Copa Rushmori XXIV
Pasarga & Eura

Welcome one and all to Eura and Pasarga for this twenty-fourth Copa Rushmori. Will one of the regional powers be able to upstage the hosts as the two most prominent and talented footballing nations in the region welcome the competition to their lands or shall they reign supreme in the regional tournament as they have done in the World Cup? Perhaps one of the outside shots will see their fortunes come forth in spades or perhaps one of those latent powers will see a resurgence and rekindle an ancient fire. Regardless, the next month looks to be exciting and full of great entertainment regardless of where in Rushmore you hail from or what national team you decide to support on the matchdays. Welcome to the Copa Rushmori!

Background
Pasarga was formed by the refugees of the fallen Persian empire following the invasion of Huns. They traveled for several months before they came upon a pair of uninhabited islands in the northwest of what they would later found out to be the region of Rushmore. Wishing to cast aside their failures, the citizens abandoned the majority of their Persian culture, including a hard line adaption of European names, though they retained their old religious practice of Zoroastrianism.

Following their settlement, the citizens decided to call themselves Pasargans after a fashion of those that they encountered on their sojourn calling them the Pariis. It was a tribute to what they had endured but also the promise of what could be rebuilt again. Rather than returning to a warlike people, they turned towards a cultural and spiritual way of life, keeping themselves mostly isolated from the outside world, apart from participation in the events like the World Cup.

Even as the years have passed, Pasarga still stays mostly an isolationist and peaceful pair of nations, relying notably upon the regional alliance of Eura and Polar Islandstates. They have turned to trade and sport as a way of measuring success, branching out of their shell if ever so slightly. The rural regions of the nation still strongly are mistrustful of foreigners and believe that little good can come them, with cities a necessary evil to conduct business.

Map of Pasarga
Image

Weather
Pasarga enjoys a relatively mild and jungle-esque climate throughout the majority of the islands. Notable exceptions are Troubalose and Lunas which both are a few degrees cooler on average than the rest of the nation due to the northern peninsula positions against the cold waters of the Alban Strait. During summer, the majority of the nation averages a temperature of 25 degrees Celcius or 77 degrees Farenheit, though with humidity averaging around sixty to eighty percent depending upon how close to the mountains and coast you are.

Tansportation
While cars are not banned, it is preferred that the citizenry use the various forms of mass transit provided by the government to do their inner city travel. Light rail (including trolleys/cable cars), subways, as well as a bus system provide routes and stops to get to most locations within any of the major cities. Torgos, Targas, Paulinthal, Stein-los, Lunas, and Stilinkeep are all home to international airports for those wishing to fly into the country while most major cities have a smaller airport for domestic travel within the dual islands. Torgos, Lunas, and Pualinthal also are the three major ports of Pasarga and are well adjusted for any influx of passengers that route.

Stadiums
First match listed in a group takes place in the first listed stadium on each matchday.

Group D
Stade de Torgos (Torgos) - 90,000
Image

The crown jewel of Pasargan footballing stadium, it is both the national stadium and the stadium of the club side Galatica. It was built to be a monument to the prowess that the Pasargan people can achieve whenever they put their minds to it and show the rest of the footballing community that they belong. Located in the heart of the capital, it is easy to reach from anywhere within the city and the noise created inside the stadium has been known to shake surrounding buildings whenever the Wanderers are playing.

Kilmonarch (Stein-los) - 72,000
Image

Stein-los welcomes any and all travelers to its borders with open arms. Long since believed to be the footballing capital of the nation, usurping the title from both Torgos and Targas, the chance to host the World Cup has the Stein-losians ecstatic. Kilmonarch, the best of which Stein-los has to offer, is a stadium built just a short twenty or so years before with all the latest amenities meant to attract UICA final bids that never really formulated. All the same, this football crazy city is ready to put on a show for all those who are sent to play matches in their jewel.

Group E
Stadium of the Moon (Lunas) - 84,000
Image

Lunas is the de facto capital on Peynol, the largest city on the second island, as well as the one with the most wealth. It suffers from dreadfully cool temperatures compared to the rest of the nation due to its location out on the penisula. This has hardened the citizens who live in Lunas, who call themselves the "Kings of the Strait", with the Alban Strait to their north. There is also a great devotion to the moon in Lunas, as the largest of the stadium suggests, with crescents found in various art forms across the city. There is a very spiritual feel in Lunas and football itself is something of a ritual, with the walk from the "Stalking Dragon", the largest pub, to the stadium every weekend there is a match. Visitors are encouraged to partake in these rituals or at least be respectful of them.

Stilinkeep Stadium (Stilinkeep) 64,000
Image

The second of the retractable roof stadiums, it offers the same services that Telathron does but in the comforts of Peynol's most diverse city. Filled with immigrants from all over the known world, Stilinkeep is a diverse and culturally rich city. Museums and art galleries dot its downtown sector as well as a rustic feel to the city with many of the original buildings built of brick still standing despite more modern facilities and sectors popping up around the city. It is truly a melting pot of different ideas and cultures that have found a balance between the old and the new, much the same as their stadium shows.

Group F
Telathron (Targas) 72,000
Image

One of the two stadiums being used that has retractable roofs, Telathron is located in the former footballing capital of the nation. Telathron was built as a supposed rival to Stade de Torgos to compete as the national stadium, but the arena feel to the stadium made it lose out. Despite that, it is still a modern stadium that offers the capability to keep the temperatures during the games at a comfortable seventy-five degrees whenever the roof is closed.

Taltron Park (Torgos) - 66,000
Image

Home to perhaps the most successful of the three capital clubs in Baskita FC, Taltron is the stadium usually forgotten in the capital. It is neither as big nor as fancy as Stade de Torgos, but located within a city park itself, it offers a serene surrounding and tranquil environment. Even the games inside the stadium are less rowdy than the rest of the city and nation.

Additional Stadia
San Daros (Paulinthal) - 64,000
Image

Home to the famous, or infamous depending upon where you're from, CA Paulinthal. San Daros is a stadium that intimidates it opposition, with the away locker room purposely being built to only 400 square feet in order to unnerve the opposing team before the match even begins. Being a port city, Paulinthal is home to a large immigrant city, but in particularly a very large hispanic population. As such, it is not uncommon to here a variety of accents of Spanish and even Portuguese being spoken while walking the streets, as well as other vestiges of hispanic culture like taquerias and mariachi bands.

Fire Park (Troubalose) 62,000
Image

Unlike the rest of the stadiums, Fire Park is not located in a culturally or financially rich part of the nation. The north of Pargis is one of the least populated areas of the dual islands and Troubalose being the only main population center due to the small trading port. Despite this, those who travel to Fire Park and Troubalose will find a friendly and proud host. They are the kings of the desolation and welcome any guests with both humility and respect, as well as cheering on their clubs with the passion expected from Stein-losians or Paulinthii.

A Profile of Eura

About Eura

The United Federation of Eura is a very large parliamentary democracy located in south eastern Rushmore, home to just over three billion citizens and the Rushmore delegation for the World Assembly. Eura became a unified state of six regions after centuries of civil wars some three centuries ago, developing a strong national identity with a distinct Euran-Anglophone culture originating from the region of Endemia. Sat on the coast of the Endemian ocean, Eura is hedged between several countries of note including Electrum, Sameba and Rhodesiah, and for many years has formed a focal point of Terranean civilisation.

The land that now makes up Eura was formerly settled by various peoples, who were mostly displaced many years ago. The majority of Euran's come from the region of Endemia out to the east, having migrated over several thousand years ago and quickly colonising the area, during the "Endemian Golden Age" of the ancient period. Although Eura did not exist for some time as a unified state or culture the term "Eura" became popular for fluctuating proportions of the eastern Terranean landmass two thousand years ago. Eventually a number of states and empires formed, grew and then fell in the area, the most famous being the long dead Braetheon Empire and the medieval to industrial era Kingdom of Bastion. Finally, after a number of brutal wars and disturbances, most important among them the First Endemian War and the Euran Civil War, the Euran Commonwealth formed and a couple of hundred years later, it became the United Federation. Since then Eura has evolved into a federal parliamentary democracy and Rushmore’s military-industrial powerhouse, due to its strong industrial economy, massive military expenditure and power projection capabilities, large population and involvement in numerous overseas adventures. It also has a series of overseas territories known colloquially as the “Eurasphere”, in Rushmore, Endemia and Atlantian Oceania.

It is well known for its rivalry and hostility to its northern neighbour Sameba, the isolated “Seventh Region” of Endemian Rushmore. The stereotype of Euran’s assigned by foreigners is usually that of a homogenous, culturally uninteresting horde, who are zealously patriotic and have a socialistic tendency to accept low pay and high taxation. Despite this mostly untrue characterisation, Euran culture has found success and popularity abroad in many forms, especially in cinema and sport, and the country itself has become a hugely popular destination for foreign business and tourists who come to see its heaving megacities, beautiful mountains, magnificent castles and towering industrial complexes. Euran’s have gained a more positive reputation in recent years as an industrious and hardworking people, and the state a positive reputation for decisive if sometimes forceful regional leadership, while they have had their eyes opened to foreign cultures to an unprecedented extent.

Government and geography

Eura on the Rushmore map, in the bottom right area.

As stated previously Eura is a federal parliamentary democracy, and a big one at that. Its population of three billion citizens, over two thirds of whom can vote, normally participate in elections every five years, and are currently ruled by a majority government of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister Michael Judge. For the duration of this tournament the government and local metropolitan councils of Eura's various megacities shall have the final say on many aspects of the tournament in Eura, but the Euran Football Association will run the Euran half of the tournament in conjunction with their Pasargan partners, the police and security services, as well as various sponsors and the clubs providing the stadiums for the tournament. The government is also working closely with airlines to ensure easy travel over the long hop between Eura and Pasarga.

Eura is geographically a very large nation, underrepresented in its size by the stretching of surrounding nations on most maps, but is nevertheless densely populated and has immensely large urban centres, some of which (especially the capital Bastion) are more populous than many Rushmori countries, requiring a great deal of high rise and underground accommodation. Eura is historically split into six regions, hence the six stars on its flag; the Borderlands of the furthest west of the country, Callodonia which occupies the near west and some of the north and is the smallest region, the Heartlands and Bastion Metropole which occupy the centre of the country, the South, the northwest to northeast region of the Holden, and finally the eastern Reach region, where Eura's only coastline lies.

Eura's mountainous neighbour Austroslovakia lies on the Askoy, or Ituyan in Valladares, mountain range to the west. Consequently the very western borders of Eura are very high and snow capped with a steep incline going down to the east, with the range that is mostly over the border topping out at the peak of Grazpike, a 14,659ft (4,468m) high infamously dangerous mountain visible for hundreds of miles. Eura does have more mountains in the north along the eastern half of the border with Szavoda and part of the western reaches of the border with Sameba, which are difficult to traverse and at their centre have several mountains which stand well above the others. At the point where the three countries meet borders, the line on the map is perforated almost exactly by the peak of one of Endemia's greatest geological aberrations, the area's only 8,000m+ peak, Garranor (27,221ft/8,297m). Referred to in the earliest Euran folklore as the summit of heaven, its name descends from old Holden dialect and translates as something approximate to "endless".

