Hi! Welcome to the 13th edition of the Handball World Cup, the premier competition for the sport of team handball. 40 teams in this edition will play for the title that everyone covets but only one will get. Nations will play a double round robin in 8 groups of 5 with the winners and runners-up advancing to the Round of 16. Cutoffs should be between 3:30PM and 5:00PM US Central Time (although cutoffs on weekends should be significantly earlier, between 10:00AM and 12:00PM Central Time), although this might be changed, as oftentimes my homework schedules is not known in advance, but I will try and cutoff in this window every day.

Polarian handball returns to the world scene suffering from something of an identity crisis. Despite having an olympic silver medal in years gone by, and possessing one of the biggest and most prestigious leagues in the Multiverse, not to mention the hordes of people who take part and who are avid followers of the sport at home, they've jut never had success at club or country level on the international stage. Time to change that.

HOME - AWAY

Polarian handball is fast and furious. The attack is devastating on the quick first break, with the wingers in particular likely to score far more goals than you might expect from a regular game. The backs and pivots are adept at breaking up play in defence and launching attacks, though less secure in their own possession at the other end when it comes to finding space for a shot in second or third phase attacks. Assuming you've not just intercepted it, the defence is incredibly strong when in formation. Which is just as well, as goalkeeping is not traditionally a Polarian speciality...

Yes to all permissions aside from killings, and yes to all yellow/red card issues, except to Vojta Zjukowski, keep him clean of two minute suspensions please.

Nickname: Hand Slaves

This is the team that competed at the last HWC, except all slaves have been liberated due to team advancing out of group stage.

Since nobody in Gregoryisgodistan knows how to play handball, the sports federation decided to buy slaves and use them as a team last HWC. In exchange, the slaves would be liberated after the tournament if they make it out of the group stage, but executed if they finish last in the group. A third or fourth place finish would result in continued slave labor in other tasks. The team made it out of the group stage, so the slaves were liberated but remain on the team.

Also, the sports ministry decided to be cheap and buy the cheapest slaves, so some of them are old, young, or handicapped.

We will play our home games at the District 30 Gym, in District 30 Ward 19, which is home to the only handball court in the country outside the Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone. Temporary bleachers will be brought in to make 115 seats, of which 15 will be available to fans of the visiting team and 100 to Gregoryisgodistan. The seats will be allocated by lottery if it does not sell out, and winners will be forced to attend or be executed along with their families.

In a break from the usually insulated policies of the sports ministry of Friskney Eaudyke, the country has sent a team to an international tournament. The Minister for Sport said that the tournament "would show off Friskney's sporting credibilities to the world", and has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he is the head coach and that his son and a few of his mates make up the team, who all want to go abroad and get drunk, all funded by the government. Saintland has a very rough style of play and very few fouls in our national league, so don't hesitate to card Sanctii players, especially if Saintland loses. Handball is roughly tied with rugby as the 6th most popular sport in Saintland, behind gridiron, soccer, baseball, basketball and ice hockey. Since handball is not extremely popular, the National Handball Team did not initially carry expectations anywhere near as high as the teams for the 5 major sports, but that has changed after the 10th Handball World Cup. At that Handball World Cup, the Sanctii went undefeated, being crowned the best handball team in the world. The players on this team are not superstars, so they rely heavily on team play to compensate. Paulus Volusenus is the son of Royal One anchor Abraham Volusenus. Lucas Avidius is the older brother of Antonius Avidius, a goalkeeper for the Saintland National Soccer Team. Alessandro and Marcus Valgus are brothers. They also competed in the 11th Handball World Cup, but boycotted the 12th edition due to its being hosted by Gregoryisgodistan. Vindicta Progressvm, a now-defunct protest group, sent a team on their behalf. They have fallen to 6th in the rankings, in large part due to Vindicta Progressvm's incompetence at handball. In a goodwill gesture, King Petrus XX has, once again, decided to play their home games in the Holy Republican Empire, as they did at the 11th HWC.

HAUAHUHAU National Handball Team Roster and Media Guide

Due to vital character flaws on the part of the writer of HAUAHUHAUan press releases, the handball team's roster was released only after the team had played its first game of the World Cup. The Jaguarundis began group play today in Costa De Ouro, losing to Estenia 29 to 24 in a game that was not as close as the final scoreline suggests. Estenia got out to a quick lead in the opening few minutes of the game, and the boys from HAUAHUHAU couldn't catch up, despite going on a streak of seven goals unanswered after the halftime interval.

"The boys just didn't show a whole lot of effort tonight," said head coach Gregório Ferreira. "I've given them a good talking-to and expect them to meet my expectations next match."

The HAUAHUHAUan national handball team, nicknamed the jaguarundis, begins its first international competition with the 13th Handball World Cup. The team plays in an all-blue kit with yellow accents. Their change kit reverses the colors.
