August 1, 1914, the largest war in the history of man has just begun. The major powers of Earth engage in an epic conflict that will shape the course of history for ages to come. In this time line, the South won the Civil War with the help of Great Britain and France. This sets up an even bigger world war that introduces an American Front. Rewrite history! The world is within your grasp! Who will survive this bloodbath? Only time will tell. Good luck and Godspeed.

THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA

Image

1 August 1914
Atlanta, Georgia, CSA
1861 Davis/Lee Avenue

President William J. Bryan paced throughout his office in the executive building of the nations capitol. He had a stern yet worried look on his face. He looked through telegrams sent from Commander Pershing. The troops were racing north to take positions along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The plan they had recently discussed worried him. He wondered if founding father Jefferson Davis was ever as anxious as he felt. He lit a cigarette, removed his glasses and sat behind his desk. A young secretary walked in.

"You want to see me Mr. President?" the fresh faced young man asked.
"Yes Mr. Thompson." The President said in a cool but misleading voice. "I need you to write a telegram to the Entente. It's quite important. Fetch the typewriter, if you would."
"Of course" Thompson responded.

OFFICIAL TELEGRAM OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA
Image

To the leaders of the great nations of the Entente,

It is a sad day for humankind. That we take up arms against our brothers with the intent to end his life. But this was not of our doing. We are simply trying to

survive this world. And survive we will. The might of the Confederate Army will do everything in it's power to protect our nation and her allies. You have my full

support gentlemen. Good luck to you all.

Regards,

President William Jennings Bryan

After the telegram had been sent, Bryan asked Secretary Thompson to send for Summerall to meet with him and the rest of the military staff.

Atlanta, Georgia, CSA
War Department Building

"How are we looking Charles?" Bryan asked.
"Following the training of our draftees, we should have 5,000,000 men at our disposal." He said confidently. "We will have plenty of rifles and ammunition as long as you keep those factories up and running."
"What's our plan?" Bryan questioned.
"Well we have 6 Divisions headed to take positions on the border of Virginia. We have 8 more spread out along our side of the Ohio River. Taking positions along the borders of Missouri alone. From Oklahoma to Arizona we have 14 Divisions preparing to launch an assault on orders. On the Californian border we have 3 Divisions." Summerall said reading off a piece of paper.
"What do you think of Mexico?" Bryan asked worriedly.
"It's hard to say at this point. We will have to monitor the situation and prepare for anything."

Beijing Military Academy
Beijing
China

“Shoulder arms!”

The loud voice boomed across the exercise yard of the Academy, ordering the 11th Republican Regiment to put their rifles up from the ground against their shoulders, clasping them with two hands. The order was performed, although not with the precision of a professional regiment. More like peasant rabble, performing the order for the first time. This, of course, was not the case. These soldiers had been training for the past six months, but had seen little progress. Only a handful of loyal officers with experience remained after the Republican takeover, most of whom felt no particular loyalty towards the Republican army or its president, nor to the soldiers they were training. Accordingly, the training lacked particular vigour and soul, and the army now faced the consequences.

“Right face!”

The same voice that had ordered the shouldering of the weapons now ordered the entire regiment to turn towards the right. This order was also performed beneath the requirements. From where he was standing, president Yuan Shikai could swear he had seen soldiers facing left instead of right. The irregularity of the weapons was also a pain for the eyes. French, Belgian, British, North and South American rifles, there was no uniformity in armament. Rabble with pitchforks and scythes looked more orderly than the 11th regiment of Beijing Foot. With mixed feelings, Shikai observed the exercises of the soldiers, while conversing with the nation’s highest military officer, generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek. Shek had been a republican from the first hour, even performing in the revolution that broke the Qing in the first place. For his services, Shek had received the position he was performing right there, standing next to the president: leading the army.

“Generalissimo… I want to know simple things, now. War has the tendency to oversimplify every matter. Are these men ready to fight a war against the warlords?”

Shek was hesitant at first, but then replied with brutal honesty.

“Your excellency, I would not even perform an arrest with these men if my life depended on it. They are underfed, bare, the army lacks weapons and munitions, and there are probably not two men in this regiment who carry the same rifle. We lack artillery, transports, vehicles, railroads, supply lines... If we move against the warlords with regiments like the 11th, we can just as well cut our nation into pieces and flee to Japan immediately.”

Shikai sighed, and sat down. Supporting his head with his arm, he kept staring at the wannabe soldiers, his eyes partially closed and somewhat open.

“I appreciate your honesty in the matter, generalissimo. I agree. We are with too few, with too little. I wanted to know your opinion before I did the unthinkable.”

“Your excellency?”

Shek was confused. Yuan Shikai had always been somewhat odd, distanced, but now, he was even vaguer than normal. The unthinkable? What was he planning?

“Yes, Chiang. I am going to accept Sun Yat-Sen as my prime minister. He is the only one China can rally behind. Also, I’m going to give in to your demands. The army requires modern arms and weapons, I see that now more than ever. With Yat-Sen at my side, I hope China will rally behind the modernisation…”

“Your excellency, I…”

“It has been arranged, generalissimo. I hope you are happy to see your old friend back. The telegram has just been sent to Japan, requesting his immediate return to his homeland. I need you to write some letters for me, generalissimo, addressing the foreign powers…”

Shek sighed, but bowed.

“As you wish, excellency”

Dear leaders of the Entente Powers,

President of the Confederate States of America,
Czar of all the Russians,
King of Great Britain and her Dominions,
President of the French Republic,
King of Romania,
King of Serbia

For a long time, the Western World has acted hostile towards China. China was seen as weak, blind, backwards. No longer. China is not blind for what happens to the world, and especially not blind for what is currently on the move in Europe. Future conflicts cannot be avoided. In time, whether it is soon or far away, a large war will come to the continent. In the modern era, even more so than before, wars will be won by the nation that can push the highest amount of equipment on the field. The nation that can fire the most shells and bullets will win the day. A nation with one rifle for every two soldiers is doomed in these dangerous times. With the imminent dangers, all nations of the world should seek arms and munitions for their armies, to secure their futures. It is a logical step.

The Republic of China is willing to help you all, without the knowledge of any other nation. Britain and China have seen their rivalries, of course, but those Qing despots and warlords have been eradicated. The people of China now welcome those who brought the technology of the west to our doorstep, and we welcome you once again. The Republic offers cheap labour, vast natural resources and enormous capacity to the Entente, for weapons productions. Provided with the necessary machines and blueprints, combined with infrastructure like railroads, harbours and naval vessels, the now rising Chine industry will be a valuable ally to the soldiers in the field, as well as the politicians in the capital. Should your factories burn by the black hand of your adversaries, the fight can go on. China will remain officially neutral for the time to come. This deal strengthens all of our nations. All China needs is the jumpstart.

This deal is most generous and it will be the standing offer. But, as you all know, the Chinese people are divided under warlords and feudal nations. This conflict in our nation can hamper your attainment of our weapons and supplies, as well as reduce our productivity. Your military veterans and tacticians would be welcome to teach at the Bejing Military Academy, where a new breed of officers and soldiers will be trained to combat these threats. Should you wish to accept this last offer, nothing stands between you and near unlimited firepower for your nation. Your replies would be most welcome.

Yours Truly, and with the highest regards,
Y. Shikai,
President of the Republic of China

Dear leaders of the Central Powers,

President of the United States of America,
Emperor of Germany,
Emperor of Austria and Hungary,
Sultan of the Ottoman Empire,
King of Bulgaria,

For a long time, the Western World has acted hostile towards China. China was seen as weak, blind, backwards. No longer. With the imminent dangers, all nations of the world should seek arms and munitions for their armies, to secure their futures. It is a logical step.

The Republic of China is willing to help you all, without the knowledge of any other nation. Germany and China have always been good friends, and the same goes for the traders of the United States, who have taken good care for our people in their own homeland. As great thanks, the Republic offers cheap labour, vast natural resources and enormous capacity to the Entente, for weapons productions. This conflict in our nation can hamper your attainment of our weapons and supplies, as well as reduce our productivity. Your military veterans and tacticians would be welcome to teach at the Nankin Military Academy, where a new breed of officers and soldiers will be trained to combat these threats. Should you wish to accept this last offer, nothing stands between you and near unlimited firepower for your nation. Your replies would be most welcome.

Yours Truly, and with the highest regards,
Y. Shikai,
President of the Republic of China

Vienna, 1st of August 1914

Franz Joseph I is on his office in his palace. As he worries about a war that is going to start. He starts and writes

To the central powers,
me, mighty Franz Joseph I of the Austro-Hungarians writes to tell you
that we have to be prepared and ready to fight and expand. I want a
meeting for the central powers in the city of Budapest, where we will
talk about the war that is going to start and how we are going to split.
I hope I didn't worry you leaders of the central powers.
Franz Joseph I the Austro-Hungarian King-Emperor.

