Mangolana News
Mangolana WIF/SC II wins in opener

Mangolana soccer is currently obsessed with the World cup qualifications, but their is also another tournament going on that the people of Mangolana should know about, and that is the WIF/SC II tournament. Mangolana due to it's international team busy with qualifing, sent it's U-21 team to this tournament in hope of seeing if their is any unknown talent on their team. Mangolana got more than that though from it's newly formed U-21 team as they defeated Fellow Citizens 2-0 in the tournament opener. Mangolana started off early in the game, for at the 19th Min, Midfielder Tappy Shogun, headed a cross from Lent Donovan into the top right corner of the net past Fellow citizens goalkeeper Arlie Herschel Bernard. As the game wound on after that penaltys were called but surprisingly, no cards were shown, the offense was non existent after Mangolana's first goal for both teams until the 82nd Min when Mangolana Striker Colton Howard got a through ball from Kellen Roberts, and smashed it off the left post and into the net to give Mangolana a 2-0 lead and the final score of the game. This game though could have been closer in part due to Fellow citizens great defense for most of the game, but just could not get a counter attack started, and fineshed with no shots. Mangolana though had 8 shots. Mangolana also showed great defense by not letting Fellow citizens get a shot. Mangolana has many jewels on this team, and if they can keep up the defense throughout the whole tournament, Mangolana has a great shot at winning the whole thing. Mangolana will be a team to be reckoned with during this tournament and future tournaments as well.

Match Day 2 Preview: Mangolana Vs North Chicanan

Mangolana will play North Chicanan who is coming off a 3-1 loss at the hands of Eastfield Lodge. Mangolana should have an advantage in this game being the more athletic team in my opinion. Mangolana is coming off a 2-0 win over Fellow citizens. In that game Mangolana used their passing, speed, and dominating defense to win. If Mangolana Can keep up their defense and continue to create opening for oppertunitys to score, Mangolana should win this game. Are Prediction, Mangolana wins 2-1.

North Chicanan Rabbler
Why yes, we've returned

Hoops blown out!
Return ends rather horribly, we must say.

by Aston Long. Laide, South Warkus
North Chicanan celebrated it's unofficial return to NS competition in the Warkus International Football/Soccer Cup. And while the country vanished off the map during World Cup qualifying many a moon ago, we can already see it's gonna be a bit of a learning curve for the under-21s.

Rather than starting on a winning foot, the Crimson Hoops got to be sacrificed to whatever deity you pray to in a 3-1 implosion against Eastfield Lodge. No, we don't know where that is per se, but we do know they had our number from the word go.

Coach Micah Kill, coming off a successful run at Sussex County, can't be thrilled with his chances staying on as National Side and u-21 coach after being outplayed and out-maneuvered by a side using a diamond formation. "Well, apparently the rust from playing abroad caught up with the boys," Kill said to the small press gathering after the match. "I'd love to say the current season just wore the boys down, but blaming the NCFA for maintaining a 43-game season for top flight footy does nothing. I didn't get the players in the right mindset for play today and it clearly showed."

Clearly is an understatement. Rather than start in some smashmouth fashion or in anything resembling a interesting start, the Hoops played in an overly defensive format and while keeping the score 1-0 for a half is nice, the two quick scores in seven minutes at the start of the second did nothing to help the youngsters.

"I'm thrilled with the play of [Yankee] DeMit," Kill said in regards to the abrupt switch of keepers in the 55th minute. Unlike starter Aiden Longfellow, considered by many the savior of Sussex County's title hopes this year even as an 18-year old, DeMit was able to keep the ball out of the net for the rest of the match before the Hoops got a token goal back in extra time by Paul Owen.

But at that point the fingers were already being pointed and with Mangolana already declaring victory in tomorrow's match, you'd be surprised to see anyone in the Norther press disagree with the possibilities.

"It's always gonna be a learnin' process" assistant Jorden Paige said, "but we're using this to prep for the next Baptism of Fire and qualifying for World Cup 55. One loss won't be the end of the world." Apparently Paige wasn't born when the old CFA planned on pulling the national team from all competition after the Disaster at Governess Palace (a shock home loss to new nation Kelse) so we can forgive him for optimism.

Kill hasn't reported any plans to shuffle the line-up, but expectations are for DeMit to start in goal.

Warkus Footy Times
Strong Opening
The new Warkus Under-21 team has set good impressions for fans today as they played their first match against -Australia. Despite many new faces in the team the lads dominated the field, scoring four goals and conceding none. Damien Rasquez scored the opening goal in the 5th minute, only two minutes later follow by a goal by Harry Millar. -Australia managed to concede any more goals for the first half. In the 54th minute a penalty saw Damien Rasquez to another goal. Rasquez got his hattrick in the 70th minute, easily sliding past the -Australian defenders. With the bell gone and the match finished the score was 4-0.

Coach Jack Riu is very pleased with results. "This will increase moral with the lads. We've also set up a scary impression for the other teams which might scare the skill out of them." This is Jack's second time coaching the under-21 team, the first time was during the Simeone Di Bradini Cup.

We'll be back with news on the next match which will be against Civil Citizenry.

