Plague of the Vampyr: 1785 (Vampire RP, OOC, SEMI-CLOSED)

Postby Rudaslavia » Sat Jul 19, 2014 9:54 am

Hello! Welcome to my vampire RP! I've done this RP before, but I'm going to try it again and take a different spin on it to give players some actual freedom.

WARNING
This RP is intended for mature players only. If you are bothered by violence, swearing, sex, crime, or anything associated with these, you may leave now. Otherwise, please continue reading!

A Secretive History

In 33 A.D., Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ to the Sanhedrin assembly for 30 silver coins. Condemned to crucifixion by the Roman imperial authorities of Judaea, the proclaimed Son of God was publicly executed upon a cross within a matter of days after his arrest. Wrought with guilt and shame, Judas hung himself on the grounds of Aceldama.

However, Judas’s treacherous act against Christ condemned his soul for an eternity. Upon his suicide, his essence was placed in a spiritual state far beyond redemption or salvation. Wholly consumed by the black grasp of Satan, Judas rose from death as a “svknv shl hshtn”—an Agent of the Devil. He became a monster in both body and mind.

This vile and malicious creature, though still akin to a common man in appearance, was now capable of transforming into a fanged beast of untold power. The fiend was afflicted with an unquenchable hunger for the blood and flesh of mortal man; and worse, his putrid saliva acted as a conduit of his unholy malady. Like a rabid virus, the bite of Judas (mockingly dubbed the “Kiss of Judas” in reference to his betrayal of the Son) transformed his human victims into beasts much like himself. These monsters then found themselves capable of passing the notorious Kiss of Judas on to their own victims, creating a complex “family tree” of the demonic creatures.

Judas and his “children,” as he referred to them, wreaked havoc on the Holy Land and spread fear and carnage throughout world. Vampirekind had been born.

Yet mankind was not defenseless against the wrath of the Satan’s earthly minions. Cursed by his exchange of Christ’s life for a meager purse of silver coin, Judas and his vampires found themselves weak and susceptible to physical contact with silver metal. They were also found to be repulsed, though not harmed, by holy symbols of the Abrahamic God.

Centuries passed as the forces of mankind clashed with those of Judas and his vampires in a secretive conflict that slowly spread worldwide. Judas, the self-proclaimed “Blood Prince”, governed an intricate empire of undead worldwide with numbers reaching into the hundreds of thousands. However, the existence of vampires slowly faded into legend over time. The common depiction of vampiric creatures in medieval literature and theatrical drama transformed it into a form of entertaining folklore.

Despite this, after experiencing a wide variety of brutal vampire attacks during the First Crusade, many Catholic crusaders sought an organized effort of combating the eminent threat of the Blood Prince and his underlings. In 1120, the French knight Hugues de Payens founded the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, also known as the “Knights Templar”—a monastic order publicly dedicated to the Christian domination of the Holy Land. Secretively, however, the order was established for the sole purpose of eliminating vampiric influence throughout Christendom. The Templar Knights are widely considered to be the first organization of vampire hunters.

Finally in 1189, Pope Clement III sanctioned one of the most secretive operations in European history. Under the guise of the Third Crusade, the Knights Templar were tasked by the Vatican with annihilating Judas Iscariot, the Blood Prince. The Templars roared into the Holy Land alongside the crusader armies of Philip II of France and Richard I of England. But with the war coming to an unexpectedly early conclusion in 1192, the crusaders were rushed to uncover the location of the famed Blood Prince. They made use of controversial methods including torture, blackmail, murder, and bribery to gain their needed intelligence.

After gaining valuable information from a high ranking Islamic officer, Templar Grand Master Robert de Sablé finally faced Judas in hand-to-hand combat on the barren fields of Aceldama. The battle, which is told to have lasted several hours, ended when de Sablé beheaded the vile beast with a silver blade. Enraged by their master’s death, several of the Blood Prince’s vampiric disciples descended upon the tiresome Grand Master and tore him to pieces before fleeing at the arrival of crusader reinforcements. The head and body of Judas Iscariot were cautiously brought back to the Vatican where they were soaked in holy water before being burned to ashes and hurled into the Mediterranean.

With their central leader eliminated, the unity of the vampires was decimated. Their complex underground empire crumbled, and vampirekind was relentlessly pursued by minor organizations similar to the Templar Order. But the Templar Order, slowly becoming ridden with corruption, was officially disbanded in 1312. This gave rise to a brief revival of vampiric influence throughout Europe, Middle East, and even western Asia. Recognizing the threat, several prominent European nobles and admirers of the lost Templar cause founded the Order of the Dragon in 1408—a advanced institution of well-trained vampire hunters dedicated to the task of destroying vampire kind entirely. Although a Christian organization in the public eye, many of the Order’s members consisted of Muslims, Jews, and even a sect of Hindus.

The Order of the Dragon maintained a set of extremely strict rules to avoid the corruption which plagues the Knights Templar. This enabled the Order to secretively survive throughout the passing centuries. Members of the Order of the Dragon are very well-educated in the fields of combat, psychology, philosophy, history, and literature. They gained an enormous increase of influence during the Renaissance Era, in which the spreading of such ideals was encouraged by a newly enlightened society.

