Does your army still use swords today?

Postby Zhouran » Fri Aug 22, 2014 4:57 am

Does your nation's military still use swords? If so, is it for ceremonial use or battle use?

Image

The Guan Jian is a Zhouranese sword. Developed somewhere in 34 AE, during the Silin Dynasty, the Guan Jian was used by officers for battle. Currently, it is used by officers in the Zhouranese People's Army. It is also used as a ceremonial weapon for honor guards in the Zhouranese People's Army.

The sword uses advanced highly-dense metal liquid crystal, giving it an extremely sharp blade. It is incredibly strong and reliable, and is capable of penetrating heavy armor.

The Spetsnaz Nano Suit V2 has two, 20 inch swords built into each arm commonly used in conjunction with the Cloaking mode of the suit to sneak up behind and impale their enemies as well as being terrifying close combat weapons for who ever was unfortunate enough to get that close to them.

The Elite Spetsnaz or Nano Augmented Troopers can form a sword out of their own bodies among other things.

We do have actual swords that are for ceremonial use (Though still sharp and capable of easily killing somebody) that have been used by the Royal Guard before the Revolution and are still in use today with guards at Namalsk Palace.

Yes. Sabres are carried by officers, usually for ceremonial purposes but they can be used as weapons.
In battle, bayonets and knifes are used.

We have a small amount of swords for ceremonial purposes. On state visits for example, the honor-guards which shall represent Opplandia are carrying a short-sword on the belt of their full dress uniform.

We use swords both for Ceremonial and Battle purposes our swords for ceremonial purposes are fencing swords with blunt edges while for battle we use sharp fencing blades. Among our weapons we also have muskets....

Officers carry swords on parade, as do mounted Guards. That's about it.

Sabers are strictly a ceremonial tradition and are only used in military parades and official occasions.

The UOI has abolished it's army to pursue peace and co-operation, so no, since we do not have a military.

Soldiers and Duty Officers of the Imperial Army (The Imperial Family's bodyguards and the police force in the capital city of Lacrima) all carry traditional Kolinthanese Syklav swords, which are similar in design to the Cossack shashka.

During parades, a Syklav is worn along with the iconic Guard Army ceremonial uniform.

The Allanean Army permits commissioned officers to carry a sword (or another traditional arm, such as a trench flail) into combat if they so choose.

The most common officers' swords are similar in design to the Mark 6 Fedorov Shashka.

Some infantry units from the Autonomous Tribal Republics use titanium alloy swords in conventional warfare, as well as kevlar-plated cavalry and high-tec bows. Aside from that, the sword is mostly ceremonial and issued to officers during parades.
