Hamilton International II

The Electrum Lawn Tennis Association once again welcomes tennis players of the world to the second version of the he Association of Tennis Professionals has decided to move the event to Electrum. After the first successful tournament, in which Electrum was called on by the ATP to act as a fill in host for Nyucia, this is now the second edition of the tournament (renamed from the Electrum International, but changed to highlight Hamilton), and will appear yearly right before the World Tennis Finals, in a place yet to be determined.

The event will be scheduled in the clay courts of the Hamilton Tennis Club, approximately two hours north of Centralis by plane. Hamilton is a hot and windy place, making it very tough for players to do well. Temperatures are regularly in the high thirties Celsius, and sometimes dipping to above 40. This tournament is a Tier 1 Event.

RP
The RP ranks will be graded from 1-5, then multiplied by an unknown factor, but it is extremely generous. Ranks are cumulative, and will be directly added onto ranking. The cutoff will be 5pm Melbourne time unless otherwise advised. If you need to know when Melbourne's time is, click here. Doubles rankings works in the same way as singles, but they have a different multiplication factor.

The bottom four qualifiers will be placed in a super group, and will play a round robin which will be scorinated all in one go at the cutoff. The top three qualify, the third placer being the lucky loser, replacing the Itanpavia entrant.

Walamzia Post
Live from the Hamilton International Cup

Entry 1: Impossible is Nothing

All 3 Walamzian tennis singles players received their draws today... and all of them received top 20 seeds. However, the biggest surprise was that the Zanier twins received the #1 seeded doubles team in their group. Our tennis insider James Pearcy caught up with our 5 tennis representatives for a chat.

JP: So, describe the experience so far.
W. Zainer: The competition is immense, and we are especially looking forward to facing the #1 seeded team. We just spoke to them about an hour ago... obviously, they didn't share too much, but they gave us some good advice for our first trip away from home. We'll hopefully have an edge with us being twins, which gives us that twin telepathy connection gizmo going for us.
Tomlinson: Yeah... just got here, and the weather's nice. Hopefully I can win a set against my seeded opponent, but my attention is squarely on my first matchup. I've been watching some tape, figuring out his weaknesses, and preparing myself mentally for the biggest tennis crowd I've ever seen.
Waltrip: *snickers* Well, let's just say my opponent won't know what hit 'im.
Miller: Everyone's counting us out, but we know that we will do our nation proud this week!

Unfortunately, due to printing issues, we must continue the chat next time. All Walamzian matches will be shown live on WalSport, and continuing coverage of the tournament will be on WalPost.com and WalSport.com.

The Hamilton International: A Blog
by Marina Hanegan

I knew this day would come. I think, on some level, I've always known. Laura was always so good at tennis, even when we were little. She was always destined to go to the very top of the sport.

She came to see me yesterday, just before she flew out. She said she was nervous, that she'd never been to anything like this before, and she didn't know how far she'd get. I told her to stop being so daft, that she'd be brilliant, and hey, even if she did lose, she's still the first woman in Neyosese history to make it to an international tennis tournament. That's got to count for something, right?

The taxi's late. It's a good job I ordered it for three hours before the plane leaves, or else I'd never make the flight. I can't wait to get out there and cheer on my best friend. She's going to kill it.

I heard the Neyosese doubles team made it past qualification already. That's a first - we're not exactly known for our sporting excellence. But hey, I'm not complaining!

Oh, the taxi's here. I'd best sign off now and go to the airport. I'll post again tomorrow when I get to my hotel.
Demonyms: Neyoese (noun, sing. and plu.); Neyosese (adj.)

Manchardas and Oxnein are my puppet nations OOC. IC, there is no greater link between the three than there is between the UK, Russia and Ethiopia IRL, so please don't mention anything about puppetry in an IC thread.

Hrok Noki: New Tennis Prospect!

People in Val Halla always knew names like Joric Novikov and Sven Anders. two of Val hall's biggest sporting names, both in the same bracket. But Hrok Noki was no-one. That was until the most recent Val Hallan National Tennis Championship. Noki fought through tough competition to reach the final, where he dramatically defeated Sven Anders 7-6 in the final game.

Also worthy of mention is Astrid cambar, Val Halla's most successful tennis player internationally, after reaching the third round of the Cenian Open. She will hope to do well this time out as well, despite being placed in a group with world number 4 Mia Cassington.

