Ladies, Gentlemen and all manner of genders, welome to the first Northwestern Cup! Your host, Savalen Football Association (SAF), welcomes you to the northern kingdom of Savalen, where you will play out for the Cup! Good luck!

As there are no ranks, the tournament kicks off with all teams having an equal chance to win the prize. There is an element of luck involved, but you can improve your luck by doing one thing: roleplay! If you have both, you are giving yourself the greatet chance in winning the tournament, but losing is a part of sport and the fun part is writing it off. Your RP will be rated by me and will be entered into the scorinator (I will be using Xkoranate) before every matchday, which increases your chance of winning the match (this isn't a guarantee!).

In this thread, IC (in-character) roleplaying about the tournament, such as roosters and reports. Despite the name "everything thread", there are some things that should never be posted - whether it being comments, problems or placeholders (and no "tags"), they should not be posted here. They have to be instead directed to the sign-ups/OOC threadTelegram. Unnecessary out-of-character comments will result turning your RP bonus into 0.

For those of you still unsure, I will post a rooster and RP soon. Copying the format will not affect your RP bonus negatively, it's the content that's important and I will be generous, but quality will be rewarded over quantity (both play a part - one amazing post after MD 2 isn't as good overall compared to good ones every matchday - you will have one good RP bonus for MD 3, but otherwise you will haver an RP bonus of 0 for the rest of them. Balance is important!)

First of all, if you are new to the NS Sports forum, you really should read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. This guide presents you a general idea on what to do and how tournaments in NS Sports work. In case you have any additional questions, feel free to ask on the Discussion Thread (again, linked above) or send one of the hosts a telegram.

Now that you have already taken that step, you should start thinking in a roster for your team. A roster is -in its simplest form- a list of the 11 players in your starting lineup, their positions, manager/head coach, and also the players in your bench or reserves. Some participants often include some other information aimed at enriching the RPing experience and opportunities, for example, additional information on their players, coaching staff, their backgrounds, clubs, style of play, strenghts and weaknesses and anything else deemed to be of interest or anything you want others to know about your team. There is no limit regarding the number of players you can include in your roster, and there's no gender- or species-based restriction of any sort, either, with several past World Cup champions and other established nations currently competing or having competed with all-male, all-female, mixed-gender teams, teams comprised by monks, and also teams made up of elves, sentient bears and ponies, among several others.

Next up, you may want to include a style modifier for your team in your roster. A style modifier is a number ranging from -5 to +5 which will be inputted into the scorinator and will also serve to give others an idea of your style of play. Teams with negative style modifiers tend to be more defense-focused and will concede (on average) fewer goals at the cost of having more trouble at scoring goals. On the other hand, if your team is more offense-focused, then you should choose a positive style mod. Teams that play offensively tend to score more goals on average...but also tend to concede more goals in return. For those of you who would rather a more balanced style, a neutral style mod of 0 is also available. Teams will also be assigned a style mod of 0 if they don't state a style modifier.

Okay, so you already have a list of players and have chosen a style mod for your team. Good. Now pay attention to this part, because this is one of the most important things to include in your roster as it will have an effect on your opponents' RPs. Ladies and gentlemen, now we present to you the RP Permissions Box:

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No

The box above will be the tool enabling you to tell your opponents what you are willing to allow them to do, as well as what you are not allowing them to do. Please copy and paste it somewhere into your roster indicating your preferences as well as any restrictions for every option. Now let's review the meaning of each of these options:

Choose my goalscorers allows your opponents to choose which player(s) score your team's goal(s), should they RP the match before you do. Almost everyone allows this option since the most common form of roleplay in this forum is the traditional match summary/report, and it would be really difficult to write one of those without identifying the goalscorers. Godmod scoring events enables your opponents to RP goals that are scored in an unrealistic way or not likely to happen in reality.

The RP injuries to my players option is pretty self-explanatory: it allows your opponents to injure your players. However, most participants who allow others to injure their players will also set restrictions on the severity and causes of those injuries, thus retaining some extent of control on how badly injured their player is and future consequences and impacts of that injury on their teams. Just like "Godmod scoring events" for unlikely/unrealistic goals, Godmod injuries to my players refers to your opponents RPing injuries on your players but caused in less common and/or unrealistic ways. This option is generally used for more drastic injuries than those of the standard injury option, ranging from rendering your players unable to play the remainder of the tournament, ending their careers, or even killing them. That causes this option to be restricted by most players.

