Mine is cancer because nuclear power is our main power source, and the power plants are everywhere. However our nuclear power plants contain massive radiation leaks, causing people to get cancer.

As I recall, for awhile death was almost exclusively attributable to old age, with some acts of God thrown in. Then I took the direction of government doing jack shit for every situation. wut? You must have an appalling Nuclear Infrastructure to let radiation escape into your population.

The leading cause of death in my nation is Old age/Euthenasia, the reason being is that the homeworld has a strict population cap as to not displace the natural order of things.
Therefore when the population begins to age volunteers of an older age are found (usually age 100+) to be deported to another system. If they wish they can be euthenised if they do not wish to depart from their homeland.

It sounds much more barbaric than it actually is.
