For countless generations - perhaps for as long as travelers were willing to dive to the depths of their memory - the Gamma Quadrant has carried with it a reputation of hazard - if not outright horror. Be it as a site of innumerable battles of cosmic preponderance, or - as was, for a time, more likely - the crawling hive of eldritch and otherworldly vectors which loomed like gods in the black swathes between the stars, the region of space sometimes arbitrarily determined to sit in the north-west quarter of the Galaxy has, on more than one occasion, served as ample inspiration for the drug- and alcohol-addled minds of the surveyor, miner, speculator, wayward adventurer, mad prophet, and free trader. Yet, within the last decade, that has grown to change.

After the inexplicable disappearance of not merely the vector fleets of the dreaded Pathogen - also known as the "Rethast Pathogen" - but also the nomadic, star-consumer neo-feudal hegemony of the Ciehne Abrahene (otherwise known as the "Ikrahk"), the Gamma Quadrant became the latest victim of an even more potent and virulent threat which, until now, had spared the abyssal quarter of the Galaxy from its contamination. The Gamma Quadrant, in a word, has fallen victim to civilization; at least, some semblance of it.

With the last scrawling epistles of the mad prophets of the horrors which once befell the Gamma Quadrant falling into obscurity, if not having been outright destroyed by the factions and ventures within galactic civilization that has taken it upon themselves the mantle of such a crusade, beyond the deeply classified and confidential reports of those stellar nation-states which were so unlucky as to witness them first-hand, all that remains to deter the entrepreneur and the tilted free trader from seeking fame and fortune in the Gamma Quadrant is a few, disparate reports and the ever-more-embellished drunken fairytales of their kin in age far superior.

Of course, as with any instance of civilization, the prospect of wealth, power, territory, and discovery has driven it to expand to fill this void of cosmic ignorance with the enlightenment of its own bias and causes. Within the heart of the more entrenched worlds of Gamma Quadrant, stellar empires such as those found within the Totalitarian Systems Absolute Regency spar and struggle with the ever-expanding investment- and capital-driven hegemony of the Raumreich and the Alpha Centauri Accords; yet, newer stellar regimes - like that of the sun-worshipping Uthani - now claw and scrape at the blackness that once held them at bay, pushing into regions of space once held beyond their grasp by the terrible foes which had called such sectors home. Even so, these dramas have played themselves out since even before the great vector squadrons of the Rethast fleet began their march to the gilded gates of the Alpha Quadrant.

It is along the periphery - the border regions - of the Gamma Quadrant, often more rimward than not, that the new fortunes and new highlights of fame are to be found. Even yet still, while certainly the pressure from the Alpha Quadrant into this new frontier is hearty and driven, it is the eternally expanding stellar states of the Delta Quadrant that have seemingly taken initiative. All along the Gamma-Delta divide, small single- and several multi-system confederations and coalitions - unions of miners, prospectors, rogue traders, and all manner of spacer ilk - have been founded within but the last decade, generating pockets of intensely profitable trading outposts, mining depots and settlements, and even the rare, sparsely populated habitable world - seeds for a new generation of colonization and conquest.

These small empires, built on the blood, sweat, and desperation of their denizens, serve as the entry-points - the bridgeheads - between the ever-more bloodied battlefields of Delta and the yawning unknown of deep Gamma. They are the frontier towns and railroad settlements of the mythic and legendary "Old Terra" given new life amongst the stars. Of course, like their spiritual ancestors before them, the frontiers and hinterlands of civilization are fraught with dangers and hazards and horrors - both seen and unseen, known and unknown, new and old.

It is to one of these small, frontier states - a "prospector's haven" - that the cosmic eye now turns. A small, seven-system mandatory settlement called the Avaikan Mandate, settled along and controlling (through a modest defense force and a far-more experienced collection of mercenary firms and their mining, prospecting, and trader benefactors) a trade route spur known as the "Avaika Spur". The Avaika Spur stretches from the Amphina System to the Avaika System, which in-turn serves as a final waypoint between the hardened worlds of the Delta Quadrant and both the vast and innumerable dark stars of Gamma and the far more entrenched, greater investment and capital-turnover ports of the primary Gamma trade lanes, connecting the heart of the Sol Belt to the outer fringe of the Gamma Quadrant.

The Avaika Mandate, little more than a confederation of competitive interests finding mutual benefit in the semblance of civilization they call a "mandate", is - by far - mostly little more than a string of systems with traffic monitoring stations, mining outposts, artificial satellites, stations, and blasted and rocky worlds. Even so, the alignment of these systems serves a purpose; the purpose of conveying the brave (or mad) of Delta through Avaika and into the heart of darkness itself. Of the total amount of territory under its dominion, the Avaikan Mandate hosts but two truly "inhabited" worlds: Avaesia in the Avaika System, a naturally habitable, terran world just now becoming marred by the demands of industry which seek to supplant its otherwise viridian expanses and serving as the capital of the Mandate itself; the other is Tavoss IV in the Tavoss System, a rocky and barren terrestrial - like its three, star-ward siblings - which has, within the past three years, initiated an expansive (but troubled) terraforming operation.

Beyond these small semblances of life taking hold, the systems of Alavain, Khradur, Nemon, Orphain, and Amphina remain. Though each, no doubt, serves a purpose along the road of the frontier, each are but diminutive specks compared to the mandatory capital and Tavoss IV. Even so, it is to a small, barren world in the Amphina System that the eyes of history first turn: Amphina II.

Specifically, time and space now come to stall and focus on a small bit of land - a mining outpost turned traffic monitoring station - on the barren and gray-black surface of its home. The cosmic eye of perspective turns to focus and gaze upon the carbon scoring and ruptured metal from which screams a single, repetitive, emergency distress beacon.

Welcome to the Gamma Frontier.

Unexpected Guests: An Introduction
Necessary Information and In-Character Thread
First and foremost: there will be death. There will be fire. There will be fiery death. Secondly, for those of you who do not know, this is the new main account of Kyrusia. Yes, this is Kyru.

Now that we've got that over with...

This roleplay is going to be slightly different than most "introduction threads". How will become apparent in time, but I obviously don't want to spoil things. If you haven't gathered, this means that there is an actual plot in place with a (somewhat) set beginning and a (somewhat) set end; obviously things will be subject to change based upon the actions of the characters involved, but I do have a general idea of - in the least - how things will begin and how things will come to a close. After all, this is an introductory thread, so the entity in question has to get a bit of screen time.

That being said, the genre I might classify this roleplay as is that of a mystery. On the Gamma-Delta divide, due to the absence of the "dragons" in the "Here Be Dragons" trope as of late, prospectors, free colonists, and the simply crazy have begun to encroach into the proverbial "wild quarter" of the Galaxy. This hasn't been going on for long, but as I see it, the Avaikan Mandate (and the free colonies in general) first started to get traction within the last decade. As indicated, this roleplay will be taking place within the Avaikan Mandate: a loose confederation of small settlements, founded by free colonists on the world of Avaesia in the Avaika System, growing to include six further systems with increasingly diminutive centers of population.

The Avaikan Mandate, further, constitutes what has become known as the "Avaika Trade Spur" and, as described, is a fairly new and recently potentially highly profitable venture for free traders, corporations, and stellar nation-states - in addition to the wild pirate or two. The territories of the spur are filled not merely with rich mineral resources, high-density HII regions, and stellar bodies which could potentially serve as ample sources of lifted coronal matter, but also with a myriad of small, mercantile stations and seasonal trader settlements which ebb-and-flow in size based upon prevailing market conditions between the Gamma and Delta Quadrants.