Yellow cards and red cards are an important part of the game, as yellow cards are handed out to players who aren't following the rules of the game as a warning, with red cards being handed out either after a second yellow card or as a result of a particularly severe violation of the rules or unsportsmanlike behaviour. Those players that are shown a red card are sent off the field, forcing their team to continue the remainder of the match with less players. Basically, if you choose "yes" to any or both of those options, you are allowing your opponents to enact such disciplinary actions against your players in their RPs. However, you can also set limits on the number of those cards if your players are less prone to carrying out actions that cause them to be booked and/or sent off.

Finally, Godmod other events refers to other unrealistic and/or unlikely events not related with goals or injuries. This can include from severe weather conditions, events by fans in the stands, to the opening of a portal to another dimension at the center of the pitch in the middle of the match. There are several things that can fall into this option, therefore you might deem it appropriate to set some limits for your opponents.

Transportation

Getting in will be easy as any nation from the INWU only needs a passport to enter the country, visa-free travel is the way forward. The easiest way to get into Savalen is through the main airport, Telegetu International Airport. It is also possible to fly to Trondheim and Molde, but flights are rarer to both cities. Travel by car is relatively cheap because of the developed rental service, but it is recommended that fans travel by train, as it is usually faster and cheaper. The trains themselves are well maintained and travel regularly, so it give you flexiblity when travelling

Languages

All citizens speak Norweigan and are required to know a second language. Around 50% of the population speak English as a second language and around 30% speak Mongolian, whith the other 20% compromising a wide range of langauges, with the largest being Slovak, which makes up a large portion of the immigrant population.

Lodging

All stadiums are in large cities, so there is at least a five star hotel in the cities if you are looking for luxury. There is also a wide range of four to three star hotels in all cities, which allows even the largest influx of tourists to not overburden the hotel system. Camping sites have sprung up, as the weather has hit a relative warm patchas spring comes to a close, so this is a viable option. However, there is no law, unlike with hotels, that campsities have to have faster WiFi or any WiFi at all, so if you still need to work, book your hotel now!

Weather

All of Savalen is within Temperate and Polar climates, with only Trondheim hosting matches and lying in the Polar area. The area is now experiencing warm weather, which means that it is a lovely time to play football, as warm weather in Savalen is typically a cool 18 to 20°C. Current tempuratures, in order of city size:

Alvdal: currently a cool 18°C, it is expected to rise to around 21°C for the final.
Trondheim: The coldest of the locations, it is currently around 14°C, but it can get as cold as 5/6°C in the evening. Wrap up warm!
Molde: it will stay around 22°C throughout the tournament, but the sea wind chill means that it will feel more like 18°C, even in the stadium.
Vik: Basking in the sunshine in the South-West of the country, temperatures will be around 24°C
Harrenhall: Located at around 1500m, the weather is till warm, but a cool breeze will make this place feel like 16°C or so
Røros: 19°C/20°C

Money

The national currency of Savalen is the Tugrik, which is fairly moderate. The current exchange rate is NS$1 = ₮0.92. The prices are relatively cheap, especially local produce. The average 500ml water bottle costs around ₮0.50.

Religion

Savalen doesn't have a national religion and when asked buy the international community, refused to give one. That being said, there are a few religous buildings around the country, mostly in the largest cities.

The draw was done on random.org.
I ordered the nations in sign-up order from 1 to 10, then drew the first to Group A, second to Group B etc.

Knockout rounds over two legs. Letter determines the group, number determines the placing.

Stadiums

Image
Dodford Park
Built: 2008
Capacity: 57,250
City: Alvdal
Home team: Trondfjell Albion
Matches: MD 3 - Savalen vs Tracian Empire; MD 4 - Kathmandue vs El Fiji Grande; SF A1 vs B2 (first leg); Final.
Details: Found in the capital, this is the national stadium of Savalen. Expect a raucous home crowd, as it's unique "wall of sound", a stand without tiers, on the west side, is a formidable. Warning - not for the faint hearted.
Alvdal itself is a charming nordic village that streches on forever with the sparkling new city in the center. Hiking trails onto the highest peak in Savalen (3,647) start here.

Image
Bright Hart Lane
Built: 1996
Capacity: 48,000
City: Trondheim
Home team: Trondheim Vikings
Matches: MD 3 - Kathmandue vs Topsail Empire; MD 4 - Savalen vs Naigeria; MD 5 - Crumstain vs El Fiji Grande; SF B1 vs A2 (second leg); 3rd Place Play-off.
Details: Found in the far north in the industrial city of Trondheim. Not much to see here, unless you're interested in the old industries (not being sarcastic - the old markets are worth a visit even if it requires an early morning start - they close at 8 am). But the passion of the fans is incredible, so sports talk will be heard all day, every day whilst the tournament is on. Why not go to one of the pubs during matchday?

