March 7th 1920- The Fikotashi Stock Market, third largest in the world behind Weisiger and Rome crashes.
April 9th 1922- Food imports from Corn cease. Famine soon follows.
April 14th 1923- Emperor Kotaku announces an economic state of emergency in Dekarta
May 20th 1923- Dekartan government promises to pledge its malnourished, outdated, but large military to whomever agrees to help feed the Dekartan population. (First come first serve)
May 27th 1923- The Dekartan Imperial rebellion is formed within the city of Xia to attempt to combat and overthrow Kotaku's rule. They promise food, shelter, a repaired and more powerful empire.
June 2nd 1923- A communist protest demanding socialist reforms similar to those of Acro is crushed. 47 lay dead in Miro square after the Imperial guard is ordered to hush the protesters. News outlets are forbidden from reporting the incident. And the ideal of Communism is banned nation wide.

The great war was the first war in which all of the world was involved one way or another. As the world recovered and rebuilt, many old rivalries were thrown aside when the people of the east began to starve. And the governments began to fall (most notably the Dekartan Empire who lost Akari and with it, 80% of its farms and 50% of its exports)This jeopardized the whole world. But the war was over, the killing, finished. The final death tole was anywhere from 12-16 million lives lost with Reichsland Losing the most, an estimated 2 million. All was peaceful until the Xinese province of Corn revolted against their imperial rulers in Acro. Food exports to Acro slowed but grew as the rest of the world focused more on Industry, and reconstruction. The commonwealth were surviving on reperations from the eastern alliance while the eastern alliance were unable to pay them as the need for food from Corn grew as did the prices. And one day, all food exports stopped. This caused Dekarta to rush at finding new ways to feed their people. Trading wasnt an option as the food grown in other nations soil was being used to feed the people as they rebuilt. Cultivation the mountainous Dekartan islands was no use. Food grown in the colonies was simply not enough, and the fishing industry had not been prepared for such an event and was struggling to grow, and it had not prospered since the days of the first Asherta war. As the empire threw millions of dollars they didnt have into ways to feed the people that didnt work the economy was on the verge of collapse. Through this, the world suffered. Weaponry, fish, ships, cars, tanks, armor, lumber, steel, iron, gold, and coal were Dekarta's main exports. But when Emperor Kotaku announced an economic state of emergency, all exports stopped. The Dekartan horded their resources in an attempt to salvage the limping economy. But the ships soon sank, the fish went bad and were eaten, the weapons were out of date, and the stock market in Fikotashi crashed. The world economy would soon follow the Dekartans in total economic catastrophe as revolts, famine, and reconstruction continued throughout the globe.

March 1920

The Great War had taken a toll on the nation of Reichsland. The complete loss of Weingarten meant that a valuable trading center had been lost, and with it a large source of government revenue. The global economy was also taking a sharp downturn, which meant that there were fewer nations buying Landser goods and vice versa. This slow in trade caused the value of the Mark to spiral downward and as the value declined it dragged small businesses down with it forcing them to close their doors.

This in turn began to put people out of jobs, which led to them becoming entrapped within terrible living conditions. Those who could no longer afford to keep their homes or farms were forced to relocate to slums that had began to sprout around the outskirts of cities. The poor suffered greatly at the hands of the rich, who continued to get richer....That is until March 7th, a day that would live in infamy for years to come. On the Seventh of March, the stock market in Fikotashi, Dekarta experienced a catastrophic crash. What caused the crash is still unclear, but Dekarta is one of Reichsland's main trading partners and the crash had a severe impact on Landser Markets. When investors saw Dekarta's market implode, they began to blindly sell all of their stocks in hopes to salvage their money. By doing this, they only made the problem worse. Corporations lost their investment capital, which meant they lost the money on which they operated on.

As corporations started to hemorrhage money, some of their owners took to drastic means. Never before had they witnessed such a dark economic moment, and the thought of losing their way of life was too much. There were some who threw themselves out the windows of their offices, while others simply chose to shoot themselves. A great financial blow had been dealt to the nation, and it would not easily recover. Citizens also made runs on banks, and when they found out that their money was not there, they organized into angry mobs, vandalizing property.

Chancellor Geisler lay in bed, sick with illness. When he was advised on current events, he promptly let out a sigh and died. Thus was the death of the first Chancellor of Reichsland, and his replacement would be of great import in the history of Reichsland, although not for the better. His name was Albrecht Tirpitz, a former general in the Sturmwehr as well as a close friend of the former Chancellor. He was as cunning in politics as he had been on the battlefield. He knew that leading Reichsland out of this depression would be no easy feat, however he welcomed the challenge. He constantly thought of ways to at least slow the destruction of his beloved nation, and also how he could harness the discontent of its populace and use it to his advantage. As time progressed he developed several ideas. He finally developed his "Masterplan" and decided to begin its implementation as soon as he took office. This plan would eventually prove to work, but it would also cast a very dark shadow of this period of Landser history, for it would result in countless deaths of innocent people.

