Royal Guard of Adriatine
Introduction
The Royal Guard is the organization responsible for law and order in Adriatine. Originally chartered by order of King Philippe II, the Royal Guard answers directly to the monarch and is also responsible for close protection of the Royal Family. The Royal Guard currently numbers around 596,000 men, or 1 Guard for every 500 citizens. Guards patrol mainly on foot or are posted to sentry boxes around cities, although horse and even bicycle patrols are becoming increasingly common.
Uniform
The Royal Guard uniform consists of a dark green tunic with a high collar and white shoulder boards. The collar functions to protect the wearer's neck and throat: curved metal plates sewn between the fabric layers of the collar to ensure that it stands stiffly upright, but also provide good protection from knife or garotte attacks. A red and white "parade" belt is standard issue, to increase visibility in public places. A large white beret with the Royal Guard patch and white gloves are worn when out of doors. Stab vests are issued to all Guards and are required to be worn under the tunic while on duty.
Training
Recruit training for the Royal Guard takes place at Victoriana Barracks in the Alsace Prefecture. The six-month course teaches recruits Adriatine law, physical conditioning, self-defense, and use of firearms. Guard recruits are transferred to a duty post at the end of their training to undergo a year-long probationary period on the streets of Adriatine.
Armament
The main armament of the Royal Guard is the SIG P210, a 9mm semi-automatic service pistol with an 8-round magazine. Guards carry their weapon in a cross-draw holster with a spare magazine.
Guards posted to sentry boxes and at the gates of major landmarks may also be seen with the Remington Model 8, a .35 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a 5-round magazine.
