Tchoukball World Champs I (sign-ups and host bids)

Postby Nova Pruthenia » Mon Aug 18, 2014 2:21 pm

:eyebrow: Image

Because of sufficient interest in tchoukball seen here:
http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=306116

I've decided to open sign-ups and host bids.
I. What is thoukball?
Tchoukball /tʃuːkbɔːl/ is an indoor team sport developed in the 1970s by Swiss biologist Hermann Brandt.

The sport is usually played on an indoor court measuring 27 metres by 16 metres. At each end there is a 'frame' (a device similar to a trampoline off which the ball bounces) which measures one square metre and a semicircular D-shaped forbidden zone measuring three metres in radius. Each team can score on both ends on the field, and comprises twelve players, of which seven may be on the court at any one time. In order to score a point, the ball must be thrown by an attacking player, hit the frame and bounce outside the 'D' without being caught by the defending team. Physical contact is prohibited, and defenders may not attempt to intercept the attacking team's passes. Players may take three steps with the ball, hold the ball for a maximum of three seconds, and teams may not pass the ball more than three times before shooting at the frame.

The basic rules are here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7SFVgHWhU8
And if you would like to see how the game looks like in pro way:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT64q4WaxqI

II. When?
I think it's best to do right after the Olympic Games. If there won't be any host bids, Nova Pruthenia will hold the Champs. If the same situation occurs with Kronum (which I may also host), the tournament will start right after the Kronum World Cup IV (which I recommend too).

III. RP
The whole tournament will be based on RP, as there was never any international Tchoukball tournament so far. In scale 1-10 all teams will be skilled 5.
RP bonuses: 50%, 35%, 20%.

IV. Confirmed sign-ups (13)

I have tested Nova Pruthenia's scorinator, and it works nicely. I could submit a host bid, if you guys are okay with it. (I've already hosted a tournament and taken part in several other tournaments, before my old region's implosion led me to rage quit the nation I once RP'd as; this is not my second post on a NationStates forum, despite how I created this nation just a few hours ago. ^^')

1ème Coupe du Monde de Tchoukball, Nouvelle-Gaule

The teams that will take part in the tournament will be sorted into an even number of groups, in which each team will face every other team once; Nova Pruthenia (creator of the tournament) and Nouvelle-Gaule (host of the tournament) will be top seeds. If only the seven nations that, so far, have posted on this thread will take part in the tournament, they will be sorted into a Group A of 3 teams headed by Nova Pruthenia and a Group B of 4 teams headed by Nouvelle-Gaule. A win will be worth three points, a draw one point, and a loss no points; point difference will be considered as well.

The 2 best teams of each group will access the semi-finals; the winner of Group A will face the runner-up of group B, and the runner-up of Group A will face the winner of Group B. Eventually, these teams will compete in the final and the third place match. In case of draw in the knockout rounds, a 5 minutes long extra time will be played.

I will follow Nova Pruthenia's RP guidelines. Before the start of the tournament, right after the Olympic Games, each participant will have to submit its roster (7 players + 5 substitutes) and the following RP permissions:

If my opponent RPs first, he/she may:
===================================
Chose my goal scorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
Suspend my players: Yes/No
Godmod suspension events: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
===================================

If more teams will enter the tournament, the format will change accordingly.

These are the cities in which the World Championship will take place:

Champlain

Image

It used to be the capital of the Viceroyalty of Nouvelle-Gaule; now, Champlain is the capital of the Republic of Nouvelle-Gaule, founded 199 years ago by the exiled revolutionaries that unsuccessfully tried to put an end to the absolutist Ancien Régime of their homeland. Today, the beautiful capital fully lives up to the motto of the old revolutionaries and the present republic: freedom, equality, brotherhood.

Le Moyne

Image

Perhaps the most well known city in Nouvelle-Gaule, Le Moyne is a popular tourist destination, and one of the most liberal cities in the continent, being to its nation what Amsterdam is for the Netherlands. Those reactionaries in the neighbouring Commonwealth of New Britain consider it a den of sin and vice, but they're just a bunch of puritan hypocrites - thousands of New British visit it every year, after all.

Fort Pontchartrain

Image

One of the biggest cities of the whole Republic, Fort Pontchartrain is synonimous with two things: cars, and music. Since the 1960s, it has been home to the biggest names in French-language music, and to cars that put those of their cousins in Paris to shame - it seemed like it was headed to become some sort of real life dystopian wasteland, some decades ago but, thankfully, it has not met the same fate of that shithole in New Britain.

... ... ...

- Monsieur Boucher?
- Yes?
- You're supposed to submit a host bid, not to start another war.
- Oh, fuck. You know, adjusting back to civilian life's quite hard... I'm still having flashbacks about torturing POWs.
- WHAT?

Firstly, you are not the host yet. Another bid can come and the public votes for them so don't jump a mile. I like the bid but...

The top seed stuff implies that this tournament will not be fair. All because you came up eith the tournamenI it doesdoesn't mean you ate the best. Let the rankings go in Tchoukball 2. All set to zero is fair.

I know I'm not the host, I was just stating how the tournament would be ran if I became the host. If you think having top seeds is unfair I can get rid of them anyway. :3

I don't think that was the intent - he was just saying he'd be in a separate group from Nova.

This. Still, it's not a big deal, I could make entirely random groups if someone doesn't want me and Nova Pruthenia to be in separate groups. Anyway, there are 11 teams now. I know I said "even number of groups" but, I don't really want to have a Group A of 6 teams and a Group B of 5 teams - they'd be too... huge. What do you think about having Group A and Group B with 4 teams each, and a Group C with 3 teams? The semifinalists would be the groups' first placed teams, and the best second placed team in the whole group stage.

I don't mean to sound rude, but where did you get 11 teams from? Looking back at the original post, I can see 10 sign-ups and one hosting bid. Plus Super-Llamaland hasn't exactly confirmed that they'll be taking part. Unless they have and I didn't spot it.

But yeah, smaller groups of 3 or 4 nations for the group stage might actually be a good idea.

This is what happens when I am half asleep. I'm glad you think not having groups of six teams each is a good idea, anyway - okay, FIFA wants to do it, sort of, but I don't think the world is ready for a logistical nightmare of a World Cup that would last at least three months; not the real world, and not the NationStates world either. XD