Image
Waterfront Park
Built: 2016
Capacity: 42,000
City: Molde
Home team: Molde FC
Matches: MD 1 - Tracian Empire vs Naigeria; MD 2 - Tracian Empire vs Raventsvo; MD 3 - Naigeria vs Gatito; MD 5 - Naigeria vs Raventsvo; MD 4 - Raventsvo vs Gatito; SF A2 vs B1 (first leg).
Details: Beautiful stadium built just for tournament found in Molde. Molde was a fishing village for centuries until, fifty years ago, oil was found nearby and the military decided to set up a base nearby within two years of each other. Since then the city has grown twenty fold and shows no sign of slowing up.

Image
Viking Dome
Built: 2003
Capacity: 29,000
City: Vik
Home team: Vik
Matches: MD 1 - Topsail Empire vs El Fiji Grande; MD 3 - El Fiji Grande vs Kaelmar Unionen; MD 4 - Savalen vs Naigeria; MD 2 - Topsail Empire vs Crumstain.
Details: You want beautiful countryside? You've come to the right country! You don't like cheese, wine (amazing for this cold climate, grapes do grow here), ham or any type of cuisine that isn't sea-based? You've come to the wrong county. Vik represents the south-west of the country, which houses most of the agriculture. Enjoy! (oh and the stadium's small, but fiery).

Image
Hallmaker Lane
Built: 1986
Capacity: 25,000
City: Landsby Kongelig (Village of Royals)
Home team: Harrenhall FC
Matches: MD 1 - Savalen vs Raventsvo; MD 2 - Kathmandue vs Kaelmar Unionen; MD 5 - Tracian Empire vs Gatito.
Details: Some people say that this stadium is a little small for the Northwestern Cup, but the grandeur of the seat of Khans is too stunning not to show. See for yourself. And then there's the stadium. Set on the outskirts in the first palace of Landsby Kongelig - where guests were welcomed, it is literally inside of the palace. One of the entrances is through the grand door and another through the servants door. To see this unique stadium, I would advise staying an extra day or two to see the stadium on a stadium tour! Also doubles up as a base for reporters.

Image
Røros Dome
Built: 1999
Capacity: 32,000
City: Røros
Home team: Røros Rovers
Matches: MD 1 - Kathmandue vs Crumstain; MD 2 - Savalen vs Gatito; MD 4 - Crumstain vs Kaelmar Unionen; MD 5 - Topsail Empire vs Kaelmar Unionen; SF - B2 vs A1 (second leg).
Details: Based in Røros, an old mining town, the area has some of the best views in the INWU, let alone Savalen. A hike is greatly recommended, as is the visit to the "northern safari." If you're rich enough, how about a helicopter ride following the deer on their annual migration, a truly awe-inspiring site!

Final words: good luck!

Savalen National Squad - Northwestern Cup

Team Facts

Nation: The Nomadic Peoples of Savalen

Region: International NorthWestern Union

Stadium: Dodford Park, Tronfjell, Hamar, (Seats 57,250)

Nicknames: The Savages, The Lynxes (national animal), Savs

SENIOR TEAM

Coach - Marvin Vetlesen.
Well know home-grown coach, who has only ever had jobs in Savalen. Following promotion with Alvadal United into the top division two years ago, he was drafted in to replace the foreign coach with quite a temper, Jonny “Hamfist” Barton in the U-15 and with just a month's preparation, led them to the quaterfinals. Snapped up by the senior team, he has had a year or so to work with the team.

Continuing with what he knows best, he has gone with youth, 26 being the oldest age in the team. Will their energy and fearlessness pay off? Or will it be a sad start to the season for the team?

Style Modifier +2

Starting Tactic - 4-2-3-1. The coach does have an Italian Assistant, Fabio Dalmonte, who has influenced Vetlesen to the extent that he has very flexible tactics that may change during the match. Favourites are 4-1-3-2 and 3-2(WBs)-1(DM)-2-2 (Offensive with wing-backs). Followed his friend from the U-15s to the senior team.

STARTING XI

GK - #1 Leiv Selberg 21 y/o
Definitely the best goalkeeper in the league, but with so little back-up, can he sustain the good form that finished in him winning the title?

LB (CB) - #8 Otta Gudmundson - 26 y/o
Not a very large left-back, but otherwise has a good defensive record.

