Season Summary:

Another year comes to a close, and very surprisingly Pays de Croix did not win a single piece of silverware this season. Royalwich took the Community Shield after an exciting match that led to a penalty shootout ending in the Lions' favor. In the Premier League, Bota Guerre came from out of nowhere to demolish the competition after being promoted from League 1 the previous season, earning the right to play in the TakilQuip Champions Cup; PDC finished in second on goal difference and will play in the Globe Cup. And finally, The Saints made it all the way to the FAS Cup final match, before ultimately being defeated by the Warriors of Gilley F.C., who claim their first FAS Cup in 13 seasons.

Tito Moreno on Pays de Croix's lack of trophies this season: "It wasn't that we weren't good enough, because we were. We had the talent on this team to get the treble once again. We just couldn't execute when it was needed the most. Be it the penalty shootout in the Shield, or just the staggering lack of focus down the stretch in both the league and cup competition. I'd have loved to add more accomplishments to my CV, but sadly the entire team is to blame for that."

In lower league news, Montbenoit and Ville-DuPont regained promotion to the Premier League. This is the first time since being relegated in 2021 that the Dragons of Montbenoit are in the top flight, and even longer for the Hawks of Ville-DuPont, who haven't seen top flight action since 2015. Replacing them are Royalwich and Longview, the former being more substantial, since they were recent League, FAS, and Charity Shield winners.

Loadsamoney United and Universal United both were promoted from League 2 and are back in League after a couple of years. Replacing them from League 1 are Elkburgh and South Garland FC, who have been deteriorating in recent years.

Season 8

Saugeais isn't considered "amazing" by any means in the world of sport. "Above average" at best would be more fitting. So it had to have been a complete shock to the hockey community around the world that the Ville-DuPont Foxes won the Hockey Champions League. And not just won it, but dominated the competition, in fact. Outright winning their group by not conceding a single loss in competition and one of the top 5 leaders in goal difference, the Foxes were thrown a knucklepuck by needing a late goal against Othushun State Team from Ko-oren to advance to the quarters. They were under further strife when Hockey Mehsihn from Carmadin defeated them in their first match, leading to a three game series before the Foxes could advance. But after that, it was back to smooth sailing with a commanding aggregate victory over the Scott City Oilers from Darmen, and an equally impressive 4-2 win over similar Darmenian foes, the Brady City Darmenians, for the title.

The parades have long concluded, and it's back to business for the Foxes and the rest of the PHL. Will Ville-DuPont repeat as champion? Will they even make it to the Champions League, and if so, can they be able to re-create their outstanding performance from last season? The puck stops here!

2029: Part 1

Another season, another double winner. Bota Guerre continue the tradition of winning the league after opening the season with a win in the Charity Shield event, forst made popular by the repeated victories from Pays de Croix. But now that PDC has come and gone down tumbling down the table, one can only wonder when it's the Bleu et d'Or's turn. "I believe that's utter nonsense, what the media is reporting," said Bota Guerre manager Stephan Strasbourg in an interview earlier this week. "We've won the league twice in a row these past couple of seasons, and the Charity Shield too. I figure they are all in my case because I haven't taken home the FAS Cup yet, but that's certainly not far off on the horizon."

In transfer news, four new internationals join the SFA ranks:

First, Pazhujebu Jhepi'vedhessi Chellappan from their domestic team of Therakham comes in to fill the role of attacking midfielder at Bugny FC, a role previously held by retiring fan favorite Daiki Ryota. Chellappan has long been accused of under-performing for his national team while typically excelling for his club team. His greatest talent is without doubt short passing, which is good for Bears fans as their fears of Casimir Archambault not receiving timely assists may soon be squelched. The amount of goals should most likely be on the rise for this squad now that Chellappan has arrived.
Next up, is a returning face to Saugeais as native son and national team goalkeeper Karsten Garver returns from his time spent in United Gordonopia. Garver had spent the last 4 seasons at Latimere United, mostly as a backup keeper, but did see some playing time during non-threatening cup and league matches. But judging from his lack of appearances and high goals allowed rate, it's no surprise that he was let go, and a big wonder as to why he's still on the national team. Hopefully, he'll turn his fortunes around with League 1 side Longview, where the expectations aren't all that high to begin with.
Third on the docket is another new nation added to the bunch, as goalkeeper Portia Thrift from New Sideburn enters the fray. New Sideburn haven't been establish for very long, but already they are making big splashes in both the national team and UICA scene. Portia has also been one of the main reasons New Sideburn are 4th in their World Cup group, as her agility and reflexes led to giving up just 6 goals in 9 games so far. Portia feels she’s reached the edge of what playing on Crisisbless in her national league can give her, and is looking to strut her stuff abroad.
And finally, another New Sideburn player decided to follow Portia into the Saugeain Football League. Barry Kearney from Raven River is certainly one of the best toted foreign strikers to ever grace this league, after Tito Moreno from Western Cuba years before. A real all-rounder as a striker who never tires, Barry can run circles around his opponents, leading to some spectacular goals, and that was only in New Sideburn. The only problem he could have, though, is having to share time on the pitch with Brantolano star Aureliano Sebastiani, a known ball hog at both the domestic and national team levels. If Barry can replicate those feats while at Royalwich, alongside Aureliano's grubbnig personality, look out Premier League!