At least, that's what the Avaika Spur was known for.

Rather abruptly, however, the rather constant - but modest - flow of traders, resource freighters, miners, etc. which flowed through the Spur into and out-of Gamma has been disrupted. A superluminal distress beacon originating from the second terrestrial body in the Amphina System, Amphina II, has been switched indicating to any nearby parties that assistance is required. The only information that is available is provided by an automated broadcast system, seemingly indicating that much of Amphina II - or, at least, Monitoring Outpost Number Four (a major traffic control and relay station in the system, comprising at least two surface floors and four sub-surface floors) - has fallen to a calamitous incident. By all accounts, Monitoring Outpost Number Four may be destroyed, with the potential for survivors being slim - but not zero.

Of course, this poses a problem: Monitoring Outpost Number Four served as a major traffic monitoring and control station in the Amphina System and served as the primary entry point to the Avaika Trade Spur. Its apparently compromised state is, as a consequence, going to inevitably stall trade to the Avaikan Mandate and, further, the flow of trader and commercial traffic between Gamma and Delta.

Players are, therefore, urged to create characters which would fit archetype for individuals which would be affected by this or otherwise likely to investigate a distress beacon of such magnitude. This means players can craft an entourage of their choosing: be they free traders, a corporate group, or even a forward scouting party from another star-state. All I ask is that, first, players do not bring in more than three vessels and none of major military capacity. By the time this roleplay begins, understand that it has only been an hour or two since the distress beacon was first activated, meaning unless a player provides a fairly legitimate (and story-appropriate) reason for a massive military convoy to be in the area, I'm likely not to approve it.

Further, as I have already stated: this thread will involve the death of characters. So, adjust yourself accordingly, but understand: you are likely to be "in over your head", so to speak, when the glove gets thrown. I will not be being particularly kind in this roleplay; understand that I'm not going to willie-nillie go around killing characters, but I'm not going to lie and say that all of the characters players create will survive. Act accordingly and bring an assortment of meat-shields and cannon fodder. I, of course, reserve the right to some degree of executive license as the original poster of this thread, but I'm not out to butcher everyone's creations; just understand that the theme of this roleplay will be that of "going into the unknown" and all the dangers that accompany that situation.

Lastly, this roleplay is by application or invite only. Further, I have extended at least one invitation to a player whose identity, for now, will remain obscured for the sake of plot. So, if you see someone posting that hasn't applied, check the player list and you will likely find their name there and unobscured.

If you have any questions, feel free to send a telegram to this account, my main account (Kyrusia), or drop by #NSLegion as I am usually available there. Otherwise, information about specific locations as players travel along the spur will be provided via exposition in the In-Character thread. Remember not to get in a rush, in all likelihood you will get to explore much of - if not all - of the Avaika Trade Spur before the end arrives.

Thank you, and have fun, and remember: keep your friends close, or you'll have to make new ones.

Player Account: The Poinsettia Confederacy (by way of the Primareliqua) Azura

Primary Reason for Location: What is known in galactic circles is referred to as the 'Avaika Trade Spur' is known in the Primareliqua as Tenebris (the Darkness). It is customary for newly-commissioned line officers of the Sidusclasse to begin a deployment in this sector as part of their formal shakedown cruise; thus the relative proximity of the Explorator Vessel Ferociter.

Cannon Fodder Count: Ferociter — Compliment of twenty deck officers, fifty enlisted crew and twenty Praereptors (marines) / Navicula Ferociter — Compliment of ten enlisted crew. Comprehensive compliment of one hundred total personnel.

Vessel Name: Explorator-class Ferociter of the Primareliqua Sidusclasse and its Runabout, the Navicula (Ferociter).

Vessel Description: The Ferociter is an Explorator-class scout ship of the Sidusclasse, the smallest superluminal vessel in the Turma Nauibus sector, and the fastest. What it lacks in armor and weaponry, it makes up for in stealth and speed; it's maneuverability and dual-FTL/impulse engines make it adept for reconnaissance and exploration. The Navicula Ferociter is the Commander's runabout vessel, a small transport ferry that is magnetically tethered to the parent ship that may be utilized for atmospheric insertion.

Character Name: Commander Lynom Caen, Poinsettia Exsul Auspex

Character Biography: Cmdr. Lynom Prévost Caen is the newest commissioned officer to the Sidusclasse fleet of the Primareliqua, a space-faring star system in Gamma Quadrant. Caen however is not a citizen of the Primareliqua by birth, but is instead Progeniem to the Primareliqua as one of the survivors of the cataclysm twenty years prior that destroyed the Poinsettia Confederacy in Delta Quadrant, long-remitted descendants of the Primareliqua. Caen's command of one of the last known Poinsettia refugee ships led directly to restored contact between the long-lost peoples, and made him a prime candidate for the Sidusclasse's conquests to engage in rapid expansion beyond its stellar boundaries. Seasoned by the 'long silence' endured by the Poinsettia holocaust survivors, Caen is particularly capable despite his status as an outsider to native Primareliquai, but the calm veneer hides a startling discontent and severe mental issues which threaten his hold on reality.

Note(s): I am currently developing a character that would become a 'subordinate-main' to the Caen character; once his/her characterization is complete, I would add it to the application if permissible.

Player Account: -The West Coast-
Primary Reason for Location:

A team of guides and surveyors returning to the Mandate after a successful mission deep in the Gamma Quadrant investigating the ruins of JSA space stations for clients from a multi-system corporation. They all hail from a group of systems taken over by the nascent Universal Confederate League.

Cannon Fodder Count: Thirteen (13) cannon fodder characters.
Vessel Name(s): C.S. Wages of Sin, C.S. Opera of Violence
Vessel Description:

C.S. Wages of Sin is a medium sized ship that is mainly used for salvage operations but has been modified slightly so that minor weapon systems could be added or taken off depending on the mission. It can accommodate seven (7) crew and has a large cargo hold and two levels; one for the crew accommodations, mess hall and sickbay. The other is for the pilots. Capable of FTL travel.

C.S. Opera of Violence has a slightly smaller cargo bay, in favor of more weapons systems onboard. It can accommodate seven (7) crew and has one and a half levels. One level accommodates the crew, the mess hall and the sickbay and the half level accommodates the cockpit and pilot’s quarters. Capable of FTL travel.

Character Name: Micajah Copeland
Character Biography:

A disenfranchised soldier banished from his home planet during a coup d’etat that sent the government he served into exile. He wandered the galaxy for years, hopping from station to station, wallowing in misery and self-pity until he stumbled upon a haven fortune hunters and salvagers. There he found other men from his home world that were exiled as he was during the coup. Together they formed a company of fortune seeking surveyors that searched the endless reaches of the Gamma Quadrant for resource rich planets and ruins of past civilizations to sell their locations to the highest bidders.

They hoped to use the money to return to their home world with an army of mercenaries to restore the former government to power. Ultimately, the company fell upon hard times and any dreams of retaking their home turned into just that; dreams. He took his company to the Avaikan Mandate where he heard of prosperous work that inspired him to rekindle the ideas of retaking his home world. There he now resides, working as a guide and a surveyor for corporations and nation-states alike.

Player Account: Telros

Primary Reason for Location: Investigating the Gamma Quadrant to gain a better idea for the potential of further expansion.

Cannon Fodder Count: Forty-seven enlisted men and women, with twelve commission officers.