Albrecht was in his new study, looking at the latest economic reports and preparing for his official inauguration. He took a break and surveyed the wondrously furnished office. As he sat thinking about all of the history that had been made in this very room, his mind drifted back to how he had gotten here. It actually had began after he read the book "The Importance of Supremacy" when he was but a lowly corporal. The book had been written years ago but now its message had finally found a place in which fate would allow it to be finally fulfilled. All throughout the war he had promoted the idea that the Landser was the most ethnically pure people in the world. He denounced and despised every other ethnicity of people, especially those who they had been fighting against. Not many people had listened to him espouse his vitriol back then, but as he climbed the ranks, he began to affect more and more people with his ideals. Over the years, he had debated and discussed with various scholarly minds, and he used their input to hone his own supreme ideals.

Shortly after he had been promoted to Major, he had met Chancellor Geisler at an Officer's Gala which had been thrown for all high ranking officers. The Chancellor was entertaining guests as his private table, sharing drinks and laughter with them all. Tirpitz eyed them with jealousy, wishing that he had been invited to the Chancellor's table, and when he saw one of the guests get up, some unknown politician, he saw his chance.

He breathed in deeply and set off for the empty spot at the table. He wasted no time in sitting himself down and politely drawing his chair up to the table. It was only after he did so that he noticed everyone's eyes were transfixed on him alone. He was terrified on the inside but he didn't let it show. After a few awkward moments and what seemed like an eternity, Chancellor Geisler spoke. He had said "Well well, who have we here? A freshly minted major by the looks of it. It appears that he has commandeered old man Dietzl's chair as well. Seeing this crime you have just committed, I feel compelled to warn you that you should always watch your back now. He said this last part very sternly, as if he were trying to intimidate Albrecht. It worked, and it took Albrecht a slight pause to collect himself and respond. My sincerest apologies sir, I will leave at once. Although why do you warn me to watch my back? If you wished to kill me, would not surprise work more exponentially in your favor?" Geisler replied with a wry smile. " I don't wish to kill you sir, I merely meant that you should watch your back solely because I hear that Dietzl's walking cane inflicts quite a painful injury.". Immediately after the Chancellor added the punchline to his little joke, the entire table erupted into laughter. The other guests were not quite sure how the Chancellor was reacting as well, and they were almost as relieved as Albrecht was to find out that he had taken the interruption in such good humor.

After that, Albrecht fit right into the conversation. He knew the proper table manners and ways of speech due to the fact that he had been raised up as a member of the aristocracy. It was when the subject had turned to racial matters, that Albrecht's time had come to shine. He spoke greatly about the book he had read, and how his ideas had been shaped over time. The audience listened intently, sometimes nodding in agreement and at other times disagreeing most passionately. It was after the gala had ended and the Chancellor and Albrecht remained at the table, that Geisler spoke his mind. He told Albrecht that he wanted to learn more of his ideology and told him to begin reporting to the Palace every day so that they could debate his ideas further.

Four years of daily meetings and debates had passed and Albrecht had won much favor with the Chancellor. It was enough favor that Geisler named Albrecht as his successor, much to the surprise of the people and the government. "Fast forward time and here I am." mused Albrecht out loud to himself. Chancellor Tirpitz ceremonially took office on May 15th, although he had been in the position ever since his predecessor's death. At his inauguration he made the first of his great orations, speeches that would inspire and energize the people.

Citizens tuned in their radios to hear the fuzzy voice that came across the speaker..."It is with a heavy hear that I take this appointment to office, for it means that our beloved Chancellor is dead. Let us all take a brief moment to remember him before we continue......My fellow Landser, I know that our economy is suffering, but we are not the only ones. The world over is suffering, and it will be hard to overcome it, however if we stand together as a nation we shall stride forth into the future as a shining example of purity and power. Our nation will be the one that a people such as you deserve!...You are probably asking yourselves what caused this collapse, what caused this suffering? Listen to me and I will tell you who the culprit is. It is the race of people we know as the Levites!...Look around you, do you know of any Levite that is suffering? I can guarantee you that if a Levite is suffering, he is an exception to the rule. They own almost every business that survives in this chaotic morass, they take your money and secrete it away in their pockets whereupon they greedily hunger for more. It doesn't end there though, oh nay nay. The Levites are served by the drastic amounts of illegal foreigners here in our land.* We cannot function as a nation if we allow them to take our jobs and food. We must make our nation pure, and once we succeed we will see our nation prevail!

I have choicely appointed my cabinet members, and we are all collaborating with the Department of Trade and Finance to try and find viable solutions to get our people back to work with filled stomachs. Your government representatives are also working on counter measures to keep our nation afloat. I will keep you updated on new economic developments, for ours will be a nation in which our government and people walk hand in hand. I thank you for your support and I cannot put into words to adequately convey the amount of empathy I have with you in its entirety. May Horst bless us all!

(*The illegal foreigners are the Tethysian controlled areas that were previously part of Reichsland. The Landser still see them as belonging to Reichsland, and it angers them that there are Landser citizens under the control of another nation. )

Chancellor Tirpitz has signed the following into effect....