CB - #5 Conrad Alvdal - 25 y/o
Solid, tall and fast centre back, but he has a tendancy to lash out to provacation. It is surprising that he is in the starting eleven, but with Ibsen out, it must have been a flip of the coin.

CB - #9 Ron Jorgensen - 21 y/o
Another centre back with a similar build, but is a little slower and less experienced. However, his positioning and tackling makes him a guaranteed starter.

RB (WB) - #3 Norvik Falla - 24 y/o
Absolute beast with quite a bit of pace, but the end product can be lacking, however these offensive attributes mean that space can be left in behind.

DM - #7 Rauno Liikanen - 25 y/o
Nabbed from the neighbouring country thanks to his parents being from Savalen, he has an eye for a pass and great positioning.

DM - #2 Tobsakha - 20 y/o
Absolute beast of a man, but yet still has some pace. However, just like Alvdal, does have severe disciplinary problems, but only when seriously wound up.

CAM - #36 Temuge - 22 y/o
The star of this team. He can pretty much do anything in offence and isn't the worst in defence. Captain for a reason.

R(A)M - #4 Kurt Axelsen - 16 y/o
Some of the world’s best teams are interested, but his level-headedness means that he has come out stating that he will definitely play in Savalen for now to continue his development. His talent is unquestionable, but the fact that he is the youngest member of the team means he has less experience and ability. One for the future, but don’t be fooled, he deserves the call up.

L(A)M - #17 Þór Eldgrímursson - 19 y/o
Has an excellent cross and seems to find even the smallest player. He doesn't have the greatest of right foots, however.

ST - #2 Max(im) Lisov- 21 y/o
Remember the name. Absolute star striker, whose right foot is a thing of wonder. He may seem a little small, but the years spent in the junior high-jump teams mean that even in the air, Lisov musn't be underestimated.

SUBS

GK - #11 Alfred Elstad - 24 y/o
One of the two Elstad brothers, his height means that set-pieces aren’t a problem, but any low shots may prove difficult to deal with.

CB - #75 Derik Ibsen - 24 y/o
NSadly out for the first game and maybe the second, but, unless the man who replaced him aces his matches, is likely to resume his position in the centre of defence. Vice-Captain.

LWB - #16 Matt Tatar - 23 y/o
Not a bad prospect, but his defensive game can be lacking. Vetlesen likes putting him on when switching to 3-2-1-2-2.

RB - #12 Avdo Vuèko - 25 y/o
Prone to injuries, one of which halted his development. However, he has made a steady comeback into the team over the past half-year. On his day can be an absolute rock, stopping anything that comes his way, but is unlikely to start whilst the team plays offensively.

DM - #14 Chanar Aarnes - 25 y/o
Nice, hard-working, defensive midfielder, but the two in the team are just too good, but is excellent cover. It's one of the few places where Savalen really doesn't have a problem.

MC - #18 Max(im) Sviták - 18 y/o
Skilful and powerful, just like his brother, who plays for the U 15's. His ability with free-kicks and the ability to make something out of nothing may prove vital in the latter stages.

ST - #15 Gunnar Moy - 25 y/o
Has an absolutely amazing bullet header thanks to his height, but it is impossible to displace the current frontman, but he is a little better on the counter. Impact sub? Absolutely.

R/LM - #13 Samson Elstad - 22 y/o
Brother of Alfred, can play on both flanks as he is good with both feet. Critics say he doesn’t show his attacking ingenuity enough, but it certainly is there and hopefully he can turn up at the right moment if called upon.

ST - #6 Malik Gur- 18 y/o
His call up is surprising, but Vetlesen went to a lot of Alvadal training sessions to decide who he was going to take between him and Marik Svensson (of Trondheim Vikings FC). Nice low shot and a cool head for penalties may prove decisive, especially in the latter stages of the match.

Team Facts

Nation: Topsail Empire

Region: International NorthWestern Union

Stadium: Boeing Stadium, Topsail City, (Seats 20,000)

Coach - Thomas Ditka.
Ditka is a well-known Topsailian soccer coach who has coached the national team for four years, leading them to a regional championship in 2010 and finishing as runner-ups in 2013 and 2015. Before coaching the national team he coached abroad in Kathmandue and Atlantica, and earned a reputation as a strong coach. Although soccer is not an extremely popular sport in Topsailia, during his spree as coach he has raised home game attendance from only 6,540 averaged per game in 2009 to 15,680 in last year's runner-up season. He prefers an up-tempo offensive scheme, winning on scoring alone, however when called upon the defense can perform decently.

