Possible redirects to virus downloads

Postby Shalotte » Sat Nov 01, 2014 5:41 am

I don't know if you already know this, but while browsing NS I've suddenly started getting redirected to pages like this: http://i.imgur.com/gb0KcbY.png

My virus scanner flipped its shit when I accidentally clicked on it as I wasn't paying attention decided to investigate further for science. There's another one about updating Flash, but I couldn't get it to pop after the first time so I don't have a screenshot.

This only seems to happen on the game-side pages; I can't make it happen on the forums (or at least, it's not happening at present), nor has it happened on any other websites I've visited.

I'm running a couple of scans on my machine as we speak (clean so far) just to be sure it's not on my side, but I thought I should let you know.

That behavior is consistent with your computer being infected.

I tend to recommend Avast Antivirus as my antivirus. If avast says your clear, then try getting malware bytes too. One of those two should be guaranteed to pop up a virus somewhere on your computer. Malware Bytes catches some of the things virus programs don't.

He said it was only happening on this website, which sort of rules out an infection (as a virus would not discriminate against sites).

I've experienced the exact same thing as he has anyway. Norton says I don't have any viruses.

This has happened to me, but only on my brother's laptop, which has adware and malware up the butt anyways. It actually happened again when I tried to log on with it a few hours ago, and effectively rendered the game unplayable.

It really doesn't rule out viruses/scamware. He thinks it's only happening on this one website. In reality it's a local problem on your machines. If it weren't, this thread would be so much bigger.

Just because your scanners don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. I'm willing to bet you both have spyware/crapware installed on your computer that is directly connected to this.
