Narasato Stadium,
Borneung, Congcheon Province, Freyhill

Narasato Stadium, Nestled in Central Borneung, waited in Darkness; Borea’s Largest Stadium, Full, was Silent. Flickers of Light flashed throughout the Seating of the Stadium, either from excited Spectators or International Press testing their equipment. Moments Later, Traditional Music had entered the atmosphere of the stadium, setting the start of the opening proceedings at a simple but world class high.

“Bang…. Bang…. Bang….” echoed throughout Narasato’s walls, “Bang… Bang… Bang…”; Dressed in Shirtless Southern Kusanic Gowns, Drummers rose the audiences atmosphere to a gradual higher excitement, setting the path for the rest of the celebrations. Traditional Dancers “Jumped” out of hiding under Northern Mountain Silk from Pohae Province, with groups of celebrants later waving the props into the shape of the Begonia Bross (Flower of the Commonwealth).

“Dance, Brings Serene Behaviours” Boomed Throughout Narasato.

Dancers, Traditional and Modern, Combined in a routine throughout the stadiums field. Ethnic Dancers, in their thousands, expanded on the Begonia Bross to include various inventions and aspects of Monic culture. “Through Strength, Homosapians achieve records” Boomed Moments later.

Upon Command, Dancers “Tore” the Unified Begonia Bross apart to demonstrate the Greater Min Invasion of Southern Provinces during Imperial Government administration; later causing the Great War of Toksan. “War, Cannot be Avoided” Boomed Again.

Hundreds of Tuthinan Troops “Marched” upon Narasato’s Field, with various instruments rising their tempo to influence the audience's emotions. Moments of Conflict Later, Tuthinan Troops “Bleared” Victorious, demonstrating power over their historical Monic Opponent, The Greater Min Empire.

“Through War, Ties Tighten Closer” Boomed as performers quickly waved silk back into the shape of the Commonwealth Flower. Moments Later, Announcements in Freyhillian, French and English boomed through Narasato’s speakers;

"Sinsa sugnyeo mich sinsa, Toksan ui yeonbang ui gugga e daehan sangseung"
"Mesdames et Messieurs, Lève pour l'hymne national du Commonwealth des Toksan"
"Ladies & Gentlemen, Rise for The National Anthem of The Commonwealth of Freyhill"

During “Serene Freyhill”, Commonwealth Forces Based at the Imperial Borneung Air Base (IBAB) rose the “Flag of the Commonwealth”, Featuring the Begonia Bross in the Center of its Silk Canvas. The “Patriotic Crowd” (According to various International Commentators) went wild.

"Yeoseong & yeoleobun, Toksan ui yeonbang ui chongli, Maeteu Lundgren-eun osin geos-eul hwan-yeonghabnida."
"Mesdames et Messieurs, S'il vous plaît Bienvenue au Premier ministre du Commonwealth des Toksan, Mats Lundgren."
"Ladies & Gentlemen, Please Welcome the Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of Toksan, Mats Lundgren."

Moments Later, The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Freyhill, entered the “Official Podium” set up for Diplomats, Esquarian Games Officials and various international politicians.

“Welcome; Welcome to Borneung, to Freyhill” Boomed Lundgren’s smooth northern tone throughout Narasato Stadium. “Through Great Patriotic Pride, I’m Honoured to open the 2nd Summer Esquarian Games. Through Great Pride, I declare the Borneung 2016 Summer Games, open!”

The “Patriotic Crowd” went wild.

Parade of Nations,
Narasato Stadium;

“Ladies & Gentlemen, The Parade of Nations!” boomed throughout the speakers of Narasato Stadium. “Please Welcome; Toksan, Freyhill”. The Spectator’s inside Narasato, and infact, watching throughout Esquarium, brought their attention to the delegation of the host nation.

Dressed in Tailored Northern Silk, The Commonwealth Esquarian Games Delegation began their “March” to the center of Narasato. Pin Young Ja, upon his entrance to the stadium, waved to the crowds made up of thousands, with the bearer waving the Flag of the Commonwealth with Pride. Commonwealth Athletes in their masses, began to chant;

“LEDEU & HWAITEU;
LEDEU & HWAITEU;
HAMKKE TOKSAN NEUN SEUTAENDEU WAS SSAUM;
LEDEU & HWAITEU;
LEDEU & HWAITEU;
TOKSAN NEUN SEUTAENDEU WA JEONTU!”