After he writes the letter he goes outside to tell his soldiers to be prepared for war and send a message to all the Dukes of the Empire. Franz Joseph I says "Hey my glorious people and soldiers, we must send a message to all the people of the Empire and communicate with them in every way possible, all the people should now for something I call World War. Now go and tell it to everyone." They all ran to tell it to their families and Franz Joseph I gets inside his palace to sleep for the noon.

Republic of Mexico,
August 1st,
President Venustiano Carranza,

President Venustiano Carranza looked at a world map, noticing the "allied" or entete powers of the war own a large chunk of the world, while the Central are in specific areas. President Venustiano Carranza told the general to get a submarine ready, knowing if the Confederacy got a hold of this letter all hell would be loose. The letter reads,

Dear President of the United states of America,

I, President Venustiano Carranza hereby ask you a great ally of the German's to allow me to fight with you against the Confederacy. We wish to regain the provinces we lost due to their purchase. We also wish to liberate your lands, and liberate Cuba. We have a military big enough to take the southern front, while you take the northern. If you accept the military shall be armed, and be readied. If not than we will watch the destruction seeing as you have Britian in Canada, and the Confederacy states. I thank you for your time.

Sincerely, President Venustiano Carranza.

President Venustiano Carranza smiled sending this off in the submarine, it seeming like a threat, but also a alliance proposal...

The United Kingdom and Colonial Territorys Of Great Britain and Ireland

Image

British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith had called an emergency meeting. He'd just got off the phone with his colonial counterparts. Asquith rubbed his eyes. The entente and the empire were on the brink of war, the jumped up bastards in Germany and the US were itching for a war, it was Asquith's job to make sure that didn't happen. But if it did the Commonwealth had better be bloody prepared.

The Minister Of Defense stands "How likely is this all to kick off?"

The Cabinet look at the Minister for Foreign Affairs "Germany isn't likely to stand down. The war with Serbia's already begun, I'm not sure if we can contain this.. "

The PM speaks up "We can try. What are the commonwealth Contingency plans?

The Minister Of Defense stands again The Canadians, over 35,000 are moving to the Boarder and taking up defensive positions, trenches are being dug as we speak. They are ready to order a order of general conscription of all 18-45 year old males in Canada. This will gives us which will get some where in the region of 800,000 troops but they'll take months to train.

In Africa troops are moving into position to take German colonial possessions. We are readying to raise regiments from the tribal populations. In the north we're setting up a defensive positions on both sides of the Suez. The men have been ordered to fight a 'fighting retreat' intill they get to these positions. Once their there it should hold.

Indian regiments and the Gurkha's are being redeployed to Pakistan. The Persians should let us through and then Ottomans will have hell to pay. We are sending T. E. Lawrence and other spy's into Ottoman territory. The Arabs are ready to rebel they just need a helping hand.

Image

On the home front we have mobilized the BEF force to be sent to France. This contains six infantry divisions and five cavalry brigades joined into I Corps and the II Corps. Kitchener is planing a propaganda campaign to get men to join the army. Oceania will provide troops to where ever they are needed. In fact there will be a Empire wide recruitment drive using propaganda and incentives

Finally the Pacific navy will be ordered to split. 2/3 is to prepare for a blockade against the US and Mexico while the others escort troops and supply's. The Atlantic and Home fleets will join and Smash the German navy with hopeful help from the french and Russians then we'll establish a German Blockade. Finally moving to Blockade the US and Mexico from the other side. The CSA will be getting supply's while the US and Mexico (If they get involved) won't lets see how well they can fight like that."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To: The Republic Of France
From: The United Kingdom

If Germany invades we assure you we will honor the alliance. We would ask that you use your colonial troops against the Ottomans and German overseas possessions. We also ask that you send as many men as you can spare form these to help with the defense of Suez. If we lose that...

I also ask that you deploy your navy with the UK's so that we may crush the Germans with limited casualties, we also ask that once this has been done you take primary control of the German blockade. The British fleets will be needed to support the CSA and British Canada against the attacking US. We also ask that you urge French Canadians to defend their homeland and take up arms against the Invaders.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: The Confederate States Of America
From: The United Kingdom

We will back the Alliance if war is what must come but we ask that you do not provoke mexico. We also ask that you put as much pressure on the US south as possible. Canada will open a second front with the US however we won't be able to eliminate the US navy till after destroying the German one but we ask that you join us when we do. We will send you military supply's but you must secure the trade routes for our ships while we deal with the Germans. The RN is preparing to blockade the western US and so any support in that respect would be welcome.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: The Republic Of China
From: The United Kingdom

We are willing to send Ammunition, light weaponry and Military advisers from the British Raj and from Oceania in return for the Chinese Signing of a non-aggression pack for 15 years with the UK and all members of the Entrant. We would also send vast numbers of civil engineers, Military equipment, blueprints etc if China would pledge its support to the Entrant more still if they provide direct military support. We in the UK imagine a Strong, Modern, Industrialized China which fights for freedom with the other Great Powers by herside.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: United States Of America
From: The United Kingdom

We ask that you rethink what you are about to do. The consequences of losing this war may be far greater than those of losing the Civil one. Your nation is Isolated, surrounded on all sides. You cannot hope to win this war. Yet you are gearing up to be the aggressor here. If you prove to us in the Entant that you are ready to make serious decisions such as NOT entering an unwinable war we can mend our relationships and will help the US grow into the nation it so dearly deserves to be.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: Italy
From: The United Kingdom

Italy is a great land full of wondrous people. We ask that you support you friend the UK against the Axis forces. Italy can gain much by joining the winning side so early. Italy would be given a place at the peace table demands along side France and Russia. Attacking France will give you little. But Austro-hungry? They are weak, they are the aggressors and the might of Italy would brush them aside like they were nothing. You would open up a third front. Austro-hungry will fall at your feet and you will have many rich pickings.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: Greece
From: The United Kingdom

Greece has long been a friend of the UK. The Axis war of aggression can be stopped by you. you think Austro-Hunggry will stop with Serbia and those bastard Ottomans still want to rule the Greek people. You threw them out in ancient times and In our war of independence. Now with Entrant support you can relive Alexander the great. You can make Greek glorious again and show the Ottomans what happens when you invade the Greeks! You can take your revenge, splitting the ottomans onto four fronts. They will crumble and Greece will be victorious and reap the rewards.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

Washington D.C., United States of America

A trail of people streamed from the city like water from a broken kennel. Men towed what they can carry while mothers towed screaming toddlers. In their wake, a second column of men marched into the evacuating city. They wore the olive green of the US army core and carried with them machines of war. Trucks filled with munitions towed heavy artillery and machine guns to the city, which was in the processes of being fortified against the inevitable Confederate assault.

Far from worried, most of the soldiers were excited about the upcoming war. They dreamed of the much desired victory against the Confederates, which some stilled called “rebels”. A deep grudge resides between the two Americas, a grudge that can only be sated with blood. The recruitment offices promised a swift victory; an effortless steamroller offensive against the less populous and less industrialized Confederacy. The soldiers were promised much honor and glory and little blood. The poor fools.

Philadelphia F.D., United States of America

President Theodore Roosevelt paced around the oval office. It was a replica of that in Washington D.C. before it was burnt down in the War of Secession. He was adamant that history does not repeat in this conflict.

He turned to the other men in the office. They were the Union’s top General, cream of the crop from West Point and beyond. These men held the key to the future of America.

John J. Pershing (Marshal, Age 54) – Supreme commander of the American Eastern Front. He was to command the US 1st Army (120,000 men) against the Confederates along the Kentucky-Tennessee line. He was order to protect the US industrial heartland at all cost. He was also the highest ranking general in the American front, answerable only to the President.

George A. Custer (General, Age 74) – Supreme commander of the American Western Front. He was a veteran of the Civil War and had the most experience among all the US generals. He commanded the US 4th Army (85,000 men) and was tasked to break the Texan defense line and push into the Confederate industrial power base. If successful, it could be a fatal blow to the Confederate war effort.

Hunter Liggett (Lt. General, Age 57) – Top commander on the Maryland-Virginia Front. He was tasked to protect Pennsylvania and commanded the US 2nd Army (52,000 men). He was also tasked to take Virginia if possible.

Tasker H. Bliss (Lt. General, Age 61) – Commander of the US 6th army (44,000 men), he was assigned the task of taking Ottawa in case of British involvement in the war. Canada is a secondary theater to the US, but it does not wish to fight a two front war for a protracted period. That is why it is imperative that Canada falls in the first few months of war.