For the most part however Eura is a landscape of intermediate proportions for the most amateur of climbers, not flat but no more than hilly in most places. Its north western regions are the most notably bumpy and home to much of Eura's immense wealth in natural resources, and are heavily urbanised, while Eura's centre is almost entirely urbanised and the confluence of the Holden and other rivers is surrounded by Bastion's satellite settlements. It is arguably at its most rural and natural in the south near the border with Electrum, where gargantuan farms meet only a small part of Eura's food needs, and are in close proximity to Brigham and Spartangrad, two more megacities. The east is the flattest and warmest region and generally the driest, its most notable cities being the cultural and economic hub of DIrectus and Falourr, the naval port whose authorities boast is "big enough and deep enough to fit every vessel, its captain, and the captains mother!". The wettest part of Eura is no doubt its border with Sameba and the most northeasterly areas, the cutoff in climate between that area and the rest of the eastern Reach being severe. Spanning the border is the infamous and heavily militarised "Danger Zone", the border no visitor should go near unless they're going to Oakstone, or fancy walking through heath and long grass to step on some landmines.

Transport, travel and advice for both

As you might expect Eura is a very busy country with heavily strained public transport networks in many places, despite their immense size and relative modernity. In urban areas, especially Bastion, Federal Rail services are generally a good choice if it isn't a working day, while some cities have extensive tram networks and underground systems. Buses are another option but coming by car is highly advised against unless you are traveling from a nearby country like Valladares or Electrum, in which case you might want to come by train anyway. Flying in may surprisingly be the easiest part of traveling in and out of Eura as it has an abundance of airlift capacity, with a number of large airports including the massive Bastion Fairways International. It can be a bit overwhelming to travel to a Euran city and experience the human wave that is the local population, but there is no need to be intimidated. Most of Eura's cities are well policed and benefit from the ominous strength of the state's services, meaning that it should be relatively easy to avoid crime if you're street wise and not gullible. Generally you will also be permitted to have a good time and a bit of a laugh; the local authorities rule by consent and petty disturbances like drinking and the odd bit of loud behaviour on a Saturday night are usually treated empathetically. There is also no harm in being part of a more enthusiastic fan group - Euraleague games have some of the most raucous fans around. However getting involved in serious misbehaviour in Eura is a big mistake, especially during this tournament. The games will all be heavily policed and every Euran football stadium is required by law to deploy one steward to every thirty fans as a minimum. Any incitement of violence is usually dealt with quickly and harshly, and it would be a seriously poor decision to do something like sneaking drugs out of the country in places where the sun doesn't shine.

SAN LLERA NATIONAL TEAM
Image

Name: San Llera National Team
Nickname: San-Men
President: Agusti Llano
Head Coach: Marko Vujvic
Assistant Coaches: Pietro Madonna, Pere Dissa
Factbook: Here
Style Modifier: +.65

History of San Llera
San Llera has a long and storied history and has always had a passion for the game (In fact, the native peoples of San Llera claim to have invented soccer, though their claim is rarely recognized or even acknowledged). However, San Llera didn't star playing internationaly until recently. Just prior to that World Cup, San Llera participated in its first international tournament, a tournament for newcomers entitled the Baptism of Fire. The Baptism of Fire started very well for San Llera with a perfect 5-wins-in-5-games group stage, but the 1-seed San Llera was knocked out in the round of 16 by 16-seed Flardania. It was a disappointing end to their run, but it still left San Llera confident that they could do well in World Cup Qualifying. Unfortunately, they were often left at the mercy of more experienced nations, and San Llera disappointed their hopeful fanbase with a mere 11 points in 14 games, not even coming close to qualifying for the World Cup.

In San Llera's second attempt at qualifying for the World Cup, they hoped to do a bit better now that they had some experience, but they disappointed once again. With 14 points, a small improvement, they left qualifying in sixth place and without a ticket to either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony. However, they did settle for an invite to the Runner Cup, where they found more success against weaker opponents, eventually being outed in the semifinals but finishing third in the tournament, the best finish for a San Lleran team at any sporting event to date. San Llera looked to ride that momentum into their first regional competition, the Copa Rushmori. But they didn't ride momentum. Instead, they lost three games out of three, none of which were particularly close. It was a disappointing tournament, but it was mostly forgotten after a promising World Cup campaign that saw a first invitation to the Cup of Harmony. Although San Llera couldn't advance in the Cup of Harmony, it was another step. San Llera then impressed in their second Copa Rushmori, progressing out of the group stage.

In their fourth try, luck finally struck San Llera. The final match day saw the San-Men shock Apox in Dwile, and earn an automatic berth in the World Cup. In Valladares and San Jose Guayabal, four points were not enough to progress out of the group stage, but the campaign was a success regardless. Now, they look to build on that success.

As for the history of the nation itself, here is an excerpt from the national factbook:
"San Llera came into existence as the natives rose up against their overseas captors in 1857. After a bloody coup which resulted in the beheadings of most foreign government officials, San Llera remained stagnant as the natives returned to their old ways. The first president of San Llera was Dorano Trecci, a member of the Homeland Party. Parties have since been outlawed in San Llera. Recently, with the "presidency" of Alejandro Llano, San Llera has experienced a boom in population and economy along with urbanization. However, the people maintain their old traditions today."

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Image Marko Vujvic - After former head coach Jon Lleranerus sadly fell into a coma and died, his loyal assistant Marko Vujvic became the interim whilst San Llera looked for a replacement. That replacement ended up being Vujvic himself. Vujvic is not from San Llera but Szavoda, which garnered a lot of controversy when he was hired, but the people of San Llera have come to quite like the coach. He is outgoing yet calm and known for his tactical skill, making him the polar opposite of his predecessor.
Assistant Coach Image Pietro Madonna - No relation to singer, Madonna is very good at helping to develop young players. He is the only coach San Llera has who is adept at making players better.
Assistant Coach Image Pere Dissa - A very similar coach to the deceased Lleranerus, Dissa is passionate and very outspoken about his beliefs. Players coached by him tend to be very conditioned.

Roster
Postion First Name Last Name - Age - Club - Description
GK Denis Thoda - 24 years old - Image Cenial Liberty - Easily San Llera's most promising young goalkeeper, Thoda was announced as the starter for the Copa Rushmori recently, a very surprising move considering his limited experience with the national team. Regardless, he is easily the most promising young San Lleran goalkeeper, and the CR will serve as a perfect test of his abilities.
GK Chimo Fons (VC) - 34 years old - Image Llerana SC - A reliable keeper who is commanding in the air and almost never makes mental errors, Fons may be starting to decline after many years as primary keeper.
GK Marcel Fons - 30 years old - Image Llara Llera - The younger brother of Chimo, Marcel was lauded as someone who was going to be a star keeper for the national team, but never panned out in the way he was expected to.
LB Jacque Olivier - 32 years old - Image Llerana SC - San Llera's pool of left backs is remarkably shallow, and they will have to settle for Jacque Olivier to start this Copa. Olivier has made tons of starts for San Llera, so he has plenty of experience, but he hasn't been particularly good. He is famous for being one of the most unspectacular players, and people in general, you will ever meet. Left back may be a weakness for the San-Men this tournament.
CB Alexandre De Gonia - 32 years old - Image Llerana SC - "The Soviet Swan" is the dirtiest player on the team, and will slide tackle anyone in sight. However, those who know him will tell you that he's a very kind, gentle, and romantic man. But if you see him on the pitch, you will start to doubt this.
CB Gerard Quella - 29 years old - Image Scottopia City - Four World Cups ago, Quella was a shock selection who nobody had heard of. But solid World Cup play and his team's inclusion in the inaugural season of San League Soccer have made him an established player known for his clever passing. Now Quella is a seasoned veteran, and he has emerged as perhaps San Llera's best center back.
RB Antoni Belles - 27 years old - Image Granger Dragonites - Belles is a speedster who loves to overlap with wingers and put in crosses but often gets caught in possession. However, he recently has been better at getting back on defense and maturing from a young and reckless player to a more refined, older one. Impressive San League soccer performances lured him overseas to Granger Dragonites in the Northern Sunrise Islands.
LB Ramondiera - 20 years old - Image Besmarlaltur Wanderers - Tremendous work rate and blazing speed up and down the flank, but technically he's still very raw. This will be his first senior national team appearance.
CB Marc Abello - 36 years old - Image Pantans - Once a prodigy, a horrific injury stopped his progress but he has worked his way back onto the national team. Then he came back and became one of the best defenders on the national team, with his great passing ability and acute awareness. Abello is thrust into a backup role this Copa due to his decline with age, but he will still add a veteran locker room presence.
CB Robert Rivello - 25 years old - Image Llara Llera - A former Di Bradini Cup star, Rivello is now earning his third call-up to the national team. He is a very feisty defender, a bit dirty at times, but in a good way. Opposing strikers should fear him.
RB Amerigo - 24 years old - Image AS Mantegapa - Another player from the fourth-place Di Bradini Cup of several years ago team that earned a call up, Amerigo is seen as a somewhat experimental addition to the team, and he won't play too much barring an injury ahead of him. If he does play, Amerigo is an excellent crosser of the ball and a very hard-working player, but sometimes tries to run up and down the flank too much.
LW Pelechamchas - 31 years old - Image Chell SC - What Pelechamchas lacks in pure talent, he makes up for in pure speed. The 6'4" winger isn't the greatest natural soccer player in Rushmore or the world, but he is a beast in the air with his height and nearly impossible to keep up with for defenders. He is admittedly not great defensively (although he's improving), but the offensive threat he offers with his speed and excellent ability to whip in crosses, never mind use his six feet and four inches to latch on to crosses, earns him a place on the team.
CM Enric Bou - 25 years old - Image Real Old Maiz - After breaking out as an 20-year-old in World Cup 72, Bou played even better in the next, and starred in the first San Lleran World Cup. After starring in the San League, Bou moved to Zenic with Real Old Maiz. While still a bit lanky, he is well beyond his years in passing.
CM Hector Fonda - 30 years old - Unattached - "The Sponge" is one of the most popular players on San Llera, and he backs that popularity up with his talent. Fonda is rough, tough, and a beast in the defensive midfield who is feared by attackers and makes the defenders' lives much easier. He has also recently developed very nice chemistry with Bou, his partner in central midfield.
RW Don Llorens (VC) - 36 years old - Image Llerana SC - Llorens will be making his final appearances with the national team in this tournament. One of the better players in San Llera's soccer history, he was once an all-around maestro, but age has slowed him down, as it does with everyone. Following his announcement that the Copa Rushmori will be his last national competition, he will start but may not play 90 minutes.
LW Adam Gasca - 22 years old - Image Deline Athletic - Former teenage sensation slowly coming into his own. Like his career, his play seemingly runs in slow motion but is surprisingly effective. Gasca was picked over Martini Saragosa, which was tough for Marko Vujvic to do but necessary.
CM Lorenzo Jara - 23 years old - Image Jaunepont Hérault - An excellent if raw prospect who excelled at the U-21 level. Recently sold for 97 (!!!!!!!!) million dollars to a club in the Northern Sunrise Islands, in what is currently baffling San Llerans. The current prevailing theory is a last-minute attempt to meet financial regulations, although we know of no such regulations in the Northern Sunrise Islands.
CM Teodor Alemany - 26 years old - Image Klyde - Marko Vujvic placed another former U-21 star in the midfield, Teodor Alemany. Alemany is a defensive midfielder of the San Lleran mold, being rough and not afraid of anybody. He is currently plying in trade in Cosumar with Klyde.
RM Oscar Cardona - 27 years old - Image Patria Poble - The star on San Llera's first Di Bradini Cup, Cardona has all the tools to be a great center-mid, with good vision, silky passing, and flashy dribbling. However, he will not play center-mid In this competition, instead being experimented with on the right wing. If he plays right wing as well as he can in the center, he will be an effectual, at the least, replacement for Llorens.
ST Carles Mestre - 30 years old - Image Familia Llano - Mestre, at his best, is clearly the starting striker for San Llera and perhaps the best player on the team. However, Mestre at his worst doesn't deserve to be in consideration for the roster. Marko Vujvic will certainly hope he gets the good side of the 5'1" striker this Copa.
ST Jan Capo - 28 years old - Image Chell SC - Jan is talented but has attitude problems. Convicted of murder and promptly pardoned at a young age, Capo clearly has some baggage. He is now a free man, and insists that all of that is behind him, but it still looms over him.
ST Bellemurillo - 25 years old - Image Arsenal de Releinthi - Bellemurillo, currently playing in Abanhfleft, was the leading goalscorer in San Llera's last Di Bradini Cup, which earned him a call-up to the national team. He is incredibly speedy and smart with his speed (in terms of making clever runs) but not a fantastic finisher.
ST Dwight - 31 years old - Image Camp Pende - Big, burly striker Dwight scored tons of goals in San League Soccer, preying especially on inexperienced defenses. He may not see many of those here, unfortunately.