Sports
Men's, Women's Footballers Advance to Quarter Finals in Esquarian Games
Fans were hopefull, but a little disappointed at the initial footballers scoring for both men's and women's teams representing the Kramden at the games in Borneung. Although both teams advanced to the quarter finals, coaches and players on the men's squad were a little put off by the tie with Ainin during the initial game. Coach Jackie Gutman put the best face on the tie, telling fans outside the arena "We're pretty happy with our defense. I do have to say, the Ainin team showed us unexpected speed. We're going to address that before the upcoming quarter finals. Hats off to the defense!" Team captain Henri Fromstein was more upbeat. In a post game interview with Fox Eretz Sports, he commented to host Simon Cayenne "We're going to do better going forward into the medals competition. Since coming off the FECOFA championship earlier this winter the guys have gotten a little rusty, what with coming back to speed with soccer at home and the unsettled status of the new professional league. But now that we're here, the spirit is great, and we really look forward to the next challenge".

The women's team was more demure, following it's 0-2 loss to Arkiasis in the Group C pairings. The team seemed to be hit hard by the limelight of international competition. The girl soccerballers, mostly senior college players had a variety of responses to the loss. Team Captain Sara Mayotte, a Full Back on the Steinhouse Municipal University team told the press pool "most of our girls haven't been out of the Kramden, except maybe on vacation to East Cortoguay or Masseau. We've never encountered this level of play". Midfielders Hannah Grunstein and Marie Levesque, both varsity at J. Robert Oppenheimer University were more sanguine. Grunstein remarked "We'll shake it off. The basics remain the same here or at home. I'm sure we'll do better heading into the quarter finals". Levesque added "Some on the team remember our comeback last fall in the 6-5 shootout against Michelson Tech. Well, nobody expected a high scoring game then and I'm sure we can get to scoring going forward. It's going to be all right".

West Cedarbrook Fans Take in the Competition at Klub Klezmer
Enthusiastic Kramden fans greeted the players, managers and coaches at "Klub Klezmer", a hastily redecorated bar outside the Athlete's Village in Borneung, decked out in blue and white and serving popular Cedarbrookese brews and martinis, along with a selection of pizza toppings popular with Cedarbrookese fans, many of which were unheard of before in the host city before the games. One bartender, who asked to remain anonymous, told us "Pizza with sausage? Wow! Unheard of, let alone onions or mushrooms. Catering to these crazy foreigners sure has been eye opening. Don't take it the wrong way, but, really, who ever thought of this. Gotta get back to work now..."

Captain Hae Kwang "Shocked" after defeating Powerhouse Masseau

- (Borneung, Freyhill) Although Borneung “Focused” on 2nd Esquarian Summer Games Opening Proceedings, the Opening Matches of the Men’s and Women’s Football Tournaments brought “Surprisement” to the Esquarian Football world. Emotions such as devastation, shock and excitement from various "underdog" teams have brought the Games Tornament to a new bar of excitement, with The Commonwealth's Pellikeon Men's Football Team winning over Masseau 1-0.

National Team Management described the win against Masseau as a “Boost of Confidence” in the Commonwealth’s Esquarian Games Football Campaign, with the team prepared to take on Daecon later this week. Although Bookies have awarded the Daeconese Side “Better Odds”, Team Captain Hae Kwang “remains optimistic”, with the head figure of Commonwealth Football said to be proud of his team's achievements between their “Hopeless Failure” at the Spring Coupe and the Esquarian Games Tournament.

Opponents Daecon are said to be having an “Excellent Campaign” at the Borneung Games, with the Nation “Defeating” Arkiasis 0-2; Placing their National Team at the top of Group A’s Table.

The Montecaran “King Killers” in Group B defeated Namor during the “Final Minutes” of the Last Half; with the Final Score being 3-2. Pavonistade Beat Ocelot Isles 0-2 Hours Later at Saricheok, with the nation now moving to the top of Group B’s table above Montecara.

West Cedarbrook tied with Ainin 2-2 after Scoring the Final Goal Moments before the 80 Minute Mark at Woong Stadium, Borneung. Zhouchia, Won their "Monic Orientated" Match against Xiaodong 0-2.