All trade restrictions have been lifted on all imported and exported goods. (Free Trade Act of 1921)
Tariffs have been reduced on foodstuff leaving and entering the country.(Free Trade Act of 1921)
All immigrants other than those with certifiable science, economic, engineering, or health professions are turned away. (Resource Conservation Act of 1922)

The Dekartan rebellion garnered much attention in Reichsland, and it made Chancellor Tirpitz decree that the populace be monitored and surveyed for any signs of insurrection or rebellious activity. This survey resulted in the following happening... Those who were proponents of so called Communism were immediately put under observation, for their ideology ran incongruous to the very system that Reichsland was based on. The adoption of Fascism by Avinaa was also closely monitored. The Landser government was not that worried about the rise of Fascism for it was similar to what they already used.

In March 1923 the Director of Trade and Finance initiated a new program known as the KevilliertGebildetFende (Civilian Rebuilding Fund). This fund set aside limited funds that would be used to build new roads and civil works projects. This in turn would put people back to work and actually pay them wages for their labor. The Chancellor signed a law into effect as well. It is known as the ReichsElektrizatBund (Reichsland Electricity Authority) It subsidized almost the entire nations electrical transmission infrastructure, which also meant that it built hydroelectric dams. The REB commissioned its first hydroelectric dam in August 1923 on the Rhyne River, south of the city of Rebbenholz. It will bring cheap power to the area as well open up new areas for manufacturing thanks to the close proximity to a major river for both logistics and production.

Reichsland still had a long way to go before the depression was over, but at least the symptoms were now beginning to be slightly alleviated. The unemployment rate of Reichsland as of August 1923 stands at 13.3%

"This morning, The 19th of July 1923, 19,000 rioters apart of the Socialist Party of Dekarta marched north from their self proclaimed capital of Fangtan to the center of a large Rebellious movement promising a new empire with reforms similar in scale to those in Reichsland. In Xia at least 16,000 men and women met with the socialists in various parts of the city, sparking fights and rioting. Hours into the fighting imperial soldiers marched through main street to quell the rebels but met heavy resistance. Fighting among the three sides continue all over the city and are spreading west and south to Fikotashi and regions surrounding Fangtan. Citizens are advised to stay in their homes and are to only answer their door if an official imperial soldier approaches. Harboring a rebel of either side will result in immediate incarceration."

-Newspaper clipping from the Fikotashi Times allowed to be published by the government. Quelling a rebellion is no longer possible, protecting the people and the government is the new priority.

Food from various nations arrive in the ports of Xia, Fikotashi, Fangtan, New Shengshi, Mutoroba, and Osari. The food is being distributed by the empire and both sides of the rebellion. Transports carrying food are high priority and are guarded with the lives of as many as 5 guards per food cart. Raids on the carts are being treated as acts of rebellion and are hindering many of the shipments abandoned. The food given to Dekarta helped save hundreds of thousands, but millions remain malnourished and starved.

As nations around the world suffered through severe economic problems Acro weathered through it well enough. At least until Dekarta dissolved into civil war. The trade lost damaged the Acronese economy. Socialist forces inside the Senate blamed this collapse on the pro-capitalist groups that had recently won control of the senate in the 1922 elections. In 1924 Socialist parties won landslide victories, getting 120 of the 135 seats. With the support of King Fabius, a socialist himself, the senators began passing multiple reforms to stop of bleeding. These reforms were widely successful and very popular with the middle-class. However when violent revolutionaries seized control of Corn the reforms that had finally stabilized the Acronese economy failed. The senators had not expected to loose Cornese trade.

If we can just convince the populace to give us more time, our new reforms will stabilize the economy. But it will not be instantaneous. Senator Dalian runs a hand through his prematurely grayed hair. There was no way to expect the revolution in Corn, your Uncle was doing marvelous things to fix the starvation.

I am very aware of this. But it doesn't matter, what matters is the situation here. Our men can deal with Corn, we are gathered her to deal with Acro. King Fabius shakes his head dismissively at the man, a bumbling fool Fabius though. If your reports are correct, 9% of our population are without jobs. 12% have either no home, or an unreliable place of residence. Fabius throughs the files onto the desk and turns away from the committee.

Place all essential businesses under control of the government. Producers of luxury products will have to survive by their own merit. Fabius turns back to the men, shocked faces greet him. Even for socialists, taking control of such a large number of businesses was unprecedented. The old order has failed, it is time for a new deal.

The New Deal: 1924

With the economy shrinking and the unemployment rate rising to a record 15% President Grant and his Fascist government unveiled a new strategy called "The Five Year Plan" they hoped this "new deal" would be like similar to the economic policies in Reichland, and Acro. He hopes this will lower unemployment, get small businesses back on their feet, bring Avinaa back from the brink, and get people back to paying taxes, all in five years. In the Plan, Grant's government would build new roads, dams, highways, post offices, schools, libraries, and other jobs, small businesses which make up about 55% of the economy will have a 155 Billion Dollar line of credit from the government, but with the nation's confers nearly empty the Plan will be mostly funded by the private sector, loans from Ionia, tax hikes on the wealthy, and tariffs on foreign goods. A new federal agency would be formed called the Department of Welfare and Economic Development to over see the implementation of The Five Year Plan.