Peyton C. March (Lt. General, Age 50) – Commander of the US 8th army (21,000 men), he was tasked to protect the US Western Seaboard against any possible Entente invasion. Due to the unlikelihood of such an even, he has most of his troops stationed in Southern California.

In total, the US is fielding 460,000 men split among 12 field armies. It is also mobilizing an additional 2.1 million men from its reserves. This would be the largest military conflict in North America ever. President Roosevelt held no delusions on the nature of such a war and knew that victory much be purchased with blood and iron.

To: President Y. Shikai of China
On behalf of the Central Powers, the United States would welcome any Chinese support in the upcoming conflict. We regret the suffering China had to go through at the hands of the British and French imperialists and would do all we can to right past wrongs. In a show of solidarity, the United States forsakes any special trade privileges it previously held in China and cedes those special trade zones to the Chinese government. We will be also willing to provide the credit necessary for China to industrialize once conflict has died down.

If your government seeks to take up arms and recapture the British, Russian and French colonial territories they wrongly took from China, then the Central Powers would be more than willing to provide arms and war material to aid your effort.
Best wishes
- President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States of America

To: President Venustiano Carranza of Mexico
The United States welcome your government’s decision to take up against the Confederacy. We would like to invite your government into the Central Powers coalition and offer you all our support in the upcoming war. Once war has been declared, we will loan you mass amount of firearms and artillery pieces. We would be also willing to lend you large amount of money once the war is over to help your government industrialize into a modern powerhouse.

When the peace treaty is signed, we guarantee that your government will regain the land stolen from you by the Confederacy. Depending on the circumstances, we can also offer you land in CSA proper such as Southern Texas or the New Mexican territories.
Your friend and ally
- President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States of America

Saint Petersburg, Russia
08/01/14- August 1st, 1914

Nicolas II stood in his excellency's room of action, an unofficial term of course, but that's what it was referred to by his advisers. He and several other figures of the Russian government had just begun discussing the recent course of action West of Russia, with Austria and Serbia becoming engulfed in war with Germany backing up the Austrians. Russia's alignment with Serbia has caused quite a conundrum among his government. He was dedicated to protecting the Serb's integrity as a sovereign state, but alas, he was unsure of his military's preparedness of war.

The talks among his government advisers continued on and on, only reaffirming what had already been stated previously. The ill-conceived notion to abstain from any action and ignore what is happening to Russia's Serbian allies was put on the waiver list. Nicolas completely shoved away every single offer until it was apparent that he wanted to intervene militarily. The appearance of his wishes granted the advisers the knowledge to not vie for anything less than a borderline military assault on Germany or Austria, but nonetheless, the sheer idiocy of jumping into war was acknowledged by the advisers. The advisers to Nicolas II suggested a ultimatum to Germany, forcing them to step down from their aggression towards Serbia and forcing them to abstain from the Serbian-Austria conflict. A more-than-likely unacceptable term for Germany, but a resolution to keep them from sustaining an armed presence in Serbia.

Nicolas realized the sternness in the adviser's unified preposition and assumed that denial of the offer would result in a gridlock among the top government figures. Rapidly rethinking the terms of the offer, he finally confirmed his agreement to the offer and ordered the mobilization of Russian troops to the border of Russian, preparing for crossing into Germany.

The Russian leader, Nicolas II, began his exit out of the room when he stopped in the doorway and looked back towards his concomitant allies whom he was parting ways with for the day. He simply uttered one phrase to his colleagues before putting up a smirk and exiting for good.

"By the grace of God, I shall see to it that we will prevail as the victorious party Gentlemen."

To: President Shikai, Republic of China
From: Nicolas II, The Russian Empire
Encryption: High

Though I recognize the need for your supply and train your military operatives and see the need for a central government over China, I must respectively decline your offer to provide armaments and training to the Chinese military as we ourselves aren't in such a position to do so even with logistical apparatus.

Signed,
Nicolas II

To: Wilhelm II, The German Empire
From: Nicolas II, The Russian Empire
Encryption: High

Due to your nation's recent support in the Austrian and Serbian conflict on the side of Austria as well as the aggression towards sworn Russian ally
of Serbia, we formally require the German Empire to step down from further involvement, discontinue aggression, and refrain from further aggravation and involvement in the conflict. If these demands are not met, the German Empire will be met with the harshest of consequences.

Signed,
Nicolas II

Tokyo,
Japan

The run rose upon the Empire of the Rising Sun, first in the Philippines where indigenous peoples labored away in the fields, sweating under the red fingers of the morning sun under the watchful eyes of Imperial Japanese soldiers. Then, the sun set her eyes upon the Korean peninsula were dozens of subject Koreans stoutly refused Japanese advances at imposing Japanese culture upon the proud hearted and tenacious Korean people. Soon, the Sun shone her face upon the Island of Japan, a nation of great economic growth and prosperity where she smiled upon her son, the Sun Emperor Taisho, young Emperor of Japan.

Taishō inhaled deeply, taking in the recent international events with great anxiety as he gently set aside his newspaper. The young Japanese Emperor, the 123rd in a long line of Japanese Monarchs, was no politician. He was no soldier and no planner. He was nothing but a God, a person of divinity to the Japanese people, who worshiped him like a God. Taishō was their God, and he was a pretty bad God at that. Pacing through his Palace gardens, the young prince wore an elegant Japanese military uniform adorned with military medals he had done little to earn, and his ceremonial sword swung lazily to his right. As the Emperor of Japan, he was the Defender of Asians and the enemy of Western Imperialists. This was Taishō. He was merely a boy, not yet a man, tasked with the fate of millions.

Luckily, Taishō didn’t have to make the heavy decisions. Rather, that was the job of Prime Minister Hara Takashi, otherwise known as the “Commoner Minister.” The first of Japan’s Prime Ministers to have risen from the lowly peasant class, Mr. Takashi was fundamental to much of Japan’s recent economic and social development, extending voting and civil rights to a greater number of citizens within the Empire of the Rising Sun. Without Mr. Takashi, Taishō nodded, Japan might not be as modern and civilized as it was today. Barbarianism was better left to the Chinese and Koreans with their strange customs. Of course, Taishō stipulated, Japan and Korea were not so different after all. And Mr. Takashi’s democratization reforms were fascinating; why could this same democratization extend to subject peoples of the Empire of Japan?

Taisho, as young people are wont to be, wanted to change the world. Upon his last visit to the Korean peninsula, he had witnessed much good there. General Kazushige Ugaki, General of the Korean province, was doing a splendid job in building up Korean heavy industry, but that simply wasn’t enough. Recently, Taisho’s readings had included some of the writings of that American author, Mark Twain. A brilliant man, Taisho thought, a truly splendid author. Those Tom Sawyer books were interesting enough, but Twain’s deeper works truly made an impact on the young Emperor who translated the writings of the American author into political reality. As Mr. Twain detested the forcible imposition of national ideals upon colonial peoples, Taisho had nudged Takashi into reforming Korean policy.

Taking a seat on a fine, imported British chair, sipping traditional green tea from a British tea cup, Taisho shrugged away his worries and believed that it would all fall into place. Freedom would prevail in the world and Japan would be at the fore front of a grand new era of peace, freedom and democratization. Already, Taisho was learning to use his influence as Emperor to discredit Right Wing nationalists such as Sadao Aarki, who were spouting hateful nonsense about Japanese supremacy and Military rule. As if the military wasn’t already too powerful with their nonsense about Bushido and military might.

Taisho had gone to college in the United States, attending Harvard College where he was exposed to a plethora of liberal ideals that changed the way he saw the world. His American acquaintances showed him the fallacy of the ways of the Japanese militants and encouraged him to make Japan a leading nation in the efforts of protecting human rights. The foolish, young Emperor wanted to be gentler to Imperial citizens abroad, use Japan’s army to create stability in China and defeat the forces of authoritarianism and despotism. The more right wing Japanese militants accused him of being a Communist, whereupon he had responded that it wasn’t communism to believe that citizens were human beings. That had shut them up, and made him the “Peasant’s Emperor,” winning over the lower classes of Japan’s social hierarchy.

Takshi had advised Taisho to strengthen ties with the British Empire and the Confederate States of America, wisely noting that the wisest course was that of the great powers. But Taisho had different ideas. He saw no need to get involved in a European war and tried to stall his Minister’s advances towards war against Germany and the United States. After all, war was amongst the worst of evils in Twain’s opinion.

