Xkoranate is the scorinator that has been used for ever Winter and Summer Olympics in recent years. Its designed to produce appropriate scores for every Olympic event. If you're going to be hosting an Olympics though, I really hope you know what you're getting yourself into...

Apart from Xkorinate, does anyone know a scorinator where cycling results can be produced?

Thanks

With athletics (Track & Field, etc.), does xkorinate take weather conditions into account? For example, wind speed, whether the event is held indoor or outdoors, track surface, etc.?

No. If I remember correctly, the results are based on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games (though CH might want to correct me if this is wrong).

I'd be interested to see what it takes into account and how it determines results. I know very little of writing programs but I know quite a lot about the pole vault, if anyone were interested in creating something a bit more in depth. I can obtain data on the physics of it, as well.

Though admittedly it would be a lot of effort for something not many people will use by itself or on its own. But for someone like me who hasn't got the time to run a larger competition, a small event like a two stage meet (prelims & finals) would be great retry neat.

There should be a "fan in the stands" bonus where other nations can "endorse" you, thus sending some fans in the stands to boost offense (if positive modifier) or defense (if negative modifier). That way, regions and other nations can still get involved even if they didn't make the deadline/gets eliminated. Just an idea, though. Not sure how it would actually play out. This could take into account the stadium capacity as a cap, and whatnot. But that would make it even more complex :/

While I think Liventia said it best, I'll try and explain exactly why this is a terrible idea. Firstly, fans are already featured in the scorinator, in the form of home ground advantage. Secondly, the point of Sports RP is to Roleplay. Advancement in tournaments often (but not always) comes as a result of said roleplay, in the form of Roleplay Bonus. There are three things that define skill: Roleplay, Rank, and Randomness. Adding another dimension is completely stupid and unnecessary. Having non-participants in a thread and trying to track endorsements is also going to add a logistical nightmare for the hosts.

Stadium size is IC. IC does not feature in scorination. Why not? Because we'll have things appearing like "Noobistan stadium has a capacity of 500,000...", while more realistic players will use smaller numbers that reflect their nation. For example, my college American Football team plays in 20,000 stadiums away, but only 1,000 seater at home, reflecting the IC interest of the sport in the country.

But the BIG reason this is a bad idea is that style mod has NOTHING to do with success or failure. So no, you're not boosting anything, and in fact would be editing my right as a player to choose a style modifier that suits my RP decisions. A positive style mod merely increases your chance of scoring a lot of goals and of conceding goals, while a negative modifier decreases the same chances.

Just try to jump on signup threads for sports you think are interesting. The biggest on here are the soccer World Cup, american football World Bowl, baseball WBC, basketball IBC and the various rugbies' RUWC, RLWC and 7s. There's enough going on in between as well. Join a tournament, don't be disappointed with a lot of initial losses because that's how things, well, basically work around here. RPing and enthousiasm generally improve the results pretty quickly.

Sure, it might look like things are slow around here, with the World Cup rolling around maybe 3-4 times a year, but with every tournament taking a month to complete (especially if you're still in late in the tournament), it's pretty hard to keep going as an RP'er for so long, let alone the hosts who have to be present at the same time each night for up to a month. I guess the only cure is to join different sports so there's always something going on.

Everybody here has been a noob, so don't let that turn you away. As Barunia said: we don't bite hard, but it might seem that way sometimes. In the way things are run around here, it's hard to change, but just hop on for the ride and once you get a feeling for how (and especially why) things go like they are, feel free to join the discussions.

EDIT/PS: if you want to get the hang of RPing sports or how the scorinator works: your best bet is to create a domestic sports newswire to post results from your own national leagues. That way you can experiment a bit and see what works.

Couple of thoughts for some of the new players (Seriously, it's always good to see new people want to get started here):

1. Xkoranate might seem intimidating at first, but after learning it it's easy to see why so many of us use it on a continued basis. One of those reasons is the high number of different sports and events it can do, and if anyone gets really stuck there is a separate xkoranate help thread that also includes step-by-step instructions (to a beginning user, 0.3.2 worked practically the same as 0.3.3).

2. One can roleplay reasonable details about whose fans support what teams (with previous permission AND opponent roleplay permissions to RP other events). That doesn't mean it needs to be in the scorinator.

According to Wikipedia, Chrome OS supports "apps" written in HTML/Javascript/CSS and Android apps. If that's accurate, then the only way to get xkoranate to run on Chrome OS would either be to port it to Android or to rewrite it as a web page.

Hi all. I don't know how much demand there is for this, but I've updated my baseball-ties xkoranate file so it now works much more accurately. In the previous file, the lower ranked teams seemingly never beat the higher ranked teams with way too many shutouts, particularly for the lower ranked teams.

The updated file addresses this, whilst maintaining rankings and the randomness of baseball. I use ties in my domestic baseball leagues which you can view here. This also prevents those silly cases in the standard baseball files where teams would score more runs than needed in the bottom of the ninth.

Code
If you want the code you can view it below (it's based off of the nsfs-gridiron paradigm):

Stats
I went off of the 2013 MLB season for statistics. The average combined runs per game that year was 8.33 (as you can see here), on my first "quick sim" of my top domestic league in the Koana Islands (which you can view below) which consists of 1,900 games, I had a combined runs per game of exactly 8.33! The second quick sim fell slightly short at 8.28 R/g.

I also used this page here to better reflect the numbers of runs scored per inning, although this isn't 100% accurate to real life. For instance, in the MLB 32.5% of innings resulted in exactly 1 run scored which seems considerably higher than my file produces but I'm not overly fussed as the runs per game seems very accurate.

Quick Sim
I used my current top domestic league (where three teams get relegated to the division below) for my quick sim. The teams are listed below and are ranked from best to worst by skill:
Team Country Skill
Omfattandestad Titans Koana Islands 9.568
Ny Aucklanda Warlocks Koana Islands 9.116
Erana Kullar Wolves Koana Islands 8.926
Dyce Whalers Koana Islands 8.695
Elon Dragons Koana Islands 8.316
Vizhune Vipers Koana Islands 8.137
Innerstad Metros Koana Islands 7.537
Ceara Stad Renegades Koana Islands 7.032
Piile Aalt Daggers Koana Islands 6.638
Sandford Stad Bulldogs Koana Islands 6.621
Vattenvadställe Avengers Koana Islands 6.568
Conneaut Centurions Koana Islands 6.337
Vertihålig Turtles Koana Islands 6.326
Alvaköping Defenders Koana Islands 6.053
Udde Fruktträdgård L'jacks Koana Islands 5.832
Ängelar Armada Koana Islands 5.529
Oberoendestad Cardinals Koana Islands 4.832
Rothes Blue Jays Koana Islands 4.800
Bymoor Legion Koana Islands 4.179
Zion Mercury Koana Islands 3.953

The final table (after 190 rounds) was relatively close to the table above, although it was random enough that the season wasn't decided before it had started:

NINJA EDIT: I forgot to mention. The best team (Omfattandestad) played the worst team (Zion) 20 times over the two seasons, with Omfattandestad winning 10 times, drawing 5, and Zion winning the remaining 5. The Titans did outhit the lower ranked team 127-86 and didn't lose at all in the first season (going 5-5-0), before sharing the spoils in season two with a 5-0-5 record each.
If anyone has any feedback, please don't hesitate to contact me.