In Bhai City, the governor of the Gujiyan Isles sat down upon the red sofa just feet from an ornate mahogany desk in his plush office. Looking at a veritable mountain of papers sitting on his desk, he sighed. He stood up to open the blinds, and look out across the street at the square below, but was distracted. He heard an assistant rushing down the hall towards his office, and just as the assistant opened the door, the governor resigned himself to his desk. “Here’s the Acronese tea you wanted, sir” the wiry, dark-skinned man said. The governor simply stared at sofa he had just sat in and decided not to address the young man. As soon as the tea was set upon his desk, the assistant bowed and left the office. The governor intensely scanned the pile of files, as if expecting it to contain something other than paper. Finally, he extracted from the stack the object he had been looking for, the Census report, finally compiled after the analysis began in 1920. The first row, in large numbers indicated the population of the Gujiyan Isles had climbed to 61,342,000 people. He always wondered how the census writers could ever be so accurate when there were so many born every day. However, that was not the information that he cared for, because below the total census was the ethnic breakdown. The population was 8% of Avinaan descent, too low in his opinion, roughly 5% of other foreign descent. 37% were ethnic Kochians, and those remaining were ethnically Bajelok. Every day, he knew, Avinaans left the colony for home. And with them, money flowed away from the colony. The island had been just fine during the war, supplying necessary tin and food, while being untouched. He was commended for his efforts in streamlining the war effort within his land, but now it all seemed pointless. Exports had all but halted, and everything had become just so expensive. On his way to work, the boarded up storefronts and market stalls bothered him, not to mention that the swarms of migrants waiting for day-labor work made him glad his car was modest and the windows darkened. He tucked the census report away, and toyed with the radio on his side table, but all he heard on his usual frequency was static. “I wonder who is responsible for this incompetence?” he thought, making a note to talk with the secretary of propaganda later. He had barely finished that thought, when his Secretary of Colonial Defense stormed in, the tall and fat man huffing as he strode in, offered a weak salute, and placed a brown file on his desk, nearly tipping the steaming teacup. “What’s the meaning of all this? Coming to my office unannounced and unkempt looking like you’ve just fought off a platypus-bear!”
“Sir, you must see this. This is of the utmost importance. My apologies for not maintaining my appearance, but I’m sure you realize that I could not have informed you earlier,” the man hastily said.
The governor stared at him with contempt for a moment, and then pointed at the file. “This had better be as important as you say. You are not doing yourself any favors by disrupting my busy schedule.” He opened the file, and the very first paper was a police report from the far off Chotho Island, part of the Palthu province. The report came from a police chief, and stated that the tribal militia, usually operating under the jurisdiction of the Avinaan military, had destroyed several lookout posts, raided a remote listening station, and targeted him and his men as they retreated towards the naval base on the island. The governor tossed it aside, tense. The next paper in the file was a telegram from the manager of the Chotho Naval Base, explaining that armed men had barricaded the streets surrounding the harbor, but his men were protecting the harbor and the naval base from further vandalization. He said that communications with the other town on Chotho were completely down, saying “I see smoke billowing from the other side of the island. Stop. I cannot comment on the situation there as communications are down. Stop. I fear the worst given what we have seen this far. Stop.” The governor looked up at his secretary, anger clearly creasing his face. “Sir, the last report is the most important,” the secretary said tiredly, as he flopped onto the sofa. The last report was of a police officer in the city of Pul, on Chotho, brought by boat to Bhai City by a small naval vessel. The report was made by the same police chief that had failed to protect the listening post. After seeing the barricades and hearing gunshots as they approached the naval base, they turned around and headed to the town. Minutes after they arrived, he said, the town was under siege from nearly 300 militia men. Gunfire roared through the streets, and police, soldier, and civilian alike scrambled for cover. He said that it was 11PM when this message was sent to warn the capitol, and that at that time, city hall had been lost. He said that he had ordered his men to construct burning barricades to slow the advance of the enemy, but it had largely failed as fighter wove their way through alleyways and buildings to get past them, and the fire had spread through several city blocks. He said that his 50 men were isolated and backed up against the water, and that the intense firefight in the street in front of the police station, which had raged for four hours at the time of writing, showed no sign of stopping.
The governor put the report down and sat back in his chair. He looked to his secretary, who was fiddling with his handkerchief and trying to fix his hair at the same time. “Who else knows about this?”
“As far as we known, no one knows about this except the communications officer at the Naval Base.”
“Good. Keep it that way. No one can know that an Avinaan naval base is under serious threat from these insurrectionists. Hopefully we can keep this a Chotho problem, and not a Gujiyan problem.”
“What should we do? As far as we know the entire island could be lost.”
“What do we know!? We know that we have been attacked!” the governor shouted. At that moment, the radio crackled to life. The governor jumped; he had forgotten he had turned it on. On the radio, a rustling could be heard. Then, a deep, husky voice whispered, “Is it on? Can I be heard?” The man sounded sick, and very out of breath. The man then spoke directly to the radio, his mouth obviously too close to the microphone, his breathing very conspicuous. “This is a message for Governor Durronius, but we have taken the liberty to broadcast this message over all channels. By now you must have heard of the little incident on Chotho Island from your secretary, whose car is quite easy to spot among the dirty streets. We have the Center for Telephone and Telecommunications building under our control, and your friend the Secretary of Propaganda right here in front of us. Hopefully he can persuade you to recognize the Gujiyan National Congress and the people of Gujiya as the true masters of their own fate.” Shots suddenly ring out over the city, uncomfortably close to the colonial palace where the governor’s office is. He and his secretary rush to the window to see a crowd of at least five thousand just five blocks from the square pushing against the police wall. Banners saying “Down with Avinaa,” “Long live the GNC,” and “Free Gujiya” are common among the crowd. Shots are fired into the air by the police, nervously backing away.