It is occasionally rumored by modern Order members that an Eastern European vampire briefly united the Agents of the Devil worldwide and became the second known Blood Prince. He evaded destruction at the hands of the Order by entering a period of Blood Rest—a catatonic state of stimulated death that allows the vampire to preserve his or her life by mimicking death and decay to avoid detection. Once a vampire enters Blood Rest, he or she cannot be revived until fresh human blood is poured into his or her mouth. At that point, the vampire will revive completely, its flesh and consciousness being restored to its fullest. For this reason, vampires almost never risk entering into the Blood Rest, as there is a chance that they will never be revived again. The legends of this second Blood Prince are widely regarded as impossible and false; they are dismissed by all Order leaders.

It is now the late 18th century. The Order of the Dragon, now present throughout the world, has concealed itself from public knowledge and burrowed itself into the world of secrecy. Vampires, lacking total unification, have cleverly blended themselves into human society where they continue to quietly bring about death and destruction to mankind. The world still regards vampires as a product of myth and a source of horrific entertainment. Very few outside the Order of the Dragon are aware of the true existence of vampires.

However, unbeknownst to the world, a new threat silently emerges…a threat that could destroy mankind forever.

Vampires

These monsters are known by a variety of names, including “svknv shl hshtn” (“Agents of the Devil”) in Hebrew, “Ministri Satanae” (“Ministers of Satan”) in Latin, “les buveurs de sang” (“blood drinkers”) in French, and “comedores de carne” (“flesh eaters”) in Spanish. They are present in almost every nation and territory in the world.

Vampires are amongst the most scientifically mysterious creatures in the world. A 15th century Italian observer noted, “There is no physical explanation behind their existence or abilities; retractable fangs and claws, changeable hue of the eyes from common color to black, darkening of the veins in monstrous form, unnatural paleness of the skin—one cannot justify the physics behind these facilities!”

Vampires are capable of switching between human and vampiric form. While in human form, a vampire appears as a common man or woman. Nothing seems to physically distinguish them from mankind. However, when they enter vampire form, they undergo drastic changes in appearance. These changes are listed below:

1. GROWTH OF FANGS AND EXTENSION OF JAWS -- When entering vampire form, the creature’s teeth become rigidly sharp and jagged. While every tooth seems to slightly grow in size upon their sharpening, the upper and lower canines notably double in size and become more prominent than the others. In addition, the jaws seem to extend upon transformation, allowing the vampire greater jaw strength and bite size. Their fangs are long, thin, and incredibly strong (described by some as unbreakable)—perfect for tearing away at flesh.

2. GROWTH OF CLAWS -- When entering vampiric form, the vampire grows extremely sharp, dark-gray claws from its finger tips. This allows for powerful slashing attacks (which vampires often are seen to prefer over the use of weapons).

3. BLACKENING OF EYES -- Upon transformation, the vampire’s eyes become completely black. No whiteness or any other form of coloration is visible in the vampire’s eyes This is thought by some to be due to the massive extension and growth of the pupils to allow complete sight in the dark. It is said that even the darkest of nights appears well-lit through the eyes of a vampire. However, many others believe that the pupils do not extend and that the eyes simply just become black as a symbol of their demonic nature.

4. BLACKENING OF VEINS -- When a vampire transforms, many of the veins beneath their skin appear to become completely black or very dark purple. If a vampire is wounded whilst in vampire form, its blood will appear to be either black or extremely dark purple as well.

5. PALENESS OF THE SKIN -- When a vampire transforms, it seems to lose much of its natural skin hue. They become notably pale and colorless. Even a dark-skinned vampire (perhaps of black, Hispanic, or Pacific islander descent) will lose much of its dark color upon transformation. An African vampire was once described as looking “almost grey-skinned when he transformed…but maybe with a hint of natural color.”

All of these changes are reversed when the creatures enter back into human form. Their eye, skin, and vein color reverts back to normal, while their fangs and claws retract (replaced by normal human teeth and fingernails). These traits have yet to be explained by scientific facts.

In addition, vampires have a small variety of powers and abilities granted to them by their cursed condition. These powers include: immortality and immunity to all forms of illness, toxic material, and poison; exceptional strength (roughly equivalent to that of 50 men); extraordinary speed (with maximun speed capacities reaching up to 30 m/s); enhanced sense of smell, hearing, and eyesight; virtual invulnerability to conventional (non-silver) weaponry; increased intelligence, especially when logistics are concerned; ability to spread vampiric disease to mortal humans (create new vampires); and telepathic connection to all sired vampires. As a vampire grows older, these strengths and abilities grow and slowly become more powerful.

The vampire who spreads his or her curse to a mortal human being is known as the “sire”, while the victim (and newly sired vampire) is known as the “spawn”. Telepathic communication between sire and spawn is known to exist, but the telepathic connection is severed when either the sire or spawn in slain. It should be noted that a spawn is not considered subservient to its sire and is not obligated to obey its creator under any circumstances. They also do not require one another to survive. A spawn can survive without its sire, just as its sire can survive without its spawn. A vampire is capable of siring as many spawn as he or she desires.

