korena for this particular election. Instead of the two usual dominant political parties, however, it will be multiple different political parties that will be striving to earn the highest number of sits in congress. Do you think you have what it takes to lead a political party to success? That's right, you can create your own political party, and you'll be competing with others' parties for seats in congress!

Make your own political party for Korena today!
Political Party Creation Form:
Banner: (a banner for your political party - optional)
Name of the Political Party: (please check the list below to see if the name is already taken - and keep it reasonable!)
Ideology: (please explain and elaborate on your party's ideological beliefs: liberal, conservative, socialist, communist, etc.)
Target Voters: (age? gender? sexuality? you can be as vague or specific as you'd like)
Main Issues: (focus on two to three different issues like abortion, social welfare, or anything else you can come up with, and present your stance)
Party Leader: (name, and quick description)

Additional Info:
- There will be occasional news reports regarding different political, social, and economic issues in Korena. It is your responsibility to post updates regarding your political party's stance on the issue. <- makes difference in popularity
- You can also post campaign posters or make speeches, after you create your political party. <- also increases popularity
- The top three parties that win most seats (out of 100) will have greater advantages in the next election.
- Election results will be posted after 2-3 weeks!

Name of the Political Party: Civil Liberties Party

Ideology: the CLP is a pragmatic centrist political party which aims for greater personal, economic, and political freedoms for everyone. The party is centrist with some center-left leanings.
Here's a quick breakdown of their ideological pregnancies

Social Liberalism
Economic Liberalism
Ordoliberalism
Pragmatism
Minority Rights

Target Voters: the party does aim at any one group although Minority groups are targeted to a higher degree but for the most part the party aims to pick up independent and center of the road voters as well as centrist member of the former main parties.

Main Issues:
Economy: Supports a strong private sector and wishes to cut the existing corporate tax by 15% while change the existing tax code which would act as a progressive tax but for businesses with large corporations paying maximum taxes and with new start ups paying no taxes for 3 years. It would also have a provision which created a performance system in which businesses who pass critical worker saftey and treatment reviews as well as passing above average during regular business exams will experiance a deduction in its tax burden while companies who fail pay more in taxes. We also want to simply one ability to start up businesses and streamline the process while also improving overall worker conditions and standards.

Gay Marriage: The party allows its members to choose their stance on this issue with party policy saying that if Gay Marriage has the popular support of 55% of the population it will shift to an official pro-gay marriage party (assuming that homosexual marriage is not legal at this time)

Welfare: The party supports a streamlined and well effective welfare system that crests employees and government dependents. While recognizing that the vast najority of welfare recipients are good honest people the systems needs to shift so that we can creat succesful employees by mandating ether a set number of volunteers hours, school classes, or job training to receive welfare. This however would not bleed off into disability claims and so forth.

Military: Supports a small well trained and well funded volunteer army with diplomatic treaties signed to help Korena protect itself from foreign aggressors.

Immigration: supports the processing of currently undocumented immigrants within the nation unless they have violent criminal records within the nation or within there nation of origin. If someone's nation of origin is known to have poor civil and human rights then we should negotiate his deportation to a secondary nation willing to accept the deporte. Legal immigration should be streamlined and preferential to skilled immigrants and we should expand on our work visa programs. We need to become a nation of equals not a nation of have's and have not's amd quality treatment of immigrants from around the world.

Education: the education system should be geared towards creating competent and hardworking adults with the ability to succeed in basic working conditions. More teaching of practical computing and social skills as well as improved Physical education standards and a focus on positive teacher student relationships. We support a 8% hike in K-12 education and further increases in warrented in later budgets.

Crime: Crime is an issue of the impoverished or at least most other time it is. Crime can be effectively fought through means of greater targeted economic development in certain area through government incentives, proper and well rounded education, increased ability to find work in low income areas, and general wage increases (set to match inflation rates for basic living wage) all of which are known and credible ways to combat poverty and this combat crime. We might not stamp it all out but will be better off if we try.
Religion: Religion is a personal matter and one may wear religious symbols or religious wears in public regardless of faith as one has the bodily right to do so. But the government should not involve itself with the issues of religion and dogma with a clear separation of church and state with a secular government put in place so that the government may operate impartially towards people of faith.

Party Leader: Nathan Marxsen: at the age of 37 Marxsen is a former Navy Midshipmen who after serving in the military five into politics making a splash as the mayor of a small town in Central Korena which under his leadership saw a sharp uptick in both the cities economy and population growth as well as a drop in crime rates. A few years later he ran for public office this time winning a seat in the National Legislature for his respective district. Marksmen was a strong supporter of the multi-party reform and when said reform was made he immediately quite his party and with a few other members of the legislature from both parties founded the CLP with intent to give the public who usually felt alienated from the typical left-right political debate a chance to have a party soeak for them.

A Nationwide Debate on Euthanasia!

Image

"My body, my choice," says Matthew T. Lee, a 31 year old male living in Korena City, as he wheels off his 68 year old terminally-ill mother into one of the several hospitals in the city that are known for giving euthanasia injections. The Republic of Korena has yet to take action in order to strictly regulate euthanasia, but recent polls suggest that the nation is very divided over the issue.