Nation: The Republic Of Crumstain

Region: International Northwestern Union

Stadium: Kabia Stadium, Lumis, Crumstain (Seats 21,000)

Nicknames: Swans

SENIOR TEAM

Coach - Zakariyya Kelly - 45 y/o

A former player for FC Berreta, Zakariyya Kelly is famous for preaching defense and fundamentals over pure offense. Often boring fans with this play-style, only die hard fans are able to remain awake during games. Kellys tactic emphasizes defense and wearing down the opposition; Observing the opponents strengths and weaknesses. Coach Kelly won the Krumland National Championship in 2011 and runner-up the following year. His idea of an offense is to counter the other teams attempt at scoring, disrupting their flow and catching them out of position to provide the best possible chance of scoring. Under his authority of the club in Lumis, sold out games are rare but the high percentage of die hard fans results in a rowdy crowd that explodes when the team finally scores. IF they can score.

It was a beautiful day for a game at some random stadium in Savalen, where 23,000 people showed up for the first leg of the Northwestern Cup. And they were not disappointed, as the Iguanas pulled off a 3-2 victory over El Fiji Grande. The first Topsailian goal of the day came at the 11 minute mark, when striker Peter Winters scored off a rebound to put the Iguanas up 1-0. El Fiji Grande then answered, scoring at the 17 minute mark to tie it up 1-1. El Fiji Grande would then take the lead at halftime after another goal at the 41 minute mark put them up 2-1. However, the Iguanas came out of halftime hot, scored at the 51 minute mark and the 76 minute mark to put the game away and secure the 3-2 victory. Peter Winters had two goals and an assist in a spectacular performance, while Right Attack Midfielder Jose Ricardo score the Iguanas' other goal. One Topsailian player received a yellow card, defensive midfielder James Motter. Overall it was a good performance for the Iguanas, and a great way to start off the tournament.

Bob Ross, supreme painter and coach of the "Lions of the North", was sitting in one of the cozy cafés that Røros had to offer, situated near the city Dome. He was waiting for the Kathmanduean coach and one of his closest friends Marcel Toussaint, while smutting on a hot, Savalen style cocoa and drawing the beautiful landscape on his personal notebook, which always accompanied him while conducting business in the name of football. "Ah, I need to add one more happy little tree, everything deserves a little bit of happiness from time to time in this shoddy state of a world".

"At last you came! hey there my old pal" said Bob while extending hugs and offering Marcel a place to sit. "Should I order something for y- Oh, ok fine by me! I saw the match between you and those Crumstilians, and wow, I must say that it was literally a fight to the teeth; the time was almost up and it could've been a draw if it hadn't been for one of them Crumb boy's quick dodging. Beauregard did his best though, couldn't have asked a finer GK than him". The waiter arrived with the finest Akvavit that Marcel apparently ordered. "Here you go gentlemen, Røros Akvavit; nicer shaite you can't find elsewhere *chuckles*, enjoy"! Bob was about to drink when he was somewhat reluctant at first. "My friend, do you think it's wise to drink before dinner, I m-, all right if you do insist; CHEERS!" Both of them took a clunk before continuing with their conversation. "Take a look at my latest work, ain't that shabby eh? Gosh, it's darn diddily beautiful here, reminds me of the time I was in Kathmandue and back home in the Kalmar Union. If you're wondering, yes I'm planning to visit your beloved country, can't resist those delicious baguettes and I must see the Callau Mountains; need some more inspiration once this football event is over. Yep, I do agree, can't wait for tom. match between your lads and mine. May the one who deserves it the most win! Before you go, here have a drawing of mine, it's- Oh no no, I do ensist my good sir *chuckles* I have literally hundreds of those, mainly remnants from the last couple of episodes done on the "Joy of Painting" series. Let's order more of this good shaite, oh waiter"...

WAKE UP! SWANS SCORED!

Of course, it might appear to you as a blurry image in your head sleepy head.

In the first game of the Northwestern Cup, the Krümland Swans came up victorious over the much hated Baguettes of Kathmandue to a score of 0-1. Now, this should be exciting and all for the Swans and their loyal fans, but unfortunately it wasn't. Since it took the Swans 88 minutes to finally score thanks to a slow rolling ball delivered by Chiyembekezo "The Chief" Africano, many fans were found passed out from drinking, boredom, or simply past their bedtime. We were able to question some dreary eyed fans about the game and we got some exciting responses such as "Huh?" and "Where am I" along with a "Where are my pants?". How provocative they were!