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Ender Wiggin
Ender Wiggin earned himself one final go round at qualifying with an impressive run at the playoffs in the last qualifiers. This means he also gets at least one more attempt at the Copa Rushmori. With a gold and silver medal from the event it seems like this time around he will be using the tournament less as a show of what the team has, and more as a chance to get some young guys into the fold and prepare them for the upcoming qualifiers.

Assistant Manager: Lysander Ying Uing
Lysander Ying Uing has taken control of the day to day lower activities of the team from long time assistant Mark Tlumach. Ying Uing at 31 is one of the youngest managers to ever control the Knights in some capacity and many feel that he is the future of Taeshani managing, and much like his father many hope he can lead the team to glory in the future.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Xavier Troubador - Fadron Flight 40 Caps, 26 Years Old
Xavier Troubador is one of the strongest goalies in Taeshan as can be expected. The team continues to trust in him in goal, but many think that sometime in the future his spot may be up for graps. Especially with Gregoire Avery always looking incredibly good in New Capetown.

12 - Temptress Avalon - Tintown Terrapins 0 Caps, 26 Years Old
Temptress Avalon continues to be the third string goalie.

24 - Gregoire Avery - New Capetown Falcons 1 Cap, 22 Years Old
Gregoire Avery is quite possibly the most in form Taeshani goalie and the only thing keeping him from starting is the fact that Troubador continues to not mess up. That said he may be the better option for the Purple Knights if they want to qualify for the world cup ever again.
DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Gordon Bombay – Real Atlantea 15 Caps, 26 Years Old
Gordon Bombay will now be given the keys to the left side of the Purple Knights defense. He will be the more attack minded of the two fullbacks and will likely bomb up and down the field, backtracking fast to quell counters.

3 - CB, Andrew Chesnut - Los Riosa Monstas 53 Caps, 2 Goals, 26 Years OldVice-Captain
Andrew Chesnut is now the brains of the operation defensively speaking with the international retiring of Benedict Broadway. He will look to spring the offside trap and will keep the team in line.

4 - CB, Orion Black - Eastweald (Cosumar) 80 Caps, 3 Goals, 29 Years Old
The big hulking center back will likely be seeing his last caps in the upcoming year or so, hopefully he can lead the team back to the World Cup. He will likely be used to man mark big strikers, and the best in the tournament as he has been known to do.
5 - RB, Moki Nguyen – Real Old Maiz (Zenic) 16 Caps, 25 Years Old
Where the left side of the field will see an attacking fullback, employing Moki Nguyen at right back basically ensure that there will always be 3 center backs on the field as the modified CDM/CB will be employed as a fullback. While no stranger to the position he is not an attacking threat.
14- Alexander Kaiba - Real Atlantea 0 Caps, 19 Years Old
Alexander Kaiba has been called up to the team and as a wing back and will likely be used late in the games where 3 points is wanted, but a tie is also good. He uses his speed often, and could likely get spot starts against smaller teams.
19- Jefferson Lafitte - 1093 Club de Atlantea 2 Caps, 24 Years Old
Jefferson Lafitte is now the main center back option of the bench. He could see a lot of time replacing Black against teams who have more of a speed threat.
21 – Torsten Abigail – Tintown Terrapins 0 Caps, 19 Years Old
Torsten Abigail is a likely replacement in the inevitable end of Orion Black’s international career. He will likely take that spot come the next Copa Rushmori and is a likely key cog in the Knights future.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CDM, Maxwell McMichael - Knightspurs 38 Caps, 1 Goal, 28 Years Old Captain
Maxwell McMichael may not have been the obvious choice for captain of the team but in recent times he has shown a knack for organizing and leading teams. He will look to take over from the old regime and lead the team back to the world cup.
7 - CAM, Landon van Neymar – Blacklake Blues 36 Caps, 7 Goals, 24 Years Old
Landon van Neymar has long been a favorite off the bench to change things for the team. Now he is taking over the attacking spot in the midfield and many fans things this can be the key to the Knights qualifying once again.
9- LM, Everett Eskandarian – Llara Llera (San Llera) 4 Caps, 1 Goal, 26 Years Old
Everett Eskandarian will be the new man on the left side of midfield and he is an out and out winger who will run down the field, overlap with the fullback and will likely get into the box and make things chaotic.
11 - RM, Anton Vader - Hannah 0 Caps, 22 Years Old
Anton Vader is more of a midfield player than Eskandarian, he will help the attack forward, but he will mash into the defense defensively as well. Of all the new midfielders he will be starting, and this is a great honor for the youngsters.
15 – Marko Hanoi – Tintown Terrapins 2 Caps, 26 Years Old
Marko Hanoi will look to get some time as an attacking bench player. He is likely however to get overlooked because many of the bench players have more attacking properties than him.
17- Elton Petersheim – Bayern-Algaer 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
The first of the Petersheim twins, Elton is a left footed player and will likely see time as a replacement when Eskandarian is not getting things done.
18 – Ensign Petersheim – New Capetown Falcons 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Ensign Petersheim is like his brother in a lot of ways, but as the right footed brother he tends to play right midfield, and has a far greater ability to cross the ball, and is a threat on free kicks.
20 – Tavon Greenshire- New Capetown Falcons - 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Tavon Greenshire will likely play defensive mid when he gets the chance to play.
22 – Emile Marchond – X Island Marauders 16 Caps, 27 Years Old
Marchond is the only remaining midfield player from two cycles ago on the bench, and is staying as a viable left footed option.
23 – Enrique Fuegahita – Real Chinchinhua 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Enrique Fuegahita is the best young attacking midfielder in Taeshan and will likely see game time in must win games, and will probably come on as a second striker at times.

STRIKERS

8 - LS, Miles Snavely - Kernansquillec City(Kernansquillec) 40 Caps, 27 Goals, 22 Years Old
Miles Snavely is the life bread of the Taeshan national team. When he scores the team wins, when he doesn’t things get fishy. The hope is the new young midfielders will mesh with him in the upcoming years and down the line the Knights will be a major threat in international soccer.

10 - RS, - Peter Wiggin - OAS Royal FC (Cosumar) 48 Caps, 1 Goal, 29 Years Old
Peter Wiggin returns to his hold up striking position and many think this will be his last cup run as well. He still has not gotten a second goal, but his ability to free up Miles Snavely for runs is second to none.
13 – Jon Hutch – Atlantea Hurricanes - Caps, 20 Years Old
Jon Hutch is a likely target man off the bench, and will come in when a tall goal-scoring threat is needed.
16 – Gordie von Houten – Real Atlantea 0 Caps, 22 Years Old
Gordie von Houten is a speedster of the bench and will likely play the role that van Neymar has often played in recent years.

Darmeni XI
presented by the
National Society for the Restoration of Darmeni Football

Following the fall of Darmen, the Kingdom has split into 12 different states within a confederation which provides very little in the way of interaction between their governments. Six men, five of them former footballers, have joined together and founded the National Society for the Restoration of Darmeni Football. Five of the names may sound familiar to followers of international football: Lee, al Din Lambert, Cormio, Turko and Siesman. All of them are former All Greens and they now provide the management for the "Darmeni XI" which has been assembled by the Society. The sixth member of the Society is a bit more obscure. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Free State of Liverpool, therefore making him the only Head of State to be a backer of the society. His name is Donald O'Donahaue, son of former All Greens manager and Darmeni Soccer Federation President Timothy O'Donahaue. Rumors are that he only serves as the financial backing for the team.

Without further ado, Manager Tor Tong Lee presents the following list of 23 men (although a few of them are actually boys) who will take part in the 24th Copa Rushmori. The team will wear one of two uniforms throughout the tournament, the first being literally all green, with the second alternate kit being white with two green stripes slightly offset to the left running vertically. Of the starting XI, only Acardi is missing previous footballing experience of a high level on his CV. Meanwhile, only two of the substitutes; Rome and Vives, have high level experience. All other players have played in three Romanov Cup (now the highest level of football in Darmen and played between the 12 "national" teams within the Confederation) matches, plus some local amateur competitions akin to Pub leagues or Sunday leagues.

Albert’s Quiet Little Pub
Liverpool, Free State of Liverpool

Despite the name, Albert’s Quiet Little Pub, was not so quiet, nor so little. The many bartenders and waitresses scurried around the large floor tending to the needs of the many patrons on the busy Friday night. The house band was playing some smooth jazz, but the mellow atmosphere wasn’t enough to keep a fight from breaking out after two men asked the same girl at the same time to dance. She hadn’t been too impressed by either man anyways, so...

In an adjacent room to the main floor, four men quietly sipped their beers. They kept glancing at the door intermittently expecting to see someone coming to join them. They had been in this state for the past half an hour.

“At this rate, I’ll be on my third beer by the time he gets here,” said Luca Cormio, as the last of his stout ran down his throat.

“He did say to be here by quarter after nine, right?” asked Gene Turko, as he glanced at the door for what seemed like the fiftieth time.

“My neck’s sore,” complained Kimi Siesman, as he placed his rather large hand on the back of his neck and began to rub it.