Contrary to popular belief, vampires are not harmed by sunlight in any way. They are as capable of surviving within the sun as a human being. Some believe that vampires are slightly weaker during the day than they are during the night, although this is still up for debate. The origins of these myths are rooted in the fact that most vampires prefer hunting in the night due to their supposed ability to see in the darkness. This gives them a considerable advantage over their prey.

Vampires are also not vulnerable to garlic. These legends originated in Southern Europe, and are considered to be false in every way. In fact, vampires have a strong liking for garlic-flavored foods and aromas.

Vampires have three main weaknesses: silver, holy Abrahamic objects, and fire. Silver, the bane of vampirekind, burns the skin of the creatures on contact. For this reason, vampires are never seen to carry silver on their person and usually do not possess any form of silver objects on their properties. Most vampire hunters make use of silver weapons while seeking out the enemy. As previously stated, any object known to be symbolic of the Abrahamic God (held sacred to the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic religions) repulses the average vampire. While they do not physically harm the vampires, they inspire great fear within them. Holding a crucifix in front of a vampire is the equivalent to holding a tarantula in front of an arachnophobic. Lastly, fire seems to cause an unusual amount of damage to vampiric skin. A vampire’s flesh appears to burn much easier than the flesh of a human. For this reason, fire is usually listed as a major weakness of vampirekind. Vampires can be killed by strangulation and dismemberment by hand as well, but rarely are humans ever able to carry out such acts. These are usually methods used by vampires to kill one another.

Vampires are psychologically incapable of thinking like a human being. As Agents of the Devil, they are only able to comprehend emotions which are linked to the seven deadly sins:

1. Wrath -- Vampires experience extreme emotional outbursts of rage when threatened, offended, or wronged in any way.

2. Greed -- Vampires have an obsession with wealth and material objects. They will do almost anything to gain a desired possession.

3. Sloth -- Vampires enjoy earthly pleasures and favor them over work and labor. They adore lavish parties, drinking, and use of drugs and narcotics.

4. Pride -- Vampires have an inflated sense of personal status and love for their own selves. They are notorious for their arrogance, narcissism, and an endless craving for worship and admiration from others.

5. Lust -- Vampires are lustful beasts. Along with their thirst for flesh and blood, they also have an unquenchable desire for power and sex.

6. Envy -- Vampires have extreme desire to gain possessions which they lack, yet which another has. They despise it when others have superior traits or belongings.

7. Gluttony -- Vampires tend to overindulge in extravagance (usually blood, wine, and decorative foods). Their hungers are almost never satisfied.

However, vampires are very skilled at mimicking normal emotions such as joy, laughter, sadness, and love. This enhances their ability to blend with human society without raising suspicion.

Because of this interesting (and yet terrifying) mental state of mind, vampires are often known to compete with one another. There has even been cases in which several vampires have killed each other out of anger, jealousy, or greed. For these reasons, vampires are completely unable to be good in any way. They are the offspring of sin and evil. There has never been (and never will be) a benevolent vampire. The chemistry within their minds actually alters upon being infected with the vampiric disease.

Vampires are not united for a common cause. They once owed allegiance to Judas Iscariot, their “Blood Prince”. However, they are now separated and mostly act for their own self-interest. Some wish to gain political power. Others wish to remain secluded from public eye. All have their own interests and agendas.

Vampires are united, however, by their respect for the first Agent of the Devil; they all refer to themselves as “Sons and Daughters of Judas”. To insult Judas is to insult their most revered hero.

The Order of the Dragon

Founded in 1408 by several European nobles, the Order of the Dragon is the world’s most prominent vampire hunting institution. Although it originally began as a Christian organization, the Order accepts members of every race and major religion (such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, and several others). While it was once a public body, the Order has sunken into secrecy and is considered a mere legend by the public.

The Order of the Dragon has around 700,000 members worldwide. They have survived throughout the centuries through the practice of a 10 Laws of the Dragon (modeled off of the 10 Commandments):

1. Thou shalt not dishonor thy Order.
2. Thou shalt bear hatred towards the Agents of the Devil.
3. Thou shalt not harm thy brothers and sisters in arms.
4. Thou shalt not make accusations of vampirism without approval from thy Justice.
5. Thou shalt not place personal troubles before thy Order.
6. Thou shalt not covet thy brother’s possessions.
7. Thou shalt shun the seven deadly sins.
8. Thou shalt obey the laws of God.
9. Thou shalt not expose the existence of thy Order.
10. Thou shalt follow the law of thy nation, yet place thy Order before thy nation.

To disobey one of the Laws of the Dragon is a crime above all others and is punishable by death. The Order of the Dragon can be considered an extremist organization. While acting for the greater good of mankind, it places a heavy burden on its members and could even prove a burden to itself.