2029: Part 3

After the first quarter of the season, Bota Guerre were seemingly left for dead near the bottom of the standings. But finishing up the halfway point, the Bleu et Or rattled off 9 wins over the next 10 matches. Manager Stephan Strasbourg had nothing but superlatives for his team, playing up their explosive offense while managing to bolster the team's confidence on the defensive side. "The team has only given up 7 goals during these last 10 matches, while our offensive output has been nothing but stellar. We can keep this run of form going, I'm sure of it."

Alternately, Pays de Croix have been going in the opposite direction. After starting out the season relatively strong and in second place, the Saints have struggled to find wins, only gathering five points in their next 10 matches. Now sitting near the relegation zone, their seems to be no signs of stopping the bleeding, as Western Cuban national Tito Moreno has picked up a broken arm, knocking him out for the next 6 weeks and giving the PDC fans little to cheer for. "It's the harsh reality of this game," he said. "I just hope the rest of the team can pick up the slack while I'm gone."

Season recap:

Bugny FC capitalized on some stellar early season form and only relented to Bota Guerre near the middle of the season, having a small feud with Bloomington in the FAS Cup at the same time. The Bears captured their record 6th FAS top flight championship, having won it decisively over the two time reigning champs, Bota Guerre, who came in second place 13 points back. The striking tandem of Casimir Archambault and Fred Béringer was complimented extremely well by the preseason acquisition, Jhepi'vedhessi Chellappan from the Pazhujeb Islands, and as such all three players are expected to win an award of some sort at the end of the season banquet.

While the Bears are celebrating their league exploits, they weren't too happy about their turnout in the FAS Cup. They were expelled after their first and only matchup int he third round, a bitter 2-0 aggregate loss to Bloomington. The Cup, however, was taken by Riverside this year, as they themselves claim it a record 4th time, and their first FAS Cup title since 2021. Their season wasn't much to right home about, flirting in the relegation group most of the time, but the team came together when it counted in the cup. Portia Thrift, while tied for 4th in goals allowed in the league, performed her best during their away legs, shutting up the opposing crowd as she record a shut out in all four of those matches, including the Cup final.

Les Alliés and Ville-DuPont only sniff the ranks of League 1 for one season, as both teams garnered promotion, snatching the rise away from hotly a favored Metalton squad. Misery on the end of Pays de Croix, as it seems their reign of dominance has ended with their recent relegation to League 1. Half of the team is up for sale, and superstar Tito Moreno from Western Cuba has already left the squad, as his contract has expired. It really is a sad state of affairs for the Saints: a team so powerful and awe-inspiring just a few short years ago, now left to wallow in their despair as they pack up to travel to the smaller venues around the country.

The Saint Croix Padres stun the entire nation! The recently renamed team that never achieved a position higher than 4th place in their division not only beat out Longview, who surged late beat ultimately failed to overtake them, but defeated the heavily favored perennial BCCC entry Westbay Blue Wave in 7 games to secure their first ever SBO title. While Westbay are still going back to the BCCC, they will certainly have the stench of defeat on their hands from the upstarts.

The 2030 Season

With the collapse of Pays de Croix, the departures from the club were numerous, with 7 of the main roster transfering to go play overseas, as well as manager Colby Garnet being shown the door. A relative newcomer, Davin Lawson, will take the reins as he will try to right the once proud ship the Saints were sailing on. "Premier League or bust," Lawson said. I want to get this team back to the promised land of the Premier League, and with all this youthful talent and Tito Moreno to guide them, I think we can get there in the next couple of years."

Meanwhile, preseason festivities for this the 20th Premier League season had already commenced, with intrasquad friendlies being scheduled, and the annual Charity Shield up for grabs as well to signal the unofficial opening of the new season. The Bugny Bears are riding high after their dominant league title last season and look to continue adding to their already large trophy case. Riverside had a mediocre finish to their season last year, finishing near the dangerous relegation zone, but won when it counted in the FAS Cup, securing their record 4th Cup and earning them a spot in the Cygnus Cup and Charity Shield (the former had a Dolphins team give an unimpressive showing).

As for teams to watch for, don't sleep on Bloomington being a one hit wonder. These boys have the experience and the speed to stay in the top three once again this year, shoving all suspicions of a sophomore slump to the side. Gilley F.C. should be in the Champions bracket in the end of the season to for much of the same reasons. One team that will be headed for the drop, however, will be Ville-DuPont. The Hawks did nothing to bolster their lineups this offseason, and are still relying on the underwhelming Mytannion imports of Kerim Khadzhiyez and Mikhail Tarkhanov to head up their offense. Don't expect a lot of goals.
