The Venetian Army
Constant Vigilance

The Venetian Army has it is known today was founded in late 20th century when it broke away from the united Italian state. Since it's creation, the Army has been a small force, mostly comprised of mercenaires who are highly experienced from fighting in almost every European war. However, this began to change in 3326 when Doge Constantino Savoy I began several military reforms, one which included enlisting Venetians into the armed forces to help balance the scales between Venetian and mercenary.
Today, the Army is known mostly as a defensive force due to it's small size, however they are highly equipped and trained and are more then a force to be reckoned with if provoked and are often regarded as the most experienced soldiers in southern and eastern Europe, if not all of Europe due to the fact that they can be hired as mercenaires by other nations if the Doge permits it.

The Soldiers of the Army

Venetian Line Infantry

Image

The mainstay of the Venetian Army, the Line Infantry are the most common soldier one would see on a Venetian battlefield, right next to a mercenary. They wear the standard uniform of the Army, a dark navy blue with red trimmings. It is said that the blue is supposed to represent Venezia's waters that surround her and that Venezia lives off of while the red represents the courage and strength found in every Venetian soldier.
Typical Line Infantry are equipped with the EA-43 Linear Musket, a not out of the ordinary .65 caliber linear musket developed in 3320 by La Serenissima's Royal Foundries. It is built out of strong oak and yew wood milled from Ragusa and iron that comes from San Marco and the Asteroid Belt outposts. Line Infantry are also each equipped with a rapier and bayonet for close quarters combat
A unique thing about the Venetian Line Infantry is their Cycling Formation, which is when the entire Regiment lines up as usual, however the first Line will fire and then crouch while the line behind it fires the first reloads and this repeats on and on and on. It is designed to keep a rapid barrage of fire laid down on the enemy while also minimizing the space an enemy soldier can shoot at.
All Venetian Battalions are equipped with what is called a Pelast which is to say a heavy tracked vehicle with two heavy repeaters on it. There is one for every battalion and it is so large that it is able to house tow Void shields just for it shelf, but it can also project outward to protect nearby soldiers. Battalions also have the Regale Battalion Kinetic Shield which projects off of the Regimental Aqui's to form the battalion shield. While many nations expect and think Venetians are a small untrained force, it's quite stereotypical and and utterly false. The average Venetian Line Infantry receives 5 months of training and 80 practice shots a month with an additional 70 a year, in peace times as well as a month of swordsmanship skill sessions to train them in the use of a rapier.

Venetian Mercenario
Probably the most well known unit of the Venetian Army, the Mercenario is a soldier in the Venetian Army that chose to be a Mercenario at time of enlistment and thus is sent away to fight for foreign nations in foreign wars in exchange for gold. They are the most experienced men of the Army as they have seen more wars and conflict then the Line Infantry and other units of the Venetian Army who rarely get more then a border skirmish twice a decade. They also tend to have the more fancier and expense equipment as their salary lira piles up over the years.
Their uniform is similar to that of the Line Infantry's except it lacks the crown's on the shoulders and instead as two arrows on the right sleeve as well as green applets. They also can add decorative items to their uniforms, unlike the Line Infantry who is only allowed to do it their parade uniform

Venetian Carabinieri
The Carabinieri are the light cavalry for the Venetian Army and are usually picked because they are strong and can move fast. They are equipped with a medium Power Armor suit so they can move around faster then the Dragoons and Cavaliere. The Carabinieri are equipped with a heavy repeater carbine as well as a linear pistol and a power sabre for close quarters combat with other cavalry or enemy vehicles. They receive 3 months of training and 50 practice shots a month during training as well as a additional 60 after they are out of training. They are also the cheapest cavalry to field in the Venetian Army.

Venetian Cavaliere
A mix of medium and heavy cavalry, the Cavaliere are the stable of the Venetian cavalry for being able to move fast and also pack a punch. Their armor varies, they can wear either medium or heavy Power Armor, depending on the user preference or his commander's orders. They are all equipped with a heavy powered repeater as well as a linear carbine and powered sabre for close quarters combat. The one feature that the Cavaliere are known for is charging straight at enemy lines and trampling squads maybe even platoons of enemy soldiers to death before they even start firing. They are often used in ambushes, surprise attacks and flanking maneuvers.

Venetian Dragoons

Equipment of the Venetian Army:

EA-43 Linear Rifle
Image
Weight: 11.3 pounds (4.8 kg)
Length: 59.5 inches (1,490 mm)
Barrel length: 44 inches (1,100 mm)
Cartridge: 0.71 inches (18 mm) lead ball, undersized to reduce the effects of powder fouling.
Caliber: 0.76 inches (19 mm)
Action: Flintlock
Rate of Fire: User dependent

The EA-43 was first manufactured in mass quantities in 3315 after the Venetian Army officially adopted it as it's service rifle, slated to replace the Dutch Trodgen Arm's DC-37. The EA-43 was a more powerful musket, firing a .75 caliber round which was designed to penetrate through personal kinetic shields with ease and battalion shields with better ease then before. It's longer then the DC-37 in order to get more range out of it, with a good soldier being able to hit a target in a kill zone 65 feet out and hit him in general from 73 feet out.

EA-24 Sharpshooter
Image
Weight: 12 pounds (5 kg)
Length: 64.2 inches (1,600 mm)
Barrel Length: 54 inches (1,200 mm)
Cartridge: 0.85 Minie ball
Caliber: 0.90 inches
Action: Flintlock
Rate of Fire: User dependent

The EA-24 was developed just about two years prior to the launch of the Fourth Crusade by the French Empire and was issued to only two regiments with the highest marksmenship rating within the Venetian Army. When both regiments participated in the Crusade and specifically, the Battle of Fort Al-Mehmed, it proved that the EA-24 was beyond the limits of a service rifle, but would serve perfectly as a marksmen rifle, with it's overtly large caliber and round as well as it's length and weight. Following the conclusion of the Crusade, thousands more were made and issued, to both Venetian regulars and armies all over the galaxy.

St.Mark II Light Tank
Image
First entering service in 3298, the St.Mark continues to show that Venice is one of the very few nations that still employs tanks on the battlefield in more then a support role. The St.Mark is more lightly armed then others, only armed it's main gun, which is a 6lb gun, and two heavy repeaters. It's armor is also lesser in comparison then others, however it's Catazania Claudia Engine can power it around fast enough to dodge munitions from a more powerful, yet slower enemy.

Hercules Self-Propelled Artillery Gun
Image
The Hercules entered service in 3301, just after the turn of the century in order to continue with the Venetian artillery. It's a self towed 102mm gun carriage and up until 3315, it was the only artillery piece in service with the Venetian Armed Forces

Verabatum 93mm Howitzer
Image
Entering service in 3315, the Verabatum became the main stay artillery piece for the Venetian military with more then one thousand pieces rolled of the assembly lines and put into service within the first month since it was officially released as a product.

Cerebus Main Battle Tank
Image
More heavily armored and gunned then the St. Mark, this tank will be a force to reckon with for any unit, from Scottish line infantry to Russian Dragoon. Entering service in 3289 and undergoing a design refit in 3320, it's widely considered one of the most venerable Venetian units ever. It packs four Void shields which it can project out on a regiment or two should their Battalion shield fail and it also has a twin barrel gun turret, that boasts 12lb guns, with two heavy repeater guns attached as well as one 6lb gun on the side, one of which can fire an experimental grenade which supposedly can short out an enemy kinetic shield