We also got some words with Coach Kelly on the game and what he thinks the future holds for this team. "I think we did some good things today. Some bad things too. Good ball movement and defense and a score. I think we can be a contender in the Northwestern Cup."

Well, we sure hope the Swans will be a contender for the Northwestern Cup since they are, in fact, in the competition. Speaking of competition, the results from Group A were significantly more competitive than the results from Group B where the Tracian Empire National team beat Naigeria 1-7 and Savalen shutting out Raventsvo 4-0. Whether this is because of amazing offenses or lackluster defenses, we won't know for sure until more games are to play out.

Let us remind the fans here, there was a game today for the Swans. The Swans did in fact score. They also won. Bring some coffee to the next game or hope the bed bugs don't bite you in the stands.

The Thracian Football Federation-Northwestern Cup

Image
Gooool! Goool pentru Tricolori!

What a truly amazing game we had last night, ladies and gentlemen! Although the Northwestern Cup has just started, the Thracian Football Federation's National Team has earned an amazing victory, defeating Naigeria's National Team in what seemed to be a child's play for the Tricolors, smashing the enemy team with a score of 7-1. With this wonderful victory, the Thracians have strongly claimed the first place in the B Group, although Savalen's National Football Team is coming strong from behind, having defeated Raventsvo's National Football Team with 4-0. Before the games of the next days, let's see how this game went! Gooo, Tricolors!

Although the game was played abroad, in a stadium in Savalen, the Thracian supporters have filled out the stands today, once again proving the popularity of the National Football Team among its conditionals. The game began with the Thracians attacking strongly from the first minutes, the Naigerian defensive failing in the 11th minute, when the Thracian FW Florin Andone successfully got a pass from Adrian Popa, scoring the first goal of the game. The Thracian attacks remained strong for the entire first half, and in '23, the Naigerian team's play simply seemed to collapse, after a goal from Nicolae Stanciu, Bogdan Stancu scored two goals in '24 and '26, followed by a goal from Ovidiu Hoban in '29, crushing the enemy team, and making the score 5-0 at half time. Slowing down in the second half, the Thracian team managed to score two more goals through Raul Rusescu, who replaced Andone, and received a pass from Stanciu after being left unmarked by the Naigerian defensive. Rusescu wasn't done yet, and a couple minutes later, in '79, Rusescu received Stancu's cross from the left, and hit a powerful shot over the Naigerian goalkeeper. Close to end, a Naigerian player made it through, and managed to score his team's only goal in that game, ending it 7-1 for the Tricolors.

A truly nice victory, but this was only the first match in the Cup. With the Thracians getting a new start, what will happen in the next game? We'll surely see!

MOTM: Temuge

Terrific Temuge
Image

In the wonderful Hallmaker Lane, set inside a palace, Savalenm or rather half of the team, got off to a good start, but surely there are greater challanges ahead. Four goals for Temuge, two of which were freekicks, was the only thing that covered up an awful performance for the defensive midfield duo. Tobsakha was god-awful, but the performance of Liikanen was something else. Usually so reliable, Liikanen failed to make a single pass in fourty-five minutes, which is just an abomination of a performance. I think that the general consensus was to drop him to the bench and Vetlesen has responded by doing that and more.

In fact, he has reshuffled the team, with Chanar Aarnes, Max Sviták coming in to replace the two defensive midfielders, forming a 4-1-1-3-2, with Sviták in the centre-midfield role. Good luck to the lads, it's going to be a difficult game against Gatito, who are complete unknowns. Can we spoil their entrance onto the world stage? I'm sure we can!

Ratings
Starting Team:
Selberg 9/10 - Excellent in goal, saved the defence on many occasions. Well played keeping a clean sheet.
Gudmundson 7/10 - Solid, but wasn't able to get forward enough.
Alvdal 6/10 - Brutally exposed by the failure of the two defensive midfielders, he spent a lot of time marking two men.
Jorgensen 6/10 - Just like Alvdal, he was exposed brutally, but was completely caught out by the many runs that the opposition did.
Falla 8/10 - Played well, rescued the ailing defence a lot of the time and put in a couple of good crosses from the left.
Liikanen 0/10 - Awful. Absolutely awful. Subbed after 45 minutes.
Tobsakha 2/10 - Not as bad as his partner, but still a fish would've been more useful.
Temuge 10/10 - Brilliant. Single-handedly won the match.
Axelsen 7/10 - Decent, but nothing spectacular.
Eldgrímursson 6/10 - Solid, but was invisible for most of the match.
Lisov 7/10 - Excellent hold-up play, but failed to get into good positions.

