The Tourism Bureau's official visitor's guide for the World Lacrosse Championships

This bizarre place our teams have to go...what's it like?

Cosumar is a kingdom in northeastern Atlantian Oceania. Our beloved land was first discovered almost a millennium ago by hopelessly lost overseas migrants of mixed nationality who crashed ashore on the east coast of Klyde Isle. Cosumar was completely uninhabited, except for the indigenous Vloo people (species homo cosumarensis) on the opposite coast. Today, Cosumar is comprised of 21 historical "fiefs", which are now effectively provinces. The government is a constitutional monarchy (though the word “constitutional” may be a stretch) currently led by the benevolent King James II.

The Fiefdom consists of a large landmass Cosumarus (roughly 70% the size of Australia) and a smaller one Klyde Isle to the east. A few archipelagos off the west coast are encompassed by the Fiefdom as well. The population was approximately 500 Million after the 990 Census (current year of Cosumarite calendar is 999). The largest population centers (Kaldukosic, Ramusok, Klyde) are on the east coast. The weather there is quite moderate, with chilly but not severe winters and warm but not hot summers and remarkably pleasant autumn/spring seasons. Other regions of Cosumar (like the frigid northern peninsula, arid central desert and tropical southwest) vary wildly, however.

As one of the world’s leaders in space travel and science, Cosumar also has several well-developed extraterrestrial colonies and territories that are a crucial part of our economic system. Cosumar is also strongly cultured, with diverse and vibrant art and music scenes thriving in most urban areas. Despite boasting sophisticated technology and infastructure, Cosumarites maintain strong links to their past. In fact, neopaganism and other folk religions are among the most common faiths (though a majority of Cosumarites are atheist). Cosumar is divided into "urban" and "nature" divisions that are kept separate, allowing the Fiefdom to forge ahead while still maintaining the wonderful natural features unique to Cosumar (such as the famous Cosumarite Azure Dragons that have been immortalized by our flag and team name).

Most Cosumarites have chips implanted in their brain that allow them to process most of the world's major languages, so communication is never a problem when hosting international events. Because Cosumar is such a patchwork of diverse heritages, this was necessary to make sure everybody could communicate efficiently. The default language is English, but Swedish, Welsh, Vloo, Spanish, Esperanto, Norwegian, Finnish, Latvian, and Japanese all have regions where they are commonly spoken.

Do people care about the WLC in Cosumar?

Cosumar has a proud tradition of excellence in the World Lacrosse Championships, including 2nd place results in WLC 12 and 19 and a 3rd place result in WLC 18. Though still in search of their first WLC title, the Dragons’ runner-up finish in the last edition was enough to propel Cosumar into the top spot in the international rankings. With international success came domestic growth. The Cosumarite Lacrosse League (CLL) had just six struggling franchises 20 years ago. But demand for the sport has boomed in the time since, and the league has expanded to 24 teams. Most major markets in Cosumar now have a thriving lacrosse presence and shiny new stadiums. There's no better place to celebrate the 20th anniversary of international lacrosse.

Where will the games be held?

Using this map, you can note the various cities and regions of Cosumar. This will be helpful in locating the venues below. Though Cosumar is a large place, the Monorail Hyperloop system can travel up to 750mph, meaning you will never have to travel more than 3 or 4 hours between venues.

CosumaQuest Stadium

Image

Location: Centus, Gellano Fief

Capacity: 60,000

Description: The largest lacrosse-primary stadium in Cosumar. The home field of the Cosumarite national team, domestic lacrosse club Centus Journeymen, as well as gridiron football team Centus Owls. Constructed 16 years ago just before WLC12. The place will be absolutely packed with people and energy for Cosumar games. Centus is the 5th most populous city in Cosumar, with about 6 million people. It sits on the coast of Klyde Bay and is surrounded on all sides by Eastweald Forest, one of the largest nature reserves in the Fiefdom. Centus can get fairly cold at this time of year - it might snow a little.

Assignment: Group 1, Ro12 3, Quarterfinal 3, Final

Apes Stadium

Image

Location: Altamirano, Sindo Fief

Capacity: 30,000

Description: Home of one of the most successful domestic lacrosse clubs in Cosumar, the Altamirano Apes. Constructed nine years ago and underwent major renovations last year. Altamirano is a city of approximately 800,000 in a mountainous region of Cosumar. The high altitude can be a challenge for players not used to it, especially in long games. Temperature at this time of year is cool but not cold, though there are strong winds. Visitors should take time to visit some of the famous hiking trails and other scenic features around Altamirano. The tallest mountain in Cosumar, Jagged Peak (35,000 ft.), is only 30 minutes away.

Assignment: Group 2, Ro12 4, Quarterfinal 2, 3rd Place Game

Edward J. Bonner Field

Image

Location: Holmenkollen, Ramusok Fief

Capacity: 45,000

Description: Home of the Cosumar Lacrosse League's Holmenkollen Wanderers as well as the athletics program of nearby West Ramusok Univerity. It is a historic venue, first constructed 91 years ago in the heart of downtown Holmenkollen and expanded to its current capacity 26 years ago. Holmenkollen is a plush, wealthy suburb of Ramusok, the capital of Cosumar. If your team plays here, be prepared for some of the nicest accommodations in Cosumar. It is also the location of the most prestigious lacrosse youth academy in Cosumar. Weather is mild and should not affect the matches at all.

Assignment: Group 3, Quarterfinal 1, Semifinal 2

TLAC Arena

Image

Location: Kaldukosic, Kaldukosic Fief

Capacity: 20,000

Description: The only indoor venue of the World Lacrosse Championships, TLAC Arena is a multi-purpose facility that is the home of lacrosse team Kaldukosic Oblivion and basketball team Kaldukosic Havok. It is a brand new stadium, constructed last year after the Havok won the Cosumar Basketball Association championship. The field is slightly smaller than those used in outdoor venues. Kaldukosic is one of the megahubs of Atlantian Oceania. It is the largest city in Cosumar with a population of 18 million. From skyscrapers to huge crowds to museums and theatres to nightlife, there will be plenty to do in Kaldukosic for visiting teams and fans.