Elejamians arrive at Hamilton - 9th December 2014
Last night the Elejamian hopefuls arrived in Electrum for the Hamilton International. Despite Juan Aldia and Alan Bukowski's no-show at the tournament, which has raised a few eyebrows, fans are confident that Laura Meyer, Javier Pasante, Ethan Stokes and Christian Lawrence - along with Jorge Garcia and his wife Pauline "Paul" Dresdner - will qualify for the main tournament. We caught up with García who took some time out of training to talk to us:

ESC: So, Jorge, are you looking forward to this?
JG: Sí, I am. So is Paul.
ESC: Are you feeling nervous?
JG: A little pre-match jitters, but it's nothing I should be worried about.
ESC: Are you hoping for any improvements over what happened in Ceni?
JG: Yes. Plenty.
ESC: One last question - Is there a secret to yours and Paul's training?
JG: Not really, just practice and more practice.
ESC: Thank you for your time.
JG: Gracias.

The first matches will begin on Thursday.

The most dominant male tennis player in the Archipelago, John Galt advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2030 Cenian Open. He had a 7 match winning streak in his first International Tennis tournament of 2030. He also won the 2030 Joppa Open, beating Yelena Kazakova in 5 sets.

The runner-up in the 2027 Miss Andromeda Pageant, Margarita Cho was already well-known when she made the semifinals of the Joppa Open last May. Cho lost in straight sets to John Galt. Cho, the 2029 Andromeda collegiate national champion, is about to finish her first full professional season.

Age: 22
Residence: Andromeda City
Height: 5’9”
Andromeda Doubles Rank: #1 w/Yelena Kazakova
WTA Doubles Rank: #6 w/Yelena Kazakova

The eldest son of the Governor of Todd’s Cove, Louis Rich III, with doubles partner Yelena Kazakova, made the semifinals of the Cenian Open, their first international tournament, last November. Rich has decided to focus exclusively on doubles competition after the Cenian Open.

Name: Bryce Lord
Age: 22
Residence: Nassau
Height: 6’4”
Andromeda Doubles Rank: #2 w/Kelly Cicero

The 2027 collegiate National Champion, Bryce Lord, with doubles partner Violet Green, made the semi-finals of the last two National Championships in Andromeda City. Lord and Green were among the top four doubles teams from the Allied States. Lord decided to focus on doubles after the 2030 Cenian Open.

The Qocaekian Broadcasting Network (QBN) with the news

Postby The Qocaekian Isles » Tue Dec 09, 2014 4:03 pm

Date: 10/12/2014
Reporter: John Kruse
Location: Electrum, honorable host country of the Hamilton International II Tennis Competition.

Well, it's this time of the year again isn't it folks. I'm John Kruse, and here are some QBN exclusive news from the hottest tennis showdown-The Hamilton International II. As you probably have guessed, it's pretty hot here. (*points at a palm tree*) Really cool indeed, you don't see a lot of these babies right before Christmas don't you? I mean surely us Qocaekian can just go to our The Qocaekian Banana Islands for vacation, but these stuff you don’t see a lot (*points at people kicking butts*). Ok let’s get back to the tournament here. You can actually see our visual rooster here: (*TV scene switches to the rooster, John keeps talking*)
Singles Tournament:
1. Shanï Komaçia
2. Natalia Boruc
3. Vladimir Henri
4. Emma Rehnquistianson
Doubles Tournament:
1. Emma Rehnquistianson/ Chris D'myabá
2. Katia Katrina/ Jôel Maetins
As the Qocaekian tennis fans may know, this is our first time competing in any actual sporting tournament! How exciting! We have the top players from our domestic tournaments playing for our beloved country. Shanï Komaçia, a 27 year old young man playing at his prime. He came from the city Yohaennésburg of Dorba Isle, known for its basket weaving industry and a strong Football team. Shanï’s father was actually a striker for Dorba FC. Kaz Komaçia, the beloved football player, have scored 123 goals in his 182 games for the team. Shanï started tennis when he was seven years old, although he also had been trained in the Dorba FC youth academy for 3 years as well. He finished third in the Qocaekian Domestic cup, therefore qualifying for the national team. Natalia Boruc, a very, very talented 17-year-old girl from the capital city Taari-Ranokia. She started tennis at eight. At the age of twelve, she came in third in the national U-15 competition, which shocked the tennis community. She won a precious silver in the National Tournament and received a celebrated ticket to this Hamilton International. Vladimir Henri, oh god, the legend is about to strike again. At the age of 48, this man of steel still plays like a god. He came from the small island village of Peiak, and showed his talent in tennis when he moved to Koschtakia with his mother at the age of 11. He retired 4 years ago as the legend, but picked up his racquet again when he learned about the Hamilton International. He shocked the nation by winning the national cup, defeating Natalia Boruc 4-2 in the final, and here he is at Electrum. (* switches the camera back to John*) well time is running out, I am sorry guys but that will be it for today. Next time, don’t forget to turn on the TV and learn about more athletes and an exclusive interview with head coach Yun Zhang. I’m John Kruse, and this is QBN. See y’all next time!