Members of the Order have an organized ranking system. These ranked are listed below (from most important and influential to least):

-Grand Master
-Commandant
-Justice
-Master Hunter
-Captain
-Chief
-Hunter
-Layman

The Order is governed by 10 Grand Masters, followed by a council of 100 Commandants. 50,000 Justices serve under the Commandants. Justices decide whether or not to accuse a suspect of vampirism based on collected evidence presented by the Hunters’ Laymen, and therefore sanction the suspected vampire’s death. Several Master Hunters serve each Justice, and command the field officers (composed of Captains and Chiefs). Hunters serve as the primary foot soldiers of the Order. They are assisted by their Laymen, whom they train to advance to the rank of Hunter.

The Order maintains secrecy even within their own ranks. The identities of the 10 Grand Masters and the 100 Commandants are completely unknown to all Order members under the rank of Justice. The identities of the Justices are only known to the Master Hunters. All members from the rank of Master Hunter downward, however, are made aware of one another’s identities.

Even to become a Layman requires a huge amount of work and trust. Hunters usually give potentials several tests of trust before making them official Laymen of the Order. A Hunter shares a similar relationship to his or her Layman as a knight does to his squire.

Freelance vampire hunters are frowned upon by the Order of the Dragon and are usually sought out to either be recruited or eliminated. The Order views the knowledge of the vampires’ existence as a threat to public stability and peace. They believe freelance hunters may have the potential to reveal the secret of the vampires and cause widespread chaos.
Order members are well-trained in martial arts and with weapons of their own choosing. They are also required to have several degrees from an educational college within the Western Hemisphere. All Hunters are trained to be extremely physically fit in order to take down their mighty adversaries, who overpower them in almost every physical aspect.

Many influential members of society (such as politicians, nobles, judges, and military officers) are secretly members of the Order of the Dragon. However, members are also comprised of commoners who are trying to make the world a safer place. Because of the values generally held by the people of this era, there are FAR more male members than female members of the Order.

The Rules

1. Whatever I say goes. I'm the mob boss of this RP. I'm the Al Capone of the family.
2. NO GODMODDING. AT ALL!
3. Romance is allowed. But nothing graphic. Post nothing that would make a cute little old lady feel uncomfortable reading.
4. When it comes to violence, you can be graphic. But don't cross the line of being weird/gross.
5. No one liners. None.
6. Use good grammar. If you're not very good at speaking English, please don't join. It's nothing personal. Please don't be offended. It's just a little frustrating to some people when a player can't organize their words correctly. Thanks! :)
7. Every character must at least somehow understand English. It's hard to RP when characters aren't unified by at least one form of communication.
8. Every vampire will be a challenge to bring down. They are incredibly powerful. One hunter will not be able to take down 5 vampires at once. That's just the harsh reality. So no "He swung his blade and killed two of the beasts" posts. Those two beasts can kick more ass than you can imagine. The same goes for those of you who will be playing vampires. Your characters will be strong, but you're not supermen. Hunters are trained to kill your ass.
9. Gender roles existed in this time period. Keep that in mind while creating your characters -- especially those of you who are making female Hunters.
10. Have fun!

ACCEPTED CHARACTERS

COMMONERS

Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal: The well-educated and devout Archbishop of Mainz, Friedrich is a cunning man of an aristocratic upbringing who has devoted himself entirely to his religious beliefs. Given his origins in the upper class, he is a skilled swordsman and is familiar with the use of rifles. As a significantly high-ranking clergyman, the Archbishop of Mainz is aware of a darker presence in the world...but he has yet to bring down a Son or Daughter of Judas.

FREELANCE HUNTERS

James O'Riley: A vengeful mercenary whose crimes chased him out of his native lands in Ireland. Having everything he loved torn away from him by the ferocious jaws of a vampire, he now devotes his life to destroying the foul Sons and Daughters of Judas for good. He currently works under the employ of the French in Paris. O'Riley has high hopes of using his influential position as an officer to root out the monsters in France's capital.

Halina Lipski: A passionate young noblewoman from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with a taste for revenge for her brother's murder. Though she slays the monstrous beasts with a blazing fury, she is a new and inexperienced hunter who still finds herself trapped by the societal boundaries of her sex. With her family on the decline of heath, Halina is confused as to where to direct her life from here on. Hope of finding her brother's vampiric killer is beginning to fade.

ORDER OF THE DRAGON MEMBERS

Luke O'Kennedy: A young Master Hunter of Irish origin whom comes from a long line of vampire slayers. Seeking to spread the Order's influence into the Australian colonies, O'Kennedy resides on the treacherous shores of Sydney where he is attempting to bring down the Agents of the Devil and establish Order supremacy over the eastern colonies. A courageous warrior, Luke intends to slash into the flesh of the immortal beasts with pride.

VAMPIRES

Heinrich von Strach: An ambitious beast of ancient German lineage whom has nearly reached four centuries of age. The sire of uncountable amounts of spawn, Heinrich has taken to spreading his dark reign of death through both political and economic means. His hazardous mental instability is notorious even amongst his fellow vampires. Over the years, he has sought to overthrow the established societal order of mortals in order to gain personal control over his envisioned world of violence. He serves as a diplomatic figure in the newly founded United States of America, hoping to bend the young nation to his vile will.