Vessel Name: The Shrike-class Explorer, the FSSS Omen

Vessel Description: The FSSS Omen is a rather small vessel of four hundred and twenty meters in length, a compact design which was made by the FSS to explore areas of the galaxy where it would not, or could not, send any civilian or corporate contractors to. It comes with an advanced sensor suite, deployable UAV's to collect more data and information, as well as a small smattering of weaponry: four railgun batteries, two missile arrays, and the PD system to guard against projectiles and missiles. Along with these weapons, it has two F-18 Scimitar Interceptor squadrons, one G8 Caldera Bomber squadron, and one C-39 Viper Scout squadron.

It has an angular, sloped architecture that marks it as decidedly human in its design, to further increase its defense against explosives and kinetics, with deployable ablative armor 'sheaths' to further increase its defense. It's armor is thicker than most for a scout ship, which makes it slightly slower than most of its role, but it is capable of surviving more because of it. The FSS flag is painted on both flanks, with the name and designation put on the ship near the front.

Character Name: Captain James Riecker

Character Biography: Captain James Riecker is one of the younger commissioned officers in the Federal Navy, having been in the last major wave of military expansion the FSS conducted to counter increased activity by the Conclave back home. He joined out of patriotism, like many other Solarians, but also out of economic pragmatism; his father was out of a job, his mother was a sickly woman and had been most of her life, and they just didn't have enough beyond the state welfare to keep them going week to week. To better all of their lives, he joined the military.

He scored high on his exams, putting him on the fast track to officer training once he completed basic and served for two years. He attended the Rejkevik Officer Academy on Kretoric, making many of the contacts he now knew from his classes and training there. Upon graduation, he was given a Captain's bars and given the beginner's role to test himself on, that of the Shrike-class Explorer. He had been commanding it for just over a year when the call had come for the Icarus Expeditionary Project, and he was selected to be part of the force to enter the Milky Way Galaxy. He had done so with pride, helping to scout out the areas around the initial colonization zone, when tragedy had struck with the Gate being ordered closed from the other side by the Prime himself, as some calamity struck the FSS. The expedition was on its own and now in crisis, as it struggle to survive with basic supplies. With the Sub-Prime galvanizing their forces on the only effort that could save them, conquest of inhabited systems, the new HIGHCOM had sent him into what was known as the Gamma Quadrant, to consider other targets and avenues for their nation to grow and expand to cover their needs.

And it was during this mission that Captain Riecker would come across the situation of Amphina II and rushed to investigate.

Player Account: OMGeverynameistaken

Primary Reason for Location: The Russian government likes to poke its nose into things, particularly when potentially valuable economic regions are involved. Plus, it's an excuse to get Admiral Haus out of the way. The pioneering of potential trade routes with Gamma quadrant settlements is also a notion which has been entertained, although it was only recently that the admirality recalled that it had a handy expendable ship to deploy.

Cannon Fodder Count:
221 Enlisted men
30 Officers
51 marines
312 unfortunate souls in total.

Vessel Name: Admiral Popov

Vessel Description: A spherical battleship design produced privately by a Russian noble as part of a patriotic contribution to Ivan IX's unification of Sol. The design typifies the phrase "innovation is not always progress," featuring, among other features, turret rings around the length of the ship which cannot be rotated without causing crippling nausea to the gun crews, a prototype polymer armor which went into production prior to testing, meaning that the fact that it degrades when exposed to UV light was not detected until the ships were deployed, and a futuristic internal layout of excitingly chunky but extremely un-ergonomic chairs, all mounted in a command pod outside of the ship's main hull.

Its theoretically formidable armament of five 11" guns is somewhat hampered by the fact that the ship is unable to fire more than two of them in a single direction at once without risking seriously compromising its structural integrity. Further the polar gun rings are supplied with ammunition from the central magazine, meaning that their crews tend to spend a lot of time waiting on the munitions elevators.

Finally, given that her assignments are generally far from anything like a proper shipyard, Admiral Popov has not seen a refit in roughly twenty years. Currently, her main boilers are held in place with string and prayers.

One area the ships do not fall short in, however, is endurance. With prodigious claudia bunkers and large supply stores, they are capable of independent operation for years, if only because their crews have become adept at on-the-spot repairs.

Character Name: Admiral Leonid Haus

Character Biography: Admiral Haus was born to a well-to-do family of Austrian nobles, serving a brief but exciting career in the navy of that nation before applying to join the imperial fleet. Then-Captain Haus proved an able commander, performing well during the intervention in Assyria, and achieving promotion to admiral in the course of the campaign on CC-01 ('Tartarus,') where he was promoted on site after the death of the fleet's commanding officer at the hands of an outsized crab. Due to his unorthodox ascent, his political leanings went unnoticed until he took it upon himself to, in the middle of a Novo Petrograd social gathering, suggest to the General-Admiral of the Fleet that conscript sailors should be given separate berths, organic foods and allowed weekends off when in port.

Admiral Haus was quickly and quietly reassigned to the Outer Colonial Patrol and Exploration Flotilla, consisting solely of the Admiral Popov and her compliment of fighter craft, only one of which is presently in working condition.

Note(s):
Image!
http://i.imgur.com/qqNwbuA.png

While only 220 meters in diameter, its spherical design gives it a pretty huge mass for its 'class.' Note that this is an 'idealized' rendition because I'm too lazy to draw in the many, MANY hull patches, hastily repaired bits, scrapes, dings and minor hull breaches nobody's bothered to fix because they don't use that deck anyway.
I AM DISAPPOINTED

Postby Nyte » Sat Nov 22, 2014 12:37 pm

Player Account: Nyte

Primary Reason for Location: Due to the simple fact that the Interstellar Empire of Nyte is located on the border of the Gamma and Delta quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy, the majority of commerce undertaken by the empire naturally occurs within this region of space. As such, The Red Queen was already en-route to the area upon picking up the distress signal... Dumb luck really...

Cannon Fodder Count: 11 officers, 62 regular crew. The total number of personnel will be 75 including the two named characters.

Vessel Name: The Red Queen

Vessel Description:
Image
The Red Queen is a medium sized fifth generation merchant frigate with the Cambion Merchants Guild based out of the planet Dispayre in the Interstellar Empire of Nyte. While somewhat dated, The Red Queen carries a moderate armament for a vessel of her type; although it should be noted that these are not military grade weapons systems, although for the most part, she has been well maintained and is in fairly good condition for her age.

While her systems, equipment, and armament are somewhat outdated in comparison to those used by the Interstellar Empires military vessels, they should still not to be underestimated as they are quite potent despite their age and non-military nature. Besides her armament of 3 turreted particle cannons, 2 light railcannons, and a fairly extensive CIWS system consisting of 10 turreted pulse lasers, the Red Queen also carries a small, unarmed personnel shuttle, an unarmed cargo transport; as well as 2 small mining and repair pods to allow the crew of the Red Queen to engage in a variety of different operations.

Character Name: Sara Foste

Character Biography: Sara Foste has been the captain of The Red Queen for a little over five years now; having taken a job with the Cambion Merchants Guild after spending several years as a junior officer in the empires space navy. Leaving the navy for the more lucrative offer from the Cambion Guild, she's spent the last five years amassing a moderate fortune, not only for herself, but also her crew and the Cambion Merchant Guild as well.

Young and attractive, with long red hair, ice blue eyes, and a heart shaped face, Sara is the object of the lusts of many of The Red Queens male crew; a fact that she is well aware of and barely tolerates. Sadly for them, it is a poorly kept secret that she is also romantically involved with The Red Queens Chief of Security.