“Look, it’s h... oh, never mind,” said Nur al Din Lambert as he gulped down the last of his Seasogs. He burped rather loudly, drawing looks from the other three.

“Would you just hold still!” yelled the first man as he tried to drive the car without crashing it. “We’re almost half an hour late and I can’t concentrate on the road with you doing all your doing.”

“Oi, have you ever tried to put a dress on inside a car?” retorted the second man as he slid into the rather puffy dress. The first man shook his head. “Mind zipping me up?”

“Do I have a choice?” replied the first man as he first tried to zip the dress with only one hand before giving up. The car swerved slightly as he let go of the steering wheel with both hands, but he succeeded in zipping up the dress just in time to avoid the stop sign that jumped out in front of the car. The car screeched to a halt as the first man slammed on the brakes.

“Seriously,” said the second woman man as he looked around, “you don’t need to stop if there’s no traffic around.”

“Hey, I’m just trying to following the law. I’m a foreigner after all, you might have me deported for failing to come to a complete stop,” joked the first man.

“Oh, shut up,” said the second man, as he began stuffing toilet paper into the front of the dress.

Albert’s Quiet Little Pub
Liverpool, Free State of Liverpool

Gene Turko had fallen asleep while Kimi Siesman had gone off in search of some aspirin. Luca Cormio had started drinking his fourth beer, while Nur al Din Lambert began eating Turko’s fish and chips.

Siesman returned, washing down his two tablets of aspirin with his beer. He gulped, before speaking, “Perhaps we had better call him?”

“Are you kidding?” asked Cormio, “He doesn’t have a cell phone.”

“He doesn’t?” asked Siesman, looking puzzled.

“Nope,” said al Din Lambert, shaking his head. After a moment, he spoke rather loudly, “Hey, look, it’s him!”

“Sure,” came the reply in unison from both Cormio and Siesman as they shook their heads. Meanwhile, Turko was awoken, rubbing his eyes as he raised his head.

“Hey, that is him!” said Turko, blinking a few times. “Looks like he brought his wife with him too.”

“Um, that’s not his wife,” said al Din Lambert, as he watched the man walk towards them.

The four men watched curiously as the man approached them. Each one had thoughts racing through their heads as the tried to work out how a happily married and religiously conscious man could have found himself with a different woman.

“Gentlemen,” said the man as he sat down at the table. The woman sat down next to him rather awkwardly. The man looked at the woman before nudging him on the arm. “Cross your legs,” he whispered. The other four men looked on quite stunned at what they saw.

“Oh, whoops,” said the woman in a rather low voice.

“Wait a second,” said Siesman, “is that you Donald? I didn’t realize you were coming.”

“Hush, hush,” replied Donald O’Donahaue, as he pulled out a piece of toilet paper from his dress to blow his nose. “I haven’t been spotted in public for ten years, and I plan on keeping it that way, ok?”

The five other men nodded quickly in agreement. After a momentary silence, the man they had been waiting for finally addressed them, “Shall we begin?”

“Well I don’t know Mr. Half an Hour Late. Shall we?” snarled Cormio as he downed his fifth stout.

“Sorry, but it was her fault,” said Tor Tong Lee, smiling as he pointed towards O’Donahaue. O’Donahaue sarcastically returned the smile.

Another New Dawn

Whisper it, but it seems that after three years of internal strife and conflict the dust is finally starting to settle. Three years since the bitter war of words broke out between Sports Minister Domingo Orbina and Football Federation president Gustavo Nadal. The cracks had started to appear during the seventy second World Cup, when Orbina put pressure on the FFS to make changes to the National Team’s backroom staff. Those cracks would eventually become massive great fissures as allegations and threats flew back and forth. Fun and games eschewed as on one occasion Nadal had the Minister’s name removed from the guest list ahead of a high profile charity match at the national stadium, resulting in a wonderful photo opportunity as the furious Orbina was escorted away by security. A week later the FFS offices were raided by state police, citing an anti-corruption investigation.

Nestled within such a poisonous atmosphere cooperation between the Football Federation and the Sports Ministry simply died. It needed the financial backing of a handful of wealthy backers to enable the national side to complete their World Cup 73 campaign and then the continuing stalemate meant World Cup 74 was missed altogether. That proved to be the final straw as the public reacted aggressively to a lack of international football. Orbina, so intrinsically linked with the nation’s past Olympic successes, emerged from the court of public opinion relatively unscathed. Nadal was not so fortunate.

Eventually it fell to State President Gregorio Emparán to finally end the conflict. No one knows what he told Nadal in their private meeting at the Presidential Palace but the FFS boss officially tendered his resignation an hour later. His replacement proved to be something of a surprise. Instead of the expected Ministry crony, Domingo Orbina instead named Hernán Sandoval as Nadal’s successor. Sandoval, a former professional footballer, had previously occupied a number of sport administration positions in Costa Izula and had played a big role in championing sport in the colony. In the same announcement former international Andrés Rolón was named as Director of Elite Football

It wasn’t only the executives that were left a little short of personnel as the lack of international fixtures had also resulted in the resignation of national coach Elías Carrasco and his staff, so the first item on the new management team’s agenda was the appointment of his replacement. During the strife the SuperLiga clubs had tacitly sided with Nadal so, in an effort to avoid any lingering hostility, the decision was taken to seek out a foreign coach, totally untarnished by the whole sorry affair. An extensive search was undertaken, lasting many months, before the FFS were finally able to confirm the latest occupant of the big blue chair.

If the FFS had hoped to appoint someone a bit different, they certainly managed it. There was certainly something a little ethereal about the slender figure new FFS President Sandoval introduced to the awaiting media, a touch unusual around the eyes, and particularly the ears. Largely because Sargossa’s new national coach is Minthârtar Nelésian. The Vanorian had a short spell in interim charge of his homeland during the last World Cup, before being overlooked for the permanent position in favour of the Polarian tactician Mikael Mannisenmäki. Unhappy at being confined to putting out the cones at training, but still highly regarded by the VSC, Nelésian has taken the opportunity to demonstrate his coaching credentials. Starting with the bubbling cauldron of regional rivalry that is the Copa Rushmori.

"I'm the strategist of the family, Kyo." stated a contained, yet furious pale man, whose dark hair with blue touches here and there covered one of his eyes on a rather cryptic way. He was pretty well dressed, as opposed to the aforementioned Ryo, who preferred attending to any of his business meetings on a traditional gi. "Handing me the Eastern Sunrise to coach is almost unacceptable. Clearly other Sunrises, like the Northern one deserve more of my skills than a team that, like others on the region cared so little about anything that a pretty inept squad managed to steal the trophy last time around."

Kyo smiled with scorn. He sat a comfortable bending chair, landing both his feet over an office table, his hands over his own belly, closed. "Seems like an appropriate job to you, brother. And besides." He lifted one of his fingers high, still on the same mindset. "Any of our successes anywhere equals to gold by default. If nobody cares, then we have a pretty easy route by default." He then lowered his fist. "Plus, you seem like the kind of person that would appreciate taking on the challenge of taking one of the most unremarkable Sunrises in town to the top, don't you agree?"

Arrogance clearly overtook Yo Hibiki, the well-dressed man and brother of the current president of the Hibiki Zaibatsu, a conglomerate formed by many of the Hibikis around the Sunrise whom just recently joined under the same umbrella. Their pearl, however, was the high-tech RyoCo, something Yo's brother was popular for creating and maintaining. Thanks to them, per example, Yo's visible eye started to flash light blue, for he was a cyborg. "Well... Come to think of it, maybe I could." He put his hands on the very table his brother was behind, looking at him. "Though I do wonder if sharing a competition with drunks, megalomaniacs, wannabe villains and whatever snot-covered people won last time around would make me any worse if the course of things."

"Is this about the Zaibatsu again?" Kyo crossed his arms. "As the current chief of the Zaibatsu, I suggest you to think Hibiki first, Yo later. Consider yourself lucky that the interests of Hibiki happen to side with your need to impress, lest I need your arrogance to not be proved by feats of incredible skill under bad circumstances, but by your own delusion." He then turned backwards, leaving his brother to the back of his chair. "Your tickets to Rushmore are on the entrance of the building. Now you shall go."

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

It has been at least ten years since Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko was defeated in glorious battle against the forces of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, six years since the greatest field marshal the world has ever seen was undisputably beaten by the forces of a faraway country that was still in the midst of recovering from a devastating religious civil war. Those ten years have seen humiliation upon humiliation bestowed by these meddling foreigners upon the once and only rightful ruler of the United Socialist States, Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko. The nation, and our Great Leader, was forced to accept a humiliating peace with the "Democratic" Republic, which saw our glorious nation become a mere "client state" of these troublesome foreigners. In exchange, Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, would remain in position as rightful ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia, as befitting his station in life. Yet knowing that he is only ruler by virtue of a foreigner's whim has weighed down hard on the Great Leader Field Marshal. This resulted in the great United Socialist States closing itself off from the rest of the multiverse, so that no foreigner would see the shame that had been wrought upon the Great Leader.

But no longer. Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko has decided that the time for seclusion is over. No longer will Pridnestrovia remain under the shadow of the foreigners that had forced itself upon our great nation. We will show that Pridnestrovia has what it takes to become a real and true member of the multiversal community. But we will not do it through our military force. Instead, we will show that we are the best in the multiverse through sports! Sports, which is just codified barbarism! This will show the multiverse that Pridnestrovia is the best sporting country in the world! We will defeat every other nation that dares come up against us! And this time, we shall conquer Rushmore with our women, just like Abanhfleft attempted with the World Cup, but this time, we will succeed!

NEW GELDERLAND ROSTER FOR THE 24TH COPA RUSHMORI >>>
The New Gelderland Football Federation is proud to present the roster of the champions of the 60th Baptism of Fire for the World Cup.

GENERAL INFORMATION >>>
Style: -1

Football is one of the most popular and well-known sports in New Gelderland. Most people avidly follow or play football recreationally or casually. While the Euran League is the most popular league in New Gelderland, a nascent New Gelderlish league is forming to capitalize on the talent and interest of New Gelderland. As part of the popularity of football, the New Gelderland Football Federation was more than happy to send a team to its Terranean neighbors Eura and Valladares to compete in the Baptism of Fire, and, later, World Cup qualification matches home and away. At the first tournament that they ever played, the team won the 60th Baptism of Fire after a tense 3-2 victory over Fluvique. In their first World Cup cycle, New Gelderland reached the quarterfinals of the Cup of Harmony. New Gelderland further added the Olympic men's gold medal to their resume at the Olympics held jointly in Electrum and New Gelderland, and reached the quarterfinals of the 23rd Copa Rushmori, hosting on their first appearance.