Assignment: Group 4, Ro12 1, Semifinal 1

VisionTech Field

Image

Location: Crawford, Numenvernien Fief

Capacity: 15,000

Description: One of the first lacrosse-specific stadiums built in Cosumar, about ten years ago. Home of the Crawford Lions, the defending champions of the Cosumarite Lacrosse League. It's the smallest of the five WLC venues, but it has an energetic, intimate atmosphere. Crawford is the largest city on the western side of Cosumar and sixth most populous overall (5 mil), famous for its constant sunshine, nude beaches and nearby jungle (Everlong Rainforest).

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's second time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. Because of their incredible performance in the previous WLC, the Fleftic Lacrosse Federation will be sending the women's national team to represent the Democratic Republic in this tournament. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in the last tournament, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. This women's team is different from the other women's lacrosse teams, because they are trained in men's lacrosse rules, the reasons why will be explained in the history spoiler below.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current promotion-and-relegation format in 1951, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse Premier League) at the top of the pyramid. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Flefteikor' Fidourhat'she ob Lakros or FFoL) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually the FFoL established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men, because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

Head Coach: Luzviminda Lozima (66)
Lozima is the first ever head coach of the Abanhfleft women's national lacrosse team, a position which has been ironically dominated by men. A noted lacrosse player herself, Lozima definitely knows how the players think on the field and off it. This gives her an edge over many former managers, who were men and therefore had no experience playing women's style lacrosse. The players also have a deep respect of Lozima because of her fame and role in the old silverware-winning national side of old.

Assistant Coach - Tactics: Tim Blyther (40)
Blyther is an Australian who played lacrosse in Abanhfleft's Lacrosse Premier League for almost fifteen years, eventually retiring in 2009 with five championships under his belt. Blyther is also a fan of association football, and was the mastermind of adapting some of that's sports tactics into lacrosse, and this combination of lacrosse and football helped lead the Releinthi Fighting Sticks to three consecutive championships in the Lacrosse Premier League. Being the inventor and innovator of FootCrosse (the combination of football and lacrosse tactics), Blyther was invited by the FFoL to be both national teams' tactics coach, but this will be the first time that FootCrosse will be seen on the world stage, and how Abanhfleft will perform in this tournament will determine the viability of FootCrosse on the international lacrosse scene.

Assistant Coach - Training: Chan Lua (54)
A popular aerobics instructor back in the 1980s, Chan Lua was hired by the FFoL in 2012 for a yearly salary of 2 million new penenks, one of the largest yearly salaries ever in the federation. Lua's job will be to increase and enhance the players' fitness levels. Lua's hiring, which had been a controversial decision at the time, eventually paid off when both national teams' starting lineups lasted much longer on the field than their opponents. Observers keen to gauge this side will look to Lua's contributions to the effectiveness of the national side.

Menan Alrisheb (#10) - The star player of the Abanhfleft's women's lacrosse team. She definitely has the makings of a world lacrosse superstar, being in the prime of her playing career. Her talent was spotted at a very early age, being already courted by some of the country's top universities when she was still 11. She eventually went to Malhall State University, which has a critically acclaimed lacrosse varsity program and is incidentally near her hometown of Selid, in Myleikaf state. Alrisheb was then signed by the Bytuch Wyk Hermits (Ladies) at the age of 21. Alrisheb began representing Abanhfleft in 2005, when she was a reserve attacker for the U-18 side. She made her first team debut against Canada in 2009, and she immediately showed signs of her emergence as one of the best lacrosse players of her generations by scoring a goal and assisting in two more in a hard-fought 3-3 draw. She also made waves in the national sports scene when she announced that she was in a relationship with Ibrahim Ahmadinejad, right fielder of the Verbergerkinnh Cubs of the Abanhfleft Major League of Baseball and the men's national baseball team.

Fatima Alsambis (#9) - One of Fleftic sports' greatest success stories. Alsambis was diagnosed with a congenital defect which meant that she had little to no control over her excretory system, leading to her being stuck with diapers her whole life. Most people would have given up the rest of their lives at that, but not Fatima Alsambis. Despite her medical condition, Alsambis strived hard in athletics, and eventually became a skilled lacrosse player. One would think that playing sports, especially lacrosse, would be hard while wearing an adult diaper, but Alsambis made it work. She was signed by the Riuwiee Stateswomen in 2004, and she was called up to the national team soon after. She also shocked the Fleftic sporting world by declaring on national television her eventual love for diapers, along with the declaration that Fleftic football star Luke Edwards had proposed to her after almost 8 years of dating.

Cecilia Cuvimi (#8) - Cuvimi carrries on her shoulders the legacy of the Cuvimi sporting family, begun by her grandfather, Cecil Rhodes Cuvimi, Senior. She started playing for the Bendy Benny Benders (Ladies) in 2004, and was called up to the national team in 2007. Up to this day, she has been inconsistent in her playing style. Sometimes she shows the brilliance that evokes the run-and-gun style of the elder Cuvimis. Other times she plays like a seventeen-year-old reserve player forced up into the first team by injuries to the better players. Cecilia definitely has a lot to prove, and while she has become consistent in her game during the World Lacrosse Championship XIX, there is still room for improvement for her.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

SKARAKIA ENTERS WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

It's been a while, but Skarakia is back in the saddle! While this is technically Skarakia's second time attempting a World Lacrosse Championship, they had to back out of their last attempt just days into the tournament, due to internal conflict reasons. Now that those have settled down, all the Skarakian National Lacrosse players have returned to their practice fields in preparation for the upcoming tournament. The Eagles have been hard at work since the last time, and they are committed to making those back home proud. When interviewed, head coach Amadeus Olafsen had a few choice words for his boys. "We have been working very hard. While I think our defensive slide is slow at times, I have no doubt that the boys can compete at this level. Our 2-3 offense works very well."