To the United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland, and the Commonwealth of the British Monarchy, and forwarded to the Confederate States of America

From the Empire of the Rising Sun, from the desk of Emperor Taisho, Emperor of Japan and Lord of Korea and the Philippines
Dear British Comrades,

In accordance with the Nippon-Anglo alliance treaty of 1895, we will come to the aid of both yourself and your allies in times of war. While we regret that our young men will be forced to endure times of great hardship on the fields of battle, we hope that the Warrior spirit and honor of our troops will carry the day against the forces of the German Autocrats.

As planned, our troops intend to engage on a series of Island assaults, making temporary occupations of the Dutch East Indies to stage a series of assaults upon German Colonial territories to build a series of bases of supply and rest whereupon our forces will then be able to make their way onto the battlefields of North America where our valiant Confederate allies will die to defend their freedom and their democratic system of life.

We then ask that our forces have permission to dock in Hawaii to perform troop movements into the American continent to open a front against the Confederacy’s foes.

May the Ancestors bless our paths on the field of battle

-Emperor Taisho

To the Tsars of Russia

From the Empire of the Rising Sun, from the desk of Emperor Taisho, Emperor of Japan and Lord of Korea and the Philippines

Dear Great Tsar Nicholas,

We realize that political relations have been strained between our two nations, but on the outset of war, I ask that we set ancient feuds aside for the greater picture.
Japan is willing to deploy troops into Russia to assist Imperial Russia in her noble struggle against the German Imperialists and militants. Please consider our offer

-Emperor Taisho

Ottoman Empire

Sultan's Palace, Kostantiniyye
Sultan Mehmed V rubbed his temples as he sat on the balcony, staring over the ancient city before him. Of course it had only been a matter of time before something like this happened. The Balkan peoples, as the Ottomans knew only too well, would fight furiously if their homes were threatened. But this was to be more than just a drawn out brawl between the Austrians and the Serbian underdogs. Of course, Russia happened to be allied with the Serbs. And of course, the Germans happened to be allied with the Austrians, and of course, the French and British were allied with the Russians. And even more typically, the Americas and Asia looked to be involved too. This was gearing up to be a War of the World. And Mehmed's Empire was in quite a tight spot, all things considered.

The Ottoman Empire had received German aid in the past in industrialization and modernization, of course not enough, but more than what the Entente had thrown in combined. But, Mehmed doubted his Empire's ability to fight a war against the Entente powers. He knew that whatever side the Ottomans threw themselves behind would shape the future of all peoples of the Middle East and beyond. Of course, even if he knew who he wanted to back, he had little control over his army anyway. The Three Pashas, the triumvirate of bastards who had usurped the power of his throne, had control over the military and the Parliament. He frowned when his thoughts turned to Parliament. It was not the Ottoman way, elections, parties, political tiffs. All it served for was a hold-up to any significant progress.

Mehmed longed for the days where the Throne in Kostantiniyye was unquestionable, when the Sultan's word was law. Of course, those where the days when the Empire stretched from Somalia to Vienna. Oh, how Mehmed dreamed of looking at a map and seeing an empire as great as the days of old. But time passes, and empires decay. The march of progress in the west had left the Ottomans behind. It was now their turn to catch up. Mehmed sighed. The Ottoman Empire was not secure, nor was his reign. These days, being Sultan was about global politics and economics, rather than Harem girls and indulgences. Mehmed sat back, closed his eyes and dreamed of the Empire of old.

Three Pashas meeting, Kostantiniyye
Three men sat down around a table. They were arguably the most powerful men in the Islamic World. It was their task to oversee the ruling of the historic and glorious empire of the Ottomans, or so they said. In reality, their job was to pull the train-wreck that was the Ottoman Empire out of the dirt. The rule of Sultans was no longer what the Empire needed. Ismail Enver, Minister of War, was first to speak. "Selamlar, Pashas. I think we all understand the severity of this conflict." The other two, Interior Minister Mehmed Talaat and Naval Minister Ahmed Djemal, nodded silently and profusely. Ismail continued. "The very continuation of our Empire could soon be under threat."

"The Sultan sits in his palace contemplating which side has the least chance of destroying us. I say, we do not throw our men into the fire for promises of our continued existence! I say we sit, wait and plan, and we let the British and the Germans come to us. Let them send their envoys, let them deliver their offers or their threats, and only then will we go to war." The other two nodded once more. Mehmed Talaat then said, "So, official neutrality for the time being then. I shall see to it the Sultan is informed." Ahmed, the last Pasha, then spoke up. "While it is a good decision, we should not be doing nothing. At the very least, let us act to ensure that in the coming days we are ready for the war."

Mehmed Talaat said "Very true. Let us send envoys to the Persians. We will sign a non-aggression pact, and make them promise not to let through British troops." Ismail replied, "See to it that it is done. I will see what can be done about the military. In the state it's in, we couldn't even hold off the Russians, let alone the British." Ahmed looked around at the other two and asked, "Dismissed?" The three men stood and left the room quietly, much work to be done.

"My Liege we have received a telegram from the British Foreign Secretary asking us if we want to aid them in the growing prospect of war." reported Eleftherios Venizelos.

"Ottoman aggression has always been a growing concern, however do we want to be dragged into a war with Germany and Austria." said King Constantine. " I don't believe that we do want to be dragged into this."

Dear Edward Grey
Greece thanks you for the offer of support against the Ottomans, but we will only accept this offer of yours if and only if we are invaded by Germany, Austria or the Ottoman Empire, other than if these conditions are met, we ask that you and your allies respect our neutrality.
Sincerely King Constantine

Dear Kaiser Wilhelm II
Greece respectfully asks that you and you allies respect our neutrality in the Balkans, this includes the Ottoman Empire, we wish that they do not enter our sovereign territory as if this happens we will have to side with Britain and her allies, however if Britain and her allies do not respect our neutrality we have no problems with aiding you in your efforts
Sincerely King Constantine

Novaci, Kraljevina Srbija (Modern Macedonia)
Image

In Novaci, as in every village, town and city in Serbia, armed men were going to and fro without any real understanding of why, there were rumors of war with Austria-Hungary, though nobody had actually confirmed anything, a messenger had come from Bitola at dawn, telling the reserves to mobilize, the police to hurry up and arm themselves and for everyone with a gun to gather in the center of town, which was why half an hour later the men of Novaci and the surrounding area were huddled together and showing off their rifles.

"Serbia is at war!" the messenger, a short, scruffy looking man from the city shouted, getting the attention of the crowd, "The Austrian kopile of an Emperor and his ljigav, unakažen cousin in Germany have decided that we must pay for Sarajevo" at this there was mumbling in the crowd, some self proclaimed Yugoslav had shot some Duke that they'd barely even heard of in another country, yet the Serbs must pay, it seemed ludicrous, "We defeated the Turčin, and his Empire was much grander than these upstart Nemački states"

"We aren't too far from the border to help, where are they sending us?" Radovan Vujošević from down the road asked cautiously, they wanted to help, but most of the villagers had never been more than two hundred kilometers from their homes, and to go as far as say Beograd would be some experience.

"To Niš, for your training and equipment, probably to wherever the fighting is happening once you are done, are there any more questions? I have eight more villages to get to today"

"What of our cousins, the Russians, will they defend the South Slavs?" the school's teacher, Ljubomir Đurđević asked, Serbia was a brave little kingdom, but they could not defeat two Empires on their own, even with the presumed aid of their allies in Crna Gora and Grčka, "And the French, they are allied to Russia, will they help us?"

"Russia definitely, I don't know about the French just yet, and the British could be taking our side, though don't hold me to it, if that's all, you should get started, you have a long walk if you want to get to Prilep before the train leaves" after waiting a few seconds and receiving no more questions, the messenger got back on his horse and rode in the direction of Staravina, leaving the men to say goodbye to their families and pack what gear they could before setting off.

Cetinje, Kraljevina Crna Gora

Kralj Nikola I was an old man, but not so old and senile that he would not keep his word, Srbija was at war, and as it's brother-country, Crna Gora would follow, there were some who did not agree with his decision, a few who would remain neutral and just protest to the war diplomatically, but, Kralj Nikola was an old man, and as far back in human history as you can look, there is war, war is an old game, one in which he was now a champion, he had defeated two Sultans in his time, so two Kaisers should be no trouble.

On the ride from his residence to the new headquarters, he had seen young men with rifles everywhere, they had saluted and cheered their king, and he had waved and smiled at what would soon be his army, already at the headquarters when he arrived were Generals Božidar Janković and Radomir Vešović, Count Janko Vukotić and several officers who had come from Srbija earlier today, to prepare joint defenses and show the ever present and still growing unity of the brother-countries.

