HOST ANNOUNCEMENT

Good day everyone.

All nations with an intent to participate in the Tueres Tenis de Sangti must RP their entry to the tournament in this thread. Nations can send at most 2 singles participants and 1 participant for waitlisting. RP can be of any way and will count as roster bonus. Only nations and SINGLES players that are signed up for the second season will be considered. Signups will close at 1 July 2013 at 1300H Philippine Standard Time (GMT + 8). If the number of participants does not reach 32, waitlisted entries can be accepted in ascending order of entry, meaning the earlier the sign up, the first to be accepted.

The first round of the tournament will be on 2 July. RP cutoffs will then be daily at 2200H PST (GMT + 8). (OOC: apologies then to the early cutoff as I am located in the Far East.)

Schedule
2 July: Round of 32
3 July: Round of 16
4 July: Quarterfinals
5 July: Break
6 July: Semifinals
7 July: Finals and 3rd place match

Please direct all questions either to the OOC thread, or a telegram to my puppets, which can be accessed by clicking on the links in my signature.

As of July 1, 2013, 13000H PST, There are 26 entries for the TT Sangti. (Updated until Thatius)

VauganiaSportsToday

ITA Season Begins July 1st

The second season of the International Tennis Association begins on July 1st with the Silver Racket and the Banco del Prado - Tueres Tenis de Sangti. This season will feature 56 singles players, up to 48 of whom will get their first points in one of the two aforementioned competitions. There are also 23 doubles teams entered for competition. Both of the tournaments on July 1st are singles only, so the doubles likely won't see any action until the Alversian Open of July 8th.

Two Vauganian tennis players will be joining the circuit this year. They are Padraig O'Dea and Gunnar Axelsen. O'Dea is quick to think and quick on his feet. He likes to outsmart and outmaneuver his opponents rather than overpower them. He possesses excellent shot placement and will not be outdone when it comes to long rallies. His countrymen Gunnar Axelsen is same in some ways, but different in many other ways. Gunnar stands at a broad and tall 6 feet, 3 inches compared to the thinner 5 foot, 10 inch frame of O'Dea. Axelsen also has very adequate reactions, but also has a wicked shot. Axlesen is not the most graceful creature in his movements, but he makes up for it with raw power. This does occasionally make for erratic shots, but those a somewhat rare.

Both Vauganians will be in the Tueres Tenis de Sangti the first week of competition with their eyes on 75 points and number 1 position on the tour. Their 7 week journey will take them to places like Sangti, Alversia, Levivania, and The Inevitable Syndicate among others including back home in Vaugania with the Howeburton Country Club Challenger, a singles tournament beginning July 22nd. Be sure to tune in for all of the tennis excitement.

OOC: I am declaring entry for both Padraig O'Dea and Gunnar Axelsen into the Tueres Tenis de Sangti.

Public Confirmation
The Syndicatian Tennis Authority has confirmed it's signups for the first two tournaments of this current tennis season. Antonio Cronin & Michelle Newton have submitted themselves to go to the Tueres Tenis de Sangti, and we wish them all the best during the tournament. Callum Wilkinson & Alice Berry have put themselves forward for a chance at claiming the Silver Racket, in Levivania.

It's wonderful to see a strong prevalence of tennis tournaments crop up in recent months, helped in part (I hope) by the success of the Syndicatian Slam, held right here on Bishop's Common in Burgess. The slam will return as the finale event of the season, and we hope that there will be a strong turnout from many different countries. But for now, we hope those potential competitors enjoy the tournaments that come before ours.

Best of luck to everyone,
Archie Mibeck

RICCARDO CHIELLINI WINS ECOSSE OPEN

Riccardo Chiellini has begun his preparation for the Tueres Tenis de Sangti with victory in the domestic Ecosse Open, which may be open to internationals in the near future, possibly in the next international tour run. Chiellini, although clear favourite to win the competition, faced stiff competition throughout, most notably against top player Ricko Mozzarello in the Quarter-Finals, who came back from two sets down to provide a major scare for both Chiellini and all those punters who had bets on him. Analysis and results follow:

First on the First Day on Centre-Court of the Baron's Tennis Club in Armadillo in the Ecosse Open was Albert Wolfson and Florentino LaFleur, one a seasoned professional and the other making his debut respectively. Wolfson, winner of the Open in 2007, was a serious doubt with a knee injury before the tournament but managed to return just in time. LaFleur, on the other hand, is the brother of top international footballer Curt LaFleur, and showed in his performance why he, like his brother, is seen as one of the rising stars of Ecossian Sport. Wolfson, as expected, walked the first set, and looked well on his way to an easy first round victory until LaFleur fought back and one the Second, breaking Wolfson immediately and knocking the confidence and swagger momentarily out of his play. Wolfson then took the third, before a cracker of a fourth set, with Wolfson winning 40-15 at 5-3 before a comeback from LaFleur saw Wolfson actually lose the set. The comeback took its toll and LaFleur, and Wolfson easily won 6-1 in the final set, and thus progressed to the next round.

On Court 5 and Court 6 there were two other memorable matches, Karl Linton fighting back to beat the aging Roger Carson and Frank Dillinger throwing away a two set lead to lose 3-2 to local lad Tom Ennis. But the crowds that day were there to see one man only, the second game on centre-court between Riccardo Chiellini and Dan Van Persie attracting a very large following. Its fair to say that Chiellini easily walked it, and the fans were left slightly disappointed by the length of the game, done in just over an hour.

Ricko Mozzarella and Willy Stenwright, both also big players, progressed from their matches, against Duncan Carlini and Kenneth Freeman respectively, and went on to the quarter finals. There were interesting encounters for Marty McDane and Ryan Berdic, who both had to fight off possible threats, this time from Gabreille DeNicki and Barry Nixon.