Parade of Nations,
Narasato Stadium;
Borneung, Congcheon Province, Freyhill

Arkiasis has never been a Summer Games powerhouse, a fact many Arkiasians are aware of. Swimming is seen as Arkiasis' most dominant summer sport with swimmers such as Gregg Lund, Jeremy Pearce, Mathias Simon, Teodora Short and Kortney Bradley seeing international and regional success.

The Arkiasian delegation were one of the first team to enter, a large delegation of over 300 athletes. Wearing a modest uniform of white and blue polo shirts and black trousers, most athletes seen filming with their phones, several waving miniature flags of both Arkiasis and Freyhill and all waving to the crowd. Carrying the flag was swimming star Gregg Lund, competing in the 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 400m breaststroke, 800m breaststroke and the 4x100m freestyle. Gregg Lund has already won several medals in the Nordania Swimming Championship and the Esquarium Swimming Championship and is now looking to win medals in the Summer Games.

Despite the regional turmoil and uncertainty at home following a deadly terrorist attack 2 months ago and subsequent threats of war from warring nations and neighbours, Arkiasis will be looking to focus on the virtues of sport and competition, but most of all win and capture medals.

The Arkiasis Women's National Football Team

Arkiasis made the surprise decision to not send the same men's team that made it to the finals of the Spring Coupe d'Esquarium in Livancia back in May. Instead opting to send the U-23 men's team instead. The reason comes from the Arkiasian Premier League ultimately refusing to stop the season for several weeks during the Games. The Premier League stated that stopping matches for the Summer Games would interfere with the scheduling, cost the League money, and potentially interfere with the Fall Coupe d'Esquarium. The Arkiasis Premier League operates during the summer, running from right after the Spring Coupe d'Esquarium ending right before the Fall Coupe d'Esquarium. The women's team is unaffected by the news and will send the national women's team to compete.

In the first day of competition, the Arkiasis men's team fell 0-2 to Daecon while the women's won 2-0 against West Cedarbrook with goals from Lanna Parsons and Eva Cloet.

OOC: The Day -1 reporting is very lazily-done
Parade of Nations
Opening Ceremony
Narasato Stadium, Borneung

As the Opening Ceremony went underway with a beyond-spectacular performance and a touch of Lundgren's speech, the Pavonistadian team delegated to the games prepared for their entry into the Parade of Nations. After this moment, Pavonistade will be up with other countries to compete for the top place, but what matters the most would be the enjoyable moments that could be reaped in the course of the games.

It was ensured that Pavonistade's debut in the Esquarian Games was to be one of the lasting memories in the multi-sport events, at least for the Pavonistadians. To reflect the country's diverse cultural nature, its team was composed of athletes from varying origins, yet share a common Pavonistadian unity and identity. Each athlete wore a shirt bearing the three national colours black (right sleeve), red (body) and blue (left sleeve), as well as trousers in white. The person designated as the flagbearer was Ian Seitham, who was set to compete in Men’s 3 000 m Steeplechase.

When an announcement welcomed Pavonistade into the Parade of Nations, the stadium was overwhelmed by an ecstatic atmosphere. As the Pavonistadian team marched, they captured the attention of the attendants just like the teams of Freyhill, Arkiasis and other participating countries. They brought glory in some form for Pavonistade and for all of Esquarium to see. Along the way they sang to the tune of a 2011 song.

Two-Oh-One-And-Six, the year is on for the game
We are getting ready, and so are you?
Two-Oh-One-And-Six, this year we are all as one
It is all so full of vigor

So let's get together
Together, together, together, together
There's no better time to get around and push on
Together, together, together, together
It's the time to unite and bring it on
[...]

With the exhilarating entry and chants, the game is on for the team - and for the whole country.

Parade of Nations
Narasato Stadium
Borneung, Congcheon Province, Freyhill

페시다라!
Pisdara!
Pisdarie!

As the announcer's voice boomed across the stadium, the smallest competitor entered, with its six athletes in tow. Pisdara was new to the Esquarian Games, and there was question on wheiter they would win a medal, especially gold, during Borneung. Most said no, but the island nation's breakthrough performance in this year's Coupe d'Esquarium saw a few commentators murmuring about Pisdara winning its first medals at its debut.