Subs:
Sviták 8/10 - Drastic improvement of Liikanen
Ibsen 8/10 - Subbed on for Alvdal on the 60", improvement that sured up the defence

Team vs Gatito
GK: Selberg
DEF: Gudmundson, Alvdal, Jorgensen, Falla
MID: Aarnes, Sviták, Temuge, Axelsen, Eldgrímursson
FW: Lisov

It was an ugly day for a game at Viking Stadium in Savalen, where 15,678 showed up in the pouring rain to watch the Iguanas take on Crumstain. The game was a defensive struggle, with it being tied 0-0 at halftime, however in the 63rd minute Crumstain scored after the Topsailian goalie Daniel Priase slipped on the wet turf. However, the Iguanas would tie it up in added time, when Center Attack Midfielder Jacob Teague snuck it past the Crumstainite goalie in the 91st minute to tie the game and force a 1-1 draw. The Iguanas are now tied with Crumstain for command of the group, and their record is now 1-1-0 in cup play.

"KALMAR UNION SCORES IT'S FIRST GOAL AGAINST KATHMANDUE, WINNING ITS FIRST MATCH!!!"

Dear soccer fanatics and friends, today the Kalmar Union experienced its first match in the Regional Cup held by Savalen. The first half of the match wasn't eventful, the Kalmarians trying their best pushing through the seemingly strong Kathmanduean defensive lines with no prevail. It was only in the last, 89th minute that #17 Júníus Relusson with his amazing dribble passed on the ball to #2 Maximilian Stålhamar, known as Kalmar's secret weapon, in which he made an impressive score through a head-nick! "That was sure might, fine, dandy that our beloved Stålhamar managed to accomplish that; til' that moment I was pretty sure that it would've been even but man, I'm certainly impressed by our boys; all that extra practice has payed off in the end" a proud coach Bob Ross said after greeting the Kalmarian and Kathmanduean teams, including his closest friend and Kathmanduean Coach Marcel Toussaint. "Marcel and I are going to have a nice dinner with all of our lads, they truly deserve it after beating the devil off if I would put it mildly; going to try that old establishment in Roros centre, what's it's called...ah, The Wild Viking! Mead would be pretty good and who knows, might get some inspirations for new paintings".

The next match tom. is against the El Fijians: "Well, we shall see tom. and hope for the best; so far they don't seem to pose a challenge but everything can change from time to time. Oops, have to go now. Take care and God Bless"!

We from the Kalmarian Sport's studio also would like to Bless everyone and have a continued lovely Football Time!

DISAPPOINTING START TO NORTHWESTERN CUP, EXPECT TURNAROUND SAYS COACH
Martin Wejinya - Lagos, Nigeria

Image
Coach Ike Ambode, at a Press conference, 23 May, 2016

Although, the invincible lion had a very disappointing start to the tournament conceding seven goals in their first game against the Thracian side and only Managing to score one goal, from Ahmed Bantu towards the end of the match. Coach Ambode in a press conference today at the hotel where the Naigerians are logged, while acknowledging the fact that their initial performance was nothing to write home about, promised a win on their next game.

Here's what he had to say, "Yes, we conceded alot of goals in the first game. Our play was poor and our defence collapsed because we forget to play as a team. But rest assured, we learnt from our mistakes and are now ready to give all we've got. And I believe we can still carry the Cup home and we will"

Wow, strong words from Coach Ambode. Well, one hundred and forty million Naigerians at home and around fifteen hundred in Savalen are really hoping that the team does pull through as they face the Gatito side, tomorrow at WaterFront Park. Nonetheless, a large crowd is still expected to turn out for the next game to show support to the team. Meanwhile, no word has been given yet as to whether any substitutions will be made for the next game. According to analyst, the Naigerian Lions still have a shot at the cup, as long as they can manage a draw with Savalen and a win against Raventsvo and Gatito.

Other games on match day two, saw once again the Tracian Imperial dominate their Raventsvo counterparts, defeating them 1- 0, gaining a further three points to maintain top spot on the Group B table. Host Savalen beat Gatito 3 - 2, in what appeared to be a highly contested match.

And in Group A, Topsail and Crumstain played to a one-all drew and Kaelmar are ecstatic as they score their first goal in the tournament beating kathmandue by a goal to nothing.