Stylistically, the New Gelderlish national football team tends to play somewhat defensively. When playing on the offense, in contrast, the team tends to play opportunistically, watching and waiting for opportunities rather than all-out attacking. Offensive play also tends to focus on the midfield, where Louis Rhodes is more than capable of creating opportunities for Luke Virgo and Ben Griffin. Defensively, New Gelderland is known for producing very capable goalkeepers with good reflexes and eyes on the ball. The defensive side is also known for its good combination of man-to-man tactics as well as zonal defense and its tackling and pass interception abilities. With the ball, New Gelderland will likely pass the ball around until they see an opportunity; without the ball, they will try to force the ball into the defenders, try to intercept passes, or try and tackle. Recently, with the switch of Louis Rhodes and Ian Landis to attacking midfielders on the club level, David Ross decided to change his lineup and strategy to adjust with that.

Most of New Gelderland's football roster is, surprisingly, young, despite the expectations that New Gelderland would want to field its most experienced team. However, because of the dominance of the Euran league in New Gelderland's football history and the relative lack of prominence of Gelderlish players (who have not, until yet, had the opportunity to play professionally in a football league in New Gelderland), most of the best and experienced Gelderlish players are very young. This also correlates with a very young demographic trend in the population of New Gelderland itself.

Home Stadium: Olympic Stadium, Nassau Bay
Image

The Olympic Stadium in Nassau Bay, New Gelderland's largest city, holds a capacity of 54,000 when supporting football matches. A retractable seating area will be used during the Olympics (if the New Gelderlish bid wins) to convert the football pitch into a stadium suitable for athletics events. Closing ceremonies as well as some preliminary football matches would be held in the stadium as well. Located in the Westmore Bluff area of Nassau Bay, the stadium's normal tenants are Olympic Nassau Bay. The stadium will host a majority of New Gelderland's home matches. Other matches may be scheduled at the Lexington National Stadium with a capacity of 47,500 in Lexington.

PRAVENNA
Preferred Formation:
4-4-1-1
Style Modifier: -2
Playstyle: Defensive, counter-attacking side, very much aware of their status as underdogs.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Augustine Rouphos
Nickname: The Lions

The Sameban-occupied territories of Pravenna are in troubled waters. Unsurprisingly. And yet, to keep up the pretense that all is as it should be (it isn't) and that all that's happened has been a natural change of power (it hasn't) the side has entered the Copa Rushmori as usual. The players are a mixture of fierce nationalists, scared locals and indifferent foreigners, ranks thinned by conscientious objectors - such as legendary manager Constantine Katsaros, who has returned to Nephara. It's a mystery what's going to happen. There probably won't be too many games won in the interim, though.

Supplied by a somewhat reluctant Cloaker, of Nephara. Never has the phrase 'your money's good' been more dubious.

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
Defence is the priority for Pravenna, who generally expect to be outplayed and aim to keep tight at the back and hit hard on the counterattack. They don't have the players to overextend either on the pitch or in the roster. Their best angle of attack is down the wings, especially the left where Postecoglou and Constantinou make for a good combination with Barbarouses an obliging target man.

Staff
Manager: Michalis Thanatos
Asst. Manager: Kostas Giannou

Michalis Thanatos is a man under pressure with no experience besides as assistant manager last Copa. Suffice to say he's in the position by default, because nobody else was willing to take the job. Kostas Giannou is very much thought to be a man of the new regime, and his presence is little short of terrifying.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Perseus Theoklitos - Age 28 - Crawford City FC (COS)
12 - GK - Evan Katsouranis - Age 33 - Chatswood (NPH)
20 - GK - Patroklos Sanna - Age 23 - Kalisteri (PRV)

Evan Katsouranis has been consistently fantastic in the Premiership but has finally accepted Nephara aren't going to call him up, and his arrival is a massive boost. Not that the goalkeeping stocks were especially poor, and Theoklitos - one of the more vocal dissenters in the squad - has been excellent for the Lions in previous years. Patroklos Sanna, third-choice goalkeeper by some distance, has been oddly quiet since his arrival...

Defenders
2 - RB - Penelope Karassalidis - Age 30 - Brookford Otters (NPH)
3 - LB - Demetrios Constantinou - Age 29 - Stalliongrad (EQS)
5 - CB - Augustine Rouphos - Age 31 - Saint Alexander (BRE, c)
6 - CB - Claire Demetrios - Age 27 - Rochford (NPH)
13 - CB - Apostolos Iordanou - Age 21 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
16 - LB - Iliad Tsipras - Age 24 - AFC Shale (NPH)
17 - RB - Spyridon Gekas - Age 26 - Apostilene (PRV)
21 - CB - Thanasis Xanthopoulos - Age 24 - Amici Llano (SAN)

Karassalidis and Tsipras are canny and redoubtable defensive fullbacks, though they can press forward when the time is right. Rouphos and Demetrios, who both played in Felix for a few years and have both been sweepers at stages of their careers, will combine to form the defensive partnership. Constantinou is the more attacking option out at leftback and can be redeployed at winger if needed to. Stern Katsalidis, who has been part of Pravennan sides since the very beginning despite having spent most of his life in Brenecia, was killed in the invasion.

Midfielders
4 - CM - Niko Karachanis - Age 26 - Aspida Xanthikos (PRV)
7 - RM - Vasilis Panagakos - Age 29 - FC Matovallanen (SEM)
8 - AM - Maria Michelakis - Age 24 - Amy City (NSI)
11 - LM - Kostas Postecoglou - Age 29 - Cassandra City (COS)
15 - CM - Calisto Matraxis - Age 31 - Indigo Lygers (ZEN)
18 - LM - Skevoula Katsaros - Age 19 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
19 - CM - Mihail Stavros - Age 25 - Boston United (NSI)
22 - AM - Agapios Megalos - Age 22 - Apostilene (PRV)
23 - RM - Oedipus Spiros - Age 27 - Karaikos (PRV)

Dorcas Merochite refused the call-up, meaning that gaps have had to be filled with local players - Angelos Souvanis is also missing, thought to be hiding out in the mountains with the rebel remnants. Of what's left, Stavros, Michalis and Matraxis combine for an industrious but technically weak spine with the dynamic and effective Postecoglou and Panagakos on the wings.

Forwards
9 - ST - Theo Michaels - Age 31 - Evenfar FC (PAS)
10 - ST - Hyacinth Metaxas - Age 23 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
14 - ST - Theseus Barbarouses - Age 28 - Upper Skyforce (USI)

Barbarouses is a towering battering ram of a centre-forward, formerly of Project +90 Nephara, and favouring him makes for a more physical, cross-focused style of play, though he's a good pivot for the aggressive wingers. Ridiculously-variable striker Michaels - Evenfar is his sixth club in four different countries - is pretty quick though his finishing is, well, dependant on the phase of the moon. He's never had a merely average season, but he normally does well for his country. Metaxas, the only one of the three born in Pravenna, outshines them both in terms of potential, and was the top scorer of the domestic league last season through a lethal left foot, buckets of pace and genuine determination marking her out in a league full of disinterested mercenaries.

STAFF
Manager: Piero Aurelio, 42
The first team coach for the Mapletish national team was told to take the helm of the team for Copa Rushmori as the first team manager Bernard Aristi leads the Under 15 side in the Under 15 World Cup. Aurelio is no stranger in the Maplish football scene and is also part of an important core of backroom staff that aims to bring Maplish football back to the elite few of the multiverse having dropped out of the rankings after a period of multiverse inactivity as Mapletish struggled to rebuild from Storm Grande which wiped out the nation's multiverse participation completely. Aurelio shares similar traits with Aristi, a disciplined and quiet man who was known to lead by his actions and was a man with few words. A capable Sports Science and Medicine specialist, all eyes are on how this quiet man leads his team. An introverted man as well, he did away with appointing an assistant and decided to lead Team Mapletish by himself in the Copa Rushmori. Performance will show whether he is indeed capable.

PLAYERS: - Starting Eleven
#1 - GK - Kazimir Petya - Age 31 - Home United
Nicknamed the "Giant from the North", Petya won the confidence vote by Aurelio as he nominated the Primero Liga Season XIV best shot stopper into his squad. Conceding only ten goals in the season, he went 2,880 minutes without a goal conceded, one of the best goalkeeping records held in the Primero Liga, playing an important part in Home United's race towards the top. The number one jersey is now awarded to Petya and he is expected to be back in goal for the World Cup should he manage a successful Copa Rushmori. A hard worker who works to improve all aspects of his game, he has only one big weakness - not knowing when to stop improving.

#2- RB - Georg Ivar - Age 29 - Club Atletico
Having never been in the national team set up before, a call up to the Lions' squad was what least expected for Ivar. An experienced defender with crazily fast speed, aggression, fearlessness and high work rate, it is not hard to see why he would not be an important player of the defence for Mapletish. Helping at the wings is also expected from Ivar, an area where he takes command as well as his defensive roles. His strength on the ball, in the air and against an opposition player is also what sets him aside from any of the right backs to ever wear the #2 jersey. Fine performances from Ivar is highly anticipated.

#3 - CB - Orla Fritjof - Age 31 - Golden Phoenix - Vice-Captain
Being a central member of the defence was not easily filled by any player and the Lions has always struggled to fill this gap in awhile. Many of the nation's best central defenders retired awhile back or were not as prominent as they were before. Age, injuries and time caught up to them fast and slowly they were all replaced with make-shift defensive chess pieces that are rotated around, a solid rear end became increasingly hard to unearth. Fortunately for Aurelio, he could count on the tough defender, Fritjof, who brings with him his willingness to contribute towards all aspects of team play. Keeping a relatively low profile, this quiet, humble and professional defender can play an instrumental role in helping Team Mapletish back up.

#4- CB - O' Vincent Rye - Age 28 - Celtics Rovers
No one knew him, no one appreciated him, no one noticed him or took a glance at him. The most average of the average, Rye had never been prioritized, loved or appreciated, that shaped his fearless, unfeeling, cold and dark personality. Never been on route to playing football, Rye started off his adulthood as a cold blooded sniper in the Army before being dismissed from duty after he went AWOL and killed a prominent armed rebel group's chief. He was never charged in court for the murder. Starting off at the bottom of the footballing pyramid with SC Haynes before he got the attention of top flight team Celtics Rovers and he had never looked back since. An incredibly hardworking player in defence, he can be counted on to be right where he is needed. A dangerous man indeed.

#5 - LB - Alessendra Vito - Age 37 - Balmope Betis - CAPTAIN
The heart of the defence for both club and country, a well known and trusted player of the whole nation. The most experienced player on the defence and his reign in defence was last tested multiversally in the World Cup 67 qualifying stages. Never has one man proven his worth throughout his career and not recognised by the national managers taking Mapletish throughout his playing career. Vito was an instrumental man in defence for Betis as he led Betis to their first league title and also leading them through 26 games unbeaten. His enthusiasm, athleticism, adaptability and true old leadership and experience will certainly serve the team well as the nation looks to become their best again. Caps were never an issue for him as he started off his multiverse career late but the quality of his caps will certainly lead the way as Vito still has much much more to give back to the country that he so yearned for wanted to represent.