Character Name: Horus Kader

Character Biography: A fairly recent addition to The Red Queen's crew, Horus quickly rose to the position of the ships Chief of Security. While many of the crew resent the man, and believe he attained the position due to his not so secret relationship with the captain, he is in all actuality more than qualified for the position; having spent two five year terms in the empire's army where he gained some distinction for both his skill with a blade, and his ability to keep a calm and level head while under fire.

Morrow grimaced as he let off a burst from his laser rifle at the horde of abominations pouring into the room. For good measure he followed up with a grenade from the under-slung grenade launcher as well and smirked as several of the creatures were blown apart in a bloody spray. Dodging a swipe from a large bony appendage from the larger monstrosity, Morrow catapulted himself over a damaged console and neatly bisected one of the smaller creatures as it was in the process of being sucked out into the void; his chainblade tearing through its flesh with a meaty growl.

Advancing slowly towards the larger creature, Morrow ducked as what was left of one of second squad’s marines was catapulted violently through the air at head height; the legless corpse sailed through the air, only to collide violently with a wall before being sucked right back out through the ruined window leaving a trail of fresh blood in its wake. “Dammit” Morrow cursed. “Second squad focus fire on the small ones… Push them back out of the room and close the damn bulkhead door in their fucking faces.”

While Morrow continued to issue orders the larger creature occupied itself with shredding another of second squad’s marines with its four clawed arms. While the creature was busy mutilating the corpse of the dead marine, Corporal Winters charged in shield first, and ducking under an appendage he slammed into the beast and triggered his shields flachette launcher into the mass of tentacles writhing about the creature’s chest.

While the creature was occupied by Winters, Morrow mag locked his laser rifle to his power armor and grabbed three of the five plasma grenades attached to his waist. Setting the grenades for time delay, Morrow looked up just in time to see Winters get slammed into one of the rooms consoles with enough force that his armored bulk slammed through the terminal’s outer casing. The terminal itself was nearly ripped from the floor as nearly eight hundred pounds of Nytelord practically shot through it like an oversized bullet.

As the creature moved in to finish off the fallen Nytelord, Morrow hurtled himself forwards; letting off a burst from his shoulder mounted Evicerator Chaingun to get its attention. The armor-piercing shells tore into the creature’s side tearing through necrotic flesh and severing one of its bone tipped appendages in a spray of acidic gore. The beast turned with a muted roar only to have the now airborne Nytelord Sergeant collide chainblade first with its ruined chest. The toothed blade quickly chewed through ruined flesh and broken ribs until it lodged itself into the creature’s spine with a high pitched whine as serrated teeth met warped bone.

Using his chainblade to maintain his position, Morrow slammed his off hand down the creatures ruined throat; his armored fist pulverising the creatures long hooked tongue, and shattering its jaw with a spray of deformed teeth and bone fragments. With a twist, Morrow pulled the pins on the trio of grenades, and allowed the creatures erratic writhing to catapult him across the room as he lost his grip on his wildly bucking chainblade.

Skidding across the floor in a welter of sparks, Morrow slammed into a pile of mutilated Karaigian corpses with a grunt. Slightly dazed from the impact, the Nytelord Sergeant looked up at the monstrosity with a sadistic smirk and raised his left hand where three pins dangled from his fingers. “Say hello to my little friends you ugly motherfu-“ he started before the grenades detonated with a slightly muted crump. The explosion virtually vaporized the monster as it was immolated from the inside out.

As Morrow shakily stood up, the sounds of violence finally died out as the last of the horde of abominations finally fell to the punishing barrage of gunfire from the remnants of the Nytelords, and second squad. Making his way over to a fallen marine, Morrow reached down and pried a Force Lance from the marine’s lifeless grip. Having found a suitable replacement for his lost chainblade Morrow looked about at the remains of the room. Shaking his head at the thoroughly trashed and blood stained room Morrow turned and limped towards the door.

“Someone get me a fucking sit-rep” he growled. “I need casualty reports and an ammo count… Also, somebody wake up Winters… Now is not the time for a nap. We’ll regroup at the elevator and make our way back down seeing as this place is pretty much fucked.” As he approached the door, Morrow opened a channel to Kellion. “Kellion, Morrow here… We’re vacating the control room. We ran into some err, difficulties, and the place is pretty much trashed beyond use. We’re regrouping at the elevator for now. Is there anything else on this level that might be of some use?... Morrow out”

Heredor Lunar Shipyards
Interstellar Empire of Nyte
0200 Hours

Conrad Curze looked out upon the expanse of the Heredor Shipyards from within a darkened chamber located deep within the bowels of its immense superstructure; located within the mostly hollowed out moon Heredor; Nyte's single angel satellite. Outside of the floor to ceiling view port, the immense spherical expance stretched onwards for hundreds of miles, broken-up only by thousands of miles of scaffolding bristling with heavy construction machinery, and dozens upon dozens of ships in varying stages of construction, refit, or repair; their ugly grey forms glistening dully under the high-intensity lighting spread liberally on and around the many scaffolds, although even with these lights much of the expanse was still wreathed in shadows; not that this mattered much to the Nyteborne who had no problem seeing in the dark.

From deeper within the darkened chamber, one of the many shadows detached itself from the wall and moved forwards to join the Emperor at the view port. As the figure came closer, it coalesced into a large, ornately armored figure wearing onyx colored power armor. Stepping up beside the Emperor, the figure reached up and slowly removed its skull-faced helm. The man that was revealed was ghostly pale, with a fine stubble of silvery-white hair upon his head. He was not a handsome man, and likely never had been; even without the network of scars that criss-crossed his worn, gaunt face.

Looking out at the shipyards for a few moments more, the man broke the silence that had otherwise consumed the chamber as he tilted his head and addresses the Emperor. "It is an amazing sight lord, but what, if I may ask, draws your gaze so?" ...For a moment there was silence once more until at last Curze looked away from the shipyards, and turning to face the man he replied; his voice hoarse and rasping as if from disuse. "Hmph... Amazing Markus?' Curze chuckled, although there was clearly not a single hint of humor in it. "Do you know what I see when I gaze out this window Markus? ...Death, Markus, all I see is death, stretched onwards as far as the eye can see" Curze finished with a hiss before turning back once more to gaze out the view port.

For a short while it was silent once more until suddenly Curze turned and started walking away. "Walk with me Markus" he commanded as he drew closer to the door which slid into a recession in the wall with a slight swish...

Heredor Lunar Shipyards
Interstellar Empire of Nyte
Several Hours Later

It was a nondescript hallway; one of perhaps a million similar hallways carved into the very rock of Heredor itself. Curze, Markus, and the shadows that were the rest of Curzes' honor guard made their way steadily down the hallway towards a figure leaning casually upon an ornate walking stick. The man appeared elderly with a worn, somewhat wrinkled face bisected by a single diagonal scar that stretched from just over his left eye to the right side of his jaw. At Curzes' approach the man turned, his shoulder length silvery hair swaying at the speed of the movement. Ice blue eyes; faintly glowing in the gloom glowered accusingly at the Emperor as the man spoke. "You know, I was just starting to enjoy my retirement, and then you had to go and reactivate my commission and order me up here... There better be a damned good reason for this shit... I'm getting too old to be galavanting about half way across of the empire."