Anthony, the Earl of Essex: The prized son of an English noble, Anthony has manipulated tens of international conflicts since the medieval era. In both the past and present, he has gained powerful influence through the siring great political figures. Amongst these figures are Louis XIV of France and, most currently, George III of Great Britain. As the recently crowned Earl of Essex (his ancestral title) and chief advisor to the vampiric King George, Anthony holds large amounts of political pull both within the British Empire and her spheres of influence.

Ishtar al’Mari: A monster of a witch who once stood beside Judas Iscariot himself during the crusades. Sired by Joseph, brother of the Betrayer, she became a devout disciple of the Blood Prince's cause and followed him into all forms of darkness out of unbreakable loyalty. Having witnessed Judas's death firsthand, she struggled to maintain his vampiric empire before finally slipping into Blood Rest to survive. Now awakened, Ishtar aggressively seeks out the supposed Second Blood Prince, whom she views as a usurper of Iscariot's throne.

I will be creating the IC thread once we have a sufficient amount of players. I'm hoping for some character diversity. The last time I did this RP, people posted some AWESOME applications! :)

Can't wait to get started!

Minor note; Jesus was not condemned to crucifixion by the Roman imperial authorities. Pontius Pilate said he found him guilty of no wrongdoing and it was the Sanhedrin that convicted him.

True, Pilate did not find him guilty of any true crime. Though the Sanhedrin pressured him to condemn Jesus. They convinced Pilate to do this by stating that Jesus's "self-proclamation" as King of the Jews (which the Son never did) threatened Roman rule over Israel. Pontius Pilate condemned Christ because of political pressure, not because of a belief that Christ was guilty.

Full Name: Felix Terenze de Malta
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Year Sired: 1784
Appearance in Human Form: (sry but it's going to be modern)
Occupation : Thief
Skills: Pickpocketing, Lock picking, Hiding/Sneaking
Weaknesses/Fears: Left arm was broken but never healed properly, Fear of confrontation, Fear of human government(guards and crap), Fear of loud noises
Biography: It is said that the name Felix comes from the Latin words Felicis which stands for luck. If this is true then Felix Terenze de Malta most certainly lives up to his name. The boy had been trapped in burning buildings, had his arm broken by a large man, and almost hit by cannon balls...twice and this was all before the tender age of 10. All of this luck may have something to do with the "buckets" of charisma the boy has. The boy definitely makes the fit for being a vampire or Vampyr if you don't believe me keep reading.
Felix grew up in a home where his parents loved him and always provided a lavish lifestyle for him. His parents taught him that the three most important things in this world are money, family, and power in that order. These lessons made Felix greedy and a tad bit selfish, but you'd never know these things unless a large amount of money was involved. One day they were on a trip to Urbino when the came into rough waters throwing the ship massively off course. After that they were attacked by pirates who sunk the boat. He and another young boy were to sole survivors. They pulled themselves out of the water and using the last bits of money they had bought a room in Ferrara. They desperately needed money and began to start stealing food from markets and money when it was left unprotected. Felix was better at this kind of thing that the boy this manifested itself when they robbed a store and he was captured by the guards. Felix ran and decided that mainland Italy was no longer for him so he traveled to Venice.
On the way he broke into a very expensive house and the owner's wife hit him on the head and he blacked out. When Felix finally woke up the a man had him tied to a chair and asked him if he wanted fortune beyond his imagination. Of course Felix said yes and he was bitten. Alessandro taught him how to use his vampire powers on various animals around the town. Then one night he fed for real this time and when he got home he was elated he had a family he was safe.
Every three days Felix travels to a nearby brothel and feeds on the...(can I use that word in the rp) they were a waste of space anyway. Living with his mother and father he sits in the lap of luxury once again and this time no one can take it away from him. He roams the streets still pickpocketing lock picking and being a thief but he never sells things he hordes in a massive vault hidden outside of town. I mean I know where the vault is but what would be the purpose of telling you where it is? And Felix really wouldn't like if you took it or not He is particularly evil when well personal gain is involved.
Family: Alessandro and Maria (adoptive parents)
Personality : Charismatic and calculated, Generous, Outgoing

(Question are these vamps human blood only or all living things with blood)

Happy to see interest! :)
However, three things: Firstly, your bio and personality should be expanded upon more. Without extra detail, your character may seem static and flat Secondly, Secondly, I suggest making your character a bit older. It's not a downright requirement, but a character of such an age would not be treated equally by the societies of either man and vampire. He would be looked upon as a child. But that's fine if you're okay with it. Thirdly, in the "Year Sired" section, I meant the actual year the vampire was sired. Do you mean he was sired in 1784, or the year 1 AD?

If you make these suggested changes, I'll happily welcome you onboard! And to answer your question, vampires prey on all blood. But human blood is their true addiction. They cannot resist it. Animal blood does not sustain them. Without human blood, the vampire will grow to become more frail and weak.

Keep the apps coming, everyone!

Great! Now if you could just expand the bio a few paragraphs, that would be perfect. I don't mean to be a pain in the rear about that, but longer bios give me more to work with as far as the main storyline goes. ;)

Sure did! I couldn't keep up with the last one. I had too much control over it. This time, everyone has freedom. Please, sign up if you wish! :)

Hmm...even in small doses, that could give you a hugely unfair advantage. I don't know about that. For now, I'm gonna have to say no.