Here's a little sneak peak at how Skarakia's starting lineup looks right now:

Starting Goalie: John Bayern (#3)

Left Defender: Sigmund Asatroth (#33)
Central Defender: Volund Yggson (AC) (#31)

OFFICIAL SKARAKIAN SPORTING NEWS

World Lacrosse Championship groups drawn!

It's official! The groups have been drawn, the practices are getting harsher, and the time is growing near! The World Lacrosse Championship is almost here! Lacrosse fever has swept the nation, with packs of children, teenagers, and adults roaming the streets with their lacrosse sticks in hand! Let's take a look at the group in which the Eagles have been drawn:

(7)Estope: One of the best in the world. At number 7, they have proven in the past that they can, and will, go far in this tournament. Citizens of Estope might be dreaming of the Championship this year. Skarakia will have their hands full with this team.

(18)Britonesia: Sitting at number 18, Britonesia will hope that they will have a good showing this year. The citizens might hope for a better run this year than last, and we might be looking at at a quantifiable "dark horse" in this competition. The Eagles will have to play very well to get any results against this team

(31)Darvale: Sitting at number 31 in the world, Darvale might be on the outside looking in, in this competition anyway. This team will have to do well in order to get in third in the group. Our boys will have to play hard in order to get past this team.

Waldreich: They might be unranked but make no mistake, these boys can play. Not many results to judge them on, but they will keep our boys on their toes.

Kemobon: Another unranked team. However, they have the capacity to pull off some upsets. Don't brush this game off, it might be a very good one.

As you can see, the Eagles will have their hands completely full. Hope and pray for some upsets, and we could be in good position to get into 3rd place. From there, who knows what could happen?

Optimist predicted place in group: 1st
Realist predicted place in group: 3rd

Make sure you watch the game at your local pub! The games start Wednesday!

National Lacrosse Team of Electrum
National Team for WLC20

Background
Lacrosse is a burgeoning sport in Electrum. It is known for it's similarity to Electrum's favourite football code: Australian Rules in that players tackle each other for control of the ball. After the WLC18 was announced, a team from Centralis University, the Centralis Eagles, was sent as the representative of Electrum. Most of the players are around 20-22 years old, but there are a few professors and older-aged students on the team as well. The team's focus is teamwork, unity and most of all the spreading of lacrosse spirit all of the country. They have recently hired a coach, Sam Galloway, a rugby and hockey expert from Centralis University to offer advice for the team.

Team Colours: Gold and Brown

Schedule:
Group 5 - All matches take place at VisionTech Field
MD1: vs Val Halla
MD2: vs Natanya
MD3: vs Nassau-Hessen
MD4: vs Patistan
MD5: vs United States of Devonta

Roster
The team's style is +3. There is particular focus on midfield and gaining possession/turnover of the ball as much as possible. This disrupts the rhythm of the opponent and makes it easier for the Electrum team to break through defenses and score goals. During their first WLC, two tournaments ago, a tough group performance saw Electrum got through to the finals their skin of their teeth where they lost thoroughly to Unolia in the R16. Last time, in Vintomter, unbelievable losses to nations nobody had ever heard of stopped Electrum in their tracks in advancing, coming third in a disappointing group stage. This time they seek revenge and have been given a grant by the Department of Sports to continue.

Attackers
2. Jason Zhong (vc) Age: 20
4. Mark Kane Age: 19
5. Jeff Martínez Age: 28

Midfielders
6. Dr. Steven Farmer Age: 35
7. Corey White Age: 18
1. Louis Stephens (c) Age: 21

Defenders
3. Professor Samantha Parks Age: 32
8. Eileen Mac Age: 23
9. Joshua Guo Age: 19

Goalie
10. Max Paneer Age: 20

RP Permissions: Anything bizarre or unrealistic is OK by me, but no injuries or red-cards or anything that makes one of my members miss a game. There is only a team of ten here.

(OOC: Woohoo! Start of a new series!)

Dissociation, Part One

July 22, 1992
Releinthi, Abanhfleft

Zachary Tyler's heart was beating fast.

It wasn't that he was not used to that feeling. To tell the truth, he actually liked the feeling of blood and adrenaline being pumped through his veins at an accelerated rate. As a former soldier, he had actually experienced this feeling lots of times already. In Abanhfleft, military service had been compulsory for every able-bodied male since the creation of its first ever professional army in the years leading up to the Great War. Zachary--Zach to his friends--had been a veteran of at least five expansion wars fought by the Free Land, the most recent being the Verbergerkinnh Colonial Rebellion, which had ended in a smashing victory for Abanhfleft, although a guerrilla campaign was still ongoing in the colony when Zach's unit had left. He had been honorably discharged from the Army in 1988 as a senior lieutenant, two years after the campaign. Soon after, Zach had accepted an offer from the Fleftic National Police to become an officer, and he was soon after assigned to the Releinthi Police Department. He and his wife Kimber had moved to the country's largest city as soon as they could.

Zach and Kimber had been the classic movie couple: they met in college, married soon after graduating, and Kimber had been responsible for holding down his home front while Zach was off waging war for the Free Land. The only thing that they didn't have was a child to call their own. They had tried, oh, they had tried so many times, but by the time Zach had become a member of the Releinthi PD, Kimber had miscarried five times already, and eventually the two of them agreed to just give up, because apparently it wasn't happening. At least they had each other, they consoled themselves. They could now devote time to each other, and their work.

That had been four years ago. A lot had happened to them in the time since. Zach had been promoted from being a patrol officer into a detective, and Kimber now held a stable job teaching in Releinthi State University. Their combined incomes had allowed them to purchase a decent home in Releinthi's affluent Ebelgorze District, and while they loved where they were in their lives right now, they both knew that there was something missing.