Curze simply chuckled before replying as he came to stand next to the old man. "Indeed I do Lucian, indeed I do. However, we're still missing one last member of this little reunion, however I do believe that would be him there" Curze finished, pointing down the hallway. Both men turned to look at the figure steadily making its way closer, both for their own seperate reasons saddened by the sight of what had become of the man who had at one time been one of, if not the finest soldier in the history of the empire. "Victor? ...Victor Morrow" the old man asked, stunned at the sight of what his old comrade had become, or perhaps moreso at the fact that he was even alive still.

The man; Victor Morrow, formerly a Nytelord Sergeant, appeared quite monstrous; and far more a machine than a man, and so the shock was not surprising to him. He grinned mirthlessly, the action pulling at the scar tissue that now encompassed most of his once handsome, roguish face as he turned his one remaining eye upon the old man; the other eye, lost long ago to a massive, furred razorfiend, was covered in a simple looking, nondescript black eyepatch. Limping heavily, Victor joined Lucien and the Emperor, the unnaturally loud wheezing noise of a pair of artificial mechanical lungs added background noise to his reply. "Lucian Krevash" he wheezed... "How have you been you old bastard?" He rasped out bitterly... "You seem shocked, why however, I don't know... The last we saw of eachother, I was a mutilated wreck; one who should have died, and you... Well, you were off to your brand new command with a shiny promotion and a few more medals for your chest..."

Before Lucien could reply, Curze cut in. "Enough, I called both of you here for a reason... Come" he said as he began to walk once more. "And stop making it seem worse than it actually is Sergeant, we both know, you and I, that your not nearly as disabled as you like make yourself out to be." With that they moved on at a steady pace, walking silently until finally, abruptly, Curze stopped them with a raised hand. "We're here" he said as he turned and pointed out a nearby view port. Outside, its ugly, predatory grey form looming heavily over the group, was an Ark Class Battlecarrier. Upon the titanic vessels flank, in bold, slightly slanted white lettering was a single word: Scylla...

"The Scylla?" Lucien stared out the view port, confused, and just a little bit stunned... "I thought they retired the old bitch... Hell, she's even older than I am."

Morrow simply chuckled in amusement at the older mans discomfort, not even paying any attention to the massive ship just outside the window.

"And you'd be right" Curze replied. "She WAS retired, but as with both you and Morrow, she's been reactivated... Although she's had a bit more time to reacquant herself with military life." Turning away from the ship, the Emperor turned to face both men. "A... Situation has arisen, one that requires handling by people who have experience in working both with, and against alien forces..."

Curze began to pace slowly about the hallway as he continued. "While it has not yet been made known to the public, as of five days ago, we are in a state of open warfare with a foreign power." Curze sighed as he continued. "Lucien, you're one of the few ship commanders still alive who has experience in working with alien races, and I feel that we will need that experience... THAT is why I reactivated your commission. The Scylla was originally intended to be the solution for a VERY different problem, but I do believe she'd be better put to use as your flagship."

Turning to face Morrow, Curze continued. "As for you Sergeant, the Scylla has need of a commander for its compliment of Nytelords, and while you may be laboring under the belief that you are no longer capable of being a soldier, I disagree... So you may consider this to be your wake-up call." Curze chuckled at the sour look that appeared on Morrows face as he said this.

"The both of you will find further orders detailing the mission aboard the Scylla. You'll find that your old command codes will work once more, and they'll allow you to activate the sealed orders I've left for you both... You have two days to familiarize yourselves with your orders, the ship, and your new crew, after which, you'll rondezvous with the 11th fleet, along with both task forces 3 and 17. From there you'll make for the edges of Thelzan space where you'll hopefully meet up with our allies in this war; a race calling themselves the Raw'Hein." With that, Curze began to walk away, only to pause for a moment. "Good luck, and good hunting... To the both of you."

The Nostromo System
The Far Side of Heredor
Two Days Later

Few people, including the majority of those within the military where aware of the two hundred and seventy-three ships gathered in orbit on the far side of Heredor. Gathered covertly from all corners of the Interstellar Empire, these ships had made their way swiftly, and quietly back home to the Nostromo system, only to be quickly resupplied and made ready to fight a war; the first real war for the empire in nearly a century. Their preparations complete, the ships quickly assumed formation, and for a moment, they simply seemed to blur as if distorted by some unseen force, until with several hundred synchronized flashes and a massive discharge of energy, they were simply gone...

Several hours later, the news would finally be broken to the people of the empire... Once more, after decades of relative peace, there was WAR!

Eon Cule flexed the fingers of his simulacra’s left hand as he slowly made his way towards the Voidseekers bridge. He felt… Numb, for the lack of a better word, and while the simulacra was functioning perfectly as it always had the numbness never seemed to go away. Stopping in front of what appeared to be a seamless grey wall he spoke a single word; seemingly to the empty air. “Open.”

With a hiss a small hole appeared in the middle of the wall. The hole grew rapidly as if being devoured by some invisible creature with a voracious appetite. Stepping through the newly revealed door, Eon Cule walked slowly into the room; paying no attention as the wall simply sealed itself once more behind him. “Brother” he said, addressing the empty room. “Why have we left System 199356? Our survey of the system was not yet complete.”

The reply when it came was simple, and to the point. “Music…”

Twitch… Twitch… Went Eon Cule’s left hand… “Music, brother? Elaborate?”

“I detected an unknown signal approximately thirty-eight hours and seventeen minutes after the survey of system 199356 commenced. Further examination of the signal has revealed it to be of Nezon origin. The signal itself was badly corrupted, however a partial reconstruction of the signal revealed… Music… Shortly after that, an additional message was detected emanating from the same source. Translation of this message is still underway; however it appears to be a mixture between a general hail, and a distress signal.”

There was a short pause… “We have arrived. Detecting Eldar and Galaclanian vessels in system as well as a station of Nezon design. Should we hail?”

Eon shook his head and replied. “No, unless they prove hostile or attempt to contact us first ignore them. You brought us here to investigate this Nezon signal so that is exactly what we will do. Find us an entry point to that station, and notify the others to meet me in the armoury” Eon replied as he turned and exited the bridge on his way to the armoury.

If y'all want to go ahead and start working on your first posts, feel free; the first round of posting I'm going to let fall to initiative and then we can slot people in as necessary. Most of the info you would need is implied (or directly stated) in the context of the IC thread, but if you have any questions - specifics about the Outpost, Amphina II, etc. - feel free to drop me a line or find me on the IRC. I understand Thanksgiving is coming up for most of us, so don't feel too pressured right now; I fully expect for things not to really take off until sometime toward the end of next week, so it's not a big deal.

Player Account: Kiith Federation Expeditionary Force (Feazanthia)
Primary Reason for Location: Eight-month resource survey and “economic good will” mission undertaken by the Norastuu-Iik'li'thek Conglomerate for the Somtaaw government. Mission statement - To ascertain presence of potentially valuable isotopes and strategically placed potential allies to both safeguard the Aiowe colony and establish a counterbalance against the Huerdaen Star Empire.
Cannon Fodder Count: Two officers, five enlisted, one diplomat, 24 “glofka-pokda” humanoid security drones, eight “wodaanda” combat drones, all sorts of various crunchy noncombat drones
Vessel Name: Ro-Loytaa
Vessel Description: A surplus Somtaaw Kassar-Ro series mothership maintained by the Norastuu-Iik'li'thek Conglomerate. Hastily designed and deployed during the Collective War, the Ro-Loytaa is nearly three centuries old and two generations obsolete compared to modern Expeditionary Force technology. Nevertheless, she maintains a modest armament of anti-ship lasers, point-defense laser clusters, and anti-ship missile launchers (though her supply of equally obsolete KL.1 “Hyokataa” missiles is extremely limited) and her defense field radiators are aftermarket and modern. She sports a modern molecular fabricator, and her fusion reactors were upgraded shortly before being deployed to the Bezakpartlaawa. Supports a complement of numerous surface and extra-atmospheric drones, as well as two shuttles for its crew of ten (plus two passengers).
Character Name:
-Jak'phi (Retired) Somtaaw Bashtet uln-Seefra – a former Jak'phi, Bashtet uln-Seefra is one of the few who left his Kiith's military before standard retirement, and did so under circumstances which remain classified. He took a job commanding one of Norastuu-Iik'li'thek's deep-space survey vessels, and was selected to head the Gamma Frontier mission.