It wouldn't help him in combat or allow him to see big events or change anything it would only give him brief visions of a possible future and I'd only use it in the RP for setting up my vampire to be a prideful rich guy due to his ability to keep track of the stock market and such.

Alright, if you use it in that sort of way and give it a plausible backstory, I'll allow it. ;)

And just to clarify: The bios have to be around 5 paragraphs each, everybody. That's what I mean by "add length". It not only offers me more to work with when it comes to the main storyline, but it also shows me your capabilities as a writer. The posts in the IC will be long and detailed. Even when your characters aren't talking, they're still bound to have thoughts, emotions, opinions, and even small physical movements. Think of how people are in real life. ;)

Plague of the Vampyr: 1785 (Vampire RP, OOC/Sign-Ups, OPEN!)

Postby Logistica Suprema » Thu Jul 24, 2014 12:17 am

Full Name: Legally: Heinrich von Strach. ("Hein" rhymes with "nine." "Rich" is pronounced like "reich." "Ch" forms a "k" sound.) Self-styled: Henri de Veteur. ("eur" makes a long "errr" sound). Self-awarded titles: Le Dieu-Roi, Roi de France, Roi d'Allemand. (Literally: The God-King, King of France, King of Germany.) Popular styles: Le Animaux Blanc. (Literally: the White Animal.)
Gender: Male
Age: 382 (Born: 1402 Amos Domini)
Year Sired: 1427 Amos Domini
Appearance in Human Form:

Occupation (If any, keep it realistic.): A merchant made rich in Hamburg, disposed. Has a small estate in America with a large fortune, nothing astronomical as compared to before. A delegate for the state of Maryland.
Skills: A fluency in German, French, Spanish, Italian, and English. Charisma and a good sense of rhetoric, as needed of a disposed merchant. The raving intellect of a vampire. Political connections in the state of Delaware and in the capital, Washington D.C..
Weaknesses/Fears: Agateophobia, the fear of insanity (results in a distain for insane and unintelligent people). Atelophobia, the fear of imperfection, and atychiphobia, the fear of failure (results in severe insecurity). Hadephobia, the fear of Hell, and necrophobia, the fear of death and dead things (results in a desperate need to remain alive, nearing insanity).
Biography: If you were to ask him of his past, Henri de Vexeur would reply that even Zeus, God of Gods, had a past that was not desirable. In truth, Henri would be evading your question. His past was much worse than the past of Zeus.

Henri was not born Henri, but Heinrich, son of Johann von Strach and Antoinette de Vexeur. His father's House, as they called it, had once been large, powerful landholders in the region of Hamburg. Men had bowed to them by the thousands, in large armies that followed House von Strach after none but the Kaiser, ruler of all of Holy Rome. They had fought and died for the empire, for the fatherland, for glorious Germany! So one could imagine that Johann von Strach, indebted, obsessed with alcohol, violence, and sexual conquest, was not happy with the nature of things in the beginnings of the fifteenth century. For it was then that Hamburg rose, but not on the backs of the nobility. No. Hamburg rose on the backs of merchants, and left the nobility behind.

And from these merchants we see the coming of Henri's mother, who, unlike his tradition father, came from a new brand of people. She was of a merchant family wealthy beyond belief, but young. Seeking to gain access into trade with the nobles of Hamburg, sometime reserved for only the Germans of the area before, the House de Vexeur sent their daughter Antoinette to wed Johann von Strach, promising a dowry higher than any noble could ever pay. Johann, begrudgingly, agreed.

Henri was not the spawn of love and joy, but political matrimony. Johann, forever wishing for the revival of the glorious Holy Roman Empire's might, was staunchly opposed to the concept of wealthy merchants with the power of nobles. Antoinette, forever wishing to push society from the dark ages of time in which none but the right-blooded ruled, was staunchly for the merging of the classes. Henri, in a way, was her wish granted.

He was raised to be a warrior, like his forefathers, to smite foes with the blade. Johann, too poor for a man of hire, taught Heinrich by himself, and showed the boy no mercy in his teachings. It was more destructive to Henri than helpful and, under the harsh ridicule of his father, Heinrich here developed his fear of failure. He sought the guidance of his mother in the hopes that she could help him, but her actions would do no such thing. Antoinette believed in a greater good. If her son was not part of that, he became a necessary sacrifice.

Henri's mother quickly began to groom him for the management of men and money. Using her own dowry, against Johann's will, Antoinette began forming powerful mercantile tiles with the merchants of England, France, and Germany. Even the Danish traded with her, but to a lesser extent, for Antoinette once said to Henri, "If what they offer you in trade is steel, foodstuffs, and beasts of war, why should we, merchants of gold, spices, and exotic creatures entwine ourselves with them?" She taught Henri all she knew, and Johann taught Henri all he knew. The divide grew larger and larger, Antoinette forcing her son to take the wrath of his father (which was more psychological than physical, but physical indeed) for the greater good of their future. She planned on building a trade empire. Nothing would stop her, not even the safety of her son.

