Why modern Western Nations hate Communism?

Why are modern western cultures like the United States or France hateful towards Communism or even Socialism in general? If someone learns that you are a Communist, they are like, "Oh, well I don't think I should get into that." They call you crazy or unpatriotic, but isn't that what America is? Isn't it a place where no matter what you believe in, you have the right to be that way? "Well, this new President is just about as bad as a Communist!" or "Get rid of the God d*** Commies!" are common statements. Although not many are Communist, they are terribly ridiculed and discriminated by the media and just the general public. We don't say, "Oh my God? You are a Republican? They're just a bunch of crackpots!" It is not fair how Communists and Socialist are treated.

1. Because Communism is an ideology inherently against freedom. It doesn't allow the freedom to own a business, and can keep many people poor, and can cause other economic issues as a result, such as inflation. It can also restrict other rights, and its very easy for someone to take over and become a dictator. Like reaganomics, it appears to work on paper, but in real life, when actually implemented, has disastrous results.

2. For the record, most republicans are not that far right. we call tea partiers crackpots, because they are too far right. just like the communists are too far left.

No I studied communism and the USSR for years and a lot of people thought I was a communist in school for the books I choose to read.I know why they wanted what they wanted and I know the methods they went to in the name of Communism.I learned as much as I could about the USSR and found no justification for killing over 20,000,000 people and putting millions in gulags.They only killed people who went against their form of communism and had no problems letting a murderer serve a five year sentence in a gulag,but someone who is anti'-communist got a death sentence for speaking out against their regime...