The six athletes, all dressed in yellow, green, and blue jackets and white pants, waved towards the crowd as 100m Men's competitor Abi Eshu stood at the front, waving the Pisdari flag around. The rest took a selfie, before figuring out where one of the TV cameras were located, and quickly gathered around it, chanting "Pishdara, ash teshi! Pisdarie, unis comme un!" Moving forward, the small delegation continued to wave, before finally joining the others.
The Republic of Pisdara - Umiaki Pishdara - République de Pisdarie

Esquarium's one and only multilingual island directorial republic!

28,000 people speaking two different languages stuck on 100 miles of island chains. What could possibly go wrong?

SUMMER ESQUARIAN GAMES KICK OFF IN FREYHILL
First Aininian medal: Silver in swimming

Via the Aininian Press Association - The Summer Esquarian Games officially kicked off today in Borneung, Freyhill, with an opening ceremony depicting scenes from Monic culture amd Freyhillian history. After being opened by Mats Lundgren, the country's prime minister, to great fanfare, the ceremony then made way for the famous Parade of Nations.

For Ainin, Rafi Houssam carried the tricolour flag at the head of the hundreds-strong Aininian delegation. Mr. Houssam, a competitor in the table tennis (ping-pong) events, was born in Nautarya and has been an outspoken advocate of religious freedom since arriving in Ainin in 1999. He stirred up controversy in 2012 by resigning from the University of Avran, where he coached the table tennis team, after university regents banned the Islamic burqa on campus. He famously was the subject of a failed assassination attempt in 2013, when unknown assailants shot at his car in Tourres. His selection as flagbearer was controversial, but the Aininian Games Committee defended it by stating that "his civic activism and devotion to the rights of man represents the best that Aininian democracy has to offer."

According to data research firm FCD-Fédéral, 38.5 million Aininians tuned in for the Opening Ceremony, the second-highest viewership for a sport event since the CdE II semi-final match between Ainin and Vyvland.

After the ceremony concluded, the Games proper kicked off with a flurry of events. In the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay, Ainin obtained its first medal of the Games. Anastasie Grinda, Thérèse Gueguen, Laëtitia Deshaies and Noémie Boutet narrowly edged out Montecara to claim second place, behind the Games' hosts, Freyhill. Speaking to STA International, Ms. Deshaies expressed her "exhilaration" and said: "This was a tight race and we gave it our all. We're proud to bring home the first of many medals." In the men's swimming events, the results were rather more disappointing, as Clément Bachelet was disqualified in the men's 400m freestyle final and no Aininian qualified for the men's 100m breaststroke.

In football, the Coyotes tied with West Cedarbrook with a final score of 2-2, a disappointing start for the highly-ranked team. They are next expected to face Xiaodong, which is a match that most analysts expect the team to win. A burnout finish at the Summer Games would put the embattled manager Maxime Arsenault in the hot seat and likely force his resignation, after disappointing outcomes in Livancia and Lyonsland.

Radio West Cedarbrook Overseas Service: Sports Beat

Good evening to our listeners in West Cedarbrook and overseas, this is Radio West Cedarbrook Sports Beat, a summary of major events in and around West Cedarbrook in the worlds of football, drag racing, basketball, and other activities.

Tonight, our coverage of the Esquarian Games in Freyhill continues, as we continue to focus of the performance of the waterlogged Chiefs, in swimming and diving.

Mersene Looks Good in Heat
Image

Sandra Mersene, the Kramden's best girl hope in the pool events moved forward in two events while failing to qualify in the 100 Meter Butterfly competition. The Alsatiano Flash as she is known to her teammates burned all other competitors to qualify best in Women's 400 Meter Freestyle at 4:08:59 earlier, ahead of nearest competitors Teodora Short of Arkaisis, who finished her heat at 4:11:91. Ms. Mersene also qualified 4th in the 400 Meter Semi. Sandra, who devoted herself to full time training for the last year, seemed nonplussed by the non qualify in the shorter Butterfly event. At poolside she told RWC Sports "I've always been more of an endurance swimmer, but in the last year did perform well at the 100 Meter level in the Butterfly. So, on the advice of Coach Dumont we decided to go ahead with the 100 Meter event. Coach has been pretty protective of our team, given that we haven't raised swimmers in many events, and wants us to put our best foot forward. The approach seems to be working out. The real test will be in the finals, in both the Semi and the Freestyle". Parents Steven and Marie, along with the swimmer's two brothers and her sister Marie Claire and fifteen aunts and uncles were in the cheering section for each of Sandra's trial heats. Joining the family in support was a large contingent of home town boosters from North Molezhinyts, in Central State.

