It's a Gay Life

Postby Buffett and Colbert » Sun Mar 13, 2011 5:12 pm

Ohaider.

In the spirit of diversity, several Generalites wanted to make a thread for discussing homosexuality. More specifically, this is a place for you to share your stories, talk about concerns you may have, or anything else of importance that merits serious discussion. Emphasis on the serious. It has to be of regular NSG quality. That's not to say that we can't have fun here, but be mindful that spam and excessive flirting would probably not be looked kindly upon.

And this isn't exclusively for gays, either. Even if you love tits and vaginas, and are disgusted by the thought of anything else (or vice versa), please give your two cents.

Of course, everyone is to be respectful, no trolling or flaming, yadda yadda. I shouldn't have to say it. Oh, and no drama.

So to kick off the discussion (and this can serve as a fallback too), share your stories about growing up, whether you're still in the process or whether you've gone through the trials and tribulations. Conversation won't be restricted to this, but it has to have a clear point.

If I loved tits and vaginas exclusively that would be quite gay of me. :P

Lesbians aren't gay, they're lesbians. Duh.

I've never liked it when people use the term gay to refer to lesbians. To me, it seems like lesbians get their own word, let us have our word.

My upbringing and events relating to my sexuality left me surely, violent and urged me to compile a small criminal record.
The brain haemorrhage didn't help either.

At different points in my getting older (hurr, as if I'll ever grow up) I've identified as a straight guy, a bi guy, a gay guy, a straight woman and, most recently, a lesbian.

Confused? Imagine how I bloody felt...

They have their own word. Lesbians. Gay should be a word specifically reserved for male homosexuals, not a blanket term for all homosexuals.

At what point does a person become gay? At creation? At adolescence? I can't tell when it comes to me. I played with barbies as a kid, but as a child I always found two guys hugging to be disgusting. I'm not sure at what point I changed, and or became aware.

Personally, I think that a person's sexuality is pretty much determined by their genetics and hormonal factors during development. That's not to say that other things can't affect their sexuality, but for the most part, someone is pretty much born gay, straight, etc...

No poll? It's not a real thread if there's no poll. :P

Anyhow, there's a question I'd like to ask of you all. See, I'm in the closet, and I'd like to be out of it. However, I'm not so sure about how to go about telling my parents. There's no real way to work that into conversation, you know, and I'd rather not just go up to them and be all like "guess what, I'm gay".

Funny thing is, I have no problem telling my friends (except that I really ought to tell my parents first) but all the problems telling my parents. I know my parents would be cool with it, but there it is.

I would like to confirm once again that anything you type is quote-worthy.

That aside, I would like to pose this question: Why does it matter so much to those who dislike gays/lesbians/etc if homosexual marriage is allowed? Does it in some way transfer their "sin" to them? Does it mean they will have to get homosexually-married? I don't get it.

Are bisexual males gay, or their own thing?

I never even guessed I would be anything but straight as a kid. When I first heard about what gay people *are*, I was like "that's weird". The first time I was ever attracted to a guy, it took probably several months for me to come to terms with it.

Joke way: Allow your parents to catch you watching gay porn.

Actual suggestion: Start commenting on how you like men subtly if you don't feel comfortable saying it outright. It might be less awkward to allow them to figure it out for themselves.

You've went through all the spectrum, DI. :p

I often consider myself just a sexual being. I think both men and women are gorgeous and I bed them both. ATM I'm just being sexually and emotionally exclusive with my husband but if the opportunity arose, I would enjoy getting involved with a woman. So would he. Sadly, we live in a town where that prospect is out of the question. I'm hoping that when we move to a city or in case we go back to Europe, things will change.

Sexuality can fluctuate, as I have experienced. It wasn't terribly long ago that I came to terms with my bisexuality, having been previously straight with no deviations.

As was I. I remember being attracted to a girl once, when I was twelve.