Here again!
Its time for tennis[Chorus]
Sacrificing my time in Venice
My opponents are no match
Won't even leave with a scratch

I'm gonna fight [Chorus]
The tennis ball i'll strike
Beat them in three sets
You just bet

Now make my day [Chorus]
Smoothness on court like a poet
Need not watch the next match
For I give no rematch

Its time for tennis [3x Chorus]

Walamzia Post
Live from the Hamilton Cup

Impossible is Nothing ctd.

Here is the rest of the chat between the 5 Walamzians competing in the tournament.

JP: So, I assume all five of you are of very esteemed origin. What can you tell me about life back home?
Miller: I live In Fleetwood, home of the mighty Fleetwood AFC, your Globe Cup participants. [The Zainer twins groan in disapproval.] My family has been going through some hard times right now, so I don't really want to expound on that. I'm not even sure if they'll be resolved when I get home, but this is an escape for me so I can fulfill my dream.
JP: And what is that dream?
Miller: To be the #1 player in the world, of course! [Everyone else laughs.]
JP: And what about the rest of you?
Waltrip: Well, I'm from Calacea. My family bred me to play football, but I didn't have my puberty growth spurt ever, so that was out. Tennis was the next best thing for me. And now I'm here.
JP: Well, I think I've bothered all of you enough. Thanks for your time.

Once again, all Walamzian matches will be televised on WalSport.

The Electrum Lawn Tennis Association President, Lewis Stephens walked up to the lectern, in the air conditioned Hamilton Convention Centre. It was the draw.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the multiverse... for the third time this year, players from all around the world come to our country for some of the multiverse's best tennis. And we are happy to announce the draw from the competition, which sees an exciting 48 singles players and 24 doubles pairs duke it out for the Hamilton International Cup. But, half the field hasn't been announced yet! Yes, qualification will be the most intense ever, and with that comes the traditional award of the best underdog, awarded to the qualifier who reaches the furthest in both competitions. We wish everyone luck, as that comes with a bonus $20,000 NSD award, sure to keep the pockets of the qualifier healthy so that they can compete in more tournaments"

Hamilton Mayor Rex Fennek then stood up on the stage. "This tennis tournament represents a massive boost to the Hamilton industry, contributing to our cities' GDP and hiring hundreds of people, whether it be for umpiring, hospitality, food and retail. This tournament represents the lengths the ELTA goes to hosting these excellent tournaments, and we hope that tennis continues here, as part of the ATP for years to come. To all players out there, we will be hosting a pre-tournament ball the day before the tournament proper starts. We hope all of you will be there at the Hamilton Royal for the dance. See you there."

The Arcadian Times

Tennis Tournament Assessment

(24) Laura Meyer (EJM)
Shaheer Shazib (PAT)
Kahanna Montrese (EUR)
Blandus Sanderson (NSL)

Kahanna's entrance into the Hamilton International came as a bit of a surprise. Her dominance in Euroslavian tournaments came to a screeching halt two years ago with the rise of April Carrion, old-timer Tammie Brown, and Kenya Michaels. Soon after, she injured her left hamstring after a slip and fall on the court. Since then, she's been on the rebound, building back her strength and her career. The Arcadian Tennis Championship held in order to qualify her in this tournament has proven that she has come back and is still a force to be reckoned with. Kahanna should not be underestimated.

(17) Adoy Gharhei (CTU)
Trey Johnson (BLT)
Astrid Cambar (HAL)
April Carrion (EUR)

April is the youngest out of the four singles players to enter this tournament from Euroslavia. She's a rising star that continues to knock out some of the most experienced in her country. Ranked #2 in Euroslavia, only behind Tammie Brown, her play style is a unique mixture of power and intellect. Her serve is her strongest suit, as well as her net play. Being 6'0'' certainly has it's advantages for April. She has a catch phrase that echoes throughout the country when she's competing, regardless of win or loss, "Keep calm and carrion".

(10) Zoran Jovanovic (CDO)
Kenya Michaels (EUR)
(23) Gtay Cherheni (CTU)
Mario van Andant (CSG)

Kenya Michaels is another young star that had her moment in the sun last year, where she won 2 out of the 4 major tournaments held in Arcadia, Euroslavia. She has since been pushed out of the top 5 in the rankings, holding steady at #6. During the Arcadian Tennis Championship, she knocked out the #4 ranked "Princess of Tennis", Max Malanaphy, in one of the biggest, most anticipated matchups in Euroslavian tennis history. Doing so gave her the chance to enter this tournament. Here, she has the chance to prove that rankings mean very little in the grand scheme of things and that she's going to give it her all.