"Ah, gospodar Nikola, hvala for coming" General Vešović said, turning away from the plans and maps that lay on the large desk, "If you would just look over our plans, and suggestions or comments you could make would be most welcomed" Kralj Nikola came over to the desk and saw the large map of the Balkans, there were flags pinned into the different nations and figures on the board to show known troop positions, although for any but Crna Gora or Srbija they were a bit vague.

"We are mobilizing as many men as we can arm, our police force and the militias are currently patrolling the borders, and the reserves should be ready within the week, the only problem is getting the regulars to the border, our rail networks are good, but not that good, they should also be in their assigned positions within a week" Vojvoda Radomir Putnik, the Serbian field marshal offered his seat to the king and continued, "What men we already had on the borders, as well as as many locals as we can convince to work have started building a defensive line, mostly just trenches but with a few block houses in old forts or churches"

"Alright, we should be ready for whatever they throw at us, at least at first, they will not expect our forces to be very competent, to those Germans we are just Slavic barbarians, what of the South? The Albanians have grown restless and several villages have been attacked recently, here and in Srbija" Kralj Nikola asked, "And the Greeks, can we count on them?"

"Well, we have been mobilizing forces in the South of Srbija, after their training I don't see why we couldn't put a detachment in the South to maintain order and protect our civilians, it could also give us a reserve force we could bring to the front if things are going badly" Putnik answered, "The Greeks should be mobilizing, unless they have forgotten our alliance, their king, Konstantin is a known German lover, whether or not he would allow a war is doubtful at this point, but the Prime Minister is a good man, I met with him last year after we signed the treaties over Macedonia"

"And the Ottomans and Bulgarians? If either of them decide to retake their lost lands, we could be fighting on several fronts, something which I doubt we are fully capable of"

"The Turks are neutral thus far, I don't know anything about the Bulgarians, though with only a little nudging from the Austrians they would probably swarm our East, the war was only a year ago and I doubt any of them have forgotten, perhaps I should send a message to my command telling them to send some units to Negotin and that area, just in case they decide to attack"

"That is probably wise, thank you gentlemen for allowing this old man to intrude on your planning" Kralj Nikola thanked the officers, "I am supposed to be at the parade grounds soon, reviewing what troops we have found in this area before they are sent to the border" after shaking hands with the men he went back outside, got back on the cart and was off again.

Madrid, Spain

The Court of Alfonso XIII had been in steady decline for years. Colonies that did not turn a profit for Spain were becoming matchboxes of economic activity for other nations, like the Confederate States of America with Cuba and Japan with the Philippines. However, the nation was spared her pride by selling off these possessions instead of losing them in a war. This expansion of wealth was poured into infrastructure, education, and public works, as the Cortes General was forbidden to spend the additional income on military measures. Alfonso XIII was disliked because he was a realist about Spain, her prime was long gone and she needed to be rebuilt not to relive her glory days but to advance faster into the modern era. Rather than support an Imperialist agenda, he was restructuring Spanish society with the aid of professionals he would hire personally, receiving the advice of many minds on subjects before reporting them to the Cortes General. A strong ruler who enforced his direction, the results he gained in the nation were overlooked simply because Nationalism dictated that the nation re-build her lost empire.

A larger movement, however, was the Iberian Federalists. These men, like Alfonso XIII, saw that Spain would not be able to relive a faded memory, but saw the need to include Portugal in their dream of an advanced Iberia. They made up a commanding section of the Spanish Military, and were overlooked time and time again. As protests swept Madrid, for the third time in two months, the Army was to put it down after the Police had exhausted their resources - or joined the protesters. Alfonso XIII did not pay attention to the chants and marches of the populace, nor did he really pay attention to the situation in Europe. The Great War, as it was called, held no interest of his Spain. Most Spaniards felt the same - they would tread lightly. A sudden and urgent knock at his door brought his attention from paper work to the entryway. It was not formal, it was gruff and firm. He opened his central drawer, drawing a German Luger from it's compartment.

"Come in." He sounded, as normal as he could. The door opened, a group of men entering the office and forming a tight half-circle before the King's desk. They were military officers, headed by Captain-General Miguel Primo de Rivera. He was an astute thinker, and in many ways the King and Miguel were similar. His presence caused the grip on the King's pistol to loosen a bit, but he cast his vision to and fro, sizing up the officers.

"My Lord, I believe you understand what this is." Miguel said, stepping forward after a brief and awkward silence.

"I understand more than you realize." Alfonso XIII said in response, causing the Captain-General, highest position within the Army, to swallow hard.

"Very well. Alfonso León Fernando María Jaime Isidro Pascual Antonio de Borbón y Habsburgo-Lorena," The Captain-General pronounced slowly and deliberately, "I place you under arrest by authority of the Military Directory. Please, come with us and there will be no problems." The King tightened his grip on the pistol. Nine men, eight bullets his magazine. He couldn't do it. He closed his eyes and began shaking, but finally rose up from his desk, pistol still in hand. The officers took immediate notice, and placed their hands on their firearms. Miguel held his hand up, firm and steady, delaying his men from acting. The King loosened his grip once more, letting the pistol drop to the ground. Defeated, he spread his arms like an eagle, and declared,

"The throne is lost. The monarchy is dead. Find peace for España, for you will not find peace in the afterlife."

With that, two men grabbed the ex-King by both arms, escorting him out of his office amongst tears. Another went to make the announcement to the people of Madrid, while Captain-General Miguel remained in the office of the King, observing some knick-knacks and royal items on his desk. It would become Miguel's today, but he held a look of sadness in his eyes. "Ensure the King is treated well, and his personal items returned to him." He said to anyone remaining in the room. A bloodless coup, and in only minutes, Miguel would be named Supreme Military Director of España by the Cortes General, in addition to his Captain-General position. The most powerful man in Spain. As soon as that thought crossed his mind, a slight smile emerged, and a roar erupted from the crowds outside of the Royal Estate. Now that the people know, he will be able to coordinate his next series of moves.

Knowing the Mexican civil war was brewing, The president Immediately called for the public speakers of the parties to a meeting, addressing them he said they can join the parliament to allow them to have a say in what goes on in the country. "We all know the common foes of our country, but we must also Protect Mexico, and Central America." The leader immediately joined into the Parliament, the first thing that they were going to do was ask the Central American governments for alliances (Excluding Belize "UK".)

Dear Central America Leaders,

I, President Venustiano Carranza hereby ask you all to a alliance of all of our people. I know a war of the world is brewing, but it you assist me in the war, we will come out with wealth. I thank you all for your time.

Sincerely, President Venustiano Carranza

(OOC: This is all I can do. It'd be more in deph and less vague if I didn't have this Fucking Writer's Block

Deutsches Reich
"Gott mit uns"

Beginnings (der Anfänge)

"In the midst of darkness, only light will persevere until the end, whatever it may be..." -Unknown

One month. That's all it took for the world to go on the brink of a full-scale war. Just about one month. This could be a conflict decades, centuries even, in the making. The ultimate battle to determine who is the victor and who is the loser in this new, modern, industrialized world. This could be the one and only War to End All Wars, but it will be far from the first if things continue to be the way they are long after the dust has settled and the conflict subsided. For many, this may be a war for redemption, for others, a war for their chance of dominating this new era. For Germany, however, this is a war of frienship, in helping an ally that is facing agression of a much larger force, and also, to bring the world, or at least Europe as a whole, closer towards a more German influence, and let it be known of the culture and the arts that are so rejected by Germany's neighbors. This new movement will be forever known as the Kaiser's war, but it will live forever in history as the time Germany showed its might to the rest of the world.

It wasn't a very difficult thing to do. All Germany had asked for was for Russia to calm itself and leave things be in the wake of the ongoing feud between Serbia and Austria-Hungary. Three days later, and not a single word, in fact, that request may very well have been spat upon with Russia's demand for Germany to settle down as well. They literally can't, seeing as apparently every nation in Europe is out to get Germany, the military must be ready at all times to begin battle. And it should be well known that a spit on the Kaiser's orders are almost always a spit to his face, no matter who he is as a person. It cannot possibly be allowed for Russia to simply step upon a good ally of Germany and expect Germany to be okay with it. So without an exception as to whatever their reason may be, the Russian Empire will not be allowed to take any action whatsoever, unless it is over the Kaiser's cold, dead body, and even then, it still wouldn't happen.

It's been about 43 years since the German states have unified, and now, their bonds will face the ultimate test that humankind has to offer. A test so vicious yet well-practiced that it's been an art form for the past few millenia. It is the art of war, and now it is the Kaisereich's turn to take a hand at it.