Zach shook his head, bringing his mind back to the present. The reason why his heart was beating so fast now was because he was finally on his first real case as a detective, third grade of the Fleftic National Police. For almost three months after his promotion, he had been assigned to junk cases; cases such as minor vehicle theft (read teenagers taking their parents' cars out for a joyride), minor domestic disturbances (read couples either fighting or banging loud enough for their neighbors to hear), and maybe the occasional scuffle between sports fans for all five major sports franchises in the city. But this case, this was the case that Zach had been waiting for. It had begun innocently enough, with a few concerned citizens reporting some suspicious activity in the Northwoods, one of Releinthi's many ghetto districts. What sealed the deal was the fact that one of the officers staking out the place had managed to photograph Hermenegildo Sanchez, a small-time dealer that was connected with the rapidly growing Huesca Cartel, coming out of the apartments. Sanchez already had an arrest warrant issued for him, and it was simply a matter of taking him down and hopefully leading the FNP deeper into the Huesca Cartel and closer to its elusive leader, Guillermo Huesca.

Zach had been given the case by the chief of the detectives' division as a rite of passage. It was a simple job of arresting someone that the FNP had been wanting for some time now, and it would also show if he was ready for heavier responsibilities within the police force. The department had assigned a rapid-response force for this takedown, but Zach would be leading them.

Zach wiped the sweat on his forehead with his right arm, and he checked that a round was chambered in his M1911 pistol. It was the same pistol that his father had been issued during his time in the Fleftic Army, and it had soon become an heirloom. Zach unsafed the pistol, and then he banged on the apartment's door and said, in a loud voice, "FNP! Hermenegildo Sanchez, we're here to serve you the arrest warrant issued on your name since July 3, 1991!" No one responded. That was strange for both Zach and the rapid-response team. Usually suspects shouted back their choice of insults at the police and their mothers, or they just replied with their guns. But the apartment was silent after Zach had made his announcement. That was the first sign that something was going wrong.

"Take it down," Zach ordered one of the rapid-response guys. The trooper lifted up a heavy steel rod with two handles on both ends and smashed it hard onto the door. The wood splintered, but the door held. The trooper repeated the process, and this time the door finally gave way. Zach was the first one into the unlit apartment, and he had to take his pocket flashlight and turn it on to conduct a proper search. Behind him, he heard the rapid-response team follow him into the apartment.

The interior of the apartment appeared old and untouched by human hands. Filth was everywhere, from rats to garbage to even human feces. Zach covered his nose and tried to breathe through his mouth, but he found that he could taste the excrement when he inhaled through his mouth, so he just tied his handkerchief around his face and covered his nose. "Check your corners," he told. His mind went back to the time that he was still a senior lieutenant in the Army, back in Verbergerkinnh. His squad had done their fair share of house-clearing operations in various settlements in the colony during the rebellion, mostly to root out known and suspected Verbergerkinnh Indepedence Movement members, but sometimes they found surprises, such as an entire rebel arsenal, and there was one time where they broke into a meeting of VIM commanders, and what a firefight that had been. What few rebels that had survived the shootout had been almost immediately turned over to the authorities by those soldiers in his squad that had survived the encounter. He had lost a few good friends in that firefight. Markus, Johannes, Harvey... Those were good men. And now they were finally at rest, having made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation--

"Die, lagarto puta!" someone shouted. Zach's mind reacted on pure instinct as he heard gunshots being fired inside the apartment. He brought up his pistol and fired three times. He heard the loud thud of a weapon falling to the ground, accompanied by the louder thud of a body falling down dead. Zach, now fully back in the present day, shone his flashlight on the spot where he thought he heard the body fall. It revealed a woman, maybe just in her early twenties, lying in a pool of her own blood. There were two bullet holes in her chest, and the top of her head had simply vanished. A SPAS-12 shotgun lay near her body.

"Everyone okay back there?" Zach asked belatedly. The rapid-response trooper behind him was leaning on the wall and breathing hard, but closer inspection revealed that the shotgun pellets had been stopped by his body armor. "Remind me to invest in Kevlar, man," he said to Zach.

"You okay?"

The trooper nodded. "I just need to catch my breath," he replied. "It's like being kicked by a two-hundred-pound mule."

"All right, just stay back there and let the rest of us handle this," Zach said.

"Don't worry, Zach," the trooper replied. "Take him down for me, will you?"

"You got it." Zach then went deeper into the apartment. He and the remaining rapid-response troopers began clearing the various rooms in the apartment. Apart from the now-dead woman, the place seemed to be empty, but Zach knew better, mostly because the police assets watching over the apartment just before they moved in didn't report Sanchez trying to sneak away from the place. Besides, he could smell chemicals cooking somewhere in the apartment. Hermenegildo Sanchez was well known for making his own product.

Zach tried to use his nose to follow the smell. It wasn't an easy task, given that the apartment was already coated with the filth of neglect. But finally, he detected the faint smell of bubbling morphine or cocaine or whatever was the new drug that people got addicted to today. "Kitchen," he mouthed to one of the rapid-response troopers, who moved towards the direction that Zach was pointing, his MP5 in front of him and ready to engage any possible target. Zach and the trooper moved slowly towards the kitchen, the smell of cooking chemicals growing stronger with every step. Zach and the trooper quickly moved into cover behind the doorframe, and Zach made to peek into the kitchen.

He saw a bunch of lab apparatus merrily cooking Sanchez's latest product. Zach also saw Sanchez's face very briefly before the drug dealer raised his own pistol and fired at him. "Fuck you, fuck la policia!" he shouted. "I don't follow your rules! Get out of my house! I rule my house! My house, my kingdom!"

"Man needs anger management," Zach muttered. He nodded towards the rapid-response trooper, who raised up his MP5 and made ready to fire. Zach nodded again, and the two of them moved into the kitchen at the same time, firing their weapons. A few vials broke upon being hit by the bullets, and Hermenegildo Sanchez's dead body collapsed from the chair he was sitting on and went down to the ground. Zach moved to the body and kicked the pistol away, even though there was little chance of it being used now. "Well, shit," he muttered. "We just lost one of our leads to Huesca."

"Don't sweat it, man," the rapid-response guy said. "It was the only possible conclusion after he fired his gun."