-Iukikina of the Mar'tik'thee – ship's navigation expert and Bashtet's second-in-command. Despite strong family ties to the Mar'tik'thee's own multistellar corporation, Iukikina took a short-term contract with Norastuu-Iik'li'thek for the Gamma Frontier mission as a way to see the alien Bezakpartlaawa; though a proven navigator with hundreds of days of logged on-duty time, rumors persist she used her close “association” with a board member to land the executive officer position. Fortunately, she and Bashtet get along famously.

-Somtaaw Hooshman uln-Kamedi – private security contractor for Norastuu-Iik'li'thek. Responsible for safeguarding the Ro-Loytaa's crew outside the confines of the mothership, and oversees the ship's complement of glofka-pokda and wodaanda.

-Somtaaw Rastineh luun-Mahudaawa – government diplomat attached to the mission.

Player Account: I AM TUTUKIKU THE VICTOR! (Huerdae)
Primary Reason for Location: The team is a set of Huerdaen prospectors and pirates that operate nearby. They generally do not attack targets, but instead loot what remains after, taking their time. This instance, however, provides a perfect way to get away clean, with some better-than-usual loot. Officially, they operate under license from Bir'Dothi, a Huerdaen firm.
Cannon Fodder Count: 13, for a total of 16 members of the salvage team.
Vessel Name: I.A.C.S. Yui, a modified Monitor-Class Armored Shuttle
Vessel Description: The Yui is a Monitor-Class shuttle modified similar to many Roc-Class dropships are modified into Blackbird-Class gunships. It carries two large rocket pods, one on either side containing a total of 80 antimatter warheads in total, as well as a turreted Hades-Cannon nose gun for suppression near the surface. Much of the internals have been removed, and it operates as a high-speed dropship instead of a shuttlecraft. In addition, a salvage crane and tackle gear has been added to the rear, allowing it to 'tow' larger loads of valuables, or load cargo containers used by the I.C.S. Clementine.
Vessel Name: I.C.S. Clementine, Junk-Class Freighter
Vessel Description: Clementine is a stock Junk-Class Freighter. One of its cargo containers is used to store salvage gear, and it is often left with only a single pilot. It is unarmed and used only to store and move what equipment has been gained on salvage runs.
Character Name: Maniiku Shiyuri, Team Leader
Character Biography: Maniiku Shiyuri is an experienced bounty hunter, having spent much of her younger life seeking heads. Notably, she's one of the few Huerdaen Kitsune, though her demeanor is nothing like what would be expected of the species. Instead, she is grim and determined as any Huerdaen would be expected to be.

She prefers to command from an aloof position, a fact that often gets her called 'lazy'. However, it also keeps her out of the fighting until she knows what she is dealing with. On several occasions this has allowed her to rescue the team from harm, or abandon them, making the team oddly appreciate their handler more than their leader. She is, however, particularly capable with an Akki shoulder gun, and she carries the Nogitsune wakizashi she inherited from her father after his life was lost in battle.

Character Name: Ahl'Jhaddor, Corporate Team Handler
Character Biography: Like many team handlers, Ahl'Jhaddor has little to no direct control over the team. However, unlike many of them, he is a veteran of Militia service, and only transferred to team handler after the loss of his left arm, which he could not properly replace one his existing salary. Like many in such a position, he went for the less expensive prosthetic replacement, classifying himself as a Heavy Augment in Huerdaen society. However, it is sized properly for him, allowing him to function as a part of the team. In addition, it carries a concealed Cerberus weapon within it. It is clearly augmented, and the arm has the black-metal appearance across the skin of most Huerdaen heavy augmentations, making no effort to appear organic.

Because of this history, he is sympathetic to the team's health and status, making him probably the most ideal handler for a salvage team. Unlike most in his position, he has earned the team's trust and acceptance, and possibly even respect, despite his dual loyalties to the team and the overseeing corporation.

Character Name: Kara'Jodauli, Corporate Militia
Character Biography: The odd one out of the bunch, Kara is a Huerdaen with a flair for the dramatic. Far from the most experienced, and not even the one in charge of the small, three-man corporate militia team, Kara uses powerful, if somewhat odd weapons. Using the Prometheus Tek-Bow as her primary weapon, she keeps a fallback of a pair of Hellfire SMGs modified to include butt-stocks so they may be fired (albiet wildly) in a single hand each. She is a girl from the trade station Mannaul, and she has never yet set foot upon a planet's surface. She is a new addition to the team, and full of piss and vinegar. She has enlisted as a member of the Corporate Militia only four months after reaching the age of fourteen, when it was first legal. However, she spent a fair amount of time in training, and almost a year posted with the current team has her at the age of 16. Despite the lack of action, this has not decreased her enthusiasm.
Roleplaying Samples: Battle at the End of the Universe, Monochrome, Sever Tomorrow

Just to get some information out of the way that isn't as apparent in the OP: Any entourage with a degree of knowledge regarding martial matters should be able to note fairly quickly that the source of the destruction on Amphina II is likely of non-natural origins. At least on the surface level, Outpost No. 4 is pretty well wrecked, but if you arrive within the four hour timetable the beacon gives, it should still be venting oxygen out to the surface and through its rubble of hull plating, pressure plating, armor, and concrete super-structures. Further, indications of damage across Amphina II's surface is quite evident in rather high-density clusters; craters will likely indicate the remains of other outposts, small trader settlements, etc. - each more equivocally destroyed than No. 4 and no others beaming comms, signals, etc. Lastly, and feel free to use a bit of creative license here, but there are likely to be a few small stations in Amphina II's orbit - again, showing similar signs of damage as the surface.

If you have any further questions, feel free to telegram me or find me on Legion.

Player Account: The one posting this

Primary Reason for Location: Freighter convoy escort reassigned to emergency response duties.

Cannon Fodder Count: Redshirts, few hundred of them.

Vessel Name: Akash

Vessel Description: (Image enclosed) Class designation; Wolf, assault and escort vessel. 150 meters in length and 225 souls aboard. Akash is a fourth generation sub-capital combat vessel. She represents the current leading edge of Technocracy shipyard designs. The vessel itself has been in service for just over a hundred cycles, though only a handful have served on her for as long. The smallest class of combat vessel rated for solitary operations, Akash is not a stranger to venturing into the deep void alone. She has seen all manner of things durring her time in the vast darkness, but such is the nature of the life of a starship. Her current captain is a female with less than scrupulous morals.

Character Name: Ship Commander Malka
Character Biography: A female S'kan, Malka is one of the few who has served on Akash since it's construction. She has worked her way up the ranks over the cycles through a combination of ruthless efficiency and determination. Her primary concern is to advance her position at any cost. A deep seated distrust of others has been a blessing and a curse. Keeping a step ahead of her competitors at the cost of never developing any true friendships. Her time spent both in maintaining the vessel as well as operating its systems lending her an overall knowledge of what is now her vessel. Her command was acquired almost a decade ago when the former captain perished as a result of a Rite of Challenge. Since then she has used her intimate knowledge of the vessel and it's officers to take advantage of her position whenever possible. Conducting illicit cargo siezures when the mood suits her.