Several letters are sent to world leaders, many of which are replies.

To Nicholas II, Tsar of all the Russias
It seems that we have reached a stalemate in terms of what we wish to accomplish. How may it be possible for Germany to withdraw its forces from its current state of readiness when you are are doing the same. Therefore, I ask you of one last time. Please relieve any and all military forces from your empire from their current state, and withdraw from this conflict immediately. This is a conflict only for the three of us to settle, and this is of no concern, be it treaty, pact, alliance or otherwise, of Russia's empire. If this one demand is not met, then I strongly advise to prepare yourselves for war to the highest degree. The German military has already mobilized and is prepared for any conflict that may arise from a clash with the Triple Entente,
Sincerely,
Kaiser Wilhelm II,
Emperor of the Germany Empire

And another

King Constantine I of the Kingdom of Greece,

While I understand and respect the urge of Greece to remain neutral in this coming war, I cannot guarantee that the Ottomans or the Austrians will be able to control themselves. You have my word that Greece shall not be ransacked by the Empire of Germany, however, the Ottoman Empire may have a different choice of words in mind. Nonetheless, should you find yourself in the situation where you are subject to an invasion by Britain and allies of Britain, then I will make no hesitation in aiding you in regaining your conquered homeland. Here's to the best for both of us,
Sincerely,
Kaiser Wilhelm II,
Emperor of the German Empire

And again, another, this time, to an old friend Germany would need help from

Sultan Mehmed V of the Ottoman Empire, or whomever may be ruling the Empire at this moment

For centuries, the Ottoman Empire had persisted, outliving other giants in history such as that of the Byzantine, Mughal, Safavid, and even our own Holy Roman Empire, as well as four Chinese dynasties. At one point, it truly seemed as if the world did belong to the Ottomans, having land claims extending into Africa, Asia, Europe, and nealy all of the Middle East. Now, that global empire is but a dream, a sense of nostalgia for the days of old. This cannot be the end for such a legendary empire. You're empire's downfall is not your fault, it is the world's. While much of the world has managed to industrialize, not a single nation has extended its full hand to aid you in your process of keeping up with the times. They seem to express the sentiment that with the Ottoman Empire being weakened, economically, politically, socially, and militaristically-wise, they will be more easily able to keep it in check, or even divide it amongst themselves when it falls. I do not wish to see this happen, for an empire almost as old as the concept of European Monarchy itself, to fall victim to the deceit and corruption of scavenger-like rulers who cannot wait for your reign to come to an end. Thus, I extend the welcoming hand of frienship and propose an alliance, in sheer secrecy, between our two nations. In joining the cause for which Germany is fighting for, I will ensure that the Ottoman Empire will be effectively reborn into a modernized version of what it was in the days of when it was most fearsome. Be prepared for much bloodshed and despair, but in return, you will be given another chance to have entire continents as your playtoys. Please consider it, and I look very forward to the continued frienship between our two nations and our citizens for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Kaiser Wilhelm II,
Emperor of the German Empire

And one more

King Albert I of the Kingdom of Belgium

These are troubling times for much of Europe, especially in our general area. War is inevitable and it is only a matter of time before the rest of the world follows through. Very soon, many nations will be pressured into joining alliances and pacts they never wished to be a part of, and some even forced. I look to you, ruler of Belgium, as a hopeful ally in this crusade against the expansionist agression of the Triple Entente. I understand that the Belgian people have seen many hardships throughout their lives that they could not bare to relive over and over. I'm heartily sorry for anything that might have come across as harmful or hostile towards the Belgian people over the years, and I see that the Kingdom of Belgium seems to have aspirations into becoming something more powerful. I can see the potential in Belgium to become a dominant power in not only Europe, but also, the World. The reason this may come across as odd to many is due to the events in history, showing that Belgium was never given a true chance to succeed as a sovereign state. I do not want for such potential to have to go to waste for such a culturally enlightened nation. It is doubtful much of the Entente would seem to care as much, considering they seem to view Belgium as just another possible battlefield, but I cannot stand seeing the people of Belgium suffer from such backlash. I wish to see a stronger, more enlightened Belgium to emerge, therefore, I offer my hand of friendship to you, and all of Belgium's people, be they Flemish, Walloon, or any other group that makes Belgium what it is. I hope for a new friendship to emerge between the Kingdom of Belgium and the Empire of Germany, along with any allies of the fatherland.
Sincerely,
Kaiser Wilhelm II,
Emperor of the German Empire

German military forces have been in the preparations for months. Now that the time has finally come to fight, they can't really come to visualize a war won so quickly. With the Triple Entente, in addition to several others. This cannot possibly be a war won fighting alone, let alone with small-scale alliances at the most. This is a new definition of war, where it can be fought anywhere and everywhere, by anyone and everyone, using anything and everything within reach to inflict any and all possible damage to any and all enemies. This is to be a war that will forever change human history, this is a World War, and everyone seems to be vieing to be a part of it. Well, almost everyone.

The lines were set and the plans were set in motion. German military units were set to advance into French and Russian lines. The Austro-Hungarians would have to fend for themselves in the meanwhile, while supplies will be carried over to them.

Knowing the sheer power held within the British Navy, the Empire of Germany will have to forge even more all powerful naval forces of its own to combat the much feared British fleets. Naval battles will set the stage for the conquering of lands, and should never come to be underestimated.

Troops in much of the African claims will have to hold themselves while reinforcements can be sent. In the colonies of South-West Africa, Togoland, and Kamerun, mass conscriptions and recruitment drives are to be placed into effect to combat the pathetically small military presence in those claims.

The Eastern African claim seems alright as it is, but only time will tell if it is able to survive the wrath of the invading nations. Reinforcements and recruitments may be needed, but for the time being, more training is the main priority.

German claims in Asia have also vied for a stronger military presence, with a more stern policy of conscription than the claims in Africa, as New Guinea is to establish somewhat of a naval presence, as well as the concession of Kiautschou Bay. A lack of support seemed to be brewing as the policy came to effect. What followed were empty yet convincing threats from the colonial governates, and it seemed to have worked somewhat.

Recruitment drives are placed into effect at the homeland, with fresh propaganda ready to circulate nationwide, and factories prepared for very long work-days. This is the new way of the world. If one does not advance, they fall. This isn't the way they may want it, but that is how it has been since the dawn of humanity. And it will continue to be so, so long as man will never be able to conquer the one vice that they've tried for so long, they cannot even remember it, but always manage to find a scapegoat for his behavior. That vice is man himself. What he does with himself from here on out will be nothing short of a catastrophe in the worst of sense.

"Send Serbia a telegram explaining what needs to be done if we are to honor our agreement" said King Constantine.

Dear King Petar I Karađorđević
As a king of nation in the Balkans you know of how difficult it is to maintain our territory what with Austro-Hungarian Empire to the north and the Ottomans to the east, if you are in need of aid I will mobilise, however if I do this I wish to be included in all treaties and industrial aid is needed if I am to field an army to actually hold the Ottomans, weak as they are, they still hold power.
Sincerely King Constantine

Kingdom of Italy

King Victor Emmanuel III looked down from a balcony of his palace in Rome. He smiled as he watched the company of soldiers below him drill like a well oiled machine. Military displays had always excited him. The recent developments of war just to the north of him had excited and terrified him. Just as he was about to walk away to attend to other issues a messenger came to him.

"My lord, we have just received a telegram from to United Kingdom. It would appear they are seeking allies in this new war, and they want us on their side."

A scowl spread across the King's face. he look at his servant and spat the words "send a message the the UK."

to: The United Kingdom
From: The Kingdom Italy

The Kingdom of Italy has no interest in assisting your passive aggressive imperialism. When the time comes we would rather have allies close to us than an empire on our doorstep. Wars such as these come about when the smaller nations band together to defeat your expansionism. The fact that you have asked us and undoubtedly other for assistance is a testament to your true weakness and fear.

Victor sat On a large red chair sipping fine wine from a crystal glass. He appeared pleased with himself. "Okay" he says "Time to Contact the Germans."