(1) Ellela Thotan (CEN)
Fred Smithers (WMZ)
(21) Marcelo de Santigo (CDO)
Tammie Brown (EUR)

Tammie Brown is the current reigning champion of the Arcadian Tennis Championship as well as the #1 singles in Euroslavia. Coming off this most recent win and winning the previous Fall Classic tournament, also held in Arcadia, Tammie is on a wild streak of dominance. When asked about the group she was thrown into for the Hamilton International, she wasn't intimidated despite having two other ranked players to compete with. Tammie has been in the news recently for a streak of side comments that catch her audience off-guard. A news reporter was very critical of her performance and her as a person, seemingly attacking her rather than simply asking questions. She turned around and made the statement ""You called me loser, and I don't see you out there walking the children in nature"", after she was knocked out of the Summer Classic in a mediocre performance against April Carrion. The comment drew mostly confusion. Here's to hoping that Tammie can perform at her best and give it a good run.

Hrok Noki walks into a local bar. He picks up his phone, to see a text message from Sven Anders. "Be at the bar soon" it reads. Upon placing his phone down at the table, Anders bursts through the door. He is wearing the casual Val Hallan national tennis shirt and some cargo shorts. He parks himself down at the bar next to his rival. "Two Martinis please" requests Sven, grinning to Hrok. "Hey man, how you like it here? Don't you just think it's wonderful? The vibes, the competition, the lovely international women". Noki does not seem pleased with Sven's approach. "I only asked you here for one reason, Sven. I want to know if there is no hard feelings after the nationals We good?" asked Hrok. "Hey man, you beat me fair and square. But can't we just enjoy the drinks?". Sven takes a gulp of his drink, and wipes his mouth with his tattoo sleeved swinging arm. He throws an arm round Hrok's shoulders. "Just picture it man. International tennis, and you're there!" slurred Sven. " I won't be here very long if I get drunk the day before qualifying starts. But, I suppose one drink won't hurt".

Reporter: John Kruse
Location: Electrum, assigned training hall for the Qocaekian National Tennis Team

Hello! It's time for my QBN exclusive reports on the Hamilton International again! Today, I'm excited to tell you more about our top tennis athletes in this tournament. (*TV scene switches to a video for Emma Rehnquistianson*) This girl, 24 years old, is one of the most exciting prospects of Qocaekian tennis. Although surprisingly defeated by Natalia Boruc in the National Cup semi-final, she still managed to get a ticket to Electrum. She will also be participating in the doubles tournament following the injury of Kameron Parkings. Her partner, Chris D’Myabá, won second in the Qocaekian Cup with Kameron Parkings. Chris is 25 years old, a tall-built bearded dude from the Banana Islands. Katia Katrina and Jôel Maetins, on the other hand, are more prepared than the previous pair. Katia and Jôel are both born in Taari-Ranokia, and have won 3 consecutive National Cups, including this one, which qualified them for the national team. Katia, 21 years old, is a very hard working girl who also has a PhD in Biochemistry from University of Saint Petersburger. Jôel is 29 years old and came from a family of rich pear farmers. (*scene switches back to John, sitting next to Yun Zhang*) Well, that’s it for the athletes, now let’s hear what the head coach Yun Zhang has to say about this tournament.
J: “Mr. Zhang, what do you think about this tournament? Do we have a chance against all the experienced players?”
Z: “Thou shalt not overlook our athletes, hence we do hast a chance.”
J: “Um, which group do you think have the best chances?”
Z : “I shalt show no personal preferences.” *leaves and begin meditating in a dark room*
J: “Well, guess that will be it for today! I will follow this competition closely and you will get all the goodies too if y’all follow QBN or qbn.net. See you next time, I’m John Kruse, and good luck to all of our atheletes!”

The Centralis Hotel
Centralis, Electrum
Wednesday morning
7 am.

John Galt and Dong Si Yuan are in their hotel room waiting for room service to send up breakfast. Galt is in the bathroom, brushing his teeth. Dong sits on the bed. She appears just a little larger than she was in Ceni. She rubs her belly as Galt puts on a shirt. She looks through a binder with bios of tennis players.

DONG: What do you think of the new policy?

GALT: I’m not sure. The Andromeda Tennis Tour wants more people on tour, but what if you’re good at both singles and doubles? You have to pick one. Bryce Lord is a good singles player, but he chose doubles.

DONG: Well, he plays good with Kelly. They knew each other since high school. They play like we play together.

Galt never played doubles well, until he played with Dong.

GALT: He plays much better with her than he did with Violet. Didn’t they win yesterday?

DONG: 7-5 in the 3rd. All of our matches went three sets. Four of them were decided by late breaks.

GALT: So, Lord and his girl won. Who else won?