#6 - DM - Aleksander Gustav - Age 27 - Golden Eagles
Physically strong, fit and tough, Gustav did not set out to be a footballer earlier on in his sporting career. He was a sportsman, an athlete, someone who is just average. He wanted to play all the sports he can, don on the Maplish jersey and represented the country in the Olympics. He was no stranger to crazy work schedules and he matched them with a crazy equivalent, a work ethic to push him hard. Gustav made the switch to football at the age of 23, roughly just four years ago and started off at Liga One before working his way up and securing a contract with Golden Eagles. With his versatility, he is willing to fill in wherever he can, whether is it an empty spot in the defence or a spot at the wings or a spot at the top of the pitch or even being put in goal, he is willing to give it his all. His work paid off and he is called up to gain more exposure on the multiverse stage as he works towards helping the Lions qualify for the World Cup again.

#7 - RCM - Di Natile - Age 35 - Golden Phoenix
A consistent player throughout his career, the former U21 captain who is still as inspiring now as he was back in his prime will have to settle for a back up role back at his own club but started featuring regularly after Golden Phoenix fell short of quality midfielders as they struggled to bring in talent for the midfield engine room while their youth players sign professional contracts with other Primero Liga clubs leaving Golden Phoenix in a midfield crisis. The composed 35 year old now led his team to a respectable 5th place finish just outside of the Globe Cup qualification spots and behind arch rivals Golden Eagles and Home United.

#8 - LCM - Kimberly Aurora - Age 31 - New Portland Rovers ♀
One of the best female players in the country and is still the best after a period of absence in the multiverse football scene. An all round attacking player, she was molded into a midfield role by Kristin Janette, the former national manager for Mapletish. Fast and agile on the run, Kimberly has great stamina and endurance making her one of the fittest players in Janette's Mapletish set up. Age might have caught up with her a little but she still has the confidence that made her one of the most fearsome players ever to grace the pitches of Maplish female football.

#9 - RAM - Enkainia Lee - Age 32 - New Portland Rovers ♀
A talented quick and all rounded player to start with, she was first introduced to the team under the second reign of Muain Newtons. A reincarnation of Maria Sarah, the legendary female footballer from Mapletish, she was an important member of the Lions' squad from World Cup 62 then. As age caught up with her as well, she still managed to spot a strong presence in New Portland Rovers and in the ladies' team as she continues to terrorize defences in the Women's Primero Liga and playing her best before she hangs up her boots in the future.

#10 - LAM - Josef Gai - Age 22 - Home United
A powerful left foot and a superb eye for a brilliant goal and assist was what gave him a call up to the starting line up of the Lions' set up at just twenty-two, but age is no indicator of skill or brilliance as Piero Aurelio certainly as somewhat incredible selections to his squad. La Academica has always been the nation's finest producers of youth talent and it didn't disappoint with Gai being their golden kid. Influential in the youth national side, a series of impressive performances cemented his spot in the club and now he finds himself under the watchful eye of Bernard Artisi and called up by the caretaker Aurelio who is leading the team for this Copa Rushmori. He might not be the best in multiverse anytime soon but he will be Maplish's finest given more time to sharpen his skills.

#11 - ST - Alero Junio - Age 36 - Facrabendo Kings
He used to be the man, the tailsmanic player who single handedly took on defences and one of the most feared players in the Lions' set up but that was years ago when it was his prime. The former front man of the pack, goal poacher, main target man, playing down on the left, right or in the centre, he was always up to task, with an incredible eye on goal and a killber ball control. A veteran now, he decided to go for a quieter life as he went to the Conferencio and Sunday Leagues to play. Life is not all as quiet now as his team Facrabendo Kings got their promotion from the Conferencio. The former captain finds himself in the squad to guide the younger players and to rebuild Maplish football in this Copa Rusmori.

Bench

#12 - Ben Toon - Age 18 - SC Galatasaray
When you need someone to warm your bench, you have got Ben Toon, the star bench warmer. A former gymnast, and an aspiring number one for SC Galatasaray, Toon has shown that he has got great hands on the ball as he looks set to step up his game steadily with his imposing goalkeeping and impressive worth ethics and discipline developed from his 14 years of gymnastic experience.

#13 - Gasper Shaw - Age 19 - Pittsburgh Warriors
A prominent member for the Under 21's team, Shaw has shown impressive performances in his goalkeeping displays and has yet to be eliminated in the race to be the number one for the Maplish squad. With so many years of experience up for grabs and many more opportunities to be a better goalkeeper, he and Toon will sit on the bench and help to warm it for the Copa Rushmori for the time being.

#14 - CB - Marnix Bert - Age 22 - Heywood City
One of the players who is giving Heywood City fans something to cheer about for the future, hopes are high for Bert to tap on his potential and be a long term member of the Lions' squad. A tough tackler and is crucial to Heywood's leaky defence, a typical tough defender who the Lions has always lacked, Bert is an exciting prospect to be molded into an important chess piece in defence.

#15 - CB - Neringf Judocus - Age 23 - Moonchester United
Aurelio certainly has an eye for the toughest defenders in the Primero Liga. Judocus might not have a team that is great in the offence and his efforts might not be evident in Moonchester United's disastrous goal scored to goals conceded ratio but the performances from Judocus has helped reduced that damage. A defender who looks to dispossess his opponents actively, he has huge rooms for improvement as he sees himself as a deeper lying defender or libero.

#16 - CM - Diego Alvarez - Age 33 - Lumburg CV
An active bench warmer since he was called up to the national team, Alvarez does what he does best and he is seen as an ultimate player who can come off the bench and help turn the tide of the game around as one of the most technically gifted players in the team. Known for his excellent distribution of the ball, this quiet individual can always be seen practicing alone and let his feet do the talking. His complacency however affects his game and he has struggled to manage that aspect throughout his career.

#17 - CM - Garic Jansen - Age 23 - Rosville Sunday League
A prominent player in Sunday League football, Jansen will be the first player to be called up to the national team from the Sunday League, as a complete amateur player in the game, the selection of Jansen came as a complete surprise as Jansen refused moves to the professional league system as he peruses his career as a teacher at a local secondary school in Rosville. A keen midfielder in the engine room, his never ending bursts of energy helepd him be a very physically imposing player on the midfield as he seeks to prove himself, but the Sunday League would be too small of an arena for him to perform in as he has already outgrown it.

#18 - ST - Krisztian Boni - Age 21 - Versatio Giants
The striker position might not be Boni's natural position in play but he has proven to be a deadly and accurate striker with the ball. He is seen as a striker who the Lions has struggled to find to replace Alero Junio who will retire soon. A hardworking player, his quiet nature meant that he might not be able to fit in the striker role for the Lions as communication is key in Aristi's attacking trio but Boni's capability and adaptability to the game was what sets him aside from his introverted nature.

#19 - ST - Zsiga Szilveszter - Age 19 - Home United
It is not everyday you see a basketballer in your a football team but Zsiga Szilveszter is a basketballer for Home United's MNBA team. A physically imposing shooting guard, Szilveszter switched over to football after an incident broke his wrist, the recurring injury failed to recover fully and Szilveszter made the switch to using his feet to express himself. His talent, creativity and hard work helped him made the smooth transistion to football and he has never looked back since.

TACTICS: 4-3-3, Simplicity is Bliss

The 4-3-3 by Aristi is an example of simple football advocated by Aristi for the younger players to the more senior players. The presence of this 4-3-3 involves the versatility of the players in the midfield, where the attacking midfielders can move up front for the attack or track back down on the defence to form a triangular midfielder for a 4-4-2 or a flat 4-5-1. Utilisation of the wings are the jobs of the left and right back while the central midfielders are also encouraged to venture out on the wings to provide for more attacking opportunities and team plays for the attacking third. Simple, efficient and fast - The Aristi 4-3-3

POLAASKAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM, OFFICIAL COPA RUSHMORI XXIV SQUAD

STAFF:
Manager: Bosko Zhamaletdinov, 49
After guiding Volcano FK to the title two seasons ago, amongst other good performances in his three-year tenure, the PFA decided to appoint Zhamaletdinov to the position of manager but have still kept interim manager Otto Omirov on as a first team coach. The duo were midfield partners in Volcano back in the day, and Zhamaletdinov has decided to appoint some of his former teammates to the coaching staff., with recently retired Frans Martinsson being one of the new coaches despite them never playing together. After retiring from playing aged 37, Zhamaletdinov was a first team coach and U21 manager simultaneously for two years before being promoted to assistant for one year. At the close of that season, then-manager Darijo Simak decieded to leave and Zhamaletdinov was appointed manager, where he guided them to one title and two cups, which is adequate enough for PFA President Mikhaelo Vrjak.

Assistant manager: Maries van Romker, 58
Zhamaletdinov’s assistant at Volcano, previously the manager of Dutch Semarland’s national team. Half Dutch Semar himself, when the gritty centre-back retired from playing aged 34, he moved back to Dutch Semarland where he managed Inter Zotanekko and FK Kemsterdam before the national team, but returned to Polaaskan when he was sacked from his national team job. Widely expected to the be the defensive coach by some, Zhamaletdinov decided to keep him as his assistant. Rather loud like his colleague, van Romker is someone on the touchline you shouldn’t mess with.

ASOCIACIÓN DE FÚTBOL AQUILLIANO
presents
La Selección Aquilliana :: Copa Rushmori XXIV

Manager: Negus Donovan
The Donovan family name is well known in Aquillian, less so elsewhere... at least until Rouzel -- the younger brother of Negus -- took charge of a Real Jraxville side that would stun LigAnaia these past couple years. Negus is a lot more enigmatic than his already understated brother, who has embraced the whole press conversation thing. Expect Negus to answer questions in a roundabout manner, if at all. He's very open with his players, though. Always very precise on what he expects... so we're told. Over the past decade, Donovan has established Rahobi United as the dominant force in Aquilliano football, leading them to seven of the last ten combined League and Cup titles. No small feat.
Assistant Manager: Beresford Washington
Washington's entire career has been in management, pretty much. Retiring at age seventeen due to injury, he has studied and studied the game. Now aged thirty, and with a solid ten years experience working alongside Negus Donovan, he's one step away from his ultimate dream job. His respect for his mentor is so deep, however, he won't even acknowledge questions alluding to the idea of him taking over if and when Donovan departs the role.

Captain: Lemar Skerritt
Vice-captain: Donovan Spence
As the two most tactically astute players in the squad... it was a no-brainer, really. Not really much more to say about this decision.

Style of play: 3-3-1-3. Unorthodox. Very attacking. High line of pressure, with regular overloads on the flanks (+3)

Aquillian's attitudes to anything can probably be ascertained if you know anything about Mexico and/or Jamaica. The nation was literally designed to be a combination of the two. Basically, do whatever you like except kill my players/staff etc. If you're not sure your idea fits with the whole JaMexiCa thing, just ask. I'm always down for RP collaboration. Keeps things interesting.

Don't actually have any right now, because I haven't had time to redesign them and I don't like the old ones anymore... but in my head, they're a lot like the Jamaica kit... just with some red in there. Don't think it will really matter, but if you really need a reference, let me know and I'll dig something up.