The situation: A firefight rages on on Chotho and the naval base is under siege. Riots are breaking out in the capitol. The GNC has declared Gujiya independent after years of trying to compromise with the government of Avinaa. Avinaa must now decide how to address what is being called The Gujiyan Problem.

With the crisis now hitting again Ionia was going through another nightmare. While more prepared than last time the Ionians show the crisis ravaging their exports. The once proud merchants and sailors of Ionia found their seed rotting and their ships stuck at port. The new fascist government started attacking foreign business and immigrant or non-Ionian workers both at home and in the colonies. Ionian business was promoted. Civilian Corps were created in the military to undertake public works projects, giving jobs to thousands of Ionians. Ionian factories, shipping companies and agricultural groups hired only Ionians. Foreign products saw heavy taxation while in the colonies arable land was only given to Ionia and all foreigners were removed. Thousands of Acronese were sent back to Acro and given 1,000₯ compensation for their belongings, while their homes and any belongings left behind were confiscated. The Ionian currency was based again on gold, which was in great supply in Ionia and her colonies. Lastly the government hailed the rise of similar authoritarian regimes in Avinaa and Reichland and invited them to form an alliance known as the Triple Axis or Tripartite Agreement of Mutual Friendship and Cooperation.

President Grant after hearing of the GNC revolt ordered a force of 8 ships* and 7,000 men** to the naval base to assist the besieged troops already there, he hoped that the well armed professional army of Rome would be able to withhold what was to him a loosely armed revolt.

February 16, 1924

The Chancellor walked briskly through the hall of the palace, pondering about what to do with the Communists. They had begun staging rallies now, and were gaining more support each day. He knew that he had to fix the problem soon or he would have more problems on his hands. It was at the elections of the new Kongress members that the full extent of their influence was discovered. They won 9 seats in '24. This alarmed the Chancellor to such an extent that he met with the director of the Verstung(Secret Police) and made arrangements to have Communist party members be put under special investigation. They were to watch the growth of this new party with extreme scrutiny and report back to the Chancellor with any new developments.

The Propaganda machine was also in full gear, focusing the people's discontent with the economy on the Levite population. This led to sporadic boycotts of Levite merchandise in some major Northern cities. This was just the beginning of what would be a very dark place in Reichsland's history. The people also began to call for the return of Tethysian land to Reichsland's control. A strong surge of racially and ethnically charged nationalism was beginning to grow within the Landser, and it would reach its boiling point in the next few years.

Kongress passed a resolution for the Chancellor to reach out to Kestrael and attempt to negotiate the return of Landser property, and though they had no real authority over the Chancellor, he deemed it wise to listen to them. He drafted a message that would be sent to the leaders of the Tethysia....

To the leaders of the Kestraelian Government,
I humbly ask that you open yourselves to negotiation for the peaceful return of the lands that formally belonged to the nation of Reichsland. I understand that you conquered these lands during a time of war, however I am sure that given our current economic situations it would behoove you to dispense with this unnecessary foreign administration. Neither of our nations can currently feasibly facilitate any form of prolonged aggression, and I assure you that we will not use this land as a place of attack against your nation. We merely wish to unite our nation wholly, back to its former self.

When Ionia offered Reichsland the chance to join in alliance, the Chancellor knew that he would be a fool not to do so. He drafted another message to the Ionian government acknowledging their request and affirming that they would join wholeheartedly. The Ionians had once been hated by the Landser, but the things they had done to show their sorrow for what had transpired in Weingarten during the war had drastically improved their reputation. In order to reinforce that image, and assure the populace that such a move was a wise one, the Chancellor issued a short radio message.

"My fellow citizens, I cannot tell you the immense joy it brings me to announce this newest development to you. The Ionian Government had extended an offer of alliance with our great nation. This is a wonderful thing, and if there were any other ethnicities as great as ours, it would surely be that of the Ionian. It has also been extended to the Acronese, our old allies. Surely they would stand on the same footing as us as well. If Acro, then these three great nations shall form a grand Axis of Power. It will be known as the Triple Axis, or the Tripartite Agreement of Mutual Friendship and Cooperation. As always I count on your continued support and trust, and I pray that I will be the leader you deserve and need. Horst bless you all...

With the Chancellor proclaiming the greatness of the new alliance, as well as the government news outlets, the populace supported the alliance mightily. A wave of renewed respect and friendship for Ionians and Acronese swept across Reichsland. The town of Arnhem even held a parade celebrating the Ionian and Acronese cultures.