To: Germany
From: The Kingdom of Italy

Earlier today I was contacted by the english. They requested Italian assistance in striking the proud German peoples from the map. You will be pleased to know I rejected them. Also I would like to meet to discuss terms of an alliance.
-respectfully
King Victor Emmanuel III

L'Union fait la force - Eendracht maakt macht

To the Most Esteemed Kaiser Wilhelm II of the German Empire
From King Albert I of the Kingdom of Belgium and Her Territories

With the utmost pleasure I respond to you, Kaiser of the German Empire, after reading the letter you have sent. I was beginning to worry that being stuck in the middle of warring nations would only lead to a nation on all borders and two fronts, but now I find relief in my heart. The nation of Belgium will begin mobilizing it's Armed Forces at once, and our people will begin joining the ranks of the military. Your offer of alliance is happily accepted and the Belgian lands are open for your army to march through, as long as these key points are respected:

*The Belgian population is not to be harmed, insulted, harassed, or forced into anything against their will
*No private or Government property is damaged whilst your armies march through our lands
*No German soldier or it's allied soldiers will have sexual relationships with Belgian women
*When the time comes, Germany will assist Belgium in the invasion of the Netherlands

With great pleasure, Albert I of the Kingdom of Belgium
Fascismo Italiano

My name is Alfonso Rizzotto, I get overly excited much too easily!
I refer to people I respect as Signore or Signora, if your wondering.
I am an Italian Fascist that moved to America when I was a bit younger! I really like your Disney, it's older stuff is cool. Your women are scary, in fact one time a girl tried to force me to out with her, and I was so scared I almost did! Please stop letting them use testosterone!
Don't fuck with Italy man!

La republique Francaise

Once again France stood ready for war with Germany but this time the French people where prepared. Prepared to take Revenge on the hated Germans and defend la Patrie from their clutches. The President and Prime minister knew it wasn't going to be easy but they knew that with the British and Russian empire's on their side France could win if attacked. The People where starting to get fueled by Propaganda painting Germany and Austria as barbarian bullies with Russia standing up with Serbia against them.

On the military terms the Army and navy where being mobilized in case of war really did start and forces where to amass on classified locations. The Forces at the German Border where ordered to hold the line at all cost with large scale fortifications in the area making it far easier and more fortifications in the area already being in the process of building. The Colonial forces where also mobilized to quickly seize German colonies if had to come to that and the navy was being prepared protection of the French coast.

On the Home front large scale recruitment and preparations of industry was being made for better chances winning with some sentiment that the war would be over by Christmas in some circles. Other circles where sure that of a long and brutal conflict was about to start.

TO: The British Foreign secretary Edward Grey.
From: President Raymond Pointcare

France is helpful of the Support it can get from the British Empire and her dominions France's fleet's will support the Royal Navy in any operations against the German High seas fleet while French units that are not tied with fighting can support the defense of the Suez if needed.

Sincerely President Raymond Pointcare.

The United Kingdom and Colonial Territorys Of Great Britain and Ireland

Image

The cabinet had been working for what seemed like days. The Interior Secretary was asleep, his snoring drowned out by the dozen discussions, arguments and counter arguments that buzzed through the room. The PM rubbed his eyes and took another great gulp of coffee. The door swings open and through it pile a group of men carrying a great map of of the world. On it colored were the two great alliances, In Green nations declared for the Axis or those who seem to be mobilizing for war on the Axis side. In blue are those with the Entente. Grey are the Undeclared or neutral.

The Minister Of Defense sweeps his hand over the map. "Greece is likely to honor their alliance with Serbia but we just don't know. The Mexicans are moving troops to the southern boarder of the CSA, Italy has rejected our alliance and theirs a real danger that they ally with Germany, the Ottomans however have done the opposite of expected. They aren't mobilizing at all and are seemingly undeclared. If we could turn them...

The only areas of direct conflict currently are Serbia-A.H which has turned into a full-scale war and Germany launching offensives against Russia and France. MI6 is unclear on the North-American situation, what we do know is their are huge troop movements in the United States and our Canadian Positions are not under attack.

Technically we aren't in this war yet. I believe it would we good to send Germany an Ultimatum: They backdown, or the full power of the British Empire will crack down upon them."

The PM nods "Very well I'll have one written up. I need to send out several other telegrams as well. What are our own troop movements?"

Image
Canadian Militia Gearing Up

In the Canadian Theater our soldiers are digging in. The entire boarder is too long for us to man so we're defending major population centers and the Militia have been raised. These are men who turn up for training every year and though not as effective as the actual army are ready to fight and better than untrained conscripts. On paper this would give us an extra 60,000 men but in reality only 45,000 have been turning up. Major Population centers are being fortified and across the boarder trenches are being dug. The most heavily defended regions are south of Vancouver and the surrounding area as well as the Quebec and Ontario boarders. If we have to that's where we'll retreat.

Currently we have a trained force of 80,000. 3,500 Canadian Solders will move against Detroit once they occupy the city they'll barricade the streets and hold the crossing into Canada. 250 will cross and secure the opposing side of Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge but rig it with explosives so if they are forced to cross it can be destroyed behind them. And the rest will hold the line. We're enacting complete conscription of all not essential men between the ages of 16-45, they'll get a months training and then be on the lines. When that happens we can counter attack and drive the US south.

In Suez the plan still stands seeing as we don't know the Ottoman intentions yet as such we've put our 'spys' on hold in Cairo . The Colonial plan also stands, we have yet to get a french reply but we're ready to send the BEF to france at a moments notice and our fleet is in the channel ready to meet up with theirs"

We would like to ask your assistance is annihilating the German navy. With that gone we can blockade their nation and bring a swifter end to the war. When the Anglio-franc force attacks we ask that you join us from the rear. If they hide in their ports we would require your assistance in shelling the harbors and the ships within them.

We also ask that you send any men you can spare including any already stationed their through Alaska to reinfore the Canadian lines. If Canada falls, Alaska falls and the Axis have a back door into Russia.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

From:The United Kingdom
To: France

We welcome your support of our operations. We have a fleet in the channel waiting for the French navy to meet us, once you do and we have a reply from Russia the German fleet will be destroyed. We ask your permission to send the BEF into France, you will have control of them though we will still remain the over all commander of the troops and so can override any orders you send.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

From:The United Kingdom
To: Germany

Please remove any troops from entrant territory. Ask your ally's to do the same if you don't the Commonwealth and Great Britain will have no choice but to declare war.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

From:The United Kingdom

We give you fleet basing rights in Hawaii for the duration of the war on the condition that you supply men for its defense and send any spare ships to help with the eventual blockade of the US and Mexico.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

To: Greece

We would like to make it clear that if you help your brothers against Axis aggression we will defend your nation against its foes and help with its industrialization and modernization.

Sincerely Edward Grey Foreign Secretary

From:The United Kingdom
To: The Ottoman empire

We have noticed your nation has not joined with the Axis powers. We commend you on this and if you join our nations in defeating the Central powers in their war of aggression we would sign a non-aggression packed and offer you joint ownership of the Siani and a secondary tarriff on the Suez canal

Царцво Българска | Tsardom of Bulgaria

Image

Bulgaria, a nation which the people felt highly about and patriotic feeling as well as nationalism ran through the blood of the men who made Bulgaria the most powerful nation ahead of Serbia and Greece, equal to Rumania. Towns like Sliven and Stara Zagora, both battle hardened from Ottoman oppression bred warriors with the proud genes of their fighting forefathers. Mothers looked on proudly to see this young men signing up to the defend the recently independent Bulgar nation, speeded on by the Tsar and his all powerful and proud speeches addressing the Bulgarian Lion to defend her lands.

Many expected Bulgaria, angered by the lose of potential territories to states of Greece and Serbia. Never the less, the messages coming from the National Assembly in Sofia told a much different view. Bulgaria seemly wanted to ally along side Greece and Serbia, possibly the restore pre-war relations which was very successful, most notably the three pushed the Ottomans mostly out of Europe.

"What will the Ottomans do? said a headline in the Bulgarska Post newspaper. Many assumed however that if we allied with both Greece and Serbia, we could push the Austro-Hungarians from the Balkans, and perhaps turn to reclaiming Thrace from the Ottoman Empire. In time, we will talk to the Greeks and Serbs about this idea.
Image
Царцво България | The Kingdom of Bulgaria

To "Le' Entente",

Bulgaria, despite long rivalry between our Balkan neighbours of Hellas (Greece) and Serbia, feels that we must forge a new friendship with these former slaves (As were we) to our eternal enemies, the Ottomans. Thus, in this effort to achieve and normalisation to our relations, we feel it best to start by joining The Entente, who could in turn perhaps force Rumania to give up their occupied territories of Southern Dobruja, which the Bulgarian enslaved there have been denied basic rights and should return to their Motherland. If this is done, we will be indebted to you. Considering Greece is not strong enough to take on Istanbul on its own, perhaps it would he useful to you to have us work along side the Greeks to defend us from possible Ottoman aggression? I hope we will come to a fair agreement upon our possible entry to this alliance being we are accepted.

Sincerely, the Tsar of all the Bulgaria's, Tsar Ferdinand I.

