Banned symbols in your nation

Postby Vloskovia » Sun Aug 05, 2012 5:00 am

Are there any symbols that are banned in your nation? If so, why? What is the punishment for displaying them?

In Vloskovia, it is illegal to display symbols of the former monarchy. This law was established after the 1922 Revolution. An exception is made for educational use, such as displaying them in history books or museums.

None. But if there are a lot of complaints about the symbol the police will ask you to remove it from public view.

There are no symbols banned in Kvatchdom, but the American flag, if in public, tends to be burned by teenagers.

Banned symbol in Alexandr Land.

Postby Alexandr Land » Sun Aug 05, 2012 5:09 am

The banned symbol in Alexandr Land is a nazi swastika and everyone who draw it will be sentenced for 12 years. And also a LGBT flag is banned and everyone who will be with the LGBT will be sentenced for 8 years.

No symbols are currently prohibited in Transhuman Proteus.

The nation is highly secular however, so religious symbols do not adorn any Government buildings or state property. As the nation's population is mostly Atheist however no one is really trying to get the government to decorate state property with religious symbols anyway though.

No symbol is banned as such but, any symbol used in a hate speech context may be presented as supporting evidence to demonstrate an affiliation with a hate group in the resulting hate speech trial.

We define hate speech as any method of communication used to incite hatred towards or fear in a particular group, this may also include the use of symbols which have undertones of hatred that are well known to a certain group or groups. For example publishing a pamphlet or creating graffiti that is intended to accomplish this would be considered to be hate speech.

Here is a list of banned symbols in CL:

<This space intentionally left blank>
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

All leftist insignia in Hippostania, including the hammer and sickle or any combination of two tools and the red star are banned. The ban can pretty much be extended over any insignia which seems pro-socialist, and that is why even innocent symbols like grain, wheat and cogwheels are avoided.

No specific symbols are banned; however, displaying symbols such as the Nazi Swastika in public or online can get you reported to the police for 'disturbing public order', especially if there is an element of hate (i.e. racism), which usually results in the police getting you to remove said symbols. Repeat offenders could theoretically be charged in court and jailed, though that has not happened before.

There are no symbols that are "banned", per se, but many a Union Jack has been known to be vandalised with orange paint.

The language is called "Travonatian" which is Tanovart backwards plus -ian. It's...complicated.

No banned symbols, but symbols of religion, like the cross, is quickly vandalised and/or burned, so you rarely see them.

None are banned as such, but the swastika and hammer and sickle are like knives;you can legally own them in your house or out in the countryside, and the police rarely stop and search for them, but if you display them in a town or city and someone calls the police, you could end up in trouble.

The only symbol that's banned in Varijnland is the "tri-cross" symbol for the threeist uprising of 1877 then again in 1979. It was banned because the symbol was also used to mark where Royalist troops were executed by threeist rebels. When the rebelion was crushed; twice, wannabes and unruly university students carried on using the symbol at rallies and protests.

There are no banned symbols in the PROR. This doesn't mean you can plaster your busines with Swastikas without a reaction, though; doing this will most likely recieve a complaint from customers and potential loss in revenue and you may recieve a complaint notice from the regional government.
Colonies of the PROR:
Cape of New Beginnings (independent)
Weatherington (independent)
Luna Praetoria
Blackweather (independent)
Conshockton (independent)

Saint Nova (independent)
Snowpoint
City-states of the PROR:
Kravchenkograd
Dimitrigrad

The PROR is a non-Communist people's republic.

All kinds of nazi, fascist, gay, islamic and American flags, logos, mottos, anthems etc. are banned in the Armed Republic of Esperanza Perdida. Whether a citizen of AREP has for example a flag of USA in his/her home, he/she is sent to a labour camp for no less than 5 years.

No symbols are de jure banned, but public display of some symbols can get people arrested for being suspected of terrorism. Not that that ever happens *shifts eyes side to side*

despite being a firmly ir-religious nation, Symbols of religions are not banned. Well... all except for one:

The White flag is the symbol for the cult of Zwebog. The cult that the Exceptionalists forced down everyone’s throat and used it to subjugate the people. It is universally despised, and soon after the fall of the Exceptionalists, the Parliament was flooded with petitions to have the thing banned.