The terrible effects of the Great Depression were still being felt all across the nation however, and this cut celebrations short. Food was becoming more scarce by the day, and a lot of the bakers had taken to selling their fare at exorbitant prices. This prompted the Department of Finance to pass new regulations that subsidized several bakeries and put them under temporary government control. This was followed by the implementation of a government handout known as Reichsbrot* (Nation Bread). It was comprised of cheap ingredients and tasted awful, but at least the people had something to eat. The reparations that were being paid to the former Commonwealth nations was a valuable source of capital that could be better used at home. The Chancellor signed a law into effect that postponed the payment of these reparations for 5 years. The effects that this would have on those affected nations remained to be seen. If they wanted to continue receiving their payments from Reichsland, then they must understand that there has to be a Reichsland in order to pay. Hopefully this logic would be lost on the nations that the Landser was indebted to.

"Today the Imperial rebels stormed Miro hall. Some people returning from the front lines say they've taken emperor Kotaku prisoner and have him in custody. Others say the emperor faught along side his men in a last stand. The government hasnt showed such comradery since the socialists were destroyed 4 years ago. Mother and father still dont know about Jikachi's death on the fields of Kugow heights, but when they see that their son died with honor and valor for our family, they will remember him as a national hero as every Dekartan citizen should for every soldier who faught for them."

President Grant was on a national tour of newly made factories to promote his new economic strategy and also make clear his opposition to complete nationalisation of industry ahead of the Strategic Economic Forum which is planned to be held in Gori City in May 1929. On his 45th speech that day security was light as he was addressing a perceived crowd of loyalists, after his great speech is walked among the people hearing their concerns when a man in a trench coat pulled out a gun and shot the president two times in the chest and once in head, killing him. The man's name is not known, he was a member of the National Front for Democracy(NFD), and most importantly he was a member of the protestant minority.

Vice Presiden Cedric Howe who was on a state visit to Reichland at the time was immediately flown to Rome and was sworn in as President of the People's Republic becoming the first protestant to be president. Later that week he convened the Central Committee of the Fascist Party(the most powerful committee) and was unanimously chosen to succeed Grant as Secretary-General of the party, but in a controversial move he appointed his most trusted advisor and fellow protestant Gregory Olov as the new Chairman of the Central Comm. he also appointed a protestant as his new vice president and high commissioner for military affairs. This was especially dangerous to the president has he excluded the Roman Catholic majority and the military from real power, as in a de facto division of power the President was a Catholic, the VP and Central Comm. chair was a protestant, and the military appointed the High Commissioner for Military Affairs, President Howe dismissed all of that and put protestants in all real positions in power. He also pushed for more government action in the economy and reshuffled his cabinet(putting protestants in charge of key departments). These actions would set the stage for the Second Reformation of Christianity on Aysling.

In Ionia there was increasing resentment between the Military High Command and the Paramilitary divisions. The military did not trust the TE nor the Nationalist Government while the various branches of the military had different degrees of loyalty to the government. The Army was made up of Centrist veterans of the Great War that had preferences for a Democratic government and would take chances to overturn the government but would not compromise national security. The Navy was made up of Democratic Socialists and Leftists and sought to overturn the government at any chance while the Air Force, formed and improved under Nationalist rule was as loyal to the party as it got. Dissidents continued to be sent to rocky islands in the Archipelago or Labour Camps in the deserts of the colonies but no plot was possible at the time. On August 4th a small leftist attack failed to incite a larger revolt as it had hoped and instead was put down almost instantly with great violence. Thus the Kratiki Asfaleia, State Security, Ionia's Secret Police got even larger authority and the life and work of those resisting both at the military and in civilian life got even harder.

As the great depression continued throughout to cripple the global economy, despite progress in Acro and several countries. A number of people used this time of hardship to push their ideologies upon the PUBLIC. One of these radicals is a young man by the name of Titinius Septus, secretary of propaganda for the underground fascist party Iron Eagle, a party banned from the senate elections after they advocated the killing of minority group inside the kingdom, deeming them unfit to live among true humans. Titinius Septus wrote a short manifesto describing the goals of the party, and the BOOK has been spread among the fascist groups of the nation.

The Director of Trade and Finance sat in an office chair within the Chancellor's office, a day after Vice President Cedric Howe of Avinaa rushed back home. The Director spoke My Kanzler, it appears that Avinaa acknowledges our temporary cessation of reparation payments. Their President even went as far as writing off 10% of our outstanding debt to them. This is a marvelous sign of cooperation and it will serve to bolster your image even further with the people. With this newfound source of wealth, we will be able to fund more stimulus programs. Tirpitz interrupted the Director here..."I will tell you now that not all of that money will be going to your stimuli. There will be a portion of this money that is folded back into weapons research. We have to upgrade our arsenal as soon as possible while the rest of the world is too weak to effectively stop us. This will be a black budget, and no word of our rearmament is to be released to the outside. I am putting you in charge of allocating the money to where it needs to go, but Artemis Bohr* will need every penny he can get if we are to upgrade our military. Director Haskell made sure that the Chancellor was finished before he affirmed that he would perform the actions the Chancellor had ordered. He then excused himself so he could retire to his own study and begin to draw up a new budget.