When Henri came of age, that being sixteen, he fled. He did not love his mother, and he hated his father. He sought out a new family, one that would bring peace about the world--one, he knew, that would upon the ideas justice and equality. This is when Henri dropped the name of Heinrich. In the diary he kept as he traveled, he said, "I took my mother's French culture, and left behind my father's German one, not because of the love I bore for either, but because of the symbols they represented." Henri, though he found no love for his mother, always respected her. He knew she had done what she had for the greater good.

His new family came in the form of the Order of the Dragon. They did not come to him, nor did he go to them--but instead he met them by chance in the earliest years of their forming, when they desperate for men. He first worked for them only knowing that they strove for "the purging of evil," which Henri held in the highest regard. He reasoned that an end to evil, an insurance of peace, would bring about in order in which the childhood he had had would not exist. Thus, he took on the burdens the Order gave to him, and became a trusted envoy, drifting between the merchants of England, France, and Germany with ease. With his help, the Order grew wealthier, and finally, their secrets were revealed to him. In full.

When they first told Henri, he had worked for them for three years and was then nineteen. His diary, which he still had, holds the emotions he felt when they told him: "And how was I--how is any being--to react? To be told, by some men with whom you hold no regard but business, that the beasts of Satan and Judas Iscariot roam the lands of God to purge the souls of men! Madness, raving madness! It cannot be abided, nor believed. Yet it must be. For it is real. There, I have said it! It is real! They walk amongst us. God save our souls."

For two years Henri was a de facto member of the Order, funding them through means no mere hunter could. His mercantile empire easily overpowered the might of his mother's, and soon his trade stretched to Spain, Portugal, and Italy, then Hungary, then the withered states of Greece. Venice and Hamburg did not acknowledge his might, but he was rich. Vastly so. And through his wealth, the Order grew.

When he was just twenty-two, the Order acknowledged him as a full member of their society. Though he could not fight, he was their strongest patron, and so he was awarded an honorary spot to vouch for them in the courts of the nations of Europe, should it be needed. His influence, like his wealth, spread far and wide. It swelled, and at twenty-three Henri was one of the richest men alive. His mother often wrote to him, begging him to come home, saying she regretted all she had done and that she was very much proud of him. But it was not enough. Henri's fear of failure, coupled with his wild ambition, convinced him that to be second was to lose. Here, he developed his fear of imperfection.

At twenty-five, Henri was a leading power in the western economy of Europe. He ruled from Paris, but had estates in all of the great ports: London, Marseille, Venice, Florence, Constantinople, Hamburg, and so many more. He was a king in all but name. He was in his glory. He controlled the seas, and he held sway with the Order. He furnished libraries and universities of untold number; orphans in the cities he had estates slept with full stomachs; women forced to sell themselves for money and men forced to beg found shelter in his poor houses. He convinced himself he was there. He had won. He was perfect. And then, the horrible truth. Once upon the top, one can only fall.

It had been a cool summers day when Henri died. He had been lounging in Paris, enjoying a normal day. For his power, he had never been molested by a vampire, lest that beast invoke the wrath of the Order. But there was a beast, more daring than the others, that knew Henri was not immortal. He set out to prove it, and nearly succeeded.

Henri did not remember being killed, but when he awoke, he wrote the following his diary: "My body sears and my mind is asunder! Fire runs about me as though I am Vulcan, and my limbs feel as though the weight of glaciers crushes them! I have only just returned from the horrible darkness, the darkness in which one is without in all forms save pain--for the pain, omnipresent, is like the most dreadful of fire! I feel as though my soul has been split in twain! And in the gap, I feel a hunger."

Henri committed his first murder five days later, mad from hunger for human blood. It was a messy affair and resulted in him fleeing Paris, returning to his home to find his father long dead and his mother aged. She was mad and under the care of a kindly man whom had managed her affairs. Henri proved himself to be her son, paid the man, and took over the business. He lied low for some years, feeding only as needed, praying one day his mother would know who he was.

But she never did. She died not knowing her son had returned to her, her one burning pride, and this is when Henri developed his fear of insanity. Henri had a large statue of her built in Hamburg, though it was later destroyed. He called it the Guide. Then, at once, he left Hamburg. In his diary he wrote one last entry: "I shall never be in the Blackness again." His fear of returning to death and hell grew to a near-manic state. In a fit of rage and fear, he threw the diary into a fire. To him, it was the death of his humanity.

Where other vampires may have had different experiences, Henri's was quite a ordered affair. His descent into the evil of vampirism began with the sin of envy. As he hunted through Germany, through France, through Italy, he began to target the wealthy. To him, they were a symbol of what he had once had. And what he desired again. But he also began to target men of state. For they, too, symbolized what he wanted. Wealth was no longer enough. He wanted power.

Next came the sin of wrath. So infuriated that he could not reacquire what he had lost, Henri went on killing sprees through the countryside of France where he knew the Order was the weakest. For three decades he molested Gascony and Aquitaine, purging entire hamlets in one crazed night of feeding. He has unnumbered spawn across France because of this time period in his life. At this time, his horror story began to spread through France. They even became to say prayers at night, to ward off le animaux blanc, as they called him. Perhaps it worked. For Henri had an epiphany while drinking from the neck of a pregnant woman in northern Aquitaine. And it was, he deserved more.