"Still." It may seem selfish, but already Zach was thinking ahead to the chances of him ever getting promoted again. "All right, call in the investigators. This bust is a bust."

As the rapid-response team began to stand down, Zach began the slow journey out of the apartment. His new career might as well be ruined now. No way was he getting anywhere out of being a detective third class after what happened tonight. All he needed to do was to injure Sanchez. His military training had failed him, for the first time in his life. He had killed when he wasn't supposed to kill.

That was when he heard a mysterious crying sound. But that was impossible. They had already gone through the apartment earlier. If there was someone else in the place, then surely he would have seen him or her. Zach tried to hone in on the sound of the crying. It was a hard job, because he had lost some of his hearing during a particularly intense shelling back in Verbergerkinnh.

Zach moved towards one of the rooms that they had only given a cursory inspection during their first run-through in the apartment. He opened the door fully, letting what little light from the street filter into the room. He decided that it wasn't enough light, and he decided to turn on his flashlight once again. What the beam of his light settled on shocked him. There was a baby in the room, wrapped in a blanket that was once white but was now grey, yellow, and brown. He picked up the baby, slowly, and began rocking his arms. "Hey there, little guy," he said. The blanket slipped off the baby, and he immediately corrected himself. "Oh, you're a little girl, huh?"

The baby cried a little more, and then it looked Zach in the eyes. Both of them held their gaze. The baby stopped crying, and Zach went silent. Finally, he managed to clear his throat and said, "Where's your parents, little girl?"

The baby cried once again, and while Zach was sure that her movements were all random and unplanned, she seemed to be pointing towards the hallway and the kitchen. "The man and woman out there are your parents?" he asked her. Once again, her random movements seemed to give her the impression of nodding. Now Zach's mind was racing. What in the world do I do now? he thought to himself.

"Tyler?" one of the crime scene investigators called out as he entered the apartment. "Are you still there?"

"Yeah," Zach called out, still cradling the baby. The investigator stepped into the room and saw Zach standing there with the baby. "Is that yours?" he asked Zach.

"No way, man," Zach replied. "I think it might actually be Sanchez's kid, or his girl bodyguard's."

"Well, they're both dead now, so it doesn't matter whose kid it is." Both of them went silent for a moment. "Zach, you're not thinking of..."

"I can always say that Kimber and I found her," Zach said. "Besides, she deserves a better life than just being left alone in this hellhole of an apartment."

"All right, Zach," the investigator said, raising his hands in surrender, "I'm not gonna even say anything anymore. It's your choice, your responsibility, your life. I just hope that you don't regret it later."

"What would I even regret about adopting a baby?" Zach asked, almost rhetorically. "It could even be the best thing that happened to me and Kimber. After the last miscarriage... we just didn't try for another one anymore, you know what I mean?" And now that his mind was set, he could already see himself raising this baby like his own offspring. Now it was all just a matter of telling Kimber about her new daughter. Zach already had a name for her: Alice. Yes, that was a good name. Alice Tyler.

"Welcome to your new life, little girl," Zach said.

Estenia wins Kytle Peninsulae!

CosumaQuest Stadium, Centus, Cosumar

The stadium wasn't full of fans from either sides, it was mostly Cosumarite peple. Most of them supporting sports trade partners Estenians after their team gained trust from the buy-sell cycle there's areound, but on another sport. Estenian supporters were sounding loud enough to be listened by the players who got in on a very good mood, ready for the win. 3rd time's the charm as everyone sais, it may be truth, if Estenia wins this tournament so up to the match report.

Kytler Peninsulae started the game pretty well in the 1st quarter, keeping it low and smooth. They were winning us 2-0 with the excellent game they were playing, Feofilakt couldn't defend by himself, then he got angry and stole the ball, moved on, passed it to Filipp who gave it to Kirill who dribbled a couple of Kytlerians to score a point. It was an exciting 2-1 with only 5 minutes remaining for the end of the quarter. Then 2 minutes later, Filipp was passed by Karp, then he gave to to Dmitrii, who gave it back to him and Filipp shot it to be 2-2, then on the next chance, Filipp takes the ball from Kytlerians and scores another one 2-3, the final score of the first 15-minute quarter, one of the most exciting one played by Estenians.

Second quarter began very smoothly for Kytlerians again, making the game equalised with 4-4 and being a very close matchup, fortunately, Estenians broke the way through and started scoring with ease, Feofilakt, Filipp and Karp scored 4 goals for the team, 2 from Feofilakt and 1 from others respectively.....Grade the RP, but it needs work.

Dissociation, Part Two

Releinthi State University
Twenty-two years later

Zach Tyler stood beside his minivan, hands crossed above his chest. He had been in this position ever since he arrived at the university to pick up his wife and daughter. The time alone had given him time to reminisce about the events that had led him here in the first place. It turned out that the death of Hermenegildo Sanchez actually had no lasting effect on Zach’s career. The FNP had discovered another drug lord connected to the Huesca Cartel the very same night that Zach had moved to arrest Sanchez, and that other drug lord had actually been higher up in the cartel’s hierarchy, and he had even revealed that Sanchez was nothing more than just a leech that stuck to the organization just to get the protection and associated power. It was actually a good thing that Hermenegildo Sanchez had died: the world was one less lowlife, and the FNP didn’t have to waste too much resources on an asset that would have given them nothing anyway.

The other good thing that had come from the death of Hermenegildo Sanchez was Alice, the same baby that Zach had found in Sanchez’s apartment during the raid. There was no doubt in Zach’s mind that Alice would have died in that apartment if he hadn’t found her when he did. Of course Kimber was surprised when Zach had brought Alice home, but in a pleasant way. It was like a veil had been lifted from her face when she saw Alice for the first time, and soon Kimber had that warm glow of motherhood upon her. Even though she was not the one that had given birth to Alice, Kimber treated her like her own flesh and blood. And, in a way, so did Zach. He found himself thinking more and more that Alice was his own daughter, and not just some baby that he found in a dark apartment one cold July night.