The Chancellor looked down at the paper that Mr. Howe had left for him. It was a formal invitation to the Strategic Economic Forum which would be hosted in the city of Geori. Delegations from Ionia and the Federation would also be present. If Reichsland wanted to help bring the world out of economic collapse then this was the chance for it to do so. The Chancellor drafted a reply to the invite...

I congratulate you on your becoming President. I am sure that you will lead your nation to greatness and reserve a large portion of the history books for your wondrous deeds. In regards to the Economic Forum, I accept the invitation to join. I look forward to our nations working side by side in the future. A law is signed into effect (The Origins Act) by the Chancellor that orders every Levite present within Reichsland to wear a Shield of Levi patch on their outermost garment, so that it may be easily viewed. The law also mandates that every article of merchandise manufactured by Levite companies be stamped with a Shield of Levi, to inform the purchaser the origin of the item. This legislation demands that every Levite to sign a national registry that allows the government to know where every Levite in the nation is. The Penalty for not signing is a year in prison. The Levites find no support from the populace thanks to the efforts made by the Government News Channels to spread its message of hate. It is also part of the Levites' religion that they do not fight back against the government, and since they are not technically being physically abused, they see no reason to fight back. Many Levites actually consider it a great honor that they are beginning to suffer persecution for their beliefs, much like Levi himself faced.

Its in June 1926 that construction on the first concentration camp begins. It is located in deep forests outside of Olmsheid. Construction is expected to be complete within a year. Its intended function is to serve as a prison camp, for Levite convicts. As a sub part of the Origins Act, Levites are deemed unfit to serve their time in normal Landser prisons and as such will be relocated. This program does not receive much funding, and engineers only plan to construct one more prison camp until the economy improves. The Chancellor is taking his time and being careful not to rush things. He is discreetly laying the groundwork for his plans of racial superiority, one piece at a time. He also orders that copies of the Landser book The Importance of Supremacy and the Acronese book Purity of Race: The Subhuman Problem be made free to everyone. The Propaganda Agency goes through the Acronese book and removes or changes anything that would construe the Landser or Reichsland in a negative way and creates a government approved version of the book. This is the version currently being printed in Reichsland.

*Artemis Bohr is the son of famed Ernst Bohr, owner of Bohr Weapons Works. Ironically his mother is of Levite descent, and the Chancellor is kind enough to write a personal letter of exclusion for the Bohr family.

The Ypatos had gathered the members of the Ionian Government to the Ypatic Mansion, formerly Presidential Mansion during Ionia's period as a Presidential Republic, to discuss important matters of state. The Ypatos ordered the establishment of the Hephaestus Institute, a government top secret research center whose purpose would be to create unmatched technologically advanced weaponry for the Ionian military to use. The Institute, which came under the command of Ydra, the scientific division of the TE, Ionia's Ultranationalist paramilitary forces, immediately begun work on products like a new helmet to replace the Brodie Mk. II and Adrean helmets, a new rifle to replace the M1917 US Enfield, various vehicles and planes and even new uniforms and lethal gasses. In the uniform part they were helped by the Raptis Tailor Company which was run by party members-entrepreneurs resulting in the production of very well looking, intimidating and very practical and advanced combat uniforms and helmets.

Hundreds of years ago the king of Corellia had given away the independence of their great kingdom away in exchange for vast sums of money. As one could expect people of Corellia did not take kindly upon this greed and crowds stormed his home and lynched him from his gate post. However it was to late to fight back against the oppressors that now occupied their country. They were deemed a colony, an egregious insult to the pride of the people of Corellia. However as their oppressors joined an enormous union of nations knows as the federation the people of Corellia could not hope to fight the seemingly innumerable soldiers of the Federation Army.

A man lies bloodied and bruised in an alley. At his feet lie dozens of pamphlets emblazoned with the Corellian flag, proclaiming the words Corellia will be free! Carrying material such as this was dangerous, as all literature that supporting independence for Corellia was strictly banned by the Federation. The man, who is named Dorian Viktor made the mistake of giving the pamphlet to an undercover officer. Several minutes after doing so 3 officers confronted him and beat him bloody. As he returns to consciousness Dorian gingerly puts a hand to his temple, a sharp pain goes through his body and his hand comes back soaked in blood. A quick proding of his chest reveals at least 2 broken ribs. Gathering up his pamphlets Dorian hurries from the alley, eager to leave before more officers arrive to give him a second beating.

Dorian stumbles through the slums that have came to dominate Corellia since the economic collapse a few years before. The federation had refused to help in the slightest, condemning tens of thousands to starvation. Dorian feels eyes watch him through dirty windows and ramshackle curtains. The sight of a broken man is unfortunately not an uncommon sight as of late, as the federations brutality has increased dramatically. As he finally arrives at his destination he knocks twice in rapid succession and is greeted by an opened door. A tall man holding a sawn-off shotgun fills the doorway, finger poised on the trigger. When the giant recognizes Dorian he lowers the gun and pulls him in for a tight hug. Dorian cries out in pain and feels one of his ribs push through his skin.