Thus came the sin of greed. Mad for power, Henri began establishing a power base of vampires through France. He targeted social prodigies and intellectual giants, converting them to his will and convincing them he was their king and their god. Oddly, he did not do this out of pride but out of necessity, for what beasts feared most was a god. He ordered his cult-like followers to call him one thing: le Dieu-Roi. The God-King.

Eventually, his actions could no longer be ignored. After almost a century of forming a small army of fifty vampires, all carefully manipulated to do his bidding, Henri's power was again toppled. But, oddly, it was not the Order who struck him down, but other vampires. Another vampire, hailing from northern France, came down onto Bordeaux, where Henri resided. Having an army of some two hundred, in one night it was over, Henri's followers slaughtered like lambs. This vampire claimed to work for the Second Blood Prince, but Henri did not know who that was nor care. During the fighting at Bordeaux, he fled to Marseille. From there, he sailed to Rome, where his fourth sin overcame him.

Gluttony was the worst of Henri's sins, for he could not stop himself. Here, he lost control, and entered into a deep depression. On some days he would eat simply to eat, and on others he would lie in the street doing nothing at all. He was followed to Rome by the man claiming to be the follower of the Second Blood Prince, but the man did not kill him. Seeing the dark state in which he lived, the man--a cruel vampire that had fully embraced the sin of wrath, to Henri--would not give him the mercy of death.

That thought, the thought that made death a mercy, provoked a manic attack in Henri. He feared death, but he feared failure more--yet he had failed, and had purged himself on the lives of so many others. He had gorged for no reason, willing to embrace the Blackness, his greatest nemesis. So this began a time of thinking for Henri, in which an even darker thought occurred. If he was willing to die, but afraid of it, was then he not trapped in an endless cycle of doom? His depression slipped into his next sin.

Sloth took him in the worst way possible. He literally refused to act, fearing the failure of the simplest things. In the streets of Rome he kissed the face of madness, and realized his fear of insanity. He began to curse in German at the passing Italians, and, should a German have been in the city, he would curse at them in Spanish. But he would do nothing. Several times, he did not quench his hunger and he simply lost control. Finally, another vampire stepped in. Worried he too would have to flee Rome if Henri revealed them, he forced him to undertake a period of Blood Rest. Henri, unwilling to bring himself to resist, obliged.

He was awoken some hundred years later. One of his first spawns had tracked him down, hoping that she would be rewarded for awakening him. Her reward was the beginning of his sixth sin. He left his depression behind when he awoke, for lust enveloped him. He raped and killed her in the catacombs of Rome, and this he did throughout the finest cities in the world. From Paris to Cairo, Henri would lure wealthy women to him. He would make them so obsessed with him that they filled him with all he desired, and this provided a temporary quench for his power as well as an unbridled filter for his lust for sex. Whenever he grew bored of the women (usually it was after a few months, and at the end of their relationship he became their tormentor, not their lover) he killed them. Finally, he decided he would make a goal of it. He would conquer a woman of Europe, a woman of Africa, and a woman of Asia--then he would move on. That is what he did, and he moved on to his final sin. Pride.

Pride he had suppressed for nearly three hundred years simply because he could not bear it. He had been perfect, so how could he be proud now? What had he to be proud of? But Henri, in the way he tread carefully on the string of madness, convinced himself again that his perfection had not left him--only his embodiment of the perfection had. So, convinced he would be an amazing ruler, he set out for political gain.

He won power across Paris, where he so desired to rule. He spread his influence, leaving Paris to win elections in Bordeaux, in Marseille, in all the great cities of France. Soon, he became obsessed with his power. He declared to himself, by the right of his French and German blood, that he was le Roi de France et Allemand--the King of France and Germany. Before he could publicize the thought, the Order found him.

The man was not as good a fighter as other members of the order were, and so Henri had slain him in a mild confrontation. Knowing, however, that the Order would then pursue him, he fled across the Atlantic, cursing his ill luck. He took part in both the French and Indian War as well as the American revolution, working as a diplomat both times. Eventually, he went to Washington, Maryland, deciding that he would sculpt the new nation to his will, only so he might take what was rightfully his.

For he was Henri de Vexeur, le Dieu-Roi, Roi de France, Roi d'Allemand. Not even God would stop him.

Family: Antoinette de Vexeur, mother, deceased. Johann von Strach, father, deceased.
Personality: . . . Is it suffice to say above?
Starting Location: Washington, Maryland, the United States of America (under the Articles of Confederation)

Bonjour et bonsoir! (You have to know me to get the French.)

Forewarning: Anything below this point is going to be either facetious, objectively irrelevant, fun RPs, or simply my personally ramblings.

I have learned how to exclaim my divinity in four languages. Soy un dios! Je suis un dieu! Ich bin ein Gott! I am a god! I find this to be proof of my divinity.

Anyway, some RPs:

Merci. And a few quick questions.

One: Are we starting on the first of January, 1785?

Two: What's the basic plotline you've in mind?

Three: To what degree are we allowed to alter history?