Krumland Swans (1-0-1) tie the Topsail Iguanas (1-0-1) 1-1

The Krumland Swans and the Topsail Iguanas found out yesterday what it was like to kiss their own sisters.... figuratively. In a closely contested match played in dreadful rainfall, the Swans and Iguanas tied to a tune of 1-1 to tie for the top position in group play (Who thought ties were a good idea?). Nearly 16,000 came out to Viking Stadium only to leave soaked and without something to cheer about. The game remained tied at 0-0 at halftime until Pal Noel, the Swans starting striker, scored a lucky goal at he 63rd time mark when Daniel Praise, The Iguanas goalkeeper, slipped on the wet turf and allowed Noel to score the easy goal. Later on, the Iguanas struck back to tie the game in the 91st minute after Jacob Teague outsmarted Sten Pagani, the Swans goalkeeper, to tie the game.

Good news though! That one team from Kathmandue is last place in Group A, so it is always a good day to be a Krumland Swan!

Gur looked right and left. He had the ball at his feet just outside the box with the match drawn at 2-2 on the 89th minute. Both Lisov and Axelsen had scored, but the Gatitans had bravely replied thanks to two goals from their striker, Cavdarli and it looked like they were heading for a draw. Gur passed it left. He wasn't going to be able to take on the ten men behind the ball tactic that the Gatitans had applied to try and see out the result.

He noticed the ball had been forked out to the right wing with Falla, who noticed his run and crossed it. Lisov met the ball perfectly aaaand alas, it hit the post and went out for a corner. It just seemed like that second goal had taken all the life out of the game and there was no chance of a winner.

Kurt stepped up and took the corner and swung it in. Gur got his head to it aaaaaand hit the post again. This was just rotten luck. The ball bounced out to the edge of the area, where Elstad passed it back wide to Kurt, who placed a low cross in to the area which was hacked away milimeters from Gur's foot, catching him. Malik fell in the 6 yard box, doing something to his leg in the process.

Gur felt a pain go up his leg, but he realised that it wasn't anything severe withing a few seconds and looked round and saw the ball flying straight at him. He had but a few seconds to react to the situation, but he didn't do it with his mind, it was a reflex. The ball struck his outstreched leg, deflected towards the left corner, exactly opposite to the direction that the keeper was flying to save the original shot.

Lisov looked over and saw it nestled in the corner for around two seconds before he was mobbed by the nearby Gur. He had scored, he had scored his first ever international goal! An important one at that!

It definitely put a shine on the day!

The Thracian Football Federation-Northwestern Cup

Image
Thrace-Raventsvo 1-0

With the latest game played in the Waterfront Park Stadium, the Thracian Football Federation has earned its second victory of this tournament, after defeating Raventsvo's National Team in a close game, with 1-0. Although the score is rather close, the victory today is an important one for the Tricolors, due to the long time rivalry between Thrace and Raventsvo. The rivalry and hostility between these two nations is well known by everyone, so for this game, the security in the stands and around the stadium was strengthened, to keep the supporters under control. Though, the game played out without any problems, luckily.

Because of the importance of this game, the Tricolors played in a more defending tactic tonight, focusing on keeping the ball as far away from their gate as possible, while taking advantage of counterattacks. For the first half, nothing important happened, although both teams had an opportunity to score. In the second half however, the Thracians started to use a more pressing tactic, trying to push forward for a goal. Taking advantage of a failed attack of the enemy team, the Tricolors pushed forward, and in '78, Raul Rusescu scored a goal with his head, getting a cross from Bogdan Stancu. The enemy team had a few more opportunities, but the Thracian defensive remained strong, and the game ended with a score of 1-0 for Thrace.

This victory enabled the Thracian team to remain on the first position in the B Group of the Cup, with Savalen however coming strongly from behind, tied up in the number of points. We shall see what happens in the next matches!

The Iguanas faced off with Kathmandue today in Bright Hart Lane, where 28,900 showed up to watch the two teams duke it out. The Iguanas struck early, with striker Peter Winters scored on Kathmanduen goalkeeper Anatole Beauregard in the 7th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. However, Kathmandue would then score in the 24th minute to tie it up 1-1, and it would stay that way into halftime. Kathmandue then struck again in the 61st minute to take the lead. The Iguanas were able to tie it up again in the 76th minute when striker Peter Winters scored his second goal of the game and his fourth in the cup so far. The game would end in a 2-2 draw, the second straight draw for the Iguanas. Some Iguanas fans are worried about this, as Kathmandue was ranked second to last in the division, and tying with them might show some weakness on the Iguanas' part. Topsailia is now second in the group standings, behind the Kaelmar Unionen, and falls to 1-2-0 in Northwestern Cup play.