Harry, Bronzed, Kicks Back with College Team
West Cedarbrook's only medalist at the games so far, swimmer Harry Polcharsky spent much of Day 2 relaxing with members of his college team, the North Central State Wolves after winning bronze in the Men's 400 Meter Freestyle. Polcharsky, a Junior at NCSU majoring in Marketing was greeted by college teammates with a hearty cry of Fayn Prubirn, Herschel in Galitzianer (Nice Try, Harry) as they met for a late breakfast followed by sightseeing in some of the more quaint sections of Borneung. Coach
Hirschorn explained that "We think Harry did real well, given the level of competition he faced. We're all proud of him, and he should relax and enjoy some time off. Coming into this, few gave the team much chance, but he did all right." Despite a late burst of speed, Polcharsky finnished third, falling 21 hundreths of a second behind gold medalist Ricardo Abano of Masseau, and Freyhill's Ryom Kyu Bok, the crowd's home team favorite, also expected to take the event. A last minute mixup delayed
Polcharsky's sightseeing tour, as Coach Hirschorn chased after the team bus to make sure that the interpreter got on board with the group.

Chiefs Shut Out Arkiasis in Men's Field Hockey
Team Captain Joshua Raphael earned the second shutout of his career as West Cedarbrook beat Arkiasis today in pre-medal competiiton.

"I think just getting that first game under your belt is real important, "said head coach Charles Morowsky.

"We talked about how we felt when we first arrived, the jitters are gone, we grew as that game went on, but we need to make sure we start at the beginning of the the next game and play for 70 minutes."

"I think Ephriam Heshbon really sent the tone for our back field and I think Josh had an answer for every shot."

The Cheifs took an early lead, as Abraham Dzulgicz found his way to the back of the cage in the 12th minute of game play.

Assisted by Michael Weiss, Dzulgicz was able to get the ball at the top of the circle and had a clean shot into the cage, earning his first goal of the season.

In the second half, the Cheifs were able to extend their led to 2-0 with a goal by Shai Ben-Yitzhak.

WC1 Ratings Overshadow Games With The Has-Beens Go to Freyhill
Although the West Cedarbrook 1 lost out on it's coverage bid for the games, the network pulled a stunning coup by shipping the cast and crew of "The Has-Beens" off to the Freyhill Games to give viewers a glimpse of the antics of the poular show in an exotic setting. Playing against the first day of competition, Degansky Media Services showed "The Has-Beens" at a 23% share of the market, as opposed to a 20% share for the games themselves. The familiar cast, retired Fort Joseph Quarterback Pierre Lambeau, popular Nevan Negro game show host Essa-Pekka Stenraalikuvernööriannoiano, second-rate country crooner Posek Briand, and washed up comedian Claude Beauregard spent most of the first hour clumsily bumping their way through the Borneung Airport, including a ten minute ride on the baggage carousel by Mr. Lambeau, and pleading with airport security on the part of Mr. Briand to avoid a charge of public intoxication and menacing against the aging footballer.

Image
Stunned travelelers gaped at the balding ball hurler as he rode a large trunk like a bronco at a rodeo, wailing "Lookee here Freyhill, I'm king of this here luggage!", before being rushed off by a red faced Beauregard and embarrassed Stenraalikuvernööriannoiano. Viewers were treated to Mr. Lambeau's further antics in the episode, including his surprise and flamboyant reaction to unfamiliar seafood dishes at a local restaurant, and stumbling and falling face first into the commode at his hotel room. Later in the day, the four wash-ups were guests on an afternoon talk show. The network has gone into overdrive promoting the next episode, this time during the boxing competiton at the games. A spokesman for the West Cedarbrook embassy in Borneung vehemently denied that an escort had been arranged for the cast by the Department of External Affairs.