Summary:
The concept of Futbol Aquilliano (OOC: basically the same unorthodox tactics Bielsa loves) is less prominent these days in Aquilliano football, but the foundations laid by Alfredo Herrera many years ago remain. Expect an intense, physical game with aggressive pressing from the outset. Central to the team's style of play is the "1", whose job it is to connect their three attackers -- strong and fast, but not as clinical as you'd like -- with the industrious defensive half of the team behind them. To that end, expect this player to often be drifting between the lines finding pockets of space to operate in. The fullbacks listed in the squad are actually wingbacks, and will predominantly seek to get forward and provide width when the wingers (who are really inside forwards) support the central striker in the dangerous central areas.

The squad is made up primarily of players who have not chased the big money moves abroad, though several of them have spent some time training at Osarian youth academies. This does not jive well with many Aquilliano fans, who still resent anything and everything Osarian, as a result of their nations' shared colonial past (OOC: long story short, think of RL British interests in the Caribbean but with 100% less slavery).

Key players include Jefferson Madera, Aquillian's all-time leading goalscorer and standout attacker, despite his advancing years robbing him of half a yard of pace each year; Lemar Skerritt, whose tactical awareness gives those around him the freedom to contribute on attacks; and Enrique Sandoval, whose youth is deceiving, as he plays in a state of hyper-awareness not-too-unlike the supernaturally talented Alejandro Palacios...

A moderately conservative, somewhat-religious nation with a lingering resentment for Osarius, their former colonial oppressors.
If you want a RL reference point, this nation is supposed to be a cultural, social and political mélange of Mexico and Jamaica.

I will sometimes RP in an approximation of Jamaican Patois. Apologies in advance ;)

Notes

After yet another Round of 16 exit in the World Cup, Feministvs Sanctvsterra decided to allow several male players to join their team. Thus, Saintland will be sending its first ever mixed team to this edition of the Copa Rushmori. The decision has proven controversial within the ranks of Feministvs Sanctvsterra but the organization's leadership favors the move as not only giving the team the best chance to win, but also as symbolic of the new Saintland that the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are working towards.

While most of this team is the same as before, the new mixed team includes 3 male players in the starting lineup and an additional 4 amongst the reserves. While the changes are subtle, they reflect a more dramatic change in the team's tactics, which are no longer as aggressively defensive as they were in the past. The key additions are Andreas Fadius and Josephus Flaccus, both highly talented offensive players. Fadius is the son of former Free Republican manager Petrus Fadius and is considered the best young soccer player in Saintland.

The Terranean League was coming along well for most of the Gelderlish players - it was heading into the home stretch, with most of the season said and done for the Gelderlish national team. That being said, it was time for the team to head to Pasarga for the group stages of the 24th Copa Rushmori. It had generally been a success for the Gelderlish team heading into the 23rd Copa, which they hosted, as they reached the quarterfinals before losing to Eura by a large margin - the crowd support apparently didn't faze the then-World Cup champions. Now, though, that success may not translate over into this Copa - with a disappointing loss in the Cup of Harmony to Ficisicia and Pasarga, yet another Rushmori World Cup Champion, drawn into New Gelderland's group. It wasn't looking too especially rosy for New Gelderland's team.

Coach David Ross had made some changes at the advice of his assistant, Stephen Rutherford. With the transition of Ian Landis and Louis Rhodes into attacking midfielders on the club side, Rutherford convinced Ross to change that on the national side as well. With that change, Rutherford also made the team stylistically less defensive; with the opening of the midfield, New Gelderland would have a better chance to attack, but also have a bit more leaky defense. Ross was willing to take those risks - after all, he thought that it would make them a bit on par with other teams and make them more likely to qualify. But that strategy would face its test here at the Copa Rushmori. He also made some slight changes in the roster - most notably Noah Cohen, who was taking the place of Ernie Lewis on the squad.

It would be a tough test even to get out of the group stages - Ross felt that the team could take on Sarrbia, who had never achieved much on the footballing stage, but there were major problems when it came to the two other teams in their group, Pasarga and Szavoda. Pasarga was the obvious elephant in the room - they were the former world #1s and World Cup champions, and nobody really wanted to think about it. After all, look at what happened against the Euran side in the last Copa - an absolute defeat, likely one of the worst in Gelderlish footballing history, if not the worst. It was a bitter pill for the team to swallow - but they might have to swallow it anyhow.

Szavoda was another problem for David Ross's side - Szavoda was recently on the upswing on the international scene, at a career-high ranking and coming off a bronze trophy at the Cup of Harmony and a qualification to the last World Cup. They had momentum - and a good team - on their side. While they weren't nearly as much a source of worry as Pasarga, they still had the capability to defeat New Gelderland. And they have done so before - on that run in the Cup of Harmony, where they defeated the team in the quarterfinals. David Ross probably isn't looking forward to that rematch at all.

Still, the stage was set for the Copa Rushmori - win or lose, New Gelderland would still likely do its best in the Copa yet again. Succeed or fail, New Gelderland would take the lessons learned during the Copa to the next World Cup qualification, especially regarding the change in strategy from David Ross. The time was ripe for a Gelderlish World Cup qualification, and the lessons learned during the Copa Rushmori could certainly help the team to move forward in the more prominent international competition.

Thus David Ross asked his team to remain hopeful. Thus David Ross asked his team to do their best, as always. Thus David Ross asked his team to please, work for him, and work hard, so that they may all achieve their dreams and goals in this competition and the competitions ahead.

Sanctii Parliament, St. Petrus, Saintland

Prime Minister Andreas Tuccius and Deputy Prime Minister Censorina Polus had just succeeded in passing yet another bill through the Sanctii Parliament. This particular bill was designed to speed the nation's transition toward full gender equality by permitting women to pay a lower income tax rate on their wages. By so doing, Tuccius hoped to promote consumer spending and strengthen the Sanctii economy. The new modernization policies of the Sanctii government had done wonders for immigration to the Kingdom, which now had a population exceeding a million souls for the first time in its history and this immigration was driving a boom in small business startups. There was also, despite efforts to the contrary from the now-marginalized hardliners in the Church, a massive decline in emigration, which had traditionally been fairly high in Saintland.

The new Saintland was rapidly beginning to emerge and the first signs of an economic boom were beginning to show. With the government's policy to conscript unemployed able-bodied men into the military, the male unemployment rate had plummeted to 0.3%, a far cry below the customary double digit rates while the employment rate for women was fast approaching 50%. Despite the massive expansion of the military, the Royal Treasury was actually beginning to recover as economic activity drove tax revenues to record levels.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tuccius and Deputy Prime Minister Polus had developed a close friendship that was rapidly blossoming into something more than just a friendship. The two of them began looking for excuses to carry out "business meetings" on a daily basis. Today, they decided to take in a Cantvs Virginum concert at Royal Square Garden, which was to be followed by a screening of a new film that the critics had been raving about. One of their proudest achievements had been the revitalization of Sanctii culture to such an extent that Sanctii films were now being exported to nations that weren't run by the Church of Saintland or any of its schismatic sects and the two of them wanted to take it in together.

Cantvs Virginum's relevance had seemingly been in decline at one point, but they have begun to experience a revival of late after embracing the moderate feminism that Feministvs Sanctvsterra now stood for under Deputy Prime Minister Polus's leadership. The group's lyrics now celebrated the idea that women should be able to chart their own courses through life but without rejecting traditional notions of femininity or traditional standards of beauty. It had been through their leader's willingness to compromise and to make her peace with the establishment that Feministvs Sanctvsterra had become a mainstream and widely respected organization within Saintland.

Yet, there were those within Feministvs Sanctvsterra who rejected the Nuevo Feministvs philosophy of Miss Polus and instead embraced the full radicalism that the group had previously stood for. Now, some of them had decided to officially announce their break with their leader and do so on a stage where they were likely to be noticed. Cantvs Virginum took the stage for their concert and one of the singers began to sign her signature song about how women can have both a husband and a career.

As they were doing so, several teenage girls jumped on the stage, removed their head coverings and their clothing to reveal body paint. Painted on their bodies were a number of slogans including "Censorina Sold Us Out", "Cantvs Virginum is Misogyny" and "Down with the Monarchy". The ringleader of the group carried a megaphone and began shouting at the crowd, calling Censorina Polus a traitor to her gender and accusing Feministvs Sanctvsterra's leadership of collaborating with enemies of the feminist cause. Finally, the girl, who never identified herself, declared the formation of a new movement known as Feministvs Veritas.

After 15 minutes had passed, the St. Petrus Police showed up and hauled the protesters off to jail, kicking and screaming about how Feministvs Sanctvsterra was run by hypocrites and sellouts. The regularly scheduled show resumed, but many in Saintland worried that a new radical movement had formed that would potentially undermine the nation's newfound stability and progress toward modernization. Only time would tell if those fears would be realized...

The Euran Football Association’s 24th Copa Rushmori Squad

Manager: Steve Thompson (54, Eura)

All time Euran record appearance holder Steve Thompson, with 301 caps to his name and 75 goals, was made Euran manager amidst much fanfare ahead of the 20th Copa Rushmori and qualifying section for the 71st World Cup. By beating Tom Benedict, several other former Eura internationals and international candidates to the post, Steve had set himself up with the tough task of helping Eura recover from three consecutive poor performances at World Cup finals. Eura seemed to gain more defensive stability and ruthlessness under Louis Watson in his short spell as Thompson's predecessor, but while they dispatched of the minnows easily they underperformed badly against the higher seeds, and then fell apart in the group stage. Only a deserved draw with Valanora salvaged any pride as the respected but not highly rated Watson bowed out of international management. However Thompson turned things around with a surprisingly good performance at the 20th Copa Rushmori, though once again they came up just short of finally winning it - Eura continues to be perhaps the biggest underachiever in the tournament. His Eura side made it to the final before falling to an unlucky defeat in extra time against Sargossa by the score of 2-1, despite a headed goal from Craig Gilbert.

Many questioned whether or not this form would translate into the World Cup, and Thompson's side proved the doubters wrong. Their initial qualifying charge included a number of good wins including victories over Semarland and Mangolana, interrupted only by a frustrating draw in neighbouring Szavoda. However a loss away to the top seeds Royal Kingdom of Quebec, followed by draws against Semarland and Sandwich Territories, temporarily derailed Eura's qualification hopes. Thankfully Thompson turned it around, and powered on by veteran Skorji Oslograd's goals, they qualified. At the World Cup itself Eura finally broke their chain of group stage embarrassments, beating co-hosts Yttribia and the ever potent Farfadillis; their last game was an ignominious defeat to Star United States but they made it into the next round anyway. In the Round of 16 Eura encountered their qualifying rivals Royal Kingdom of Quebec and proved to be their bane once again, beating them 2-1, before beating Turori in an absolute thriller on penalties. However Eura's surprise advancement into the later stages was ended in the semi-finals by Rushmori rivals Pasarga, the goals of Brigham's Dominik Mauer sinking the Euran's despite Skorji Oslograd's 100th international goal. Eura's performance in the 21st Copa Rushmori was less admirable as they stumbled through the group stage before an undeserved quarter final exit to Taeshan.