There was only one more thing that Zach had to know. He went to the morgue, took a hair from Sanchez’s corpse, and then he went to a doctor friend in a nearby hospital and asked him to run a DNA test on Sanchez and Alice, just to see if they were related. Two months later, the doctor gave Zach the bad news: Alice was indeed Hermenegildo Sanchez’s daughter. And that had been what finally convinced Zach that he was doing the right thing by raising Alice as his own. He could only think about what kind of life Alice would be living right now if Zach hadn’t killed Sanchez that night.

Zach lowered his arms once he saw his wife and daughter coming out of the university and walking towards him. Kimber was wearing one of those suits and skirts that was a shade of brown that was called “earth brown” in polite company. Of course, he had his own terms for it: “shit brown.” Alice, meanwhile, was wearing a blue-and-yellow cheerleader’s outfit. Alice was a very active girl; aside from cheerleading, she was also a football (soccer) player, and proficient in martial arts such as jiujitsu and Krav Maga. The two of them were the most important women in Zach’s life, apart from his own mother, of course. But he always thought it strange that even though Kimber and Alice had no blood relation between them, they both carried themselves the same way, with a quiet determination and confidence that said that they were women, but they were not to be treated lightly. It was that quiet, unspoken confidence that had attracted Zach to Kimber in the first place, and apparently it had rubbed off on Alice.

“How are my two favorite girls in the world doing?” Zach asked as Kimber and Alice walked up to him. Kimber gave Zach a kiss on the cheek, and Alice averted her eyes and made a face, like all teenagers and young adults do when seeing their parents kissing in front of them.

“So how did the lieutenant’s examination go, honey?” Kimber asked her husband. Zach’s face went serious, and Kimber’s face turned downcast. Then Zach said, “You’re looking at one of Releinthi’s newest police lieutenants!”

Kimbere shouted in joy and mobbed Zach with embraces. “Easy with the hugs, Kim,” he said, laughing along with her. Far from never being promoted again, Zach Tyler’s actions back in 1992 had actually served as the launchpad of his new career with the police. Zach was currently an inspector first grade, and he had decided to take the lieutenant’s exam just for the bigger pension upon retirement. Pensions in the FNP were based on rank held by the person, not time spent in that rank.

“So I guess this means you’re taking us out to eat?” Alice asked.

“Of course we are!” Zach replied. “Why else would I even be here? All right, come on, let’s all get in. I know this wonderful Italian place that makes the best pizza I’ve ever tasted.”

As the family got into Zach’s minivan, Zach turned to Alice and asked her, “So, how are your academics?”

“They’re all right,” Alice replied.

“Your term paper?”

“It’s three-fourth finished, Zach.” That was the only thing that Zach thought that he had gone wrong with raising Alice. He had been a little too focused on his work; so focused that even though he had tried so hard to be with her while she was growing up, Alice had grown up a little bit distant from Zach, and therefore she hadn’t really liked to call him her father. The most he could ever get out of her was “Zach.” At least it was better than “him,” or “that guy.”

“How many times have I told you, Alice, that you can call me ‘Dad’?” Zach said for what had to be the millionth time. And yet he always knew the answer.

“Well, maybe, if you hadn’t been so addicted to your work, then maybe you could have been there when I was looking for a father figure,” Alice replied. Right on schedule, Zach thought to himself.

“Look, Alice, don’t blame me,” Zach said as he brought the minivan out of the university parking lot. “Blame the criminals of Releinthi. They’re the reasons why I can’t be around so much.”

“Whatever.” She may be twenty-two now, but sometimes Alice can still be as stubborn as a moody teenager.

“All right,” Zach conceded. “Why the long face?”

“Oh, she’s just mad at her boyfriend,” Kimber replied for her daughter. “You know. Mason.”

“Who was he again?” Zach asked his wife. “Was he the big one, or the wimpy one?”

“The big one, Zach.”

“Ah, yes.” Zach remembered now. Mason was Alice’s latest boyfriend. At least, he was the latest one that Alice had allowed them to know. Zach didn’t particularly care whether Alice wanted them to know about her relationships or not; just that none of them ever hurt his daughter.

“What happened between them?” Zach asked Kimber, since it was obvious that Alice wouldn’t want to be talking about it herself.

“Oh, there was this girl that was making these cutesy faces on Mason during their American football game,” Kimber said despite a silent ‘no’ from Alice. “Alice, who’s going all out cheering for her BF, sees this girl going all gaga for her boyfriend, so after the game, Alice walks up to Mason and they have this fight. Alice tells Mason that he’s encouraging the other women in the university, and Mason replies that it’s his natural charm. Naturally, that doesn’t go well with your daughter here. So they shout, they bicker, and then Alice just slapped Mason and walked away. Immediately after, she went to my office and told me all about it.”

“Mom!” Alice protested. But the damage had been done. Zach was already laughing at his daughter’s romantic mishaps. She may be adopted, but her problems were still the family’s problems too.

“Look, Alice,” Zach said as he stopped before a red light, “if Mason really loves you, then he’ll apologize to you. But you also gotta apologize to him too. Mostly for slapping him, but also because you doubted him.”

“Really, Zach?” Alice asked. “You’re going to give me life advice now, after all these years?”

“Hey, I have to make up for lost time, right? Anyway, after a day or two, either he apologizes, or he doesn’t. But whatever the case, when he apologizes, you have to apologize, too.”

“Whatever.”

The light turned green, and Zach set his foot lightly on the accelerator. “All right, Alice,” he said. “It’s your choice if you want to listen to me or not.”

“See, Zach, this is why you should have tried to stay with Mom and me just a little bit more,” Alice replied. “Would we be having this conversation if you had told me that when I was younger?”

The truck came out of nowhere. Well, in reality, it had come from the right side of the intersection, but from the point of view of the Tyler family, it really did come out of nowhere. It was all over in a matter of seconds. Zach was mostly unhurt, although he could feel bruises all over his body. He tried to get away from the airbag that had automatically deployed during the impact, and he finally managed to get out of the minivan. He turned his head to look into the van. Both Kimber and Alice were unconscious. Zach was more worried about his wife; understandable, because she had been sitting on the side where they had been hit by the truck.