DONG: Escobar won. His match was more than three hours long. He looked like he showered in his clothes by the time it was over. Oh, and Cho wore her opponent down. Ended the match winning three straight games.

GALT: What about Big Mack?

DONG: The heat was too much for her. She ran out of gas.

GALT: I’ll bet she’s sunburnt too.

DONG: That’s the thing. She wore this huge hat and she covered herself up. She may have avoided sunburn, but wearing all of those clothes couldn’t have helped, as hot as it was.

GALT: And Knox?

DONG: He and Lupe almost pulled it off. They were down early in the 3rd. They never got back over the hump.

GALT: You know who Russ Knox’s father is, right? Mike Knox! He was the Andromedan President some years back. Don’t know much about Russ Knox, but they did win the qualifying tournament in St. Paul.

DONG: They’re both really smart too. And they’ve been together for a long time.

Galt comes out of the bathroom and looks at their luggage. Their bags are next to the front door.

GALT: I still can’t believe what happened with Smith and Driscoll? That’s some nasty business.

DONG: Drunk Driving is no joke, especially since they’re both under-aged.

GALT: It’s a sad story. You get a bit of fame at a young age and you think you can do anything. I’ve seen it too often.

Galt checked the door again.

DONG: The bags are still there, John.

GALT: Where is this room service? It’s taking forever.

DONG: I only called 20 minutes ago.

GALT: When are we leaving for Hamilton, Mr. Galt?

GALT: Right after breakfast, Mrs. Galt.

Once Galt found out that Dong was pregnant, they got married in a rushed Civil Ceremony in Joppa.

GALT: We should be at the Hotel in Hamilton by 7.

There’s a knock at the door. Galt walks over and opens it. A man brings in a large breakfast platter.

BELL HOP: John and Si Yuan Galt? Wait your name is John Galt?

GALT: Yup!

The bell hop stands outside of the door with his hand out, waiting for a tip.

GALT: You want a tip?

BELL HOP: Yeah!

Galt gives the Bell Hop some money.

GALT: Don’t read Atlas Shrugged unless you absolutely have to.

Last night saw the second Hamilton International tournament kick-off as Laura Meyer overcame a disappointing first set to beat Neyosil's Blandus Sanderson 3-6, 6-3. 6-3. Meyer - who wowed audiences back home during the Cenian Open by cruising through the qualifiers and first round before crashing out in the second round to Ellela Thotan - said after the match "I wasn't my best out there. I was getting used to the courts and I made a couple of mistakes in the first set. Luckily, I managed to turn things round and win it." Meanwhile, Kahanna Montrese of Euroslavia beat Shaheer Shazib of Patistan in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6.

Meanwhile, in the Doubles Tournament, Dresdner and García won their Group 8 match against Jade Sotomayor and Bebe Zahara Benet of Euroslavia. They had no troubles in the first set, but struggled in the second. Fortunately, the managed to rebound to win their first match of the tournament. The win sees them joint first with Bryce Lord and Kelly Cicero of The Andromeda Isles, who beat Ekaterina Somanova and Yuri Smakov of Estenia 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.

The other Elejamian matches of the day saw Christian Lawrence winning his Group 6 match against Fia Xal of Ceni 5-7. 6-4, 7-5; Javier Pasante losing in straight sets (3-6, 4-6) to Costa de Ouro's Natalia Emilia Garcia in Group 16; and Ethan Stokes - despite winning the first set - losing his Group 18 match to Paul Ponsheimer from Casagrande (6-3, 3-6, 4-6).

The Walamzian Post
Tomlinson Downs 13 Seed, 3 Of 4 Matches Won

FRANK SMITH

The scenes all around the Walamzian Tennis Court were immense today as Nate Tomlinson picked up a massive win against 13th-seeded Fadan Landana in 2 straight sets 6-4, 7-6 in the Hamilton International Cup. He spoke to our tennis insider Jake Peters after the match.

JP: Nate, you brought this crowd to stunned silence. How do you feel, defeating one of the tournament's top contenders?
NT: Well, Jake, today's one of the happiest days of my life. However, it's on to the next one from here, so I can't dwell on this now. I'm going to take this in for the next 15 minutes, then it's off to the room for rest and recovery, and also to scout out my next opponent.
JP: Excellent work out there. I'll see you soon.
NT: Take care.
The other big wins from yesterday were Ashley Miller defeating Fillipp Rosimov 6-7, 6-1, 11-9; Fred Smithers defeating 23-seed Marcelo de Santigo 6-3, 6-4; and the Zainer twins defeating Ccyth Ccarlat and Myth Gterhei 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
In other Walamzian tennis action, Edgar Waltrip lost to Joric Novikov 6-2, 3-6, 4-6.

