Postby Krytenia » Mon Sep 05, 2016 6:34 am

The NSAC does not recognise the "NS Athletics Championships" held by Britonisea as official.

SIGNUP AND OOC THREAD

Welcome, one and all, to the signups for the first NS Athletics Championships, to be held in the Krytenian capital city of Emberton.

DEADLINE
All delegations should be posted by 18:00 UTC on Wednesday 21st September 2016. Signups after this deadline may be accepted or rejected at the host’s discretion. The Championships are scheduled to begin on or about Saturday 24th September, and finish on Sunday 2nd October. A comprehensive schedule of events will be provided closer to the start of the Championships.

INSTRUCTIONS
Copy the list of events below. Under each event, put the names of the athletes that you wish to participate in that event, if any. If you are not sending anyone to participate in an event, use the strike function on that event. The number in brackets after each event indicates the maximum number of entries each delegation may have in that event.

  • If only the maximum number is shown—e.g., “(2)”—it is an individual event, and you must give the name of each participating individual on a separate line. (You may enter fewer than the maximum number.)
  • Relay events have a specific team size indicated—e.g., “(1 team of 4)”—you must give the name of each team member on a single line, separated by slashes.
The name(s) on each line should be followed by your nation or delegation’s three-letter code and a skill modifier, each separated by a semicolon, as shown in the example entry below.

SKILL MODIFIERS
Each entry must be given a skill modifier, which is a whole number from 0 to 100: 0 for the worst athletes and 100 for the best. A team entry gets a single skill modifier for the entire team, while an athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event. The average of all modifiers in a delegation may be at most 60. Please note this is slightly higher than the average for Olympic signups.

There will be an adjustment for min-maxing; this will be incorporated into the RP bonus in the form of a "Min-Max Avoidance Bonus," or MMAB, which is 0.2 if the standard deviation of all modifiers is 20 or less, 0 if the standard deviation is 40 or more, and adjusts on a linear scale where it is between 20 and 40.

EXAMPLE ENTRY
To ensure that your entries can be processed correctly, it is essential that you use exactly the correct format for the entry lines. If you fail to do so, your entries may be rejected and you will be asked to resubmit them.

MEN'S EVENTS
Men’s 100m (3)
Ed Sample;KRY;50
Ian Gee;KRY;40
Wayne Knott;KRY;30
Men’s 4×100m Relay (1 teams of 4)
Ed Sample/Ian Gee/Wayne Knott/Adam Ankers;KRY;80

CORRECTIONS
Edits may be freely made to your post up until the point where your entry is being processed. To assist in this, when I am about to process a group of entries, I will post an "UPDATE POINT" message. Any posts above this message will be processed "as is"; any further corrections or additions must be made in a new post. Corrections may be submitted up until the signup deadline; corrections submitted after the deadline may be accepted or rejected at the host’s discretion.

ENTRY LIMITS
Each user may enter up to two delegations (e.g. a master and a puppet nation), with a maximum of 200 entries across those delegations. An entry consists of one individual or one team entering one event—this means, e.g., that a team of four in one event counts as a single entry, while a single athlete participating in two events counts as two entries. There are 136 entries available per delegation, meaning the full 200 limit adds up to just under 1.5 delegations. Any user that is found to be submitting an undeclared puppet delegation will have all of their delegations removed.

Oof, a max STDEV of just 20? That's very restrictive. I will have to make some corrections to my delegation in light of that, I was working off the assumption it'd be the usual 30.

It's in light of the higher average.

As my girlfriend does not have an android phone but would like to play also but would have to be posted by my phone or i can arrange for her on my work computer.

Would i just sign her up as her nation and declare her a puppet of mine?

It would have to be a master/puppet situation, as you would both be using the same device(s). (We call this one the "Qazox Rule".)

'Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.' (II Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV)

West Phoenicia and Cumhact will be processed either this evening or tomorrow.

Kry, I think you're calculating standard deviation using the STDEV function in Excel/OpenOffice – but you actually need STDEVP. It's a pretty small deviation for me but in certain cases could result in a 0.01 difference in MMAB for some delegations. STDEVP assumes that its arguments are the entire population (which they are). If your data represents a sample of the population (which doesn't), then you should compute the standard deviation using STDEV.

Well, I did not know that. I'll update that in a little while.

Do you have permission from Britonisea (who is still active in NS Sports, I believe) to use the name of his event?

Past Tech/Magical Tech nation based out of the Realm of the Gods, a dimension inspired by RPGs, mythology and ancient/medieval history. Founder of the Olympia Games and host of the I Olympia Games.

The user behind this nation is better known as Saintland/Free Republics/Falatulu and is the author of A Newcomer's Guide to NS Sports.

He mentioned at the very top of this thread that "the NSAC does not recognise the "NS Athletics Championships" held by Britonisea as official".

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't the NSAC recognize his tournament?