“Help!” Zach called out. “Someone help me!”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been two weeks since the accident. The driver of the truck, though he tried to run away from the scene of the crime, had been caught soon after, and he confessed to having been the one who crashed the truck into Zachary Tyler’s minivan. He had tried to beat the red light because his delivery was running late.

The good thing was that Zach and Alice were okay. The bad news was that Kimber had fallen into a coma because of the crash. Both of them didn’t take it easy—who would? The only thing they could do now was wait for her to wake up.

Alice was at home today. It was a Saturday, so she didn’t have to do much of anything. She was just walking around the house, restless, when she felt her cellphone vibrating. She took it out of her pocket and answered it. “Hello?”

“Hey, Alice, it’s Milla,” the person at the other end said.

“Oh, hey, Milla,” Alice replied. Milla Katz was one of the few people who held the honor of being Alice Tyler’s BFFs.

“Look, Alice, I know you’ve heard this thousands of times already,” Milla said, “but I have to say it again: I’m sorry about your mom. I really honestly hope that she wakes up soon.”

“Join the club, Millie,” Alice said.

“So, you doing anything today?”

“Nothing much, actually. I’m watching the house today because Zach’s working at the PD again.”

“Who was Zach again? Oh, yeah, your dad. Why’s he working right now?”

“That’s how he rolls, Milla; he works whenever the situation’s too hot for him to handle.”

“Okay, now I think I understand why you don’t really want to call him your dad.”

“Hah!” Alice snorted, lifting up a glass of vodka from Zach’s “secret” supply. It wasn’t so secret when everyone living in the house knew where it was located, was it? Alice also suspected that Zach knew that she was tapping his supply, but either he was too afraid to bring it up, or he just didn’t care. Probably the latter, Alice thought.

“So, Leo and Chester’s got a gig in Miroslav’s, d’you wanna come?” Milla asked. Miroslav’s was the name of a bar that was a regular haunt of Releinthi State students.

“I’m not sure, Milla,” Alice replied. “It’s just two weeks since the crash.”

“Maybe it’s exactly what you need to cheer you up,” Milla replied. “You’ve been cooped up in your own shell ever since you got out of the hospital. Maybe you should go out. Just this one time, Alice, please. Things haven’t been the same since after the accident.”

“All right, all right, Milla,” Alice said, putting down the glass on the fireplace mantle. “I’ll see what I can do.” Alice ended the call and then called up her list of contacts. She settled on Zach’s number, and her finger hovered over the touchscreen while she thought about what she was about to do. She pondered not telling Zach about the party, but eventually she called him. He deserved to know where his daughter was going to go, even though she wasn’t really his real daughter. Alice knew that she had been adopted by Zach and Kimber, although she didn’t know the part about her biological father being a long-dead drug dealer.

“Well, this is a surprise,” Zach said when he picked up. “Usually I’m the one calling you. What’s up?” Suddenly he heard a thud. “Alice, are you okay?” Zach called out. “Alice! Are you there? Alice!”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zach had rushed back to his house as fast as he could. He opened the door, which had been left unlocked. He looked around the living room, and then he noticed Alice’s cellphone lying on the carpet in front of the fireplace. He picked it up, noting that the screen was showing his contact information. “Alice?” he called out. There was no response.

Zach went deeper into the house, checking out every room in the place. He then went into Alice’s room and searched every corner of it. What he saw was both good and bad, in his eyes. The good news was that he knew what had happened to Alice. The bad news what that it was the second time that it had happened to her.

“Not again,” Zach muttered.

One Loss, One Draw, Still Hope

Skarakians across the nation are still hopeful in their lacrosse team. After two match days in the gorgeous nation of Cosumar, the Eagles are sitting in 5th place in the group with just one point from two games.

GAME ONE: EAGLES DOMINATED
The first game came was a disaster straight from the start, with Britonisea scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. Britonisea proceed then to go on a 7-0 run, with Skarakia finally scoring a goal in the second quarter. Britonisea then went on to score two more goals, making the game 9-1 at halftime. The Eagles played ridiculous defense in the second half, however they found that their opponents were just too good. The game ended 9-4, in favor of Britonisea. When asked about the performance, coach Amadeus Olafsen responded "just not good enough. Next question please."

GAME TWO: BETTER, IMPROVEMENT NEEDED
The second game Skarakia had came against Darvale, who had also lost their first game. Skarakia came out roaring in this game, obviously angered from their last game. The scoring started, and it never stopped with these two teams trading goal after goal. Skarakia took the lead after 2 minutes, with a breakaway by Jerome Wardsson who passed it off to Sean O'Fenn for the easy goal. This goal preceded a 5-0 goal streak by the Eagles, before Darvale scored their first goal at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was dominated by Darvale, who scored 5 goals, and shut down the Skarakian attack. At halftime, the score was 6-5. It was obvious that Head Coach Amadeus Olafsen had to make changes, and changes he made. Skarakia came out with a pip in their step and the third quarter was one of the most exciting quarters of the game. Darvale scored first, just after the opening face-off, making the score 7-5. However, the Eagles came back with two goals of their own, tying the game at 7-7. What followed next was a furious display of shut-down defense and amazing goalie saves- including a save from John Bayern using the butt of his stick! The third quarter ended 7-7

Then came the fourth quarter, which led to massive heartbreak in Skarakia. Skarakia came out swinging, scoring a goal 3 minutes into the quarter, with a rip from the top of the box from Jerome Wardsson. Darvale answered 2 minutes later with a behind-the-back goal, which faked John Bayern out. More shut-down defense occurred until the final minute, where Matthew Paul deked out his defender and slammed home the goal. The Skarakian bench went wild, and the Eagles were sure they had the game won. Skarakia was up 9-8! Skarakia won the ensuing faceoff, and Travis O'Connell proceeded to run the ball into the Darvale corner. As the clock hit 28 seconds, O'Connell lost the ball under pressure, and the Darvale defense scooped it up and flung it down-field. With time winding down, Darvale caught the ball and proceeded to pass the ball around the crease with lightning speed. With 3.6 seconds remaining on the clock, Darvale scored- crushing Skarakia's dreams at 3 points.

