"Its pretty standard procedure when building road to put sufficient support beneath a road before paving it. Compactors hit the area like crazy before the asphalt even gets there. There's really no reason to expect a solar panel road not to sit on that sort of foundation."

"Now, its obviously up to the individual nation to make this decision, but this sort of setup is not without merits. For those nations that want to make the move, and who have a geographical predisposition to support such measures, this is a really great idea. Squashing it would only hurt them. The better approach is to ignore it entirely, but that doesn't mean the general discussion isn't beneficial for those active delegations."

Properly applied in specific areas after installation and manufacturing costs are severely reigned in, solar roadways are a great idea!

"You do realize there are nations that have much more leeway for funding for alternative energy projects, right? And different priorities for technical funding? Banning them would be just as stupid as requiring them. Just because they don't benefit your nation doesn't mean they don't benefit others. You feel free to ban them in the Novaskian Empire. "Banning them is a stretch. Some nations - those of sufficient technology to implement them - could find them logical to use, particularly in small towns and city areas. "

Perhaps, but that is not sufficient reason to mandate them across the board in a one size fits all scheme.

Which would imply that it is ... not an issue worth international mandates! That is: not something which the WA needs to care about.

Bear in mind that this will be expensive to maintain. Electrical bills,structural support. Just the cost of building this is a gamble of money.

Stop right there. I have never recommended this as a WA resolution. I can give a plethora of reasons why this is a horrid WA resolution. But it is clearly a near future tech option for many nations. Most nations generally work on far more fantastic future tech than this. Yes I'm sure if NS existed a few centuries ago some people would be crapping on Jules Verne as well. I have only argued that the technology is not fully developed yet but still is a valid potential technology. (A moot point since the WA needs to deal with present, future and past tech nations.)