Character Name: Circle Speaker Aziz-Itzal
Character Biography: A male S'arr, Aziz-Itzal is a relatively new member of the crew, assigned to the vessel just over a decade ago. He has served on two vessels prior, the last was crippled in battle and summarily decomissioned. He holds the rank of Circle Speaker, roughly equivalent to the captain in terms of level of authority. It is his duty aboard the vessel to handle diplomatic affairs, acting as a representative of the Technocracy as well as overseeing administrative affairs aboard ship. In short, a political officer. This however, as of late, has become a means to further relatively new designs to advance his standing before retiring comfortably. Raised in the Mystic Caste, Aziz-Itzal was born with psionic talent. While naturally gifted, developing his talent was never his primary goal in life. For many cycles he simply went along with the motions, settling into a career because he couldn't decide on anything better to do. That is, until just under a decade ago.

Character Name: Garrison Master Senka
Character Biography: A female Dooninra, Senka is also one of the few that have served on the Akash since it's construction. Her original post was as a grunt soldier. Keeping the peace and serving on the front of the firing line when needed. A fierce warrior with a sharp mind, Senka took advantage of her heritage and adopted the Shadow Arts at an early age. Applying what she learned to augment her combat training. Weather through exemplary performance or filling dead mens shoes, she rose through the ranks at a steady pace. Her driving goal is to one day command a vessel of her own, and while she is not above using underhanded tactics, she prefers to keep her hands clean of such affairs for simplicities sake.

Pending.

The two highlighted sections above concern me somewhat. The first part (your crew compliment, totaling ±300 persons) is concerning, but not in a "deal-breaker" sort of way; namely, I understand that different players have different levels of automation and advancement, allowing for sometimes vastly different requirements in regards to service personnel. Up until this application, the highest approved personnel count is around ±100 personnel. Don't take this the wrong way, but it is also - admittedly - from someone I have previously roleplayed with extensively and have a greater experience with in regards to play-style and expectations. I can handle a crew compliment of this size, though, were it not for the second highlighted portion.

I understand that drones/fighters might be a thing with some vessels - even a few "shuttles" - that people aren't wanting to count amongst "ships" for the sake of the limit of three ships per player for this roleplay. Unfortunately, these two combined in comparison to the currently approved applications... are a bit beyond what I'm willing to accept.

That being said, your roleplaying samples are quite good and I would quite enjoy your participation in this roleplay due to that, and because I have seen you quite active in TLC.

So, here's what I'm willing to do: I would like for you to adjust your crew compliment to be in scale with the other approved applications; this means, more or less, I'm willing to work with a compliment ranging from anywhere between 10 personnel and, say, 125 - based upon the description you have provided for the Red Queen. I'm willing to grant a bit more leeway if it is absolutely necessary, but not much more than that. Secondly, and I must be honest here in saying that I am going to have to grant less wiggle room in regard to this (not to say I won't grant any, but certainly less), but I'm going to have to ask you to do one of two (maybe three) things (as I see it) in regards to your compliment of shuttles and repair ships: either remove them entirely, or shrink the compliment size to otherwise fit within the three ship limit. Meaning, in short, that the Red Queen could, say, carry an atmo-capable shuttle and a small repair ship (so the Red Queen + a two ship compliment).

The only other potential option I see is adding one or two more vessels, but not as a compliment to the Red Queen and removing her compliment entirely. If you choose this option, I could see your total crew count (for all three) in total easily approaching between 100-175 personnel (maybe a bit more) if the two other vessels are smaller than the Red Queen (but still larger than her compliment volume permits). This would allow you to have at least one craft, in some form, which is atmo-capable - plus a tertiary vessel of your choosing.

So, I'm going to set this application for "pending", as I've said, for a couple of days and see what you figure out, then come back and re-review it and see where we are. As I said, try and scale your application to within a degree or two from the smallest (around ±10 personnel) or the largest (around ±100 personnel) and adjust accordingly. This way we won't potentially end-up with balance issues as the thread progresses, but everyone still has a chance to have their cake and eat it, too. I'm always willing to work with people on restrictions I put into place, but they have to have a degree of balance relative to the prevailing sense of scale in the thread and I have to have some give on the applicant's end for the sake of the integrity of the thread.

Edit: Also, compare your application to Telros'. He has a compliment of strike craft that I've permitted... But also look at his crew compliment. There's a balance between those two numbers. If you'd like to retain some shuttle or repair ship compliment for the Red Queen, while still scaling, you might consider doing something similar to his own ratio.

Crew compliment lowered to 75 (including my 2 named characters) as I do see your point in comparison to the other apps.

Now here's my question. I've cut it down to 1 unarmed shuttle with a crew capacity of about 12 people. 1 small unarmed atmospheric capable cargo transport (the Red Queen is a cargo ship, and she needs a way to actually pick up cargo as she's not able to enter an atmosphere). I've also cut it down to 2 of the mining and repair craft (which are basically the size of a fighter craft, and like the shuttle and cargo ship, they too are unarmed). Now, in comparison to Telros' four squadrons of combat craft, would this be acceptable?

May we combine with another player? In other words, if I don't want to bring in my tech, may I supplement another person's crew?

Considering the roleplay samples you have provided, I am much more comfortable approving this revised application than its original. I appreciate your compromise. Approved.

Swith Witherward wrote:[snip]

All righty. As per your telegram (and question here), I'm just going to go ahead and answer this question here in the event someone else has a similar question.

I have no problem with one player having their own characters be aboard another player's vessel, but this means that the player with the vessel in question must submit an application of his own (which must be approved), and the player with participant characters hitching a ride must also submit an application for said characters (which must be approved).

So, 'Taxi Player' must submit an application with characters of his own, the vessel, etc. which must go through the approval process, and the 'Passenger Player' must submit an application with characters of their own (indicating in the appropriate field that they intend to be hitching-a-ride with another player and said player's account name) which must go through the approval process as well. Also, for the sake of balance, this means that ship counts might be merged (so that each players, for the sake of the narrative's restrictions, count as 'one player' and thus may only be allotted 3 ships plus a drone or two or a shuttle, etc.), but that will ultimately be dependent upon what I see in the applications in question.

If you find that arrangement acceptable, Swith, I'd be more than happy to have you and Cer involved.

Red Talons wrote:[snip]

I am considerably more comfortable with this revised application rather than the original; the amount of crew and its compliment of Marines are still a tad high for me, but not beyond what I feel comfortable admitting given what experience I do have with you. That and as per our lengthy discussion yesterday evening, mostly. Approved.

As an aside, applicant's should understand this before they get involved, and while I have made it rather plain in the OOC introduction, I will now say it here - bluntly: You are being thrown into a situation that could readily turn into a gauntlet. Because of the constructed narrative in question, when I am looking at these applications, I am not merely looking at them in a vacuum; I am reviewing the player's history, reviewing my experiences with said player, reviewing the player's application in comparison to the others, reviewing the player's application in comparison to the narrative, and reviewing the application with a certain idea in mind for balance in regard the that particular player's strengths and weaknesses. So yes, some people will get more wiggle room than others; that's a part of one of the obstacles that, unfortunately (due to this medium), must be implemented as an Out-of-Character restriction.

