"The War" in your nation

Did a war involving your nation occur that was sufficiently significant and recent to be called "the war" in conversation? If one citizen were to say to another something along the lines of: "The building has been here since the war" or "My [relative] [name] died in the war" would the other know which war was being spoken of?

There hasn't been a major conflict in Dystara that wasn't an inter-house war in over sixty years, but Dystarans often use the terms "the reclamation" to refer to the 1909 revolution that brought about modern Dystara and "the war", "the good war" or "the pure war" to refer to the resulting civil war.

On our home planet we had the Marshmallow War, with marshmallow bombs, against the Chocolate People. Its usully called the Great War or the Chocolate War.

Would be a toss up, many say "The War" is the Jiralhanae wars, if you wanted to talk about the Great War, that would be the Human-Covenant War which later became a Covenant Civil War some time near the end.

In Scriftland, there is The Revolution and "The War," more properly called the "War on Peace".

Most often, when someone mentions "the war" they are referring to the War on Peace, during which the government instituted a martial law sort of act to help fight the terrorists who declared war on the newly formed communist state (resultant from the Revolution).

In Tuthina we had the Tuthina Civil war, which happened 120~100 years ago, during the end of the republic era. The war was caused by increasing fiction between different groups within the country, in terms of religion, race, ideology and such. The triggering point was the central government's refusal to intervene a particularly bloody conflict between the conservatives and communists, causing both sides to secede. Failed attempts to suppress armed conflict soon lead to full-blown civil war. It ended with hundreds of millions of casualties, and the establishment of the current "fascist" government.

But considering our history of warlordism and constant minor wars until the establishment of the Voronda Empire in 1455 these two provide the only more modern warfare in our history.

Many people refer to the First World War as "La Guerre" as it greatly affected the nation during that time, although we didn't suffer any physical damage, those young men who eventually returned were scarred for life.

The Elephantine Wars were a series of "ethnic purification" campaigns running from 1922 to 1934 (and again from 1937 to 1945 due to Nazi occupation) that attempted to get rid of the Borsolan pony population by means of either forced relocation or gruesome execution. The campaigns were not well-received, even by human residents; in 1946, the ponies that were deported were allowed to return, and others were compensated.

"The War" always refers to the Orlkjestadi Civil War, which devastated the nation, killed over 4 million people, and gave way to the rise of the current Reformed Republican Union. When referring to any other war, the actual name of the war or the name of the military operation is used.

our "war" is civil reconstruction in the aftermath of the F7 mountain wars, as well as the rebuilding the empire after nuclear weapons tore a big gap in the mainland, increasing the size of the wasteland deserts and such. as for this colony, civil reconstruction ( as said above ) is our war currently going on.

"The War" would probably be taken to mean the ongoing Second Mishhuvurthyar War or the earlier First Mishhuvurthyar War. There are a lot of wars Yamatai has been through, though.

It depends on the area. The largely catholic areas in the West will often refer to the Revolution as "The War", even though it was very small. Otherwise "The War" refers to the Great Northern Wars, all six of them collectively.

"The War" in Volmachtia usually refers either to the Second Great War of the North, a conflict that lasted thirteen years and claimed the lives of 150 million people, two-thirds civilians. Increasingly often, however, the century-long conflict with the Democratic People's Republic of Cinnagar, a Communist state that we refuse to recognize and which we still fight, is still thought of as "The War", since it is by far the most obvious of all conflicts in Volmachtia.

The war, "La Guerra", would usually refer to the glorious revolution which brought the country from fascism and onto the transition to stratocracy as well as proletarianism.

In Osman Rum, "The War" could apply to either the overthrow of the Sultan in 1907, and the esuing Civil War, or overthrow of the Communist Regime in 2004 by Republican forces. It is most usually used to refer to the latter event, and the 1907 war is now generally referred to as "the Revolution".

Among people of the Touman ethnicity, "The War" could also refer to their century long resistance to the enlightened rule of the Osman government (1907-?).

"The War" could be considered to be any one of the civil uprisings, attempted cessions, or rebellions, occurring since 1984 and only recently ending in 2011. Estimates have put the numbers of those who fought in any one of the wars at some point at around 58%, with literally no one person alive unaffected. An estimated two trillion dollars was imparted in infrastructure, leaving tens of millions homeless, and entire cities destroyed.

When people speak of it, they typically refer to specific fronts or cities ("The war was hell in the sixteenth province"). It is generally considered to be the hardest time in Realtan history, and people don't speak of it much.

There has not been any large scale war worth mentioning, as-per-say, so we do not have anything called 'The War' to refer to in Ruskarkad.

However, when we need to refer to a certain point in time in the past, we have something similar.
"The Genocide.", usually though, Genocide has a number before it to dictate which Genocide is meant. The lower the number, the farther back the time it is.
This all comes from the six Genocides of the Human Species that Ruskarkand has performed long ago.

Probably the War of Independence against the Kingdom of Armandia. However, "the Purge" is much more infamous. It stems from the ethnic cleansing of all non-Armandia nationals. It's a taboo subject these days.

No one really says "The War" but two wars do stand out:

1. The Orion Civil War (20 years ago in my nation's timeline) - A resistance of planets rose up against the Empire after a corporation corrupted the Emperor.

2. The Machina War (2018 years ago in my nation's timeline) - Humanity overcame insurgent artificial intelligence resulting in the formation of the Star Empire.