Saint Petersburg, Russia
08/03/14 - August 3rd, 1914

"Your excellency!" A official messenger said, bursting into the Tsar's residence. "We just received a response from the German Empire!"

"Well don't hesitate! Speak up, boy!" Tsar Nicolas told him.

"Well, uhm, they declined the ultimatum, Sir." He informed Nicolas.

Nicolas stood there, somewhat in disbelief, though it was unlikely the Germans were to accept the ultimatum, he was still in belief that the Russian Empire's strength would undermine the German intent to interfere in the war. "Thank you, now begone." He commanded.

"As you wish." The messenger followed and scurried away.

The Tsar began his journey to begin a discussion with the advisers to his administration, no doubt the invasion of Germany was nigh in the mind of Nicolas. The Russian armies massing at the border were itching for a fight, and they were about to be given the command.

He walked into the room in which the advisers had gathered. The Russian Tsar looked at his military adviser, stating only one thing before continuing on his way.

"Into Germany we go."

Thorn, Germany
08/05/14 - August 5th, 1914

Russian soldiers, the age varying from newly made-men to men in their mid forties, gathered near the border just days ago. The Russian troops had been long awaiting the command to cross into the small town of Thorn that was close to the Russo-German border. Now, they had finally received that order to go into enemy territory.

Nearly 100,000 soldiers poured into the border, maintaining their level of secrecy until reaching Thorn. The locals thought that the marching soldiers was part of some German battalion traveling to or fro Austria-Hungary, they weren't sure which though. They continued to carry out their normal day for only a few more minutes before gunshots rang throughout the small town. The German town was totally caught off guard as they realized that the force was foreign and as the army got closer, the scramble for shelter became more frantic.

The force attacking Thorn had branched off of the main army that had also crossed just hours ago, they had been given the task of securing the city so that the rest of the forces could travel through with out being ambushed. The some 5,000 men steamrolled through the town, mercilessly firing upon men, women, and children alike. Homes, and the local doctor's office and school were ransacked then burnt down. As the vicious attack on a helpless town cooled itself, the rest of the 100,000 man army arrived into Thorn, finding shelter in the ruins of homes to stow away in for the time being.

This was the tactic they would use on reinforcing Germans. A simple ambush, let them think that the town was destroyed and then the Russians carried on, but as they inspected they would come out from their hiding places and open fire on anything German that they could see. The soldiers sat and waited in the smoking and charred remains of what was once a beautiful residential area. Begging the Germans to come and join them.

To: Edward Grey, The United Kingdom
From: Tsar Nicolas II, The Russian Empire
Encryption: HIGH

I have thought over your offer, and with myself being in agreeance that there is no need for this war to be lengthy and overextended. With that stated, I will gratefully donate my willingness for the Russian Navy to work along side the British in deconstructing the German Navy.

In your request to spare troops to the Canadian border, I will move a portion of 300,000 men stationed in Alaska to travel through Canada and place their selves in Vancouver, Canada. That is with a permitting agreement, of course. I am currently planning on moving one-half of my troops to Vancouver upon approval.

Signed,
Nicolas II

Pacific
Thirty four vessels of the US Pacific fleet left their ports along the western seaboard under total secrecy. This flotilla included 23 torpedo boats and half a dozen heavy cruisers. It also included several troopships carrying 4,000 US marines and infantry. The fleet zigzagged across the pacific for weeks, avoiding shipping lanes and outside the range of scouting vessels. On the final day, the fleet reorganized and steamed towards their target: the port of Pearl Harbor on the British colony of the Sandwich Isles (aka Hawaii).

The torpedo boats went in first, creating a screen for the battleships and heavy cruisers. They launched their payload torpedoes onto the British vessels still at harbor while the other warships provided covering fire. Under the screen of the attack, the troopships landed southern section of the isle of Oahu. The soldiers, supported by artillery from the cruisers went for the naval guns and fortifications placed by the British on the island. The US’s goal is to cripple the British fleet’s capabilities in Pacific and take the island chain before the Entente forces have properly mobilized in the Pacific.

Image
The torpedoes first targeted the British heavy cruisers so to use their wreckages to block the rest of the fleet in the harbor

Atlantic
On the other side of the world, the US Atlantic fleet was also making their move. 42 heavy warships of the US Atlantic Fleet departed from their ports in New York and Boston and made a straight push to the Confederate naval base in Norfolk. Instead of a speedy capture, the US sought the total destruction of the facility. Norfolk was one of the largest naval bases in the Americas and it also held the Norfolk shipyard. Without the base and its ships, the CSA would be hard pressed to offer meaningful resistance to US naval hegemony in the western North Atlantic.

The naval guns of the USS Pennsylvania fired the first shot in the war, quickly followed by the other batteries of her sister warships. War has officially come to America.

Submarines have also been deployed off the coast of Newfoundland and along the British-South American trade routes. They have been given the go to attack any vessel trading with the British Isles. Britain may be an industrial powerhouse, but without the food and raw materials from the rest of the world, she will starve on her lonely island.

US-Confederate border

Fighting has also begun on land as 80,000 troops made their first push into Confederate territory under support from heavy artillery fire. The two major pushes came from Marshal Pershing’s 1st army into Kentucky/Mississippi and General Custer’s 4th army into Texas. Lt. Generals Liggett and March were told to dig in and defend their positions at all cost.

The Maryland and Mississippi defense line were of considerable notice as crisscrossed trench networks stretched for hundreds of miles. Those defense lines were supported by heavy artillery installations as well as barb wires.

Several wartime emergency legislation have begun the process of converting the US’s mighty industrial power base from consumer based to military related. Factories making cars now make military trucks and factories making leather good now churned out boots by the thousands. A draft is also being circulated among the legislature in Pennsylvania, but so far the Socialist Party refuses to sign up to a draft.

US-Canadian border

Lt. General Bliss has also been given the go to invade British Canada, but instead of heading for Ottawa as expect, he ordered his troops to invade along Southwestern Ontario through Detroit. In a briefing among the top brass, the Lt. General has opted for a divide and conquer strategy in Canada. He sought to cut off the rail and road network that connected Canada’s east to the prairie province of central Canada. A detachment of 8000 men is also sent to French Canada to “liberate” Quebec from the British.

Image
Official Declaration of War from the United States of America

In accordance to the Berlin Compact, the United States of America officially declares war on the Entente powers of Russia, the United Kingdom and the Confederate States of America. The United States do so in defense of her allies in Austria-Hungary and Germany, who were unjustly attacked by the Russian aggressor. The United States will decide on peace when past wrongs have been righted and peace is declared in Europe.

THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA

Image

14 August 1914
The United States had officially declared war on the Confederate States and her allies. Like a well oiled machine, the Confederate Army carried out orders to meet the yankee bastards head on. Commander Charles P. Summerall was the finest tactician in all of the Confederacy, maybe even the whole western hemisphere. He meticulously arranged the movements of all 10 Confederate Armies.

The 1st Army (250,000) under Major General Preston Brown have dug deep trenches on the southern side of the Potomac.

The 6th Army under Major General Robert K. Evans have trenched and fortified positions stretching along the Virginian border with West Virginia.

On the Confederate side of the Ohio River the 3rd Army under Major General Hugh Lennox Scott has prepared to launch an offensive into Kentucky. Artillery has pounded enemy positions on the other side, softening things up for the assault.

Major General J. Franklin Bell of the 2nd Army has been tasked with holding onto Missouri. Defensive positions are being constructed on Missouri's borders with the Union.

On the Oklahoma and northeaster New Mexican borders is the 4th Army under Major General William G. H. Carter who has prepared for a swift strike north. Men have been loaded on to as many truck as the Confederacy could muster but it still wasn't enough to carry everyone. The Native soldiers in Oklahoma, formally known as the Indian Territory are extremely efficient with assaults on horseback. They will quickly make their way north, ambushing all in their path. They will then meet at an undisclosed rally point to resupply.

The 5th Army under Major General George B. Duncan is stretched from Colorado to western Utah. They will take strategic mountain passes and sabotage them from being used. They are to then protect Confederate territory for the duration of the war. An assault through the Rockies would be disastrous for both sides.

Major General William Crawford Gorgas and the 7th Army have prepped for an assault on California. They have split into 2 separate forces. One en route to Las Vegas. The other, San Diego. The forces will make predetermined stops along the way for water as the August Sun is fierce in the south west.

Finally, the 8th Army under Major General Douglas MacArthur, the youngest Major General in Confederate history at the age of 34, has split the 8th into three brigades of over 83 thousand. They have taken positions in Navojoa, Sonora, Parral, Chihuahua and McAllen, Texas. They have been ordered not to attack Mexico if at all possible. But to protect the borders from potential raids.
