Eastern Asian Languages in Your Nation
(Any dialect of Chinese counts for this thread.)

Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?

Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?

Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?

What percentage of your population speaks
- Korean
- Chinese
-Japanese

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?

Unisheya's answers
Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?
None of those languages have official status in Unisheya
Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
Chinese & Japanese are widely spoken but not as popular as Korean
Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
There are a couple scattered communities of Eastern Asian immigrants in Unisheya.
What percentage of your population speaks
- Korean (68% of Unisheyans speak Korean)
- Chinese (12% of Unisheyans speak Korean
-Japanese (15% of Unisheyans speak Korean)

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?
Korean is a very popular choice for a second language in Unisheya because of Unisheyan's roots. Japanese and Chinese are not as popular because they are considered somewhat complicated.

Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?
Japanese is a language taught to TurtleShroomer diplomats because of our relations with the former Greater Imperial Japanese Dystopia. About a third of TS diplomats are fluid in Japanese.

Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
Japanese is not spoken in TurtleShroom outside of schoolhouses' elective courses and in embassies where diplomats learn the language.

Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
TurtleShroom has a healthy Oriental population because of the massive exodous of persecuted followers of religion from Japanese Dystopia, which also controls the majority of China, all of Mongolia, parts of Siberia, and most of southeast Asia. They are assimilated into TS, so they don't really count. Only the first-generation immigrants speak those languages.

What percentage of your population speaks these languages?
One percent (ten million souls) can speak fluent Japanese. Almost all of these are immigrants or government employees.

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?

Korean, Chinese, and Japanese in Your Nation

Postby Parhe » Fri Nov 21, 2014 8:01 pm

Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?
Korean is one of the nation's four Tier One Official Languages. Several foreign dialects of Korean are also counted as Tier Three Official Languages. Japanese is one of the nation's ninety two Tier Two Official Languages; the variant differs from Standard Japanese and is a Hichiku dialect. Cantonese, Dungan, Foochow, Gan, Hainanese, Hokkien, Hong Kong Cantonese, Jiaoliao Mandarin, Jilu Mandarin, Jin, Northeastern Mandarin, Shanghainese, Sichuanese, Standard Chinese, Taishanese, Tanka Yue, Teochew, and Wu are Tier Three Official Languages, of which 561 exist. Hakka and Hunanese/Xiang are also spoken.

Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
Korean and Japanese, both being native to the country, are extremely popular and spoken by the majority of the population. The various Chinese languages have combined about twelve million native speakers, or about .7% of the total population.

Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
Large for all in terms of absolute size. Proportionally, however, the Chinese speaking community is small.

What percentage of your population speaks Korean, Chinese, and Japanese?
98.37% Korean, 76.14% Japanese, 0.8% Chinese

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?
Korean is taught and is mandatory. The official Japanese of the Holy Parhic Empire as well as all officially recognized Chinese languages are offered as foreign language, the former is popular while the latter is now.

Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?
Yes, Japanese is one of our official languages, along with English and Russian.

Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
Japanese is widely spoken in Gandoor, due to it's status as an official language.

Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
The Japanese speaking community in Gandoor is very large, once again due to it's status as an official language and our large population of Japanese ancestry. The Korean-speaking population is a lot smaller and there are very few, if any, Chinese-speaking people in Gandoor, for whatever reason.

What percentage of your population speaks Korean, Chinese, and Japanese
Japanese: 91.4%
Korean: 19.3%
Chinese: 2.1%

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?
Korean is the most commonly taught foreign language in Gandoor, due to the fact that the Korean language is the most common non-official language spoken in Gandoor. Chinese is rarely, if ever, taught or offered as a foreign language due to it's unpopularity. Japanese, obviously, isn't offered as a foreign language because it isn't one.

None of these languages have official status in Valkalan.

Do Korean, Chinese, and Japanese have official statuses in your nation? If so, which ones?
The only official language is Wu Chinese, of the northern Wu variety. The standardized variety is based on the Suzhou dialect. All citizens and expatriates are required to be fluent in the official standard variant of the Northern Wu Chinese language.
Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
Chinese dialects are widely spoken and is the native language of the population of Wuyiuih Kaonnoe. There are also many regional dialects, which are not limited to: Dialects of Northern Wu Chinese, Huizhou Chinese, Xuanzhou Wu, Southwestern Wu (Chuzhou, Wuzhou, Raozhou and Quzhou) Chinese, Taizhou Chinese, Oujiang Chinese, Min Bei Chinese, Min Gan (Shaojiang) Chinese, Min Dong Chinese and the Changdu, Yingyi and Huaiyue dialects of the Gan Chinese language. The regional dialects are all recognized at the county or provincial level. There is a non-official regional Chinese dialect called Jianghuai Mandarin, and its use is outlawed and considered to be a highly degenerate patois spoken by the lower classes.
Korean is not as widely spoken as Japanese when it comes to foreign languages.
Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
There are large communities of Chinese speakers since they are indigenous locals. There are sizeable expatriate Japanese-speaking and Korean-speaking populations.
What percentage of your population speaks
- Korean <1%
- Chinese 100%
- Japanese 1-5%

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?
Korean, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese are learned as foreign languages. Knowledge of Northern Wu Chinese language is considered to be a mandatory subject in schools. Recognized regional dialects are also required knowledge depending on the district or county.

All three languages are national languages of Aikoland.

Are either Korean, Chinese, or Japanese widely spoken?
All three languages are widely spoken, due to the fact that our country is a union of Japan, Taiwan, and Korea.

Are there small or large communities of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese-speaking people in your country?
Our entire population is of Korean, Chinese, or Japanese-speaking people, considering the above.

What percentage of your population speaks
- Korean 47%
- Chinese: 21%
-Japanese 56%

Are Korean, Chinese, and Japanese learned as a foreign language in schools?

Considering that they're the national languages of Aikoland, no. However, schools in each part of the nation are required to teach the languages spoken in the other parts. (So schools in Taiwan have to teach Korean and Japanese, Korean ones have to teach Chinese and Japanese, and Japanese ones have to teach Chinese and Korean)