The next cycle was met by more outstanding football and more heartbreak while Brigham were having that season at home. Eura blitzed their way to their third World Cup final, living up to the hype that followed the last cycle. They were particularly potent in having the most dangerous goalscoring record of any team, especially given Ashtree's age and Campbell's rawness being the only options up front, and went on a remarkable run of form that culminated in a famous 5-0 semi-final drubbing of Vilita. However Eura's newest nemesis Pasarga stood in the way again and defeated them at the final hurdle in a tight contest, and then knocked Eura out of the Copa Rushmori in the later stages on penalties after Eura had started impressively, and had won a 5-3 thriller against rivals Sameba. After these close misses, Eura were wondering what they have to do to win an international tournament again. Despite this it had been a good time for Eura, at 2nd in the world - their highest ranking - and it is hard to argue that, on paper at least, only Pasarga had claim to be better. However there remained some lurking doubts; Eura's previous two finals produced the same issues of key players about to pass their peak and major changes to the starting lineup, and were followed by a quarter final exit and then several years of mediocrity.

Finally, at the 73rd World Cup, all doubts were erased as Thompson cemented himself as a legend as both a player and coach for Eura by winning the World Cup, making Eura the first country from Rushmore to do it twice. An exceptional squad with an exceptional manager swept away a qualifying group of intermediate difficulty with a 100% record, a first for the Euran national team, before kicking off the World Cup with a memorable 7-3 thrashing of Free Republics. Confident victories against Ceni, Cosumar and Apox followed before a rather overconfident Farfadillis who had just shocked Osarius 5-1, were swept away 6-1 by Kris Campbell and company. After Eura's normal time win streak was ended by a draw against underdogs San Jose Guayabal, which ended with Eura winning a drawn out penalty shootout for the first time in a while, they were set up for a tantalising final clash with Pasarga. Eura, despite their fantastic record, were considered slight underdogs against Pasarga due to the perceived mental barrier Eura had developed against the side from northern Rushmore. Thompson and his team were finally rewarded though for their efforts with a tight but deserved victory over the Pasargan's, after a spectacular campaign including particularly exceptional performances from the likes of Craig Sinclair, Kris Campbell, Craig Gilbert and John Spartan. They followed this up by finally winning the Copa Rushmori, beating Taeshan in New Gelderland. Eura were unable to defend their World Cup title despite another fantastic campaign, exiting in a shock comeback defeat against eventual champions Nephara in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, Eura will feel confident about their abilities after six consecutive last-four finishes in major tournaments.

Assistant Manager: Matt Boyce (54, Eura)

Boyce was a surprise appointment as Thompson’s assistant, having been out of coaching roles for a couple of years. However he has plenty of experience at various clubs and the national team before that and his appointment has been responded to positively. He has played a pivotal role in maintaining Eura’s improvements at the back, while his bubbly personality and reputation as a leader make him a valuable asset in the dressing room. He has been a key ingredient in Thompson's success, and has proven a lot less of a competitor, and more like an assistant, than Dimitri Campbell was to Ben Randall.

Styles and Permission

Style Modifier: +3

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

Choose my goalscorers – YES
Godmod scoring events – YES
RP injuries to my players – YES
Godmod injuries to my players – YES (But only how the injury happens, NOT the extent of the injury)
Hand out yellow cards to my players – YES
Hand out red cards to my players – YES
Godmod other events – YES, provided you keep events within the realms of realism, so no deaths etc.

30 man qualifying squad

Shirt number – name – position – age – caps – goals – club

Goalkeepers

1 – Ben Prince – GK – 33 – 37 – 0 – Revolutionaries
13 – Tyler Coleman - GK - 28 - 0 - 0 - Bastion
30 - Tony Grant - GK - 32 - 0 - 0 - Falourr

Chris Waller's retirement from international football on a high leaves open the starting spot for Ben Prince to fill for the first time in several cycles. Hopefully he will make the spot his own for now, after he failed to impress as much as he could last time. Carl Brommis has also retired, meaning that two new names are in - Tyler Coleman and Tony Grant. Both are experienced Gold League goalkeepers with U21 international experience, but who remain uncapped due to the previous dominance of Waller, Prince and Brommis.

Defenders

2 – Weylon Churchilli – RWB – 33 – 152 – 15 – Spartangrad
3 – Andrew Watson - LWB – 30 - 133 - 6 - Directus
4 – Craig Gilbert – CB – 31 – 150 – 6 – Directus
5 – Frank Ainsworth - CB - 25 - 36 - 2 - Ulsa
15 - Mark Rogers – CB – 31 – 109 – 3 – Revolutionaries
19 – David Pope - CB - 29 - 17 - 1 - Brigham
21 – Joe Caffin – RB – 30 – 28 – 1 – Revolutionaries
23 – Charlie Harris - CB - 30 - 17 - 0 - Holdenberg
25 – Harvey Conway - LB - 22 - 0 - 0 - Holdenberg
27 - Bryan Butler - CB - 23 - 0 - 0 - Spartangrad

Eura's backline selection hasn't changed much from the unit that has worked so well for the past few years, but with the core four of Churchilli, Gilbert, Rogers and Watson now in their thirties, Ainsworth is the only true regular younger than 30. Therefore the backup selection somewhat reflects the plan for the future, especially with the inclusion of Harvey Conway and Bryan Butler, who have been in hot form for their clubs during Euraleague Season 27. For now though it is Craig Gilbert who will remain the focal point of what is possibly Eura's strongest ever back line.

Midfielders

6 – Gareth Blackthorn - CDM/CM – 32 – 177 – 14 – Revolutionaries
7 – Craig Sinclair – AM – 30 – 202 – 77 – Ulsa
8 – John Spartan – CM/CAM – 32 – 197 – 64 – Revolutionaries
11 - Joel Sutton - LW - 25 - 42 - 12 - Metropolis Alligators (Valladares)
12 - Lewis Hughes - AM - 28 - 36 - 8 - Spartangrad
16 – Rob Bell – CM – 31 – 68 – 8 – Ulsa
18 – Charles Hunter – CM – 28 – 43 – 9 – Directus
20 – Ryan Robinson - RW - 23 - 2 - 0 - Lajuno
22 – Freddie Nolan - CM/CAM - 25 - 13 - 2 - Ulsa
24 – Sterling Rose - CDM - 25 - 49 - 4 - AC Izotz Zubia (Audioslavia)
28 - Oscar Coltrane - AM - 19 - 0 - 0 - Brigham
29 - Charles Owens - AM - 25 - 1 - 0 - Revolutionaries

There is also little change in Eura's midfield lineup that has dominated its opposition recently, although there have been several key shifts. Leo Hargreaves will feel hard done by as he is dropped for the young but very promising Oscar Coltrane, a 19 year old attacking midfielder who has impressed for Brigham, even playing a small part in their league win as a 17 year old. Meanwhile the inevitable demotion of Gareth Blackthorn has finally arrived; he keeps his number six shirt but warmup game lineups suggest he will be on the bench, with either Sterling Rose or Charles Hunter starting ahead of him. John Spartan's aging legs might have to watch out too, although his place isn't quite under threat yet as he nears 200 caps. Either way, this midfield is still exceptionally strong and driven by the immense creative talent of Craig Sinclair, who opposition defences will have to be at their best to stop.

Forwards

9 – Kris Campbell - ST - 27 - 41 - 31 - Mâ Âlâmëómë (Farfadillis)
10 – Lofty Jones - CF - 21 - 13 - 6 - Bastion
14 – George Davies - CF - 26 - 10 - 4 - Metropolis Alligators (Valladares)
17 – Roger Piper - CF - 25 - 0 - 0 - Holdenberg
26 - Dion Underwood - ST - 19 - 0 - 0 - Bastion

Sean Hayward has been dropped, in favour of the younger and more talented Dion Underwood, strike partner of Lofty Jones at Bastion and a very similar player to Sam Ashtree. The main lineup of strikers remains the same though, including the still uncapped Roger Piper. Kris Campbell and his insatiable goalscoring boots lead the way.

Preferred starting lineup

Note; does not take into account suspensions, injuries or any other change. At the end of each RP I post, I will give a team for the next match and formation type. If no such lineup is posted, assume that there have been no changes and use the lineup below.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

Valladares' usual formation is a 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference), which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Abel Brücke and Juan Pablo Reyes on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with defensive midfielders Iván Coupet and Pedro Pedretti being able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. The 3 forwards are also very speedy and talented but most of all, dangerous: they can turn seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

This was not the first time Tor Tong Lee had ever stood on the sideline. But it felt quite different this time. He could barely resist the urge to rush onto the field and call for the ball to be passed to him. At 43 years old though, Lee realized that just wasn’t going to happen.

Meanwhile on the field, Koenraad Dirix was in trouble. The ball danced around his feet but the St. Trinian midfielder who was hounding him was determined to put an end to that. Dirix tried to go to his left, but was marked skillfully by the St. Trinian. His attempt to the right didn’t go much better. In the end, Dirix decided to cut his losses, kicking the ball out of bounds rather hard. He turned around dejected, and began to jog into the penalty area to await the St. Trinian throwin. Had he kept his head up, he might’ve noticed the poor ball boy with blood streaming from his nose.

While the ball boy went off to look for a rag (and maybe a hug from his mom too), the St. Trinians began their attack. While not the most aggressive of moves, the Darmeni defense was having a hard time putting an end to the attack. Captain Samuel Horta panicked, launching himself into the St. Trinian forward to try to dispossess her of the ball. He failed, instead breaking the poor St. Trinians leg just below the knee.

The referee didn’t take long to reach a decision, pointing to the penalty spot and pulling out his red card in what seemed like a well choreographed dance move. Horta thought about arguing with the referee, but decided against it and made his way off the pitch peacefully. The less than 40,000 fans in attendance, most of them neutral Eurans, jeered at him as he left.

Boris Maia began to sweat rather profusely. He hadn’t faced a penalty in years. He couldn’t even remember what exactly he was supposed to do in this situation. He glanced to his right as Dirix slapped his back, then backed up into position on the goalline as the referee instructed. He looked ahead and saw the St. Trinian penalty taker place the ball on the ground, as the St. Trinian with the broken leg was carried off the field. What happened next wasn’t quite clear to Maia...

Tor Tong Lee watched as the ball crashed off the crossbar with such force that he could have sworn that the entire goal lifted out of the ground. The ball arched into the air and eventually came down at Temple Fylan’s feet. Everyone was stunned, and it took what seemed like a few seconds for anything to happen. Fylan turned and began running towards the St. Trinian goal. A single St. Trinian in front of him, and one chasing from behind, were the only things keeping him from having a clear path.

The St. Trinian goalkeeper couldn’t have been calm for very long as the figure of Fylan grew bigger and bigger as he came into closer proximity. Fylan easily made it past both defenders, and had only the goalkeeper to beat. On the sideline Tor Tong Lee watched.

One might have expected Lee to erupt with joy when Fylan inserted the ball into the top left corner of the goal. But Lee just stood there silently. A small smile was the only reaction to be seen. Afterall, there was still thirty minutes to play before the final whistle, and they were down to ten men.