A large 59% out of the 18-24 year old population in Korena has shown support for the use of the lethal drug as a method of assisted suicide, whereas a meager 17% of the 70+ age group has shown support for euthanasia. The divisive issue is expected to be very influential as Korena heads into its December elections. Political parties such as the Secular-Social Democratic Party and Worker's Party of Korena have already expressed support for assisted suicide and legalization of euthanasia, respectively...

OOC: see as I'be been added to the party list I'll make a quick response.

From: Nathan Marxsen
To: Public
Topic: Euthanasia
Location: CLP Party Headquarters

"Well we definetly see the issue at hand however this is an issue that has just come out onto the political scene so this subject was not covered by the party when it was founded and currently is being talked about. We are a party that allows a lot of free thought within our ranks and have also prided ourselves on supporting what the masses want not what our ideology demands. Currently the issue is left up to individual members and we are reviewing the topic and forming policy around it. Currently we are supportive of a person wish to death in the face of painful terminal illness. We're also looking into Vincent agreements or agreements made prior to the incident where we can have a clear indication that that anyone person wants and medically induced suicide. This is however as we know all know a touch subject and until we get some more numbers back will be holding off on making this an official part of our platform and allow our members to choose how they feel on that issue."

"Emily, have you registered to vote yet?"
"Nope, I'm not planning on voting."
"Why?"
"Too many parties out there, you know? With way too complicated names. I'm not gonna waste my time voting for a party that I've never heard of."
"Are you going to vote, Sarah?"
"I am. I already have a choice in mind."
"Really?"
"Yeah. This new party called Civil Liberties Party. They've got a decent, and pretty detailed, platform. I think it's always the safest to go with the centrists. I'm voting for Nathan Marxsen unless other parties prove themselves as better alternatives."

(OOC Note: Remember, active and responsive parties will always tend to gain more support!)

Campaign Progress

The CLP has reved up its campaign at a national scale with hundreds of volunteers around the nation working day and night to forge support for the CLP and its platforms. In major cities volunteers are putting up campaign posters which read "We're policy makers not game players" and "We campaign for you not for ideologies" and with flyers being handed out to people in the population centers of almost every voting district (excluding the four in which no CLP candidates are running in) and in those same towns Candidates for the National Legislature are holding Q&A town hall meets with volunteers going to smaller communities holding Q&A secessions for people who should otherwise not be able to attend the major ones.

A heavy social media campaign has been taken on as well with the party buying out advertisement spots on webpages and by spreading their message via social media accounts. As far as political visuals go logos are kept simple from the blue check mark to the Newer Blue and Yellow Civil Liberties Party banner which is best described as modest but modern. Currently Nathan Marxsen is scheduled a party Q&A in a large convention hall in the capital this weekend.

Supporters of WPK rally on streets, demonstrating for more strict policies on the big corporations who has gone beyond the law. The people demand for corporation powers to be limited, and that the government should lean towards a market socialist system, to regulate the power of the private sector.

Campaign Progress

Volunteers have taken to major area of poverty in the nation. Along with doing door to door personal campaigning were volunteers talk to people within the community but also with community leaders to help figure out how to combat the issues of poverty and crime in the area. After the party leader Nathan Marxsen met with several local leaders of some of the more economicly destitute communities in the nation and has forged a new policy to help in such areas.

Upon meeting with several public leaders this weekend we've come up with a policy to help alleviate the effects of poverty, ill-education, and crime. Upon talking with these men and women we've devised plans which will give tax incentives to businesses that will start up in economicly underdeveloped locations and that will provide fair treatment and wages to its employees. We will also work to improve education for everyone which will have a test effect in these areas to help and improve the situation for the young men and women in this community. We also need to work with the youth, give them an education, give them the tools to get a job, and give them fewer reasons to partake in criminal activity. We as a nation need to work together to help one another out, we are not in this alone we are as a nation also a community. Amd I will work as will my party to tackle these issues and to fight for the betterment of all people in this great national community we have

"This is KNT breaking news!"
"Thousands of protestors nationwide have filled the streets of various Korenan cities! Reports tell us that the nationwide anti-gay marriage protest was organized through social media the day before. Police are on standby at this time just in case, but violence is not expected. The major of Korena City has called for the protestors to be civil as they make their homophobic remarks be heard in the streets..."
"Let's listen to what one of the protestors had to say, earlier this afternoon."
"I think that homosexuality is getting out of hand in our society. Korena needs to get its morals together, or else our society is going to be caught up in moral decadence like the rest of the world!" says Mr. Kim, one of the protestors.
"This protest follows a pro-gay marriage awareness campaign that happened just last week. As Korena heads into its election season, gay marriage is expected to be a hot topic for many voters. This has been Joe Kim, reporting from Korena City."

"Pah! Hogwash!" National Beer Party member Toomas Leito expresses his distaste at the protests. "They base their nonsense on nothing but superstition and expect Korenan public to believe that? I think this sham of a protest demands a ridiculing."

"The National Beer Party is willing to organize a tongue-in-cheek counter-protest with other pro-gay organizations and political parties", proposes party chairman Karma Kalakotkas. "Gay marriage is a matter of social equality and individual freedoms."