Val Halla enjoy opening day success!

Val Hallan players will leave day one of the Hamilton International very happy, after winning 4 of the 6 games they played. Let's cut to the action now, and see what has happened.

*The screen changes to the match between the match between Maria Katernova and Sven Anders*

Sven Anders went into his first match sporting a hang-over, rumored to be from a night drinking with Hrok Noki. But his pounding head was not enough to stop him, as he left Katernova out to dry, winning six sets to two in both matches.

*Anders jumps to hit the ball, smashing it precisely into his opponents path. The camera then cuts to Anders after the game, sporting an ice pack around his neck*

Anders: Yeah, it was a good result. I think I have more to give, but that will be told by what happens next. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some other activities to attend to.

*The screen changes to the next game*

Joric Novikov was successful in his clash with Walamzia's Edgar Waltrip. He won after three matches, leaving him red headed and flustered afterwards. He was caught out on occasion, his heart not entirely on the court.

*The screen shows the next game*

Young prodigy Astrid Cambar showed the fine form she had done in the Cenian Open. The 15 year old defeated Trey Johnson, despite receiving a tennis ball in the face. She was hit hard, but regained her composure to take victory, winning 6 sets to 2 in the final match. She will be left bruised, but not broken as she goes into her next challenge.

In doubles, there was high fives all round for the men. Gunther Andersen and Isahiah Talis defeated Devonta's Fradina Johnson and Isabella Lopez, the eight seed duo falling before the debut partnership of Talis and Andersen within two matches, leaving the prospect of a full time partnership.

I could play mighty fine
Beat every neighborhood kid

My tennis skills where untold
Best of the best

The Qocaekian Broadcasting Network

Match Day Express:

Match Day one, Hamilton International II.

Today is a good day for Qocaekian tennis, because our honorable athletes are competing in the first sporting this honorable kingdom have ever participated in. It is not, however, the best day for our tennis team. Congratulations to Vladimir Henri, our singles athlete, and our doubles athletes Katia and Jôel, for their wonderful victory today. Natalia Boruc, one of our nations very best singles player, have surprisingly lost her first game. She put up a wonderful fight, but couldn't hold on to the lead. As a youngster at the age of 17, she still have plenty of chances. Emma Rehnquistianson also lost her first game in a close margin, and her stress eventually lead to the loss in her doubles game with partner Chris. Shanï Komaçia too lost her match. Although it is not necessarily the best day for our team, I have full faith in this wonderful tournament, and I believe that our wonderful players will get the results they desired. Good luck to all our athletes!

Electrum Lawn Tennis Association - News

A health check in the second Hamilton International

Due to the tightening of signups in this Tier 1 competition, Electrum was restrained from submitting more players into the competition, despite them hosting the ATP competition. Surprisingly, it is the first time ever that all Electrumites won their matches all on the same day. We hope that this form continues, and that the Hamilton crowds really get behind them in supporting their fellow Electrumites.

In the singles side of things, all Electrumites were seeded, and are expected to advance to the next round of competition as a result. In Group 3, Maya Cassington defeated Cosumarite Erzsébet Ambrus in two straight sets, after a close first set whereby a last minute break by Maya Cassington, exploiting the Cosumarite's unfortunate foot fault/double fault saw Maya win the set. Down in Group 9, sixth seed Greg Meares defeated Big Light's Robert Smith in straight sets as well, cheekily showing off his flair. Meares really played for the crowd yesterday, returning shots through his legs to playing a game whilst running backwards. Robert Smith was simply humiliated by Meares.

In Group 12, Maya Cassington's twin, Mia Cassington defeated Val Halla's Hrok Noki in an extremely close affair, taking three sets to do so. Mia lost the second set 3-6 after a break really got to her nerves -- Mia became very upset but channeled that aggression into the third set when she sealed the deal. Noki played a very competitive match, even though he was drunk -- reports from the Val Hallan media have said that he was sporting a hangover after a heavy drinking session yesterday. If only all players could play like that after a hangover! Finally, eleventh seed Samuel Gates beat Casagrande's Tommy Valtico two sets to love. It was an easy match, despite a scare in the second set where it was played out to 7-5, with Valtico just unable to hold on. Gates had an injury break midway through the second set as well, but after the attendants and masseuse arrived for a 5 minute break, he was back to normal with some athletic tape.

