Rising Concerns for Geze

Recent events in Geze have taken much of the international community by storm. With President Nkruma Isingoma's new sweeping curfew and political gathering reforms without consulting the corrupted and hamstrung legislature, rebels in the Northern provinces have been growing bolder,
with attacks on towns and villages becoming more and more commonplace. This comes after weeks of protest following the decision by Mr. Isingoma to nationalize industries such as lumber production and fisheries to increase tax revenue. Such tax revenue has been proclaimed to have trickled down to the people, however these claims appear to have been false. Members close to the Presidential Cabinet have been purchasing vast quantities of luxury goods, leading many within the International Union to believe the former General and Supreme Commander of the Gezan People's Liberation Front is bankrolling his own inner circle to maintain power.

Riots have broken out in most of the Northern townships, with elements of the Gezan Army's 2nd Infantry Regiment begin deployed. crackdowns have been violent, with troops armed with riot gear against mostly defenseless protesters resulting in casualties and even several unconfirmed deaths. At this time, the President's office and the International Union's Press Secretary both refused comment on the matter.

The Fairweather Journal
Trade Deal with South Burgretsk Finalized

After years of planning and deliberation, the Gurudan and South Burgretsk heads of state sat down in Fairweather yesterday evening to sign their largest trade agreement of this decade. The Gurudan-South Burgretsk Free Trade Agreement (GSBFTA) will be effective at the end of this economic quarter. The deal declares open economic markets between the bordering nations, removing import quotas, and the heavy Gurudan tariff's that have made it difficult for South Burgretskian products to succeed in Gurudan markets.

The signing of GSBFTA has been a center of controversy, and a heavily debated subject within the Gurudan parliament since it's inception. The opposition to the agreement sees the deal as a threat to domestically manufactured products, creating fears that the Gurudan GDP will see ill effects by the end of this year. The prices of Gurudan oil and coal will certainly fall within South Burgretsk over the coming months. David Croswell, a senior representative of Guruda's New Left Party, has been a strong opponent of GSBFTA, citing fears that Guruda will be the loser of this deal.

"South Burgretsk will strongly benefit from the deal," Representative Croswell told the Fairweather Journal. "But Guruda is not in the same economic position. Several of our top industries will face deep cuts to their profits, and our citizens will no doubt feel the effects." Croswell is primarily concerned with the oil and coal industries, which have no rivals across the South Burgretsk border. He, and many other economic analysts, agree that the price of these fuels will rise in Guruda to make up for lost profits.

Not everyone in Guruda's legislature feels the same in regards to this landmark deal. Chancellor John Moreau (SDU) called the agreement "commendable," and "a sign of mutual cooperation and assistance that will benefit both countries for years to come." The impact the signing of GSBFTA has on Moreau and the Social Democratic Union is awaited by many.

The Koffman Inquirer
Sectarian violence imminent Kazzaraine

Over the past two weeks, police and health department officials affiliated with the Kazzaraine government have begun to close down mosques in the Islamic-majority cities of Barakat and Mus'ad. This comes after sweeping Judaic legislation imposing harsher restrictions upon Muslim centers of worship, recreational and social service facilities, as well as healthcare centers such as hospitals and nursing clinics. In response, many Islamic societies have taken to arms, with firebombings of Judaic schools and a Kazzarainian police outpost two days ago being the most notable events.

This has come to fruition after last October's elections where due to a Ministerial reshuffling of electoral ballot and voting stations, the majority of Muslim polling stations were moved to Judaic-populated areas in most major cities.

Although outcry and public support among Muslims has dropped to an all-time low, Judaic authorities maitnain that these procedures are for "national security" and the "stability of a modern Kazzaraine. Regardless of their motives, it seems as if the violence and riots brewing in this area are going to continue for some time.

Gezan Crisis Escalates; Gurudan Warship Rescues Casualties

Yesterday morning, a Fasawian torpedo boat was sunk near the oceanic border of Fasawi and Geze. Reports suggest that the Fasawian PT boat was misidentified by a lone fighter belonging to the Gezan Air Force. The ever growing civil unrest in Geze has since spread to the armed forces, causing several units to break away from government control, and join the increasing resistance. The Gezan Navy has lost control of several PT boats in the past week due to anti-government forces. Sources indicate that the Gezan fighter identified the Fasawian ship as one of these lost vessels. No statements have been released from the Gezan Capital.

As the unrest has grown in Gezan, the Gurudan Navy has taken steps to monitor the crisis. For the past several days the GNV Nonik, a Dealey Class Destroyer, has been on station in international waters just outside of the Gezan border. Commander Charles Stephenson, a 28 year veteran of the Gurudan Navy and commander of the Nonik, responded to the distress call stemming from the sinking Fasawian ship. The Destroyer was the first responder, and managed to retrieve the 12 man crew who had been stranded in the water for nearly two hours. There were no serious injuries. Several members of the Fasawian government publicly expressed their gratitude towards the the crew of the Nonik, and the Gurudan Navy.

The incident regarding the lost Fasawian torpedo boat has escalated international concerns related to the deteriorating situation in Geze. The Fasawian ambassador to the International Union has requested the need for a conference to discuss the Geze crisis as the unrest has begun to spill onto their borders. The Fasawian government has already begun planning on how to accommodate incoming refugees from across the border. The ambassador of Dankari has publicly joined the Fasawian ambassador in his pleas for response from the IU.