If you want the reasoning behind this, review this quote from the OOC introduction: "[R]emember: keep your friends close, or you'll have to make new ones."

This got brought up in another discussion with another player, so I'll say it here as well.

The Avaikan Self-Defense Corps maintains traffic flow into the Avaika Trade Spur through the Amphina System, which happens to be where the distress signal is coming from. Players with characters that have been up the Spur before should know this already and would presumably prepare to have their traffic diverted to one of several picket check-points across the system which allows ASDC craft to give an at least cursory glance, manifest check, etc. before they travel up-spur. As players arrive in the Amphina System, if they have been there before, they would likely immediately note the lack of ASDC craft presence in the system as well as an apparent general breakdown in security and traffic, in general, spare those parties responding to the distress beacon. In this way, the system is virtually quiet, spare the aforementioned station and settlement wrecks and the beacon itself.

Again, feel free to send me a telegram or find me on IRC if you have any further questions.

Edit: For those whom are unfamiliar with Wolf-Rayet stars. This means that Amphina I, Amphina II, etc. are planets quite distant from Amphina (the star) itself, due to both its considerable mass and its exceptional stellar wind. The system itself is quite... "stout" insofar as natural hazards (extreme ultraviolet, soft X-rays, etc.), so take this into account. Why, are you wondering, did they set-up the entrance to the Avaika Spur in a place so hostile? Because the general luminosity of Wolf-Rayet stars make them exceptionally easy to locate.

Player Account: Storm Gard
Primary Reason for Location: Acting as one of the many trade missions of the Charis Guild promoting trade between the Realm and the galaxy at large, the Wind Dancer was slated to stop within the Avaika Trade Spur, pick up their bi annual mineral shipments before making their journey back into the Realm.
Cannon Fodder Count: 30 Various security and crew personnel

Vessel Name: Charis Guild Ship Galley Wench.

Vessel Description: The Galley Wench is a Surefoot class freighter with its hull heavily modified to carry extra cargo, a quad of powerful Brillant Nova class engines, a single chin mounted light gun and a single twin linked turret. In addition, the Wind Dancer also carries a external arm for loading and salvage duties.

Character Name: Captain Maxwell Yan
Character Biography: Maxwell Yan is the latest in a long line of Yans to captain the Galley Wench. As the sixteenth generational captain of the Wench and the twenty generational head of the Yan clan, he knows every nook and cranny of the Wench and can make the ship execute movements that are seemingly impossible for a ship of the Wench's size. When not behind the controls of the Wench, Maxwell is a highly adaptable individual and like most freighter captains, has a splendid eye for profit.

Character Name: Knight Johann Gambert
Character Biography: Johann Gambert is a newly minted Knight of the Realm belonging the Order of the Unbroken Shield, bringing with him all the skills and responsibilities of such a position. More than a little headstrong, and brimming with the almost foolish bravado of someone who has never seen a battlefield, Johann prefers to leap sword first into any situation, trusting in his faith and more importantly his battle armor to protect him. Whatever failings in his foresight however, Johann is superbly skilled warrior and is particularly adept in wielding his high frequency blade Heartseeker, often employed beside his veritable arsenal of guns and explosive instruments.

Player Account:
Tarsas (Roleplaying the Tetheri Republic, a Gamma Quadrant Nation)

Primary Reason for Location:
The Tetheri generally patrol trade lanes with small, lightly armed scout frigates who flag problem areas and are armed enough to deal with the lone pirate raider. The primary design of the vessel, however, is to spot trouble and send word home. The primary defensive system of the frigate is the engine, which allows it to escape quickly.

Cannon Fodder Count:
The frigate has a crew of fifteen, two officers and the remainder are bridge crewmen and engineers. There are also ten marines on board to handle vessel security.

Vessel Name:
TNS Iliad

Vessel Description:
The Virtue class frigate class consists of sixty small, lightly armored patrol frigates. Each is identical, powered by two nuclear pulse engines that can provide very quick bursts of speed. The primary armament consists of fifteen missile tubes, one heavy gaser, and six light gaser turrets for taking on smaller vessels. All are lightly shielded and cannot hold up long under direct fire from larger vessels but can take punishment from light fighters and other small ships. The vessel possess a fairly advanced softkill countermeasures suite but do not have the hardkill option of larger vessels as to conserve space and keep size down.

Character Name:
Captain Andreus Felmore

Character Biography:
Andreus Felmore, a young Feltgore (think Kajiit), grew up on the colony world of Byzalora, in the colony that shares the same name. His parents were some of the second wave colonists. He left home at eighteen and jumped on a freighter back to Tetheri Space where, after working in a dive cantina on the capital world, he enlisted in the Republican Naval Armada when he was twenty. Assigned to the patrol division, he spent the next ten years of his life on patrol frigates across the Gamma Quadrant keeping pirates off of trade lanes and enforcing Republican law. On his 30th birthday, he was stationed at Byzalora on leave aboard Cendak Station when it was attacked and destroyed by a nuclear firestorm from an unidentified ship. After watching his family and his entire homeworld burn, he requested to be put on active duty again the day after the attack. Before that was permitted, he went through six months of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome counselling. After that, he was rotated back onto patrol duty in order to attempt to track down those responsible while continuing patrol of trade lanes. He often still suffers from bouts of rage and panic attacks when he's alone at night. Serious doubts about his ability to remain level headed have emerged on this, his first voyage after the destruction of his home.

Note(s):
I might develop other characters, but you can still kill them off. It'll make it that much more tragic. Also, I only had one FT RP I've done so far as I'm relatively new to the community but you'll be able to get an idea of how I write off of the FT and MT examples together.

Player Account: Rethan
Primary Reason for Location: The Agency is keeping tabs on large swathes of the Gamma Quadrant due to its history with...unpleasant things. They always send a cursory eye whenever there's any kind of distress call.
Cannon Fodder Count: 2
Vessel Name: Sadatoni
Vessel Description: A small, standard issue personal transport for an Agent. Designed primarily for speed and discretion, it's barely 50m in length and does not utilise newtonian propulsion. The ship's hull is designed to bend EM radiation about itself through SCIENCE to help avoid detection - though it is not perfect. Armed with a spinal DEW and some impressive shielding, but not much else. It's a glorified personal transport for getting to places quickly and quietly.
Character Name: Sadatoni.
Character Biography: Sadatoni is one of the very few true human Agents, most Agents simply being transferred into a human body. He has been with the Agency for six years and as is standard for Agents has detailed memories of his pre-Agency life removed and stored until his retirement. Sadatoni joined the Agency when they investigated an Order related anomaly on his home world and he assisted the deployed Nullifiers in tracking down the threat - and eventually removing it. Wanting to protect his home from further Order incursions, he left the system with the Nullifiers when they departed. Although he doesn't remember the faces or names of his family, or the name of his world, he does remember that protecting it is his motivation.

During his time with the Agency, Sadatoni has acted as a 'Discerner'. He spends most of his time travelling between suspected Anomalies of Interest and deciding whether to escalate the matter to involved Nullifier or Purifier deployments. His only companions are his two personal Nullifiers, as Sadatoni maintains little contact with the Agency except when contacting his handle regarding mission reports and assignments. Sadatoni has only encountered the Order once since joining, and was responsible for ordering the sterilisation of three life bearing planets in a single system after failing to correctly read the situation and delaying Nullifier deployment. As a result, he has a habit of getting too involved with local civilisations during his evaluations as opposed to viewing from a distance as is the standard MO for Discerners.