In the doubles, both pairs, after winning their singles matches returned for the doubles matches, where they both won comfortably. Second seed Samuel Gates and Greg Meares once again used their power shots to dominate Ivath and Novikov from Val Halla. And the Cassington twins, still unsatisfied in their victories in the singles tournament defeated Rehnquistianson and D'myabá of the strangely named Qocaekian Isles. Tomorrow will see the four of them once again have a full schedule on their hands, first their singles qualification match, then a few hours break and then the doubles qualification match. The debut nations and players are tricky to gauge as no one has ever heard of them before -- maybe tomorrow will be the day where they will be caught out. With new players comes interesting play styles, and we look forward to seeing all of our Electrumites have close battles.

Today's Day 2 forecast is 38 degrees Celsius and it promises to be a burner. Ice packs, water bottles and complementary towels will be handed out as necessary by the ball boys/girls during the competition. Players are advised to keep hydrated. Also, it is expected that tomorrow is a windy day, with some sand from the deserts making their way to the clay courts of Hamilton. It's going to be a wild day, but we hope you tune in on Network ENN to catch all the action live.

Meyer Wins in Straight Sets - 12th December 2014
Laura Meyer continues to show her dominance on court as she beat Shaheer Shazib 6-2, 6-3. Despite the hot weather, with temperatures reaching 38°C, Meyer kept a cool head as she showed no mercy towards her opponent. With one match left to go, it is more than likely that the 23-year old will qualify for the first round of the Hamilton International. Meanwhile, Blandus Sanderson beat Kahanna Montrese 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Meanwhile, in Group 8 of the Doubles tournament, Paul Dresdner and Jorge García suffered a 3-6, 6-7 defeat at the hands of Ekaterina Somanova and Yuri Smakov. Despite their best efforts, Dresdner and García had little chance of winning, which they believed was due to the extreme heat. Although they bounced back in the second set, it wasn't enough to earn them the match. They will need a straight sets win against their next opponents - group leaders Bryce Lord and Kelly Cicero, who won their match against Jade Sotomayor and Bebe Zahara Benet 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 - in order to stay in the tournament.

The other Elejamian matches today saw Christian Lawrence guaranteed qualification for the first round of the Hamilton International, beating Connor Rollins of Big Light 7-6, 2-6, 6-1; Javier Pasante slump to yet another defeat, losing to Margarita Cho of The Andromeda Isles 3-6, 5-7; and Ethan Stokes overcame a disappointing first game to beat Joanna Cosby of the United States of Devonta 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

Live from the Hamilton Cup

Tomlinson, Zainer Twins Keep Winning

HAMILTON(WAP)- Nate Tomlinson continues his winning ways in the Hamilton Cup as he defeated Celeste Morgan 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. He's looking to be one of the major underdog stories of the tournament. Also, the Zainer twins defeated David long and Phil Ziggler 6-2, 6-2 to put them first in their group leading into their upcoming match against #1 seeded Dušan Ivanovic and Zoran Jovanovic, who lost to Ccarlat and Gterthei, which will be shown live on WalTV (OOC: Think of that channel as ABC/NBC/CBS.) Also, in other singles competition, Ashley Tyler lost to Robert Smith 6-3, 1-6, 4-6; Edgar Waltrip lost to 19-seeded Carmen Doyle 5-7, 4-6; and Nate Smithers (a recluse who keeps to himself) lost to #1 seed Ellela Thotan 2-6, 3-6.

We tried to interview Nate and the Zainer twins, but they were too busy preparing for their big matches for tomorrow.

Tennis Tournament Assessment

Shaheer Shazib (PAT) 3 6
Kahanna Montrese (EUR) 6 7

Blandus Sanderson (NSL) 7 3 6
Kahanna Montrese (EUR) 5 6 3

Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 (24) Laura Meyer 2 2 0 4 1 +3 2
2 Kahanna Montrese 2 1 1 3 2 +1 1
3 Blandus Sanderson 2 1 1 3 3 0 1
4 Shaheer Shazib 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

Kahanna Montrese came right out of the gate, working that first match hard to come out with a victory in two sets, against Shaheer Shazib. The score may not indicate it too much, but it was a pretty brutal matchup. The back and forth play was absolutely stunning. The second match was even more brutal than the first. Blandus Sanderson pulled out a victory after an incredibly tough match and three sets. Kahanna's faults ended up being her own demise. After the second match-up, we had a chance to ask Kahanna a few questions.

How do you feel about how you played in your first match? What do you expect from further competitors, namely Laura Meyer, who has won her first two matches?

"You know, I feel great about how I played. I gave it my all out there. I spilled my heart onto the floor, after everything I've gone through with making a comeback in Euroslavia, and it showed. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough in the second match. Blandus played a great game and deserved that victory. All I can do and say now is that I'm going to continue to give it my all and push to make it through the qualification round. As far as Laura is playing, no one can deny that she's on top of her game, moreso than the rest of our group. She's definitely someone I'm going to have to step up for, if I'm going to have a chance in taking that match and a victory."

