She had the typical teen life; a fair allowance, decent clothes, a reasonable curfew. She went to games and concerts with friends; no rejection.
The girl's life was in fact so typical that she rebelled against her parents by being as openly heterosexual as possible.

Sheltopolis wrote:Very interesting question: is it better for the social and emotional development of children to be raised in a household with gay parents, or a mother and father? It seems we have studies on both sides of the argument.
There was a study done here done by a professor of sociology that found 69% percent of children of lesbian mothers reported that their family received public assistance (e.g. welfare), compared with 17% from "intact biological families." Also, "about half of children of an intact biological family said they were employed full-time, compared with 26% of those born to a lesbian mother." Of course many question the validity of this survey, saying it has a right-wing agenda.
On the other hand there is evidence that looks in the other direction. According to LiveScience.com, gay parents "tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents." (article) Studies also showed that kids of gay parents fared no worse than those of straight parents, and in fact may be more open-minded.
My opinion on this would be a firm no — I do not see any compelling reason to say that kids raised by gay parents are worse-off than if they were raised by a mother and father. In fact they may even be better off. One thing I know for sure is that having two parents in the house is imperative for the success of any child. But whether that is two mothers, two fathers, or both, I could care less.
Thoughts?
