APH: Why you should hate it (Closed temporarily)

(As the OP it is my responsibility to lead the thread with my own opinion so here goes)

First let me say this:

If you've never heard of Axis Powers Hetalia, don't look it up. Especially if you're a susceptible girl who like manga, than you'd be drawn into it like a fly to a light.

Basically what it is is, a webcomic turned manga webseries, turned fandom that receives too much attention about personified countries involved in world war 2 (focused really on Italy, Germany and Japan.)

Sounds interesting right? Well here's were it gets bad: All of it's main characters are pale, blonde, bishi (basically anime prettyboys) and full of homosexual innuendo that serves no purpose other than to make a manga out of something. Common arguments supporting the show are that
"its educational", or the contradictory "it's not meant to educate it's a satire!".

Well to argue against both of those points, I will say this. First of all, it's in no possible way educational, and second of all, a satire should have some truth in it, none of which can be found.

Why I hate it (Including important points you should read before commenting.)
1) The stereotypes are either innacurate or completely made up. IE Greece owning alot of cats, Poland cross-dressing, etc. No real life stereotypes are included. In fact, the south Korean government banned it for this reason.

2) They don't show actual relationships between countries. For instance, China and Japan are depicted as tsundere friends, you know, because the Rape of Nanjing never occurred (at least according to the Japanese government).

3) All the characters are white. Pale white. Egypt, who is depicted in it is white. Seychelles, is a white little girl. Nope, no darker skin shades, probably because it's not "kawaii desu" enough.

4) No real history is depicted because it's just too depressing I guess. All of world war 2 is trivialized to the point where veterans probably roll in their graves.

5) The fandom. Thats probably the real reason I, and so many others, loath APH. Why? Well one word: yaoi. For those unfamiliar yaoi is art/fiction focused on young boys in platonic or sexual (it's usually the latter) relationships. When I say boys, it's usually prepubescent to late teens. And the fandom is OBSESSED with making yaoi out of Hetalia. It's tiring to go on deviantART, type in the name of a country and get bombarded with yaoi and or fanart!

Like, what's the point of this whole thread? It can't be for discussion (you just told someone who likes it to get out, so you clearly don't want anyone disagreeing with your precious little opinion).

1) Eh, it's somewhat educational. Like, Rome being the father of Italy and a few other things like that. So, you're kind of incorrect. Also, that's a retarded reason to ban a show. Like, we might as well ban every show that isn't educational then.

2) The joke, it's flying waaaay over your head.

3) If you've paid attention, most anime characters are white as fuck. Hetalia is barely that unique.

4) I guess we should all hate Blackadder Goes Forth for all the WWI jokes.

5) The Internet is for everyone. I've seen art work paying "tribute" to actual mass-murderers. If it's the Yaoi fanart on Deviantart that's bothering you, I honestly envy you.

So basically all this thread boils down to is... yeah. Hating a series is perfectly fine, but attacking it's fanbase just seems petty and trollish, and does not endear (many) people to your argument. I recommend keeping this in mind the next time you open a discussion thread.

i dont know if you've noticed but fairly often anime characters don't even physically resemble human beings.

hetalia is clearly an attempt at representing nations and making them all white (waaaah they do it toooo is not an argument)

no i think the creators were too clever to actually put anything of weight in their program - much easier to sell when it's substanceless rubbish you can sell to a bunch of deviant art users and so called history nerds.
