Since I never received a response from Rakhu, Sir Laarn, Atanatos Naval or Ceneisis Naval:

Army Academy (FFR) accepts the invite for the Pioneer Bowl and will face Holy Redeemer College (BWG).

Updated Rankings

If anyone wishes to propose changes to the procedures for future seasons, please do so and I'll put the proposals up to a vote.

Season 11 will likely start shortly after the conclusion of the next World Bowl.

It's about time RCU won one!
Would have been harsh if I'd got a third title after barely RPing and whatnot.

Updated my stats sheet btw, some factoids:

  • Utica now have the record outright for most championship games played, with four.
  • Ramusok Capital's win is the second largest margin of victory in an NSCF championship game.
  • Ramusok Capital are the first team to win the NSCF Championship in their own nation.
  • The "curse of the runner-up" is alive and well, claiming another scalp in Port Salem this season.

Add to that the curse of the champion, ten seasons and still no repeats.

Speaking of the next season, the plan right now is to open signups for the next season around MD1 of the next World Bowl at the latest, with the season starting following the conclusion of the World Bowl. I am looking for conference scorinators for next season and would prefer to have them in place before the start of the season. If interested, please say so in this thread.

I have an idea for the awards though...you should name them after the first winner of that award. So the Outstanding Player award would be the [Insert name of first player on list here] Award.

This was discussed ages ago (on the first page of this thread, in fact) and it was decided we'd wait until there was an IC reason to name the awards. Not sure we've ever come to a consensus on that since. See what the commish says.

Could some one explain the basis of the college system to a non-American? I understand the game itself, just not the ins and outs of the structure.

Is it a requirement that my players attend the university the team comes from?

Yes. Though if you just wanted to send all your best young players, you could ICly come up with a way around that, I'm sure.

Not sure what you mean by the ins and outs of the structure, but the wiki page on college football might help a bit with that. If not, I'm sure we can figure it out here.

I have a Procedural change to propose, specifically that the following be added to the scheduling procedures:

Conference championship games do not count toward the limit for mandatory regular season games.

The reasoning behind this is to permit the use of an 8-team conference format, with championship games, as an alternative to the current 6-team conference format. Under this format, each conference would be split into divisions, with teams playing their division opponents twice and teams in the other division of their conference once. At the end of the season, the teams with the best conference record in each division would meet for the conference championship.

I'd also like to codify the procedure used, prior to NSCF 10, to allow the Quebecois schools to change conferences and will likely place that proposal up for a vote at the same time.

Teams play a more basic defense and a simple (but sometimes creative/unusual) offense, so it's easier for kids to learn quickly and they don't knock each other's heads off. They schedule about 8-12 games based on the conference they're in and the chance to either earn money (by inviting better-funded teams to come beat up on your team) or social capital (by beating up on other teams on national TV, etc). Conferences are like soccer leagues in the sense of being ranked and given more or less juicy postseason placements (bowl games, rather than playoffs or champions' leagues) based on their recent history. However, you can schedule games with teams outside of your conference and it will count for your final standings; pretty much everyone does this, because the rest of their schedule is usually determined by the conference's rules. Some conferences are big and have geographical divisions with playoff systems; some are small and have a simple round robin and a championship game for the top two teams to settle who has a better claim to be invited to good bowl games.

The system for determining who gets to play the top bowl games and the national championship is an arcane algorithm. Other than the championship/playoff system internal to each conference, the official postseason is one bowl game if you get invited to one or qualify per the game's rules. For example, some bowl games automatically enroll the #3 team from one conference and the #4 team from another; this is the result of complex negotiations as well as business decisions.

There have been calls for a playoff system to replace this, but the only proposals for it that wouldn't fatigue the kids to death would make the top teams' power even more self-perpetuating. Students are encouraged to play hard to generate a lot of funds for the team and maybe the school, although only a handful of teams break even. In theory, players can't receive endorsements, money or gifts related to their performance or commitments in the game until they graduate or use up their allotted playing years, except for official scholarships, but some top players take cash and fancy cars and such under the table, historically.

I'm not sure whether you meant you're totally caught up on the on-field rules differences between NCAA/FBS and NFL football..? AIUI, there are a number of differences but some of the most notable are (IIRC): the clock stops after every play in the last moments of the half; a receiver is in-bounds if he has one foot in-bounds; and overtime is more like a shootout than an extra quarter.

I think that pretty much catches you up on college football. College soccer is of course different in every conceivable way ;)

There are 2 announcements that need to be made:

Firstly, we still need conference scorinators for the upcoming 11th season. If interested, please state your interest in this thread.

Second, we have 2 procedural changes that need to be put to vote. The NSCF Committee currently consists of the following:

Chiata
Cosumar
Estenia
Jeckland
Osarius
Royal Kingdom of Quebec
Saintland/Holy Republican Empire
San Jose Guayabal
West Guiana

The first proposal is for the following to be added to the bottom of the scheduling section of the procedures, as a new bullet point:

Conference championship games do not count toward the limit for mandatory regular season games.

The effect of this change would be to permit the use of 8-team conferences with 2 divisions and a conference championship game at the end of the season. This leaves the choice to use the 6-team or 8-team conference format to the discretion of the commissioner.

The second proposal is for the following to be placed into the proper format and added to the Conferences and Schedules portion of the procedures:

Requests for a change of conference may be made prior to the finalization of the conferences for a season. Whether the request will be granted will be at the discretion of the Commissioner (to prevent abuse). Objections from other returning schools from the same conference will be taken into consideration by the Commissioner. Change of conference requests will not be granted for schools from the same nation in 2 consecutive seasons. Schools that request a change of conference and are granted that request will be assigned a new conference at random. Where possible, schools from the same nation will remain in the same conference.

This is the procedure that the current commissioner used to grant the Quebecois schools a change of conference prior to Season 10.

Your options are as follows:

Conference Championship Game amendment

For
Against
Abstain

Change of Conference amendment

For
Against
Abstain

NSCF Committee members (listed above) should send their votes to the NSCF nation. Votes sent to any other nation or votes sent by non-committee members will not be counted. The deadline for voting will be February 19th at 7 PM Eastern Time (in North America), which is equivalent to midnight UTC on February 20th.