Meanwhile, April Carrion has continued to play a solid game through her first two matches. So much that she has already succeeded in clinching a spot past the qualifying round.

(17) Adoy Gharhei (CTU) 5 4
April Carrion (EUR) 7 6

April Carrion (EUR) 7 6
Astrid Cambar (HAL) 6 4

April has won her first two matches, both in two sets, against Adoy Gharhei and Astrid Cambar. The first victory came as a jawdropper. April held her own at the net and was able to make some key placements with the ball to push her ahead and into a win after two sets. Her second match against Astrid was no different, another tough matchup. These victories proved that the competitors from Euroslavia are out for blood and are out to show the rest of the world that we're ready to jump into the international scene and leave a mark. April's next matchup, while still just as important as the first two in terms of proving how much of a competitor she is, is deemed as a 'spoiler'. What we mean by that is that April has the chance to affect who qualifies in the group. Trey Johnson has been playing a solid game so far. A victory against Trey would give Astrid a chance to qualify. The match should prove to be interesting, as Trey will be out to play their best game, moreso than ever.

Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 April Carrion 2 2 0 4 0 +4 2 Q
2 Trey Johnson 2 1 1 3 2 +1 1
3 Astrid Cambar 2 1 1 2 3 −1 1
4 (17) Adoy Gharhei 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

Another Euroslavian has made it past the qualifying round, that being little Kenya Michaels. For a smaller girl, she has a lot of bite and a lot of ferocity. She's been out there to prove herself and to the rest of the world that she's someone to watch out for in future matches and tournaments, and so far, she's done exactly that.

Kenya Michaels (EUR) 6 6
(23) Gtay Cherheni (CTU) 4 4

(10) Zoran Jovanovic (CDO) 4 4
Kenya Michaels (EUR) 6 6

Apparently 6 and 4 are her magic numbers. She's been able to win both matches in two sets, with the same exact score each time. Both matches were certainly not a breeze, as both Gtay and Zoran put up incredible fights to snatch victory out of Kenya's hands, but she proved to be too much for them to handle. Kenya will not be in a similar situation as April though, as Kenya will be playing a match against Mario van Andant, who seems to be struggling in this tournament. The most important detail about any competition is that you never underestimate anyone, and Mario will be out to fight for a win, for their own pride. To knock off the first place player within the group would be a satisfying moment, so Kenya knows that regardless of who she's playing against, she has to be at the top of her game consistently.

Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Kenya Michaels 2 2 0 4 0 +4 2 Q
2 (10) Zoran Jovanovic 2 1 1 2 2 0 1
(23) Gtay Cherheni 2 1 1 2 2 0 1
4 Mario van Andant 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

Tammie Brown, Euroslavia's #1 singles, has continued on with her success by defeating Ellela Thotan in a shocking upset as well as Marcelo de Santigo. When asked about both of her victories, she simply responded with "I can get jiggy, I can get jiggy and wiggy!", which as usual, caused confusion among the press. However, this is nothing new concerning her personality and spunky attitude. She hasn't hit the qualifying point yet, so she needs to continue with the way she's played so far and fight for every last scrap of meat, in a dog eat dog world.

(1) Ellela Thotan (CEN) 6 2 4
Tammie Brown (EUR) 0 6 6

Tammie Brown (EUR) 6 6
(21) Marcelo de Santigo (CDO) 1 2

Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Tammie Brown 2 2 0 4 1 +3 2
2 (1) Ellela Thotan 2 1 1 3 2 +1 1
3 Fred Smithers 2 1 1 2 2 0 1
4 (21) Marcelo de Santigo 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

India Ferrah and Manila Luzon have been on and off in a group that's been a struggle overall. The competition is stiff and definitely no joke, whatsoever.

India Ferrah/Manila Luzon (EUR) 6 6 6
Macy Minter/Constance O'Deur (COS) 7 2 3

(7) Aurelio Alves/Marcelo de Santigo (CDO) 6 2 6
India Ferrah/Manila Luzon (EUR) 1 6 2

Both matches were back and forth, with India and Manila coming out on top in the first match, but falling short on the second against Aurelio and Marcelo. A victory in the coming matchup against Greg/Billy would give India and Manila the confidence they need and the points they need to qualify. Knocking out the top team in their own group would be a great way to solidify their partnership as well. Here's to wishing them both the best of luck in their final qualifying match!

Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Greg Albarn/Billy Kidd 2 2 0 4 1 +3 2
2 India Ferrah/Manila Luzon 2 1 1 3 3 0 1
3 (7) Aurelio Alves/Marcelo de Santigo 2 1 1 2 3 −1 1
4 Macy Minter/Constance O'Deur 2 0 2 2 4 −2 0