QUARTER-FINAL RESULTS

Marty McDane66656
Ryan Berdic34774
NEXT GAME
Riccardo Chiellini67346
Ricko Mozzarello36663
NEXT GAME
Albert Wolfson121
Karl Linton666

The match of the quarter finals was a simple pick, a draw from the bowl pitting Ecossian Number One Riccardo Chiellini against his fellow player and good friend Number Three Ricko Mozzarello. Whereas Chiellini's first round tie could have been seen as disappointing, this game was anything but. Chiellini eased through the first set 6-3, Mozzarello looking tired and weary, still reeling from the effects of his epic game three days before. He perked back into life in the second set, losing out 10-8 in the tie-break to go 2-0 sets wise, losing it 7-6. But in the third and fourth set, Mozzarello showed the qualities to his play that could well make him a major contender for Chiellini's top spot. Mozzarello broke twice in the third set to win 6-3, and again he broke in the fourth to win 6-4. His serving, which was highly powerful and accurate, was clearly too much for Chiellini, who began to show his frustration. But in the end it was too much for Mozzarello. Clearly now lacking in pace from not enough rest, Chiellini easily powered through him, winning 6-3 in the end and proceeding to the semi-finals.

Albert Wolfson announced his retirement from tennis after being trounced 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets by Karl Linton, who celebrated in his familiar style by staying for forty minutes signing programmes and generally annoying the stewards. Wolfson said: "I've now been playing for a good thirteen years, and after the birth of my second son Jon I have decided that it is time for me to give up the game. Perhaps now I'll get some rest, although not likely with the new-born in the house"

There was an exciting tie between Willy Stenwright and Tom Ennis, but it was Stenwright who was victorious due to some controversial exchanges between Ennis and the umpire regarding some of the crowd, who Ennis believed to be attempting to "put him off". Video evidence has proven of no such exchanges, and Ennis's reputation has taken a hit for his outburst. It will be a major setback for the 19 year-old, who was only competing at his second Ecosse Open, having been knocked out funnily enough by Stenwright in the first round last year.

Marty McDane was the major surprise to have reached the semi-finals, defeating Ryan Berdic in a five set thriller. This was the first time in his five year career that McDane had progressed further than the first round in the Open, and so to progress even further, and against such tough opposition, was a major suprise for punters and bookies alike.

SEMI-FINAL RESULTS
Willy Stenwright62626
Marty McDane36262
NEXT GAME
Riccardo Chiellini666
Karl Linton424

Marty McDane's heroic run to the semis was ended by Willy Stenwright in another memorable game which added to what the critics are calling "The Best Ecosse Open in History". The sets went in alternate directions, Stenwright then McDane then Stenwright and on and on. It was a strange game, no one player particularly grasping the game with both hands, that is until Stenwright claimed victory in the final set. There was poignant moments post-match when McDane made a brief speech, wishing Stenwright all the luck in the final and that he hopes to replicate his run in the near future.

In the other game, Riccardo Chiellini easily beat Ecossian number seven Karl Linton, who was just not good enough on the day. Despite previous performances leaning towards the prospect of an exciting match between the two, in the end it was too much for Linton and Chiellini won 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

FINAL RESULT
Riccardo Chiellini6676
Willy Stenwright7351

Riccardo Chielliniand Willy Stenwright went head to head in what is considered to be one of the best finals in recent history. Despite taking the first set in a tight game, Chiellini proved to be just too much for Stenwright, and, in front of 20,000 avid tennis fans who had paid only 10 NS$ to get in he lost 7-6, 3-6, 5-7, 1-6, Chiellini especially powerful in the final set, powering past the clearly tired Stenwright who it seemed had really given up hope by this point.

Next up is the Tueres Tenis de Sangti, where Riccardo Chiellini will go head to head with the best that the World can offer. He is in fine form, and it will no doubt be an exciting time for the top player, who has now left Nouvel Ecosse victorious.

A sporting nation that enters lots of things and never does very well. A bit like Ireland, or Israel.

Tennis St. Lucoa.

Tennis seems to be very popular, now, amongst the international community - within the last few months we have seen various tournaments become open to foreign participant, including our own Bank of the West Classic.

Tennis players from all around St. Lucoa are excited at this new opportunity to become a better and more efficient tennis player. However, the already well established tennis players are looking at progressing far, an even winning, tournaments in foreign nations.

Soon two tournaments will start - The Silver Racquet, held in Levivania and The Tueres Tenis De Sangti, held in Sangti. In The Silver Racquet Tournament, St. Lucoa will be represented by Frank Hutch. This challenger tournament will give him valuable experience and game time, not to mention he will get a few tour points to his name. St. Lucoa will be represented by Paul Conjiaki and Matt McCaldorn in The Teueres Tenis De Sangti. These two veterans will be looking to make a name for themselves and show they can be dangerous players on the tour. With George Beck in reserve for this tournament, it looks like St. Lucoa's chances are high.

All of the players are looking forward to participating. Frank Hutch said that,

'The challengers are vital, as they allow for me to improve against players that have the same level of ability as me'.

While Matt McCaldorn said,

'Myself and all other St. Lucoan players and fans are really looking forward to this tournament. We will do well, but we must take each game as it comes.'

We can be sure St. Lucoa will do well in both of these tournaments.

HOST ANNOUNCEMENT

30 minutes left before signups close. However if the number of entries does not exceed 32, I will extend the signup cutoff until 2200H PST (which is roughly 9 hours and 30 minutes away.)

Espagnola entries are officially purged. I will allow 6 more signups provided that the waitlisted entries are also accepted.

UPDATE:

As of 1300H PST, signups are still open, and I will accept ALL provisional entries. Signups will close after six more signups. (OOC: I don't want a random bye so I am trying my best to make it to 32 entries.)
