Seeing as the Silly/Illegal proposals thread is at 473 pages, I thought I'd bring this up. Do we still need this thread?

I'd like to see it kept, as it can be a good teaching tool on the rules. But that's just me.

TET gets replaced at 500. There's no reason to stop S&I, because it's a learning and quasi-moderation tool. It's not a chat thread. It doesn't need regular archiving for posterity. I don't see any reason it can't keep chugging on, personally.

All it does it serve to boost the ego's of certain people. Does anyone that posts in that thread actually telegram authors and point out the mistake to them? We all know that the boiler plate that the mods send when they yank a proposal sure as the hell doesn't, so no it is not a learning tool. It is nothing more than a point and laugh festival, that greatly contributes to the never ending hostility of this particular forum.

I find it useful. I'd rather you guys identify the problems so I can clean out proposals quicker. It's considerably easier than Getting Help requests.

By pointing and laughing at new authors? I suppose if it was stickied where it was in plain sight right at the top of the forum, it may make a difference, but even then, most new authors don't bother to read those threads either, so how exactly are the learning? Like I said, point and laugh festival. It really is refreshing to learn that all it takes is an online game to reduce grown adults to kindergartners.

No. It's because the mods have tons of other stuff to do, and it's not like they don't have lives on top of that (yes, shocking, I know), so us giving them a helping hand by pointing out the illegalities to make their work here a bit easier is, I'm sure, appreciated by both sides.

That thread lets us ease their workload and in doing that, show how much we appreciate their help in keeping this game playable. Keep the thread and remake it when it hits 500.

The very reason those proposals are posted there is that they don't have a thread of their own, so it's unlikely the people who submit them, know/care enough to look at Silly/Illegal. And if they do, well, they'll see why it was illegal!

^This. I have sometimes TG'd newbie proposalists with directions on what to do rather than jump right into proposal writing, and Silly/Illegal is one of the threads I suggest checking out.

Actually, all threads get locked at 500 pages- if they get too big, they start causing problems on the back-end and slow down the site.

Seriously it's easier to have all this stuff in one place where people can go and see what's wrong with proposals that aren't drafted in the forum first. And if we have a laugh over it once in awhile, so what, none of those authors come here anyway. What's worse is when a newbie posts a draft in the forum here and some people are quick to trash it, especially just to spout their in character rhetoric.

Lighten up Francis. Besides kindergarteners are usually more fun to play with than curmudgeons and other fuddy duddy stuffy types.

I used to, with helpful suggestions and critique, but gave that up after one too many "I know the rules its not illegal I'm just trying to make the world a better place and you're being mean so mind your own business!!!!LOL" replies, if they replied at all that is. So, putting it in S&I accompanied by amusing means of pointing out the illegalities seems to be the best option available.

I still do, if I feel the player will be receptive. A better solution would be to simply ban nations from making proposals until the capital city age. Wouldn't completely elimintate the issue but would reduce it.

Impressive that you waited so long. I did that once. That single occasion drained me of any desire to help these kids. Let 'em get booted.

I would agree to that (Even if that means I would cut myself out, I don't care), maybe then people would start looking around first before trying to do some of that stuff mentioned. Then the S&I thread would have A. Never have gotten as big and B. Optimistically it probably would have never have been needed.

Makes using puppets to submit totally impractical, which is an issue for some raider-types. And as nice as it would be for new players to have to wait, it isn't especially fair.

I'm pretty sure most Raiders have a puppet at least a hundred days old. Most raiders I've seen have dozens of puppets they keep alive.
