Postby Nordengrund » Thu Aug 28, 2014 1:46 pm

How much has your country changes in the passed ten years?

Ten years ago, Nordengrund was a homophobic one party theocracy but has now been becoming increasingly secular and progressive. A lot has changed politically, but most everything else has stayed the same.

When the Communist Oriental Republic was originally formed in 1990, Spanish was the only official language, and there was no such thing as provinces. In 2004, Russian was also made an official language, and the Republic was divided into 2 provinces, the Upper Republic and Lower Republic, which spoke Spanish and Russian, respectively. In 2013, yet another official language, Portuguese, was added, and a third province, the Middle Republic, was created between the Upper and Lower Republic.

A decade... that's a very short space of time for this nation. But we still have some achievement:

    12 states introduced public elections for legislatures;

    7 states abolished elections;

    23 states made English a mandatory language in schools;

Oh, the past decade was quite eventful in Kingdoms and States represented in the Council of State...

1. As the Settlement and accords of agreement between Empire of Alexandreon and Kingdom of Zamoi approached their expiry date, both governments of the member states of the Dual Monarchy begun a struggle for the new shape of the Settlement for the next ten years to come. Since no party was determined enough to impose their proposals, the Settlement has been preserved in the shape from approximately forty years ago.

2. The celebration of the 50th birthday of Emperor and King Gerasimos VI were a marvelous holiday and great pretext for feasting and celebrating. Ball halls of Anakalipsi rustled with fabulous and fanciful creations of ladies and chic tailcoats and uniforms of gentlemen.

3. The Army and Navy received great boost, thanks to "The Army Modernization Plan" and "The Thalassocracy Act".

4. Three would-be perpetrators of assasination of the President of Ministers of Empire of Alexandreon were hung publically in Anakalipsi. This was the last public execution in Kingdoms and States represented in the Council of State, as Emperor and King Gerasimos issued a patent prohibiting similar atrocities in the future. The ruler would gladly abolish death penalty, yet the matters of criminal law are reserved for Estates-General in Alexandreon and Parliament in Zamoi...

Not much, besides some innovations in military technology due to the fact that we've been in a war for the past 300 years.

Olwe has, in the past decade:

- Gained massive amounts of military self-confidence by fighting a much larger and more powerful nation, New Nicksyllvania, to a draw
- Acquired the new territories of Free Cappadocia (through protectorate status) and Restored Olwe (which was gifted to us by The Vorindun)
- Become a member of both The Pentagram Bloc and The Stonewall Alliance
- Decided, after brief deliberation, to become a champion of Pony rights
- Participated in our first alliance marriage (Olwean Princess Lily Greenleaf married King Maximian II of Gavinium Magnus
- Welcomed a new baby into the Imperial family (little Madeline, who is 10 months old)
- Lost a member of the Imperial family (Princess Mother Sarah Halliwell, who was killed on April Zombie's Day last year)
- Made first contact with House Dace, a potential new ally
- Created the Equality Task Force, a military battle group focused on destroying oppressors and promoting -- through deadly force -- nonhuman, pagan, gypsy and LGBT rights
- Instituted the Mandatory Boarding Policy, in which any ship from a nation which is known to have legalized slavery may be boarded and inspected, regardless of its location, by Olwean forces
- Expanded our most popular restaurant, Wolfman's Bar & Grill, internationally

-The Armed Forces of the Holy Constitutional Monarchy of the Commonwealth of Torrumbarry intervened in the Sixth War of the Secession of the democratic Northern Balencagoan Territories from the Marxist South, in assistance of the North.

-The formerly omnipotent and favored Liberal Party-United Democrat Party Coalition (Left-wing, classical liberal), which had held the Presidency for six Presidential terms of five years, was upstaged by the Conservative Party in an unforeseen landslide victory.

-Presidents in office in the previous decade: Rt. Hon. Howard Knight (one term), Rt. Hon. Dr. Jules Campbell (one term)

-The capital was moved from Richmond to the economic and tourist hub of Harrisburgh, Torrumbarry's most populous city.

A corrupt Democratic Republican government was overthrown, all political parties in Sauria were dissolved, and the old Republican government was reinstated. Oh, and there were a few wars with the Drakonians, Sslurids, and Sussurians.

We got a new Emperor in 2011, after Otto's long reign ended. We had our first female chancellor in 2005. Switzerland (accidentally) invaded us in 2007. No internal wars. The economy was good, save for a brief a recession, but it got better. Smartphones, new tech, etc; overall nothing too dramatic except for some natural progress.

For most of it, Chairman Fredorik just simply ruled peacefully and terror-fully over the nation. Then, in the last few months, he and 89,000 others died, a civil war started, another guy died, blahblahblahblah...

Some significant developments in the past decade:
  • We are developing our Ai Cavalry to enhance our rapid-deployment capability in case of invasion.
  • We are becoming more aggressive in the global cause of freedom - e.g. the anti-slavery activities of the submarine Goldfish and the Raiding Force (Romeo Foxtrot).
  • We are developing a manned spaceflight capability to maintain our FatSat network of communications and mapping satellites.

The Mechanocracy's been mainly the same since its founding in 2079, so 2140 was pretty much similar to 2150. Perhaps one big difference though would have to be that the Martian colonies were only just being founded and Marsianingrad (our largest city on Mars) wasn't nearly as developed as it is today (it was completed in 2138).

Cill Airne saw some major changes, many of which were rooted in the 90's and 00's.

• Our economy recovered from a major recession throughout the 1990's.
• The Civil Union Act of 2000 is passed in 1999, and goes into affect on January 1st, 2000. This is the first time same-sex couples have received any form of recognition in Cill Airne.
• The Adoption Equality Act of 2001 is passed on January 18th, 2001 and goes into affect in June of the same year. Same-sex couples can now adopt children.
• The Acts of Succession 2002 is passed in November of 2001, and goes into affect January 1st 2002. This changed the prior Acts of Succession 1832 which stated only a male heir may succeed to the throne. Now the first born child of the monarch is heir apparent, regardless of sex.
• Cill Airne saw the election of its first female prime minister in the 2002 elections.
• The Same-Sex Marriage act was passed in 2008 and went into affect in 2009.
• King James succeeded his father in 2010.