That's what Royce Philip Rodgers (age 21) said after the match "Great defense, but bad finishing. Next day, we should play solidly" said after match with Mangolana. "For the next match against Eastfield Lodge, we should play hardly and win." Royce Philip Rogers replied.

Why yes, we've returned

Update: Switching Keepers
Seawolves...Hoops...whatever, they go with DeMit

by Aston Long. Laide, South Warkus

As expected, national u-21 coach Micah Kill will flip keepers for tonight's match against Mangolana. 20-year old Yankee DeMit, from Pietrsberg FC, will take the net from the opening kickoff from original starter Aiden Lonfellow. The Sussex County keeper will be benched for the first time since starting his career two years ago, and is sure to hurt the pride of the young'n who's helped lead the Stallions to back-to-back National Premiers.

Kill is also caution about middle defender Wesley Tomasin starting tonight due to a slight strain in his right ankle. The Victoria player is expected to be a game-time call with Evan Lionskin the favorite to move into the lineup.

News about the probably slaughterhouse later tonight.

MATCHDAY 2
Warkus 2-2 Civil Citizenry
-Australia 1-0 Sarrbia
North Chicanan 0-2 Mangolana
Eastfield Lodge 3-1 Fellow Citizens

Group A Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts

2 Sarrbia 2 1 0 1 1 1 +0 3

3 North Chicanan 2 0 0 2 1 5 -4 0
4 Fellow Citizens 2 0 0 2 1 5 -4 0

Mangolana and Eastfield Lodge are the first teams to progress to the semi-finals. Civil Citizenry need Warkus and Sarrbia to draw their match, they need to win their match AND finish off with a better score aggregate than Sarrbia. While North Chicanan and Fellow Citizens are eliminated (But will still be playing their final match!) due to Mangolana and Eastfield Lodge's double win.

Why yes, we've returned

Second Keeper, Same As The First
Kill tenders resignation after 2-0 not-surprise loss

by Aston Long. Laide, South Warkus

The national team and the u21 side will be looking for a new coach after leaving South Warkus, as Micah Kill announced his resignation upon North Chicanan's expected 2-0 loss to Mangolana, citing the lack of support from the NCFA.

"If I felt the Governing Council would accept we just got into this, I'd stay," Kill said at his hastily-thrown together conference, "but we know North Chicanan expects to get back on the global stage immediately and has high expectations. And clearly we did not meet them." Kill and NCFA spokesperson James DeLonge confirmed he would stay on for the final match against Fellow Citizens, which should with how poor the squad has played result in yet another two-goal loss. "I feel I've let the boys and the nation down with how poor we've played. And clearly we cannot move forward towards the next World Cup without new leadership," Kill said while flanked by several players and his assistants. However, rumor has it recently-relaged South Holland might be eying him for new coach, thus making his resignation more suspect.

"No idea" was the most you could get from the team after their lackluster play in the match, only getting off four shots with none approaching target. Some blame could be placed on Wesley Tomasin being pulled before the match after discovery of his strain being a slight fracture in his right leg. But it doesn't explain the poor defensive effort by the squad, which looked at the half all set to head back to St. John's rather than suiting up for another 45 minutes. Instead the defense collapsed, giving up a goal in each half against a foe that knew they could clinch qualification with a win, and who's press had already predicted a victory. Could such statements deflated the young players? Probably, but we're a gossipy sports newspaper so we'll hope not.

Kill will announce his final squad list later against fellow bottom-side Fellow Citizens. Let's hope he gets more original in his side.

North Chicanan Rabbler
Why yes, we've returned

Uh, really?
National eye-roll to a 4-2 loss.

by Aston Long. Cardin, West Warkus

Oh, this will be fun. We can taste it here at the Rabbler.

The NCFA has a very similar structure to the old CFA in the olden days. And they pulled no punches with threats to the national side when they underacheived. So there's no telling what the SeaHoops (that's what we're going with, damn it!) are gonna be dealing with after crashing out of the WIF/SC on a 4-2 loss to fellow bottom-straggler Fellow Citizens at King George 1 Stadium today. We'd cover details, but lets be honest, the nation saw the embarrassment live tonight and we shouldn't relive the stupidity that now-South Holland manager Micah Kill put on the field.

Speaking of which, apparently the rumor-mill has it SH had been in touch with Kill before the tourney start. So let the rumors commence he rigged the team to fail so he could get out of a national contract. We'd not believe it but if you saw tonight's match, it would make logical sense.

So where does the North Chicanans go from here? Obviously there's not a major need to panic, since it was the u-21s debut on the national stage (and lets all be glad they aren't in the u21 Championships being held concurrently). The national structure should be fine once they split the National Coach and the u21 coach slots up. And the NCFA takes a deep breath and doesn't panic when we go 0-0-3 in the Baptism of Fire and 0-0-whatever in the first edition of World Cup qualifying for our grand return.

Cuz we've seen worse.

And then we saw tonight, which was far worse than that. Eep!

(OOC: I'm assuming my team did horrendous for it's got like a 0.000 rating in the overall listing of nations, what with the whole being "new" thing)
