I would suggest that you need an idea about a war. Like for example would it be a border dispute, a fight over an overseas territory, a political struggle? What interests you?

What to expect basically. How many forces do you have, what's the people's opinion of this, what's the weather/terrain/country like? How big is it? all very important.
