The Greater Malveira International Airport (GMIA) is not Gulnera's first international airport. That honour belongs to the Chavezi International Airport, opened during the 1930s (Gulnerian calendar), located in Almatiiea on the country's western seaboard, the city that was the country's capital at the time. The GMIA was, until the late 1990s, known as the Wensingdon Civil Airfield, which was established in the early 1900s as a private airfield for civilian use by the Aircraft Association of Gulnera. It was mainly used by aircraft enthusiasts and for testing airplane prototypes, and remained a relatively small airport throughout its long life. It was granted Private International Airport status during the Galmecki administration of the the 1950s, and thus handled small private jets and small freight aircraft, and occasionally aircraft rerouted from the Chavezi during peak seasons.
At the inauguration of President Blazenihck in 2013, Wensingdon recieved a great deal of attention by the newly-appointed Gulnera Aviation Authority as a potential site for the nation's new air hub and major international airport. This became a matter of certainty when the current administration decided to shift the nation's capital to the city of Greater Malveira in 2014, and work began on Wensingdon by hundreds of construction companies. Under the radical new economic program of the government, several other airfields spread across the country were also subject to massive refurbishment and expansion projects.
Central Departures Bulding
Now in 2017, work on the Wensingdon has finally come to an end. The GAA has renamed it the Greater Malveira International Airport, and as a result of the giant shift in the country's general airline industry and infrastructure, seeks to invite airlines from across the globe to make the GMIA a stop on their flight routes. With the rapid increase in the country's tourist arrivals and its booming economy, many carriers have been in constant contact with both the GAA and the Department of Transport in order to be granted landing rights and terminal privileges once the airport reaches operational capabilities. We are pleased to announce that this is that time.
The GMIA is now fully equipped with two runways running in a North-South direction, both with lengths in excess of 4000m. The airport currently has four passenger-only terminals (PT 1, PT 2, PT3 and PT4), and two cargo-only terminals (C01 and C02); the passenger terminals all facilitate airbridges. PT1 contains 18 gates, and PT2, PT3 and PT4 have 12 gates each. Of these gates, Air Gulnera has permanently reserved gates 1 through 8 in PT1, and gates 1through 3 in PT2 and PT3. Skylark Airlines has permanently reserved gates 9 and 10 of PT1, and gate 4 and 5 of PT2 and PT3. All other gates are available for use by foreign airlines.
Transport to and from the GMIA can now be accomplished with ease, with the country's second-largest high-speed metro system operating under the airport terminals. In addition, several bus routes make the GMIA a stop on their way through Greater Malveira, and service the routes between the ariport and the hotels in the vicinity. A large number of taxi agencies also operate from the airport. Inter-terminal transport is free, and is provided by the GMIA's own 'Terminal-Hop' rail system.
Security within the GMIA (and all international airports in Gulnera) are particularly strict. The government of Gulnera and the GAA is committed to ensuring the safety of passengers and airplanes alike, and thus use such precautions such as full-body scanners, surveillance cameras, porcelain-detecting x-ray machines, spot checks of suspicious individuals, and bomb sniffer dogs. Airport security is maintained by the GAA's Security Service, the Gulnerian Air Force Marines, and the Greater Malveira Police Department jointly. In addition, the GAA encourages the use of air marshals on airlines operating flights into GMIA, and actively use them for security on board Air Gulnera flights.
It is thus with great pleasure that the Gulnera Aviation Authority invites airlines from around the world to make the GMIA a destination in their routes. All airlines interested in establishing links with us are kindly requested to peruse the details set out below and complete the appropriate application forms provided.