"It feels like our hearts were ripped out," said Coach Amadeus Olafsen, "I think we deserved the 3 points today. However, I think we can, and will, build from this and we're looking on to our next game."

"It stings a little bit. The boys have been working hard in the down-time between games. We've been trying to get our chemistry at a good, solid, level. I think that showed, and you can see it from the first game to this last one, and hopefully next one." stated Captain Matthew Paul.

Skarakia plays Waldreich next, who are second in the group, with 6 points.

Skarakia scorers:Matthew Paul(3), Sean O'Fenn(2), Jerome Wardsson(2), Matthew Bush, Travis O'Connell

Cosumar stunned by Jecatria in second game - time to panic?
submitted by bluedude84 -- December 12, 9:24 p.m.

No one expected Jecatria to be easy. They're a top 20 team for a reason, after all. But I don't think anyone expected the #1 ranked Cosumar Dragons to have too much a problem pulling out a full three points against them either. Longtime hero Tracy Sheppard is now 36 and not quite what he once was, however, and this team is learning that someone else will have to step up and deliver in crunch time.

The Dragons suffered a tough 10-9 loss Friday afternoon at CosumaQuest Stadium, watching Jecatria overcome a two-goal deficit late in the fourth quarter and escape the lion's den of Cosumarite lacrosse with a win.

23-year-old attacker Jacques Archambault scored a game-high four times for Cosumar, which falls to 1-1 in Group 1 in their first WLC as tournament hosts. The Dragons also struggled early in their debut against England-Ireland, but managed to pull themselves together and win 13-8 with an explosive second half. It was dismissed as new-tournament jitters. That excuse can't be made against Jecatria.

Cosumar took a 4-3 lead into halftime after back-to-back goals from Archambault ended the second-quarter scoring, and the Dragons eventually bumped the lead to 6-4 midway through the third frame after a pair of scores from Sheppard and Tennant.

But Jecatria battled back, netting two goals (Baptiste, Cosby) in a 72-second span that evened the contest up at 7-7 entering the final period.

The Dragons once again seized a lead after Tennant scored early in the fourth, but the pesky Jecatrians just would not go away. Cosumar managed to kill a pair of penalties in the final quarter, but Jecatria eventually scored at the 3:52 mark to even the score at 9 and again with 1:25 remaining that ultimately won the game. The 60,000 blue-clad fans on hand at CosumaQuest left disappointed.

Goalie Wesley Hill made a nice save with 2 minutes left to keep the game locked, but the Dragons turned the ball over on the ensuing clear to give possession back to the hosts. Baptiste made them pay and tallied the game-winner shortly thereafter.

Cosumar finished with a 30-25 shot advantage, won 14 of the 20 faceoffs and forced 18 Jecatria turnovers to help overcome 5:30 in penalty minutes. Midfielder Ivar Kalessin dished out a game-high four assists. Sheppard, the team's leading scorer for the past several WLCs, added two helpers to accompany his one goal.

Still remaining on our group phase schedule are Estenia, The Kytler Peninsulae and German Zerabithea. We may be the tournament favorites, but advancing to the 12-team playoff is far from guaranteed. One of the unique quirks of the World Lacrosse Championships is its short group phase, and as a result, how easy it is for Cinderella teams to get hot and make a run. Or conversely, for skilled but overconfident teams to get unlucky a couple times and miss out completely. Estenia and The Kytler Peninsulae are capable squads. If the Dragons don't play significantly better, they might just be left to watch the knockout rounds from the couch while other teams are playing in their own home stadium.

Now that would be embarrassing. This potential reality hasn't quite sunk in for most of the fanbase, it seems. I saw a couple guys on the #CosumarWLC IRC channel chatting about Quarterfinals matchups for Cosumar.

Wake up guys. Before Cosumar was the world's #1 ranked lacrosse nation, we had to knock off some top teams to force our way into the knockout rounds. Now that we are the current king of the hill, everyone else is trying to knock us off. What makes you think an up-and-coming team like Jecatria or Estenia can't do to us what we did to the likes of Sarzonia and Mytannion? Don't forget what it was like to be the underdog team. Don't forget the power of that inner drive to prove all your doubters wrong.

Went to my first WLC game last night! Super fun!
submitted by HolmenkollenGirl -- December 12, 8:45 p.m.

Hi Dragonlacrosse.cos! I'm a 13 year old girl from Holmenkollen, Ramusok. I'm a huge fan of lacrosse and started playing it myself last year. I was so excited when I found out Cosumar was hosting the 20th World Lacrosse Championships, but I started freaking out even more when I heard some of the games would be played at Bonner Field here in Holmenkollen!

That's literally five minutes from my house.

So last night, my dad surprised me with an early Winter Solstice gift: tickets to a game! The Dragons aren't playing any games in Holmenkollen unfortunately, but it was still awesome to go soak in the atmosphere at one of the big games! The game I went to was Skarakia vs. Darvale. I was rooting for Darvale because I did a project on their capital city (Fairbanks) for Geography class. Also, their colors are prettier and Esportiva seems like a nicer place than Osiris, where my dad said Skarakia is.

It ended up being a really fun game! Skarakia started off winning 5-0, but then Darvale scored a bunch to make it 6-5 at halftime! Wild! I went bonkers and celebrated with some nice Darvalian fans sitting behind us when they scored with 4 seconds left to make it a 9-9 tie. My dad doesn't even like lacrosse (he's a football guy), but even he had fun! I want to practice lacrosse more so I can play in the WLC someday and be as good as some of the players I saw like Sean O'Fenn and Matthew Bush.

I asked Santa for tickets to another WLC game, but don't tell him I told you :)

MD3 Preview: Those f******* Estenians will be mincemeat to our Dragons!