The Koffman Enquirer
Riots in Kazzaraine provoke outrage

Earlier today, police raided a suspected Islamic terror cell, but ended up seizing nothing more than a frightened elderly couple asleep in their beds. The downfall from this raid, and many similar no-knock night raids have brought Muslims to the streets of every major street in Kazzaraine. Riots and protests over the government's use of force and coercion to maintain autonomy has come under fire, even after the remarks from the Minister of National Security, stating that "I am deeply troubled and concerned by these events and assure the public they will be investigated fully." Inquiries have learned that little if no effort is being made to further progress in the investigation of such warrant-less police searches.

These riots have brought equally severe police crackdowns, with clashes between riot police and Muslim protesters bringing the deaths of three of the civilian rioters. This comes with mass arrests, and due to an already backlogged court and archaic laws disregarding habeus corpus, these new accused persons are expected to be in custody anywhere from three to seven months before a trial or judicial hearing. With these extraordinary measures, the Ministry of Public Safety has issued a new code demanding that all persons must be in their homes before sundown, and those without government issued papers after curfew permitting travel will be persecuted for disrupting public safety and disturbing the peace. Seemingly the only non-Judaic persons being issued such permits are Muslim business owners and employees, with the vast majority of poor Islamic citizens not able to attain these internal visas.

It appears that with no solution on the horizon, the brewing ethnic and religious tension will continue to grow despite the government's best efforts.

The Derby Times
Tadorian Communists begin to seed unrest

As of this morning, the communist group known as The Tadorian Worker's Liberation Front has begun to attack government and privately owned assets, beginning with two police stations in the rural province of Kwasi. The bombings have thus far killed six policemen and maimed or wounded two dozen others. Although these reports are unconfirmed, the death tolls are typical of such form of attacks. Without losing momentum, an attack later that day on the correctional facility in the same province, the Mosi Bamidele Correctional Institute resulted in the freeing of over one hundred and fifty prisoners from E Block, an area normally reserved for those not in favour politically with the current regime.

This new wave of violence has caught the often lackadaisical and laissez-faire government off hand, and the momentum is certainly with the TWLF at this stage of the conflict. Although they have not appealed for an IU invetigation or assistance force, it is likely that such a motion will be asked as of Monday's International Security Assembly meeting, where the safety of the region under attack is in question.

KAIGUN ON STANDBY: POSSIBLE INTERVENTION IN TADOR?

Image
Carrier "Zuikaku" during exercises.

As new tensions erupt in Tador following to Communist riots launched by Worker's liberation front of Tador ( WLFT ), Imperial government decided to offer Tadorians military assistance in fighting red plague which threatens their land. Imperial Assembly led by Adm. Kyokumoto held an emergency session today, which was finished by decision to offer Tadorians military assistance. If the offer will be accepted, Carrier "Zuikaku" is already being mobilized for possible intervention, alongside with units of Kaigun Rikusentai ( marines ) which will take part in possible intervention to stop evil communists who threaten both of our nations.

The escalation begun yesterday morning when WLFT begun attacks on police station in rural province of Kwasi. The attacks took life of six brave policemen and many more civilians. Murderous beasts from WLFT have launched all-out offensive, murdering civilians and raping women. Their attempt is total genocide of any "class enemy" they find in Tador and removal of foreigners from there. Driven by their bloodthirsty ideology they have already murdered many people. Such injustice can not and will not be tolerated by Imperial government. Today' s session caused many controversies as supporters of Admiral Kyokumoto and his major political opponent, Yamashi Kazuhiro clashed during session in what was more political war than civilized debate. Supporters of Admiral Kyokumoto claimed that the empire should take active steps against murdering communists and intervene while supporters of Minister Yamashi wanted not to intervene, claiming that this will be too much for the budget. Finally, after minister of finances Asuka Kirishima confirmed that the costs of intervention will be not that high as Minister Yamashi tells, whole national assembly agreed to officially send a communique to Tadorian government. Later his Imperial majesty, Emperor Kogen sent a official diplomatic communique to Tador, in which he asked them to allow Imperial Troops on the ground as help in pacification of uprising caused by communist thieves and murderers.

"Make no mistake" his Imperial Majesty said today from the balcony of Imperial Palace "there is no chance that any communist will mock honour of the empire and get away with life. Communism is a vile plague which seeks to eradicate morals and destroy God, but we - the men of honour - will fight them and show them no mercy. Why won't we show them any mercy? Because they do not deserve it. If somebody murders men women and children he spits on his honour and is worse than dog. That is why we, the Samurai of Kyokuzo shall today stand up and defend fellow nation from the tentacles of red plague. We will win or die trying."

Kaigun is already getting ready for deployment. 2nd Carrier division, Empire's premier strike force led by Carrier "Zuikaku" has now launched exercises near Tokdo islands, where they are training for possible intervention. 43th Marine Brigade was also mobilized, with the soldiers ready to set foot in Tador within week. "It is a matter of personal honour" says General Takeshi Kurosawa of Kaigun Rikusentai " to defend the weaker from the plague of communism. Just as emperor orders we are ready to grab our katanas and guns and chop off the head of communist snake which threatens Tador! Everything for Dai Kyokuzo!"

How will it end? We shall see....