Hell, Dorian I am so sorry, are you okay? The giant has a surprisingly soft voice and he helps Dorian through the door into the dirty home. He whistles sharply at a man who is sitting at a old radio listening intently, momentarily annoyed, his irritation vanishes as he sees Dorian struggling to stand upright. As he sees blood spreading from Dorian's chest. He clears trash from a home made table and helps the Giant lower Dorian carefully onto the table.

Fuck Leonard, what happened to Dorian? The man from the radio pulls a knife from his pocket and cuts Dorians shirt off. Revealing an impressive array of bruises and cuts. Including the bleeding wound that his broken rib had just made. Leonard the giant shakes in head, just as confused at Dorians injuries as the other man.

Fuckin feds, one of their undercover bastards got me, beat the shit out of me. Dorian winces as the radio man begins probing his bruises. Colin, they hung three more. They got Lily. Dorian says to the radio man. Lily was Colin's ex-wife, who despite their divorce had remained extremely close. Colin's jaw tightens and he nods curtly. He begins sewing up the nasty cut on Dorians forehead and gives him some plants that help dull the pain.

I can't do much for the ribs, just get any painkillers you can and make sure you do over exert yourself. Colin gives Dorians hand a squeeze and returns to his post at the radio, but his expression is now one of fury.

Several large weapons factories have been receiving significant amounts of the limited funding that the Landser government is able to provide. Thanks to the efforts of institutions such as Bohr Weapons Works, Locke-Feldmann Aeronautics, Kronnauer Naval Yard, and Sondheim Munitions there have been many new implementations of military hardware. While the tough economic period currently prohibits large scale production of these items, there are already a few incorporated into active military duty.

There have been a few adjustments to the standard Sturmwehr uniform. The field uniform has been adapted to fit with several tactical garments that have been developed via metal tabs and d-rings, which are in turn attached to small pieces of nylon cord. Snipers now have the ability to attach a close fitting camouflage outer garment, as opposed to the old method of wearing a large bulky poncho. Soldiers also have the ability to attach a rain overcoat made of vinyl. The d-rings can also be used to hold additional field equipment if needed. (i.e. grenades, canteens, or entrenching tools.) They are not made for heavy load bearing however and are prone to ripping off of the uniform if too much force is repeatedly applied.

There have also been three new warplanes developed. As noted above, these are still limited in number however they are in active service at this time. There is really no good way to ensure their effectiveness until they see actual combat, and thus there are sure to be corrections that must be made.

Bohr Weapons Works, in collaboration with Sondheim Munitions, have created a new version of the Panzer tank. The Panzer II, shown here in field tests outside Olmsheid.

This new tank features upgrades to virtually all components of its predecessors. After seeing how effective tank assaults could be during the great war, a large amount of interest was put into researching new armored warfare techniques and technology.

The Landser Navy has also just christened its newest capital ship, known as the R.N.S. Kepler.

This vessel is the largest capital ship currently in the Landser navy.

Chancellor Tirpitz gives a rousing oration praising the tenacity and superiority of the Landser Military. It is a fiery speech, filled with the ever present ethnic and racial supremacist rhetoric.

The Landser people love it however, and they revere their beloved leader even more with each passing day. He is depicted as the savior of Reichsland, the white shining knight that will deliver them from all of their worries.

While Avinaa's allies where updating their militaries President Cedric Howe was more focused on the development of welfare, social security, and public works for his citizens, this put him at odds with pro-military elements of his party and that of the military itself. Howe ordered that funds to diverted from military projects to civilian constructions, like the national highway, rail lines, dams, etc. This caused the military leaders to compete for funding. The Navy and Army pushed for the construction of a powerful naval force with troop transports, aircraft carriers, and more updated submarines. The Air Force, State Security, and Fascist Paramilitaries want a larger air force, and more funding the training and developing of ground forces. Wanting to make sure everyone got what they wanted President Howe divided funding to the navy an air force. This proved a terrible idea, neither program was given antiquate funding pushing back the construction of the aircraft carrier to at least 1933. Avinaa's air-force was forced to cut staff and developers of new aircraft delaying the date of test flights by a year, but the single most aggravating effect(or affect) by Howe's new policy was that Avinaa's outdated Submarine Corps won't even start modernizing until 1934. While Avinaa's allies and enemies pushed ahead modernization programs, Avinaa was behind and this could prove to be its unraveling.

King Fabius lounged in his chair at the dinner table, President Howe laughed at a joke as a server spooned soup into his bowl. Despite the difference in political ideologies between the two leaders, they maintained a rather friendly personal relationship. And since their initial meeting at a dinner between national leaders the two often meet for dinner between 1-2 times a month.

I trust that you have seen the fruits of labor produced by my people? Our roads are in amazing condition, our economy is recovering at a steady rate. I have put Acro back on track, and you have done well with Avinaa. Fabius raises his glass in toast to the Avinian president and downs his wine. I also offer my own support to the fact that you aren't bowing to military, and other warhawks in your party. You are doing great things in improving the lives of your people. Fabius nods his head in approval.
