What is your favorite food, drink, or cuisine?

Postby West Aurelia » Mon Jul 21, 2014 5:40 am

I love food. Food makes me happy. Therefore, I would like to know what is the NationStates community's favorite food, drink, or cuisine.

My favorite food is Hainanese chicken rice and I like Singaporean cuisine (I have dual US/Singaporean citizenship as that is where my parents are from). I don't have a favorite drink. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find authentic chicken rice outside of Singapore. I have lived abroad for the past 10 years and eat as much as I can when I go back to visit.

Let's see what is the most popular food, drink, and cuisine.

My favourite food or dish is a full breakfast, complete with fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms, fried bread or toast with butter, sausages and baked beans and I usually throw black pudding in there as well.

Honestly wouldn't know where to begin, there's just too many.
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

A Scot, eh? Even my squeamish spouse admits that she enjoys black pudding for a "full" breakfast. We had a lovely such repast on Mull.

But my favorite restaurant, in Woodstock VT, serves Cambodian and Thai food. A great variety of whole herbs are used, and nothing is overly processed.

For drinks, after Irn Bru, I like a dry red wine. Or moderately sweet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montepulciano_%28grape%29

Afraid that's a full English breakfast. There's not much different to a full Scottish breakfast, apart from it being Scottish styled black pudding, sliced sausage, and tattie scones. I've also seen the Scots include oatcakes and haggis.

I'm quite fond of Lebanese food, but also Indian, Mexican, Thai, Italian... a little bit of everything, really.

That I can eat semi-regularly? Steak and potatoes is hard to beat. I'm an uncomplicated man. A rare (or, even better, blue rare) steak and a side of potatoes, maybe with a salad just so I can have something to insult at the dinner table with me is about as close to heaven as I can get on this world.

Favorites I get less chance to indulge in (or try to keep from indulging in too much) include venison backstrap, heart, boxty and lefsa (they fill the same catagory and for some reason I only ever eat them around the holidays/family-gatherings instead of making them, don't know why), and biscuits and gravy. I have a weakness for biscuits and gravy.

Drink-wise, I like black coffee. It doesn't even have to be good black coffee. Folgers, Yuban, gas-station, old & cold...About the only stipulations I have are that it be strong and not instant. I've got a bit of a philosophical opposition to Starbucks coffee, but when I had it I liked it.
More particularly, I like Tyrconnell whiskey (never could go in too much for Scotch, 'American' "whiskey" like Jack Daniel's and such, or beer).

Food
A close tie between Baklava and Spanakopita

Drink
Coffee.

Cuisine
Greek. Coming from a Greek family I absolutely adore Greek food, unfortunately it isn't very commonplace to find a Greek restaurant where I'm living. I also enjoy German food too.

Chicken Wings and Coffee. Poutine's great too.

Lamb Chops are amazing.

I love me a good creamy chicken soup too. Or a salty beef soup.

I just really like soup.

The way I see it, if my meal doesn't have any meat in it, there better be some damn gravy. And good gravy too, not that crappy vegetarian stuff.

Drinkwise, probably Lucozade, and not the Orange or Blackcurrant shit, the pure original Glucose one, I love the stuff, I could drink it in the gallons.

Foodwise? Too many to list, I was born in the UK but I'm not really a fan of the UK cuisine, due to having a Serbian father, and thus, Serbian Grandparents, I've eaten a lot of Pork in life, probably way too much, everytime I go round my Grandparents its Pork, everytime my Dad did the cooking instead of my Mum, it's Pork (this is why I'm glad that I'm now doing my own cooking), my Dad actually eats Pork Steak at least 5 times a week, and that ends up trickling down whenever he cooks. But as a result of this Pork indoctrination, I quite like Pork, now this is going to sound really evil, but one of the tastiest food objects I've ever eaten, is those Pork Sausage patties from Mcdonalds that you can have in the McMuffins, I fucking love them.

Outside of Pork, I love Sarma, and Cheese Burek almost more than anything else, I'm also pretty big on Fried Chicken, it's pretty much my go to food when the Pork supply is low. Lamb Donner is pretty nice also.

Though seriously, I eat food other than Meat, I like a variety of cuisines, from East Asian to Mexican to Mediterranean to Middle Eastern to Germanic, and I like my Vegetables.

I've had a think, and I would say my favourite cuisine would be anything around the Mediterranean - from Spanish to Lebanese and from Croatian to Egyptian.

It's very varied, but somehow always combines together to make something beautiful - Bell peppers filled with Lebanese lentils & rice and feta, with tastsiki drizzled on. Halloumi and Patatas Bravas. Pasta with vegetarian cevapcici and Ayvar. It just lends itself to so much fusion :)

Where desserts are concerned, I'm staunchly German, though.

My favourite drink would be the humble cuppa tea.
